Carl and his crew were super to work with. They arrived on time and worked very hard through some very hot days this summer. Job site cleanup after each day was fantastic. They worked well with my neighbors to allow passage of vehicles as my street is very narrow. All of the workmanship was of the highest grade. Carl was on the job site daily and spent time with me each day to go over the work planned and any possible cost overruns due to unexpected issues. I bid this to 2 other contractors and his price was very reasonable. At the completion of the job, he let me know what I needed to do down the road to keep the back yard looking good and left some sand and clay brick pavers just in case. He helped me make good decisions as to materials and methods. I don't think you could find anybody better to do this type of work.

Carl and his team are wonderful to work with. They arrive on time, are hard working and honest, and leave the premises clean. Carl is very responsive to emails and kept me updated on his work schedule. Carl takes tremendous pride in his work and will do whatever it takes to do the job properly even if it means extra man hours. He went above and beyond what needed to be done and even repainted some damage done by another contractor who came inbetween Carl's visits. I highly recommend Carl and his team. The quality of his work is so high that he is in great demand so you may need to wait awhile for him, but he's worth the wait.

Carl's team of 5 workers arrived on time early in the morning and jumped right into the job.  They were some of the hardest working guys we have had over at our house in years, and they are very productive and thoughtful.  I think they did two days of work in one as they worked well into the evening to complete our job, which was done very nicely.  It was a messy job, grinding out old mortar and concrete so there was lots of dust and clean up to attend to.  The guys cleaned everything up really well, even washing my neighbors car in the process!  I would definitely have them back in the future.  The price was fair, and the quality of the work looks really solid.

Response from Artistic Masonry Co

"I apologize if I did not return a call, email or another request for an estimate. It wasn't my intention to ignore a customer. Sometimes a small business can become overwhelmed with calls and work and personal life issues in general and occasionally we will miss something. My best advice to home owner's looking to contract with a small company is have a little understanding that we may miss a call or email sometimes and it's not personal. That's not an excuse...it's just reality. A second call before a bad review on Angie's List may be a nicer way to handle the situation. In any event....best of luck to this person and I will try to be more attentive in the future."

After researching contractors on Angie's List and reading the positive reviews, we selected Karl to install a sump pump.  He returned our call that evening and came to our home by the end of the week to give us an estimate.  He sent us a contract via email. The job was done by Karl and two workers.  He laid drop cloths, listened to our ideas, explained the process to our understanding, kept us informed throughout the work, and delivered above our expectations.  We look forward to meeting with him in the Spring for his ideas on tackling drainage issues with our brick patio.

Carl and his team were incredibly courteous, responsive, responsible and professional.  They arrived when they said that they would and completed the work that was scheduled for each day of the job.  They were most agreeable to discussing options for each phase of the project, requested my input and when I was not pleased with one element of the walkway, they immediately removed it, offered multiple options and then proceeded with on what we had agreed, no questions asked, no arguments.  Their objective was to have a very satisfied customer.  The completed product is beautiful and provides a classy, elegant entry to our home.  I recommend them highly.

I contacted Carl in May. He was honest about his schedule. He told me that he wouldn't be able to do the work on my house until after the summer season. He came and gave me an estimate. I liked him so I waited until he was available. Carl contacted me several times over the summer to give me a better idea of where I fell in his queue of work. Each time I talked to him the time estimate was a little more specific. I appreciated it because it let me know he hadn't forgotten about me.
The morning the work started, Carl came with his crew and we took a walk around the house to go over in detail everything that was going to done. Carl gave me some color choices. We chose three options. He got samples and put them on my wall so we could choose. They set up a ton of scaffolding but none of it interfered with our doors or gates. They power washed my house, repaired the stucco on my badly beaten chimney and fixed a few bad cracks in my stucco walls. Then they painted the house.
It took them 4 days total. When they left each day, their stuff was cleaned up and out of the way under a tarp in the corner of my yard. When they were done painting, we walked around the house making sure their were no missed spots in the paint. They left me a 5 gallon bucket of the paint they used in case I found any spots that needed help.
They were very nice to my two large and over-friendly dogs. They were really nice to my 18 month old son and my wife.

I met with Carl and another top-rated Angieslist mason; Carl's estimate was cheaper, by thousands of dollars. I'm sure part of this had to do with the other mason wanting to source historical brick from demolition sites in order to make an exact match in the repairs. I didn't feel this was necessary, and in the end Carl's guys did a great job cosmetically using new brick.
We agreed on a price and start date for late spring, early summer, but work didn't begin until the end of August due to Carl's very busy year. Once work began the team was on time every day, usually beginning at 7:30am. Soon it was apparent that the job was much bigger than anyone anticipated: intact soft salmon bricks were spalling around the areas that needed repair as the work was performed. Carl knew this was a possibility but stuck by his estimate and ended up putting his own money into the job to make it right. I hope I am not underestimating when I say that the team easily replaced twice as many bricks as originally estimated, if not more. I offered to help pay for some of the extra work but Carl said it was just part of the job and that in such circumstances he tries to do the right thing in the hope that business karma will favor him on future jobs.
The team did a great job restoring the exterior of our home. They dyed the lime-based mortar so that it matched the old mortar and staggered light and dark bricks throughout the repairs to blend in with the natural color and discoloration of the original bricks. We're very happy that we chose Artistic Masonry for the job.

This is my second time using the services of Artistic Masonry and they are the best contractors I have ever worked with - they provide an estimate that they stick by, show up on time, provide updates on a regular basis and, most importantly, do wonderful work! I know why they choose Artistic as part of the company name - the work they do is a work of art. I have had numeous neighbors stop by to comment on how beautiful my new porch is.

The steps of our front porch were separating and sinking. I had used Carl in the past and waited for him to become available to take care of this problem.  At first he thought that the one step could be rebuilt but after removing it, we discovered that there was not much supporting the entire porch.  The entire thing had to be removed and replaced.  Carl and his crew did a fantastic job.
He carefully removed the two pillars on the porch, He poured a solid cement footing, with rebar, and then rebuilt the entire porch with new brick.  I was concerned about using new brick because there is a lot of older,  antiqued brick in other areas outside but Carl had a great suggestion about using  Vermont waterstruck brick that looked old and blended perfectly with the existing bricks. He made the mortar look old too. You would never know that it was all new.
Every day the site was cleaned up and protected and the crew was very careful of our property.  I will always hire Carl to take care of our masonry issues.

This was a retaining wall made of railroad ties that was deteriorating badly and had become an eyesore and a hazard.   The price I got from Carl was half of what another contractor wanted.  Carl and his crew arrived exactly when they said they would.  Carl consulted me on a change in the exact style of stone that would work best for my job.  The crew was very polite and considerate of my neighbor who shares the driveway with me.  They pulled off the sod by my driveway, dug a long trench, and built the wall.  They installed a perforated pipe and poured stone behind the wall for proper drainage.  They replaced the sod and cold patched the driveway where they had to widen it and I was so pleased that they even patched a hole that wasn't part of the job!  The job was supposed to be done in one day but the township unexpected need Carl to get a permit which delayed things a bit.  The job was finished early the next day and I couldn't be happier with the work.  I would definitely recommend Artistic Masonry to anyone and will definitely use them again.
Response from Artistic Masonry Co

"Thanks for the nice review. I just want to clarify the job cost for any potential future customers. This customer has the cost listed at $1350 but it was actually over $3000. I'm not sure why the price is listed wrong....maybe a simple typing error. ..but i would hate to have someone surprised when they see what a wall like that actually cost when they may be expecting to pay less than half. Thanks for letting me clarify. Thank you again for the kind words."

Contacted Artistic Masonry Co., Carl Yockey, owner, on 10/29/2012, to request an estimate for work at my home.
He made an appointment to come to checkout what I wanted to have done, 11/03/2012.
I received a verbal estimate over the telephone for:  my personal  concrete patio, replacement; my two basement windows
replaced with glass block windows; my basement bathroom, walls repaired; basement inside wall on patio side repaired;
toilet replaced; and neighbor connected outside front concrete steps replaced.
No work was done because my neighbor was not able at that time to have their work done on steps and I moved on to
other repairs.
I would contact company again because of how well they responsed and the professional manner.

I am very impressed with this company, its owner and workers. Carl does what he says and promises and cares about his work and that the customer is satisfied. He is orderly and always cleans up when done.

Unlike a lot of tradesmen, he is personable and approachable and by the end of the job seems like a friend. He is actively involved, particularly in the cement work and paving which is his specialty. The crew is friendly and personable.

This company will be my first and only choice for other such work or projects.

No question about rating him five stars.
