I had the single worst experience I have ever had with a sub contractor. Very poor communication from the outset. No-showed on the day of install. Whole experience was stressful. Ended up rescinding our agreement and choosing a different vendor. I would look elsewhere.

We're very pleased with the final result, but oh what an ordeal to get there. First of all, Gary subcontracted the installation without telling us. The sub brought the wrong window because Gary didn't tell him which one was required by our contract. Worst of all, Gary's installation drawing was wrong. Based on the drawing, the sub installed the window too high, requiring a lot of re-work. The sub told me that Gary wouldn't pay for any additional time or materials to fix the error. I ended up paying extra directly to the sub so he could get the supplies needed to complete the job correctly. When there were issues, Gary could not be reached by me nor his subcontractor. He simply would not return phone calls. Although the sub's workmanship was very good, he was very unreliable. We spent several days waiting for him and he didn't show up nor call. Also, he should have caught the error in Gary's drawing much sooner. After the foundation was cut, a simple pull of a tape measure would have shown that there wasn't enough room for the window and a 10" header. Start to finish it was 15 days to complete a 2-day job. During that time they worked on six different days for a total of about 38 hours.

The job went great. The initial appointment through the entire project was smooth and we were communicated with until the completion. We are very pleased with the service, product, and the finished project. We would certainly recommend them to anyone.

Gary and his crew were very professional. They answered all our questions, and addressed all our concerns. They were kind, curtious and extremely friendly. I would recommend this team to anyone who is thinking of having an egress system put in!

It went super smoothly. We had to reschedule because of rain, because they didn't want to ruin my lawn. (I was really grateful, because I'd had a contractor ruin my side yard one time, which was an awful experience.) On the rescheduled date, they showed up on time, were friendly and professional, and did excellent work in record time. I'd hire this team again in a heartbeat!

They came out to my house and inspected my yard. They stated they would be able to get their machine in my backyard through my double gate. They show up the day of the job, in January when the ground is frozen, and tell me I have to remove fence panels. I do this reluctantly as I had other contractors scheduled to finish my basement and this needed to be done first. They then break the post that the fence panels were attached to. I then ask them to remove the broken fence post with their excavator as it will take them 2 minutes and me hours in the middle of the winter. The owner, who is a jerk, states he will not problem. They then leave without doing it. I had to pay a fencing company $250 to dig it out and replace the post. Ignored correspondence by mail regarding this.
Response from Egress Systems Inc

"Wow, this is a surprise! We performed this egress window installation almost Five Years Ago! When we arrived onsite on the date of the installation, in January, Mr. [Member Name Removed] did not remove any portion of the fence as part of the proposal he signed. When we asked Mr. [Member Name Removed] about the fence not being removed, he started complaining about how cold it was and how he didn't have enough time to remove the fence. The owner showed Mr. [Member Name Removed] the proposal he signed where he agreed to remove the fence. Mr. [Member Name Removed] then got very agitated but then finally agreed to remove the fence. He then removed 2 sections of the fence, but left the post in the middle of the opening, thereby rendering his fence removal pointless. We asked him about removing the post. He argued that the proposal didn't include removing the fence post. Mr. [Member Name Removed] refused to remove the post and told us to remove the post. We were then faced with a decision. Since all of our equipment was unloaded and ready to go to work: (a) Do we pack up and leave, or (b) Try and make the best of the situation. We chose option "B." The owner walked over to the fence post with Mr. [Member Name Removed] and upon trying to see how frozen the ground was, tried to push the post with his bare hands and the 4 x 4 post snapped in his hands. This happened because the wood post was completely rotted at its base. Mr. [Member Name Removed]' whole problem stems from the fact that HE did not do what HE agreed to do as per the executed proposal. If he had removed the fence as stated in his proposal, none of this would have happened. Mr. [Member Name Removed] could have removed the fence and replaced it himself at no cost, but he chose to pay someone. This is entirely his prerogative. We are not fence contractors, we are egress window installers. Furthermore, if Mr. [Member Name Removed] was so unsatisfied, then why did he pay us, IN FULL, on that very day?"

Set up two meetings with the contractor for the estimate. The first time he called at the last minute to tell me he was stuck in traffic and asked to postpone the visit from Friday until Monday. Monday - i waited at the house for over an hour for the visit, he never called or answered the phone to provide any information. Have not responded to email or voicemail since. Extremely unprofessional - if not interested - just say so.
Response from Egress Systems Inc

"[Member Name Removed], I am sorry to receive your review. I have checked our appointment calendar for the past 6 months and your name and address are not anywhere to be found in our records as an appointment (made, scheduled, or re-scheduled). We have not received any emails or voicemails from you. This is the first contact we have received from you. As per your review: "..asked to postpone the visit from Friday until Monday." If the date you were expecting an appointment was 7/17/17, it would have been impossible for us to have scheduled you on that day because Gary was doing an installation in Doylestown that day, and our installations are typically scheduled weeks, if not months, in advance. We would never have scheduled an appointment on the same day we schedule an installation. Gary is the only estimator, installer, and owner. We are a husband and wife team. If you had called our office you would have spoken to either Gary or myself (Beth). I do not have any recollection of speaking with you nor do I have any familiarity with your address. Evidently, you have us mistaken for another local egress installer. Unfortunately, your mistake has been at our expense since we are receiving an "F" review that we certainly do not deserve. We understand that everybody makes mistakes and we would appreciate you taking the appropriate steps to correct your mistake. If you are still in need of our services, please call our office at 484-369-8540, ask for Beth, and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you."

Long story short, I cannot say enough about Gary, his crew, and the work performed. A+. Communication was a breeze - Gary was very responsive. He and his crew were here for most of the day (roughly 8 hours I think) and the window and the well look, no lie, awesome. Quality work. I'm always a bit skeptical with a new contractor but I honestly would use Gary again in a heartbeat. Extremely knowledgeable as he's been doing this for a long time and he knows the permitting process. In particular, he knew the specific requirements of my township before he even presented the proposal. His crew was prompt, clean, and thoroughly met my expectations. Not to mention, upgrading to the Rockwell window well with the larger window was a smart decision on my part. In summary, I've been referring Gary to my neighbors and I will continue to do so to anyone who is in need of an egress window. Gary - if you're reading this, thank you again so much. My family and I appreciate your professionalism and quality.

The entire process was done in one day.  There was an issue with the window itself which they resolved as soon as the replacement came in.  They did a good job of keeping the mess to a minimum, both inside and out.
The only surprise was that I was expecting them to do some amount of framing/trimwork inside the house but instead the window was simply installed and I was responsible for dealing with the hole in the drywall, framing out the interior, and installing the trimwork.  In my case, I'm a DIY-type so I didn't mind and it gave me the chance to make a custom window box that allows much more light into my basement.  I am NOT dinging them for this miscommunication; it's meant just as a warning to others to ask about all of the details.

One day, as advertised!  One day service to employ backhoe, set great looking stone pattern fiberglass surround and backfill, cut through block foundation and install energy efficient sliding window.  Efficient, accurate, professional and now we have a legal, sunny and attractive basement bedroom.  I would recommend these folks anytime.  I interviewed several contractors prior to hiring Egress Systems, Inc and we are completely and ecstatically satisfied.
If considering a similar installation in the Newtown area, would be happy to show Egress Systems work.

Gary and his team did a very good job installing our Bilco doors.  I had used Egress Systems at my previous home to install an egress window and was pleased with their workmanship on that project, so I decided to use them again at our new home.  They were not the least expensive, but their pricing was competitive.
  • Gary is very easy to work with and his team are punctual.  They showed up exactly when they said they would- not early, not late.
  • They are good communicators and kept me informed both prior to the job starting as well as while the work was being performed.  My project was originally scheduled for February, but we had to delay to May due to weather/snow.  To Gary's credit, he brought his crew and equipment out to start the job but decided to postpone due to the soft ground conditions.  I value a contractor that is willing to make the right call for the customer, even if it means that they might lose some revenue short term.
  • Gary and his crew performed the work with great workmanship.  They were careful to protect our grass with mats and they took the time to excavate precisely and neatly.  They did a good job controlling the water and debris from the wet saw in the basement and cleaned up thoroughly after they were done.  Our door is hung straight and closes nicely.  The Bilco doors are well sealed and we have had no water getting into the basement after two hard rains since the installation.
  • My only very minor complaint is that they left the shims used to install the entry door proud after the job was completed.  This was very minor and took me 5 minutes to trim with an oscillating tool after they left.

This project took a full 2 days.  Day 1 was layout and preparation, excavation of the hole and cutting the basement wall for the door followed by temporary covering of the hole overnight.  Day 2 the precast steps were delivered and installed, the hole was back-filled and the entry door was installed.
  • Overall an excellent job-  I would definitely recommend them to others and would use them again.

Job went smooth.  No issues with the install. No leaks afterwards.
my lawn had a few ruts from where they brought in the crane to unload the steps, but that was expected.
I would recommend them for any future work.

Gary from Egress Systems Inc. was fantastic.  At our first meeting he had many ideas on how to do the install and provided me with a fair price.  Although weather played some havoc on timing when work started it only took a few days to complete.  In the end the job was done great and I could not be happier.  The new new door and stairway into my now finished basement takes a space that would have been dark and cold to a sunny warm living area that the whole family can enjoy.  Thanks to Gary and his team.

They were going to come out earlier, but the weather prohibited that. So they did it right -- they didn't try to do it through a blizzard or something. When they said they were coming, they came. It took them just a day and a half to do it. They did a nice job. They put down plywood so they wouldn't hurt the grass when they brought their machinery in. They took their time. Everything came out nice and leveled. The window came out nice. They made sure I had proper drainage. They did an overall very nice job. They did what they said they were going to do and they did it on a timely basis. They were thorough and cautious of the grounds.

We have a rental home and were told by our township that we needed egress windows to be in code.  I got about 4 estimates from installers on Angies list.  Out of the 4, one did not want the job, one was not even in the ball park price wise, which left us with ESI and one other installer.  We chose ESI based on the options he was offering us and the price point.  Also, they had recieved many other good reviews on here which gave me a level of comfort.  I will say that Gary was very patient with me and we emailed back and forth for weeks going over many different options before making a final decision; I am sure I drove him nuts with questions.  They have many options to choose from which offer several different price points, that was one thing I really liked about them.
We had to reschedule our first install date due to needing to have a gas line moved.  I wish I had been more proactive about that.  If you even think something like this maybe an issue take care of it early.  We also had to deal with very bad, cold weather that delayed us.  In the end Gary was able to come out with his guys and do the job at the end of January.  They are very professional and did their best to protect our yard.  Keep in mind they are using heavy equipment to do this work.  Our yard was very wet and soft and it was virtually impossible not to cause damage; however, we needed them in and did not want to reschedule the install.  They did the best anyone could have done to minimize the damage to the yard and regraded it even better than when they showed up.  Plan on a day per window for the install.  In the end I feel like they did a really nice job and that I will not have any issues with the work they did, ever!  When the inspector came out he commented that they looked like the real deal!  I thought that was a nice complement to Gary's crew.
In the end this is a major job and I think that the guys at ESI did a great job and exceeded my expectations for the work they did.  They are very accomodating and gave me many tips and advise.  I give them my highest recommendation, they are fair honest contractors.
