I live on a corner property at a busy intersection and needed around 300 linear feet of fencing to provide a safe area in the back yard for my toddler to play. The job was a little tricky because of some existing trees near the property line and the fact that I had to get a zoning variance to allow a fence on a corner property. Further complicating matters, my wife and I couldn't decide on what type of fence or how to handle the front corner of the property.
I had called many companies to come out and do estimates for me but was having a hard time finding one I trusted to do the work. Everyone I talked to either gave me a hard sell or seemed uninterested in the job. Mr. Bishop impressed me. He was helpful, gave advice, made suggestions, and even had a few pointers for dealing with the zoning variance. He didn't try and push product on me and even talked me out of an expensive gate that I didn't need. He seemed like an honest guy who just wanted to do a good job installing a fence for me.
He initially did two quotes for me, then I asked him to update the one to different fencing. All the quotes came back quickly and accurately. All of his estimates were lower than the competition. His prices were better, we liked his product better, and most importantly we liked Mr. Bishop better, so we went with him.
I was a high maintenance customer from the start. Some friends were over and made suggestions for dealing with one area of the yard so Mike stopped by on the way home one night to check it out. He adjusted the plans, no problem. He walked the perimeter with me to identify any landscaping that may be an issue. I needed the detail measurements for the permit application, so he dropped them by. I had a small disaster at the house that could have changed the layout of the fence and required me to delay for a couple of weeks while I got it sorted out -- no problem. Mike and his staff handled it all cheerfully.
When installation day came around, Mr. Bishop came and walked the site with the installer and me, reviewing the plans before any work started. The installer showed up on time every day, was respectful of my property and my neighbor's property, and cleaned up every night. He accidentally ran over an electrical box on my property with the post hole digger and damaged the cover (my fault -- it juts up from the lawn and blends in and I did not do anything to mark it for him -- I'm used to it but it's real easy to miss if you don't know it's there). I didn't notice -- he pointed it out to me -- and he replaced the cover before he left the site. He offered suggestions on how to do things for better curb appeal, suggestions on how to configure the gates for more safety for my son, and he stopped in appropriate places to get a decision for me before continuing. We lost a day due to inclement weather and he came and worked Saturday to make up for lost time.
Throughout the entire installation, Mr. Bishop and his team made it clear that my satisfaction with the job was their top priority.
When the job was completed, Mr. Bishop visited the site to review the work, called me to follow up that I was happy with the work, and checked up on the status of the township inspection.
I am glad I went with Bishop's. While I won't need a new fence anytime soon, my deck is going to need some work, and I always need mulch, and I will be taking my business to Bishop's Fencing and Wood Products. I recommend that all my friends and neighbors do the same.
Thank you Mike, Mike, and Earl. We love our fence, my son has done nothing but run around in his new yard, and the compliments from the neighbors are pouring in.
UPDATE DECEMBER 2012
The fence still looks fantastic. Hurricane Sandy dropped a tree in my yard, smashing one of the panels and knocking two posts out of kilter. Mr. Bishop promptly came out and gave me an estimate for the repairs. Just got the bill in the mail. He charged me $100 *LESS* because he didn't need as much material and labor as he originally quoted. Who does that? Cannot be more satisfied.
UPDATE APRIL 2014
The winter was rough on my fence as it was on all of us. Had some frost heave and some leaning posts as a result, and the gate needed a slight adjustment. Called Mike for an estimate on having repairs done. Earl came out, walked the perimeter, and fixed it all FOR FREE. Mike explained sure down the road he might have to charge me and normally the warranty period isn't that long but it was a bad winter all around and he's happy for the business. Blown away. Stop reading this and call Mike Bishop, you will not regret it.
