On Monday night I discovered that the ceiling in my third floor bathroom was soaked and the sheet rock was crumbling. I called 3 different roofing companies at 6:45 PM and left messages. John called me back at 7:00 PM that night and was at my house at 7:30 AM the next morning to fix the hole in my roof. The other two companies never even called me back. I hope I don't need to call them anytime soon, but if I need a roofer I will without a doubt call John.

At first meeting, the owner and his son were extremely pleasant, very business like and seemed to be a great representation of an honest and reputable business. The minute they received a check, everything changed. The workers they sent out were sloppy, didn't clean up and very slow. It took all summer for the project to be finished. Meanwhile, lets not mention the humongous dumpster in the driveway that sat for months. After the job was complete, we had two leaks and loose gutters they never came to repair. Did I mention the drainage pipes were replaced by them too? To top it all off, they stole awnings that they removed from our home and refused to return them. I'm sure they were either put on another home or sold for scrap. Either way, this is a company to beware of!! Steer clear!

The job went well and according to plan.  We were kept appraised of the job throughout.  There were a couple errors by the window manufacturer, however, they were addressed very quickly and didn't have much impact on the job from the customer perspective.  John Norton found that about 20% of the new window capping wasn't up to their standard and he had it removed and replaced.
Workers were productive and polite.  They were here when they were supposed to be and cleaned up each day.  At the end of the job they gave the area a good policing.
It's been about 8 months since the work was done and we've been satisfied, feeling that we got good dollar value.  The windows themselves operate easily, lock securely, allow no drafts and keep out a surprising amount of exterior noise.

As mentioned in my original review, follow up and small repairs are low on John's list of priorities. My two chronic main roof leak areas, the chimney and valley between the twin homes, are leaking. The chimney continued to leak since the day S.R.S. was paid. I had asked for a and quot;soup to nutsand quot; main roof replacement job, w/all the best materials: Stripped to the bare wood and any rotted wood replaced, the best and quot;architecturaland quot; style GAF shingles available, PVC liners around the chimney and and plumbing vent stack pipe, and and quot;ice and water shieldand quot;. The PVC collars were not installed, I did not find out until years later when the chimney leak was again supposedly repaired. When the main roof was completed, where some of the shingles overlapped, they bowed up. I was told these areas would and quot;settleand quot; and flatten out, and quot;after a Summer's worth of heat.and quot; They have yet to do so, some 8 years later. I now have a leak in the valley area where the interior aspect of my sloping 100 year old Victorain style roof meets the flat surface between the twin homes. This area was a chronic leak for years, and was supposed to be rectified so that I would never have to address it again. It has now stained approx. a 6 foot long by 1 foot wide area of the third floor ceiling, corresponding exactly to this area where the sloping and flat roof portions meet. I contacted Kathy, and explained the problems. She said because these leaks were and quot;minor in natureand quot;, she could not guarantee when anyone could inspect it. I had played and quot;phone tagand quot; with S.R.S. enough over the years, and endured enough missed appointments, that I flatly asked if John had any intention of addressing these concerns. I told Kathy they needed to get back to me within five working days with an appointment date and rough idea of the service charge. I stated that I was not going to spend all Summer making appointments that never came to fruition, nor constantly calling them and either hearing excuses or getting their voice mail. This was stated very politely but firmly, I have dealt with Kathy for many years and am fond of her. Over the past 20+ years, S.R.S. has virtually rebuilt the entire exterior of my home-- front porch, new soffit and downspouts, front and rear small roofs, the main roof, and installed Certainteed Dutch Lap vinyl siding/backing insulation on the entire home. Well over $20,000 worth of work at a minimum. Given my long history w/S.R.S., and 8 years elapsed on the main roof warranty, I feel I should have received a better response to my request. I can't help but like John, and his prices were extremely reasonable, perhaps too much so. In the end, perhaps the old adage sums it up best: You get what you pay for, (and sometimes not even that.) I feel slighted, perhaps others will disagree... RJM

Southampton Roofing put a tiny emergency patch and tarp on my roof after storm damage. They were paid $500 by my insurance company. Sometime later I asked Southampton owner John to remove the tarp and plug the holes they made when nailing in the tarp, and John agreed.
Two weeks went by and the tarp was still there. When I called John he explained that I would have to pay him to take it off and plug the holes. This seemed very unprofessional to me so I declined and used Cand C roofing instead.
I have worked with Southampton in the past and did not have any problems, but this experience was not good and I won't work with them again.
Response from SOUTHAMPTON REMODELING & SIDING, INC.

"The customer, Mr [member name removed] called our company for an emergency roof repair to tarp his roof and we immediately did so in the pouring rain. The price of $500.00 is a standard price for tarping the front and back of the Main roof. The area tarped was a large area that extended both sides of this main roof. Several months later, Mr [member name removed] wanted us to return to remove the tarp and fill the holes on his roof at no charge. We supplied Mr [member name removed] and his insurance company with a estimate to repair/replace his roof which it needs, I never said to my customer, we would remove the tarp and plug holes when he knew the roof should be replaced. As a company serving this area for over 40years, we could not in good faith remove this tarp and guarantee no further leaks or damages to this home without doing any repair or replacement.."

Do you want someone to show up on time ? Then John is the man!
Do you want someone to be professional, discuss options and be able to negociate with your insurance company; then John is the man.
When you email his office, would you want a response? His wife takes care of the and quot;desk workand quot; and repsonds promptly as well.
A wonderful team they are.
We were very pleased with his promtness and the work effort of his men.
Not only was he available before the work, during, but also afterwards as he came back to the house two weeks later to view the roof and make sure all was in order

John was first to responde to my request for proposal for new roof. Promptly provided very detailed estinmate with the best price among all offers. Apon request provided samples of shingles to be installed to better understand the color pattern. Offered his help with permit and insurance questions. Followed up with phone calls. Was very professionally when told that other proposal was choosen - wished good luck with the project, tryed to understand why his proposal was not accepted.

Only dissapointment is that after the job was finished, we noticed that the small sections of the siding between the two garage doors were slightly off horizontal and needed to be reset. Altho i have spoken with John (owner) by phone, and despite his reassuances to return to fix the problem, he has not.

Once the work finally began, it went well. The previous owners over the many years had just put new layers of shingles over the existing ones. They found four layers of shingles, PLUS the original slate roof when they tore the layers of shingles off down to the bare wood roof. They hauled two full sized dumpsters full of old roofing products away. Any rotted roof wood was replaced, ice and water shield underlay installed, and the best quality 30 year warranty architectural style GAF shingles were installed. Ridge vents were created. Clean up was adequate. The entire job took 2-3 days. The roof remains leak proof so far. SRand S do quality work at the best prices you will find anywhere, but that means they are constantly backed up with work. Minor problems that might arise like needing a new gutter after a tree came down and ripped it off are not a high priority for SRand S. If you just need a downspout replaced,, it will be a very long time before they show up to address it. So, the bottom line is this: On a big job, you will get quality work at fantastic prices. Just don't expect them to respond to small problems in a timely manner. They will honor their work's warranty, please don't misunderstand. Patience is a necessary virtue when dealing with SRand S. The owner is a very professional, affable gentleman who I feel can be trusted completely.
