I signed a contract with Matthew Couturier, the ownder of MD Couts Home Improvement for demolition and upgrade of my powder room and re-flooring in living room on November 13, 2013. Matt was referred to me by his father, Paul Couturier, who use to work for the same company as me. The total cost of the project was $7175 of which $3500 was due upon the signing of the contract, November 13th and $2500 was due the day the work begins. The demolition occurred on November 27th so I issued a check for $2500. The contract states that work will begin on November 27th and will be completed by December 11th with November 28th and 29th off for the Thanksgiving Holiday. On December 11th, he sent me an email that he was ?about a week behind? and will have the two rooms completed before Christmas. On December 22nd, he had yet to return to work on the project so I asked for a schedule for when the work would be completed. He said that the work would be completed by January 16th. When he did not complete the any work by January 16th and after several messages, he finally responded that he would be out to work on the powder room January 30th. He did not show nor did he contact me on January 30th. He finally responded to my phone call on February 14th and told me that he would have the work completed by February 24th. Again the work was not completed by February 24th. I received from him was a text on march 11th at 12:26 am. He was supposed to be out that day to finish the powder room. He said in the text that he could not make it but would be out Thursday, March 13th. He did not show on March 13th nor did he call, text, or email. All of the materials in my bathroom have been removed and my living room floor have been ripped up so I now have no bathroom and no flooring as he has yet to complete any remainder of the work and it is now 4/19/14, 4 months passed the completion date. I have tried to be patient but 4 months past the due date of December 11, 2013 in the contract is an unreasonable and excessive delay in completing services. Throughout this entire process, I have called him several times and sent him multiple emails and text messages and when he finally responds, he keeps promising to complete the work within the week. On the date that he promises to complete the work, he does not show up and does not notify me that he is not coming. I have to call him, or text him, or email him to ask him why he did not show and he either does not respond or gives me an excuse that he is busy with other projects, is having family issues, or a plumber was not available. This is also poor customer service for failure to respond to my messages. He has failed to deliver services, failed to respond to phone calls, failed to honor a repair agreement and most of all failed to honor a contract. The last I heard from him was two weeks ago via text message when he said he would return my money and my key and I have yet to see anything from him despite several text messages later. When I contacted his father, Paul, his response was ?I can?t influence my son at this point.? It would have been nice to know that he does not have a good relationship with his father prior to hiring him. Why would his father even recommend him to me??
