Biggest mistake I have ever made. At first he seemed like he was very experienced and professional. He is far from knowledgeable. He and his employees made numerous mistakes. When you spoke to him about his mistakes he became very agitated. At one point he walked off the job. He did come back to finish the job. However my roof leaked and my gutters held water in them. I had someone else come to fix his mistakes. And that 5 year workmanship warranty he has is a fake. He will not return to fix his mistakes.

Universal Roofing Solutions Inc. was incorporated in late 2010. The owner Mark Hendershot formally doing business as DMH Roofing. He is now incorporated under his wife's name. Mark came to perform an estimate and was very helpful in describing the work that needed to be done and was very accommodating regarding requests. He seemed a little disorganized, leaving supplies behind, and not bringing the color we were interested in, but others colors instead. I liked the proposal and the price was better than most, (but not the lowest). I could find almost nothing on the internet about either him or his company. Mistake 1: did not spend $40 for a background check. We had him come over and agreed to pay 1/3 up front. (Mistake #2) never pay anything up-front - never. I modified the contract with an expiration date which has now passed. A couple of weeks went by and we did not hear anything. We tried for a few days to contact Mark but he did not return the call. Getting suspicious, I did a google street view on the business address. It turns out that this is a mailbox place only. I spent the money and ran a background check. This came back with about 20 lawsuits (in particular IRS tas leins) and a history of bankruptcy. Fearing the worse, I sent a letter to Mark informing that I changed my mind and to refund my money. He called me up and complained about restocking fees. I let him know that if he could validate the actual charges, I would take care of it. He never produced any documentation. I offered to do part of the job on the condition he refund my original payment. He was not willing to do this either. I threatened to sue, and he retained the services of an attorney who sent a letter wanting me to sign away all rights and then he would send a check. NO way, I said I would go and pick up the check and sign. Nope, can't do that. Turns out that the attorney didn't actually have the money. The attorney refuses to return my calls and discuss. So now we are filing a lawsuit to get our money back. Also planning to contact the attorney general about the issue. Summary: AVOID - RUN AWAY FAST Update: All money was finally returned via the attorney.
