I cannot say enough kind words about Remo's Catering. My then-fiancee (now wife) and I are laid-back people, and started planning our wedding much later than others normally might. I contacted Remo's on the 8th of August for our wedding on the 15th of October. Luckily for us, Remo's was available for the date, and offered to immediately go over menu options and choices. Our primary contact was Lesya Mazzoleni, and she kept in touch with us every step of the way. She made herself consummately available to us via both email and telephone, and was willing and able to answer any questions we had in a very timely and professional manner. We were offered a tasting, but declined; when I mentioned that I was considering Remo's for the reception to a corporate friend of mine, he immediately gave them a glowing personal recommendation, as they catered all the events for his firm - and so I felt that a tasting was not necessary. During the week before the wedding, Lesya and a coworker met with my parents at the church during the evening (both the ceremony and the reception were being held at the same place.) They brought with them the linen tablecloths to prepare the tables, which were beautiful. The day of the wedding, the ceremony started at 3:30pm, with dinner served at 5pm. Three persons and two trucks from Remo's arrived just after 1pm, and immediately got to work arranging buffet tables, setting out the coffee and tea service, skirting tables that my own helpers had forgotten the day before, and setting up their chafing tables and instruments. As far as I could tell, they were ready to serve before the ceremony even began. My wife took care of the cookies; she baked them all, and placed them all out on the cookie table before going to get ready. When Remo's arrived, they asked for our cookies and trays so they could put them out, but were informed that my wife already had. At our church, the sanctuary is the largest space, and it is very flexible with lots of chairs and tables available. The ceremony was held in the sanctuary, and the reception was also held there; after the ceremony, the guests were invited into the large entrance hall (where the buffet was being set up, and where the appetizers and bar were.) Once the space was empty, Remo's staff moved the chairs and tables that had previously been staged along the sides of the room into positions that were more appropriate for serving dinner. I make a point to mention this as an example of how helpful, pleasant, and accommodating they were. When we were ready to serve dinner, Remo's staff was so very pleasant and polite, serving each guest with a cheerful smile and a great attitude. When it was time for cake, they wheeled the cake into the center of the room for my wife and I to cut, and then served cake to our guests. Towards the end of the evening, they packed out just as efficiently as they had packed in. They totally and completely cleaned up after themselves - going to far as to take out the trash and mopping the floor in the kitchen and serving areas; they left the church facilities cleaner than they were when they got there. They were kind enough to leave the linens on the tables and the coffee service for us to return on Monday - but let me be clear: they asked us if we would like them to stay the entire evening to the end before they did this. I didn't feel that it was necessary to ask them to spend the time since we had gotten into the drinking and dancing part of the evening, but they were completely willing and able to stay if I had asked them to, and made it very clear to me that they would be happy to help us wrap things up once the evening came to a conclusion. Our friends and family are very hands-on people, and so I knew this would not be necessary. Before leaving, Remo's packed up any leftover food into covered pans for my wife and I, and made sure to point out to a member of my family that the leftovers were in the church refrigerator for us. Overall, our experience with Remo's Catering was an EXCELLENT one. The communication from first contact to the end of the evening was constant. The service we got on our big day was superb. The food that was served to our guests was, frankly, AMAZING. The beef was tender and succulent. The chicken cordon bleu was so delicious that several of my guests have asked for Remo's contact information/menu and pricing options for their own events. My family is very into food, and we are no strangers to preparing large amounts of food for large groups of people. Our original plan for the wedding was to cook everything ourselves, but it was decided that it would be well worth the value to bring in a professional catering service to take care of things for us, so as to have one less thing to worry about - and my goodness, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Remo's took excellent care of us, and I had nothing at all to worry about. I've been a guest at more than 30 weddings over the past 10 years. The food and the service that my wife and I had at our wedding was, by far, some of the best I've ever seen at any wedding. These folks know what they're doing, and they will be my hands-down first choice for any event I will plan in the future.
Description of Work: Remo's catered my wedding reception. I was concerned that the size of my wedding would be too small for them (we had contracted for 80 guests,) but Remo's was willing and able to take us on and to work with us on a price and volume that was fair. Our contract was for Remo's Deluxe Buffet, Off Premise. Appetizers: fruit cocktail and vegetable platter with dip. Main course: chicken cordon bleu and braised sirloin tips in wine sauce. Sides: Vegetable blend, roast potatoes, and baked ziti. Our contract also included tossed salad, coffee and tea service, rolls and butter. Beyond that, we also contracted for linen service (table cloths and napkins,) and china and flatware service for all guests. Included in this contract was the cake table decorated and skirted, gift table skirted, buffet tables decorated and skirted.

The food was wonderful and the server, Matt, was incredibly professional. He arrived promptly, had everything set=up and served the entire room - clearing plates, serving/pouring champagne and plating the anniversary cake. Afterwards, he packed all the additional food items and cleaned up the area beautifully. The whole experience was great - from dealing with the selection of me u items, arranging arrival times, etc. - Remo's was responsive and timely in getting back to me.
Description of Work: Remo's set-up and served a buffet for 40 people for my parents' 60th Anniversary Celebration. The provided the food & serving pieces. They also served throughout the 4 hour event.

Overall, the food provided by Remos was excellent--it was hot, delicious, and delivered on-time. The menu prices offered were very reasonable and there was no appreciable drop-off in food quality from the tasting at their Babcock Blvd. location and our wedding venue. In short, the overall experience would have been rated excellent if it were not for the following items which dramatically impacted our wedding reception experience: The side door to the banquet hall was left open for more than an hour while the wait staff broke down and re-loaded their equipment back onto the Remos catering truck. During most of this time, nobody was going in or out of that door, and they were eventually asked to close it, which they did. This did two things: it allowed flies into the hall which then contaminated the leftover food that sat 10' from the door, and it allowed the 88 degree outside air to enter the previously cooled banquet hall. If the catering crew was that unconcerned about flies after the dinner, what occurred while the food was being prepared? We told Remos that the tables in the hall were 72and quot; round tables. We then agreed to pay for 120 dinner settings if table linens were included. We knew that we would not seat 120 people, but thought that by purchasing extra dinners, we would have extra food for everyone. Much to our surprise, we drove to pick up the table linens and placed them on the tables, only to find out that they were 85and quot; square tablecloths. This resulted in the four corners of the tablecloths hanging from the table top to 8-10 inches above the floor. We then had to position the corners so that they hung between the chairs seated at the table. We called Remos and were told that round tablecloths would cost more, that they use these tablecloths all the time on round tables, and that the wait crew that would arrive the next day would clip the tablecloths so that nobody pulled the tablecloths off the tables when they stood to stand. The wait crew never clipped the tablecloths. I priced 72and quot; round linen table clothes and would have purchased them and had them delivered a day later had I been made aware that round tablecloths and quot;cost moreand quot; and that square tablecloths may not hang correctly. Our contract stated that we would have china service at the bridal table--we were given plastic silverware and cardboard plates (This was not confirmed until we returned home a reviewed our contract). The wait staff used our small plates for the appetizers, not theirs, (We brought them in case there were not small plates for the cookies). We had to run around the week before the wedding to buy plastic glasses because no glasses were provided by the caterer on the dinner tables (no beverages besides a coffee service were offered neither). The coffee service was placed on a kitchen counter as opposed to having it on a serving cart as would be found at most receptions. Communications from the caterer was lacking. There was no one single person that took ownership of our cateriing needs and it seemed as though we spoke to a different person everytime we initiated a phone call or email. Once the contract was signed, it became our responsibility to make sure all the bases were covered. It was definitely not the and quot;turnkeyand quot; experience we were looking for leading up to our wedding. We were hoping that Remos would walk us through what needed to be done to ensure a memorable reception, but that did not happen. There are a million other things to do besides worry if people are going to pull a tablecloth off the table or not have a glass of ice water at the table for dinner. In fairness to Remos, the food was excellent and Bill of the wait staff checked with us frequently to see if we needed anything done. Most of the items mentioned here did not come to light until after the reception or were not worth belaboring ten minutes before we were to be married. Remos could easily have garnered an exceptional rating since they were told in advance that I was an Angie's List member and and quot;wanted nothing more than to give them an exceptional ratingand quot; after the reception was over. If they had paid attention to all of the small details (i.e., no open doorways letting out A/C, no allowing flies to land on food, offering to order drink cups, asking about china pattern for the bridal table) and initiated a follow-up with their customer (i.e., let's go over your reception checklist, how was your reception on Sunday, did you like the wait staff, was the food hot) the catering component of our reception would have been much more enjoyable. If Remos were rated strictly on the taste of their food, they would receive an excellent rating, but there are other factors that influence what a good caterer is. Sadly, average customer service and lax food handling can make even the best meal leave a bad taste in your mouth. (This report was written so that Remos can improve its handling of events and so that prospective catering customers know some of the questions to ask of a caterer).
Description of Work: Remos catered our 7/3/11 wedding reception for 120 people.
