repair technician was on time for the appointment, appeared to check each unit thoroughly, and reported their conditions in detail. He explained the company yearly checking service which I signed up for. He was polite, and answered all questions knowledgably.

Had John Phillips come out and give an estimate. After we went over everything, he said he wanted to go back to the office and write it up. He said he would email us on a Monday with it. Monday came and went and he never sent it. Called him Wednesday to see what was going on, he said he would email estimate by end of day. We never heard from him again, went well the someone who else

I have been using them for a long time. Among the things they check on is carbon monoxide. They only charge $79 for the checkup. I was always satisfied with what they did. That is not a steep price. They are courteous and everything. I would recommend them to other people.

My husband is very particular about having work done in our home that he cannot do himself. We own a large 3 story home. Our 28 year old furnace and 18 year old AC unit needed to be replaced as our AC unit quit working twice during this hot summer. We decided to replace both items at the same time. I contacted Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning (PHAC). Jim Phillips came to our home and spent approx. 2 hours in consultation. Jim patiently explained the options available to us and asked what were hoping to purchase. We had 6 estimates for furnace and AC replacement. We chose PHAC because Jim was the ONLY one who inspected the air vents and duct work for signs of corrosion during this consultation. No other company did this. While PHAC was not the least expensive, they were not most expensive either. We chose PHAC to replace our aging equipment because it was the most THOROUGH. We also took advantage of PHAC's air duct cleaning service. We also had some duct work replaced. Jim, Kevin, Jr., Austin and Dave were all hard workers. Very professional. At the end of the day, they cleaned up. They were very respectful of our property. They showed up each day when they said they would. This was money well spent for air duct cleaning, some duct work replaced, new furnace and AC unit. We are very pleased with the service from PHAC. We would recommend PHAC in a heartbeat. Great. We purchased our A/C (& furnace) unit from Phillips several years ago. A/C suddenly stopped working during a 90 deg week. They came out the next day at a time convenient for me. Tech was highly professional, explained the problem, and fixed it. The problem was covered under warranty, so we were charged a $79 maintenance/check fee.

Very disappointed. All I needed was for this guy to start up my a/c -- a 30min job,  but all he did was to write up a crazy- overpriced estimate -- 10x what another HVAC contractor charged --  & act as though it was the most difficult, dangerous job in the world.
I had purchased a service package through Angie's for Phillips, but not only wouldn't he do the simple system start-up for that price, he wouldn't refund the package I had purchased -- resulting in my paying $99 for a rip-off estimate.
While the tech was very nice, I could immediately tell he lacked much HVAC knowledge when he acted completely confused by the zoning system in my house & started asking really dumb questions about it. Then, to cover his lack of knowledge & perhaps set up a sale for even more work, he then started criticizing the system he didn't have the knowledge or experience to understand. (The system has worked perfectly since being started up by another company two years ago -- it took them 15mins)
If you want a nice guy who's prompt & wears blue booties, this might be your company,  but if you need knowledgeable, reasonable & honest HVAC service, I would steer clear.
Response from Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning Company

"This review contains information that is not factually accurate. We have never been to the address listed here, we did respond to a request for a clean and check at another address for this gentleman. We were paid $55 for the clean and check, not $99. There was no zoning in place on the system we assessed. The system had no refrigerant in it. Our quote for repairs included pressure testing, evacuation and adding refrigerant. This was a quote, not an estimate. We stand by our findings. The technician that performed the service is NATE certified and has been with us for over 20 years. We have never worn "blue booties" in 39 years in business. Yes, we wear shoe covers because we respect the people and homes that we visit. However, they are not blue booties. We understand that after 2 years have passed between the date of service and the date of the review it could be easy to mistake one company for another. Clearly, this is not how our 39 year track record and reputation have been built."

Long story short. The first sign of winter I try my furnace to see if all is good. When it does not turn on I call Phillips.

For the last three winters, I call Phillips. Winter 2015 comes around and I call. I get bad news this time. 13,000 worth of bad news including a Carbon leak.

My partner says " get a second opinion"  So, I get a second opinion. Turns out the Thermo Couple needed to be replaced.

Home Depot for $13.00 and the Company that did the Second opinion showed me how to install it. Then I had the local Fire Department come in to do a Air Quality / Carbon Test for FREE and there is no leak!  REALLY!!???

I would not recommend Phillips, Try AirServe

Response from Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning Company

"We have been recommending a new boiler at this address for several years. The boiler is leaking CO into the boiler jacket. This boiler is operating in an unsafe condition. We also suggested new radiator steam vents as the current steam vents are not fully operational which is causing inefficient operation. Our recommendation was to replace the boiler and steam vents, resulting in a safer, more efficient system. Replacing the thermocouple was enough to restore heat in an unsafe manner. We are more than happy to meet any interested party on site, to show our findings."

Our furnace was nearly 60 years old and was dying a slow, agonizing death.  When John Phillips, Jr. came to my house to give me my "free" estimate in regards to what I would need in a new furnace and what it would cost, it was very comforting to know I was dealing with a true professional who not only cared about what I wanted and could afford, but was very pleasant throughout the process.  After my husband and I talked it over, we decided to hire Phillips Heating &  Air Conditioning not only for a new furnace but chose to also have central air installed and we were not disappointed.  John  explained what would take place and that it would only take a day (and it did) and come spring, the A/C would be completely installed.  When the day came to install the furnace, Austin and Kevin were the professionals who arrived on time, kept working the whole time and not only completed the work in one day but did one heck of a job doing that.  They even hauled out my old furnace.  Kevin and Austin were friendly, courteous and knew what they were doing.  They respected your house and the space they were working in by cleaning up and making sure they did not get anything else dirty.  It was a pleasure to have them install my furnace.  I would recommend Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning to anyone who wanted top-quality professionals to install their heating and/or air needs.  This company will be the caretakers of my new furnace throughout its existence and then some.

My experience with Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning (Jim Phillips) was phenomenal.  Jim was initially contacted to provide an estimate to extend my current hot water/radiant heating system to a new section of our home, the kitchen. To my dismay, I was informed by Jim (and every other heating professional that visited my home) that not only was my preconceived solution inefficient, but the current house system was inadequately designed. (Which explained why the house would never get
above 62 F in the winter despite running the furnace constantly.)  As an engineer by profession, I prefer to know the specifics of any job before committing to a decision. Jim was more than willing to sit down with me to discuss the specifics, offer his professional opinion, and to explain his assessment in detail.
Estimates from several companies were obtained and ranged up to $20,000 for a job that was initially budgeted at an order of magnitude less. The estimate from Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning was not the lowest nor was it the highest from all the estimates.  Based on my interactions with Jim I felt the most confident in the quality of work that would be performed by Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning, unfortunately I was not able to afford the full-service solution.  After discussing the specifics of estimate with Jim I proposed a second option which would provide the necessary mechanical solution to correct the heating  situation in my home while minimizing the associated labor costs. This option involved working with Jim to provide the specifications on a new, properly designed system and myself to perform the labor for installation. In addition to the consultation on the initial design, Jim also provided continuous support (i.e., late-night phone calls) while I taught myself how and how not to install the system. Jim also offered to loan out his personal tools so that I could complete the project
without having to buy specialized tooling.
In the end I spent several thousands of dollars on hardware, developed a new appreciation for the plumbing trade, and depleted my vacation hours performing a job that I would have hired Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning to do, had I budgeted correctly. Jim was the only person willing to go out of his way to accommodate my needs. Without his generosity I honestly do not know how I would resolved the situation I found myself in. I would have no hesitation to work with Jim again, although if there is ever a next time I hope to be in better financial shape such that I can afford to utilize all the services Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning has to offer.

Jim Phillips came out and gave me a (free!) second opinion on an expensive job that had been recommended by another company.  The scheduling, timing, and service call were all handled very professionally.  Most importantly, Jim's expert diagnostic skill saved me a lot of money on a repair / replacement of my furnace that ruined out to be unnecessary.  I very much appreciate this expert and professional service call, and will be switching to Phillips for my regular furnace service.
