". We sent our proposal attached in an email at 2:57 pm on Wednesday March 30, to the address that we had on file. We are not sure if it was an incorrect email address or if it went to the junk mail by mistake."
I have been using them for a long time. Among the things they check on is carbon monoxide. They only charge $79 for the checkup. I was always satisfied with what they did. That is not a steep price. They are courteous and everything. I would recommend them to other people.
They come out every year to do that.
I had purchased a service package through Angie's for Phillips, but not only wouldn't he do the simple system start-up for that price, he wouldn't refund the package I had purchased -- resulting in my paying $99 for a rip-off estimate.
While the tech was very nice, I could immediately tell he lacked much HVAC knowledge when he acted completely confused by the zoning system in my house & started asking really dumb questions about it. Then, to cover his lack of knowledge & perhaps set up a sale for even more work, he then started criticizing the system he didn't have the knowledge or experience to understand. (The system has worked perfectly since being started up by another company two years ago -- it took them 15mins)
If you want a nice guy who's prompt & wears blue booties, this might be your company, but if you need knowledgeable, reasonable & honest HVAC service, I would steer clear.
"This review contains information that is not factually accurate. We have never been to the address listed here, we did respond to a request for a clean and check at another address for this gentleman. We were paid $55 for the clean and check, not $99. There was no zoning in place on the system we assessed. The system had no refrigerant in it. Our quote for repairs included pressure testing, evacuation and adding refrigerant. This was a quote, not an estimate. We stand by our findings. The technician that performed the service is NATE certified and has been with us for over 20 years. We have never worn "blue booties" in 39 years in business. Yes, we wear shoe covers because we respect the people and homes that we visit. However, they are not blue booties. We understand that after 2 years have passed between the date of service and the date of the review it could be easy to mistake one company for another. Clearly, this is not how our 39 year track record and reputation have been built."
Long story short. The first sign of winter I try my furnace to see if all is good. When it does not turn on I call Phillips.
For the last three winters, I call Phillips. Winter 2015 comes around and I call. I get bad news this time. 13,000 worth of bad news including a Carbon leak.
My partner says " get a second opinion" So, I get a second opinion. Turns out the Thermo Couple needed to be replaced.
Home Depot for $13.00 and the Company that did the Second opinion showed me how to install it. Then I had the local Fire Department come in to do a Air Quality / Carbon Test for FREE and there is no leak! REALLY!!???
I would not recommend Phillips, Try AirServe
"We have been recommending a new boiler at this address for several years. The boiler is leaking CO into the boiler jacket. This boiler is operating in an unsafe condition. We also suggested new radiator steam vents as the current steam vents are not fully operational which is causing inefficient operation. Our recommendation was to replace the boiler and steam vents, resulting in a safer, more efficient system. Replacing the thermocouple was enough to restore heat in an unsafe manner. We are more than happy to meet any interested party on site, to show our findings."
above 62 F in the winter despite running the furnace constantly.) As an engineer by profession, I prefer to know the specifics of any job before committing to a decision. Jim was more than willing to sit down with me to discuss the specifics, offer his professional opinion, and to explain his assessment in detail.
Estimates from several companies were obtained and ranged up to $20,000 for a job that was initially budgeted at an order of magnitude less. The estimate from Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning was not the lowest nor was it the highest from all the estimates. Based on my interactions with Jim I felt the most confident in the quality of work that would be performed by Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning, unfortunately I was not able to afford the full-service solution. After discussing the specifics of estimate with Jim I proposed a second option which would provide the necessary mechanical solution to correct the heating situation in my home while minimizing the associated labor costs. This option involved working with Jim to provide the specifications on a new, properly designed system and myself to perform the labor for installation. In addition to the consultation on the initial design, Jim also provided continuous support (i.e., late-night phone calls) while I taught myself how and how not to install the system. Jim also offered to loan out his personal tools so that I could complete the project
without having to buy specialized tooling.
In the end I spent several thousands of dollars on hardware, developed a new appreciation for the plumbing trade, and depleted my vacation hours performing a job that I would have hired Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning to do, had I budgeted correctly. Jim was the only person willing to go out of his way to accommodate my needs. Without his generosity I honestly do not know how I would resolved the situation I found myself in. I would have no hesitation to work with Jim again, although if there is ever a next time I hope to be in better financial shape such that I can afford to utilize all the services Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning has to offer.
