My basement had been taking on water so I called Matt Mertz plumbing to make sure my french drains weren’t clogged. The technician came out and identified pretty quickly that the issue was much worse- I needed an interior french drain and sump pump installed. He gave me a quote and I scheduled the work to be done a few weeks later. The guys from Matt Mertz were awesome. They found more water issues on the other side of my basement, so the job was bigger than expected. They still finished with al of the work in 7 days- a few days ahead of schedule. I can’t say enough about their professionalism and great work.

Wont use again. The service would have been ok had they not destroyed one of my sprinkler pipes and wouldnt fix it because it was in their contract that they are not responsible for any damages. Another issue was that they charged me $89 to do a camera for the down spout and said they would credit me if i used them to do the project (i.e. gravel pit and clear blockage). i did use them, but they didnt credit me the $89. They said they gave me a discount and that the $89 went towards that...i'll have to use that "discount" to now pay someone to come out and fix the sprinkler pipe that they broke. Won't use again

We had water backing up into our kitchen and onto our floor. I called up Matt Mertz around 9pm and they said it would be no problem, they would have Tim contact me soon. Within 10 minutes, Tim called me and I provided him with the details. He said it was probably a blockage in the main and that he would come out and take a look at it. Within an hour, Tim was at the door. He was very friendly, despite the late hour. We talked a bit about what was happening and he discussed some of my options. Tim grabbed the super vee and started snaking it down the drain. He ran that snake down into the basement and after 20 minutes he was pulling out a rag that was lodged in our drain causing the problem. He then tested it by running a large amount of water from the 2nd floor to make sure nothing was backing up. It worked out that we were in the middle of a kitchen reno. All the cabinets were out and the room was empty. Tim then asks what type of sink we were installing and if we were installing a garbage disposal. I told him it was a farmhouse sink and yes, we were installing a disposal. He said, you have to move that main down, it will be too high with the disposal. We did some measurements and talked a bit more about it. He takes his tools and heads out to the truck and comes back in with the bill and a drawing, labeling everything that I need in order to get the drain moved. Honestly, this is the 2nd review I've written in my life. The first was for a giant eagle check out clerk who ran forgotten groceries out to me in a tsunami. Both were great examples of above and beyond customer service. Tim, can't thank you enough for helping me out. Thanks for not charging me a kitchen remodeling consultative fee! Matt

As I woke up Monday Morning, I heard a gentle waterfall in the background. I thought of what a peaceful morning it was. I made my morning coffee and decided to start my day with a shower. I turned on the shower and thought the water is really hot. Strange - I thought nothing more and continued with getting ready for work. Still not aware, I finished and started toward my garage. The gentle waterfall sounded more like a rush of water (my thoughts go to Houston as I write this). I open my laundry room door to see a steady stream of water flowing to my main drain. I immediately went to turn off my water main and research plumbers. We all have different sites to research to find good providers - I went to 3 different sources. This is my house. This is much different than a meal out. I found Matt Mertz Plumbing. All 3 sources had good reviews. The gent I spoke to on the phone was very helpful. He was calm and asked questions. Of course, I was not prepared for his questions. He patiently waited and guided me around my house to get necessary information. He asked for me to take pictures and to email the corp email (I love modern technology) to assess the information. He provided me an estimate and explained how they would dispatch a plumber. All was very straight forward and appreciated. Then the adventure begun for the plumber Rob (AKA McGuyver) and myself. The previous owner basically dry-walled the water heater into place. The new water heaters are considerably wider due to efficiency improvements. We began our construction / demo of a portion of a wall so that the new water heater go be put in place (please note that there were any other real options). Feeling cool - Please note that I am not allowed to use a hammer in my house for obvious reason - I put in a small Kool-Aid Man hole (5 ft High / 3 ft Wide) into the wall so the water heater could be installed. McGuyver was able to remove an additional portion (just enough to get the water heater moved into place). Rob (McGuyver) was able to complete his work and provide hot water like a magician pulls a bunny out of a hat. The emergency was resolved the same day very close to the estimated cost. Rob will be a person I request for all future work (replace an electric stove with a gas stove). A strong recommend especially when you are in need. The entire company from the original call to the various call backs to Rob and exceeded my expectations. Now I am off to learn all I can about drywall (thank you Google / YouTube).

Rob called when he was on his way to my home; and called again when stuck in traffic knowing he would be late. I appreciated the update. When he arrived he got right to work snaking the drain to my septic. He found and cleared the blockage within minutes. He recommended a free video inspection to ensure the blockage wasn’t due to roots or something more serious in the line. I HIGHLY recommend making Matt Mertz your Plumber!

We have had nothing but positive experiences with Matt Mertz. They identify the problem, present an estimate, schedule repair, all in the same day. They show up on time, work non stop and deliver a degree of professionalism that I have never experienced otherwise. Since moving, we’ve had 7-8 different Matt mertz guys in for various problems and each one is fantastic.

Would highly recommend, we had a great experience. So happy with Chris, he came out and fixed an issue we’ve been dealing with for awhile. He was very knowledgeable and professional, explaining what he was doing as a fix and tips to help prevent it in the future. Very happy with the service and company, will definitely be calling them for future needs.

How did today go? In a word - fantastic. Shawn reinforced the reason today that Matt Mertz Plumbing has been the only company I call for my plumbing needs. Not only is everyone knowledgeable, personable, and professional - they are honest. There are never any fears that the work is being artificially inflated or being done halfway. I can be comfortable asking their opinion and knowing the recommendations provided are what would be done on their own personal jobs.

I called to make an appointment for a repair and requested that they send 2 people because we knew that a stacked washer/dryer needed to be moved in order to get to the access panel for the plumbing. The scheduler made the appointment, but she sounded hesitant, so I called back and requested a different appointment for a time when 2 people could come. Again, she hedged, so I called a third time to have her confirm that 2 people would come. She assured me that the plumber they sent "would be able to do what needs to be done," which sounded to me like he would call for a helper if he needed one. She never said, "our plumbers don't move appliances." The plumber came and said he could not move the washer/dryer and that we would have to hire someone to move them. We paid the $135 service call minus the $15 coupon for a total of $120.00 for this information. I called to complain about this and was told that Matt Mertz plumbing does not move appliances. I asked why I wasn't told this when I scheduled the repair, & he felt that the scheduler probably didn't know this. He said we would have to get the appliances moved and then he would take $120 off the job after they came back and did the work. I felt that their advertising indicated that they did big jobs and that this was deceitful. I did not want to pay movers and then pay plumbers. I found a plumber who had a helper and used them instead of calling Mertz back. I would not put my trust in this operation.

Very responsive at both scheduling for quoting the job and scheduling for the work itself. Not always what you get when working with contractors. Clay provided quality professional work in completing the job.

"While I understand the above persons urgency in this matter, we can only do so many jobs in a day. I am sorry we could not help you right away. We would never say that we couldn't get there until the following week. We do have the following days and also weekends open. Also, Matt Mertz does not have a brother. If you ever have any concerns about our service, please call into the office and ask to speak with myself, Lisa Mertz. Thank you for taking the time to read this."

Matt Mertz came to fix a leaky shower drain that seeped into our kitchen ceiling. The first contractor estimated a cost of nearly $1500 to fix the damage, but Mertz came in, fixed the drain in no time, and charged us a quarter of the original contractor's estimate. We saved time and money with Matt Mertz's Plumbing and could not recommend them enough.

Jim was honest, professional, and friendly. He repaired pipes that had previously been incorrectly installed by someone who is not a plumber, and he advised about what will be needed to complete further repair work that needs to be done. We will definitely hire again in the future.

Positives: The plumbers did good work. They arrived promptly. The work cost exactly as quoted in the estimates. The work is modern, solid, and should last for years. Negatives: I was disappointed with the initial unresponsiveness, although to their credit they did make things right. I would have also preferred that they tell me that initial work would not solve the underlying problem. The second plumber was not feeling well when he was performing the work. I think it may have taken him a few hours longer, but I did feel sympathetic at the time. I had Matt Mertz Plumbing perform work over roughly a two-month period. My main issue is that it took several days for Matt Mertz Plumbing to respond to me when I tried to setup a date and time to perform the initial work. It took three phone calls over a week. At first, I was unhappy and I made this known. Matt Mertz Plumbing to their credit, did react and correct the situation and offer a discount on the first job that I hired them to perform. A representative came to my home and I explained the problem and what work that I wanted down. The way the drain pipes were connected to a basement sink were out of date and awfully done with several right angles by the previous owner. I original thought this is why when the washer drained into the sink that debris from the washer was clogging the drain. I was given a quote to have this replaced. This is where was the responsiveness issue that I mentioned above. Eventually a plumber came out, and replaced what was under the sink, built a separate standing pipe, and the snaked the drain pipe. Once he was done snaking the line the drain no longer functioned, and there was water all over the basement floor. My initial reaction was “what have you done?” The first plumber explained that there was a problem in the drain pipe behind a basement wall and that it would be a separate job to cut open the wall and track down the issue. After some thought I decided to have Matt Mertz come out and track down the issue rather than use someone else. I figured if they were responsible, then I would deal with it. The second plumber did a good job of cutting open a small hole and then taking apart a wall which consisted of antiquated wood paneling. After he was done, I was able to salvage most of it and put it back up. The issue was that the drain pipe that came from the basement sink & washer did not go into the main stack pipe, but to a separate and ugly connection in the sewer. In short this was not done correctly and well hidden by the previous owner of the house. The plumber corrected this but cutting open the main stack pipe and ran new pipes so that it connected to the stack pipe. However, at the end of job he placed a piece of scrap wood over the hole that represented the old connection. At the time I let it go, but the next day when I ran the washer, soap suds came up through the hole and the wood was an inadequate cover. I did find a plug at the hardware store that I used to permanently seal the hole that did a better job.

They showed up before i was even there and put the camera down the wrong downspout. It was supposed to be the back right, they put it down back-left. When i got there, they said, let's go inside, there's no blockage". I showed him where the water was and he said it would be an internal drain and it would cost $8500. I found out that what he recommended was illegal. I paid $65 for the scope. I have asked them to come out on numerous occasions to come check the correct drain to get the problem rectified correctly, but so far, they will not comply.

"I, Lisa Mertz, spoke with the customer after seeing this review. This was the first time I heard about the customer being unhappy with our services. I immediately reached out to her and listened to her concerns. We then had a separate tech out to get another set of eyes on this and another's perspective. The tech found the same exact findings and confirmed the estimate- which is legal to do. After our tech went out, I called the customer to confirm their satisfaction with our service was fulfilled. If any issues do come up with our work or services, please do not hesitate to contact myself directly as I am more than happy to listen. Thank you, Lisa Mertz"
