I called the office Thursday 9am and they scheduled the tech for next day Friday at Noon. He called to confirm the appointment and arrived promptly. After evaluating the issue, the tech was done in 30 minutes. This hose bib was broke for 9 months and MMP fixed it in 30 minutes. I was charged about $225 which I thought was a little on the high side for 30 minutes of labor and roughly $35 in parts. However, I couldn't fix it myself, he had all the parts and tools ready to go, and the fix was quick and easy for them. Also the tech put in a threaded fitting so I can replace the hose bib if it fails in the future. The broke bib was soldered all the way and too hard to remove for me. Excellent job, MMP!

Where do I even begin my praise for this company? Simply put, no one wants to spend this amount of money on a surprise home repair but Matt & his team really made this as painless and stress free as possible. We feel good about the money we spent knowing that it's a solid investment in improving/maintaining our home and good in knowing our money is going to an honest, truly wonderful business. We had our basement drain backup a few times before I called around to get quotes for a plumber to come and camera inspect our lines. Matt Mertz's team was able to schedule us quickly and sadly were able to quickly confirm the worst possible reason for the backups, a collapsed sewer line under our concrete basement. We scheduled the initial repair work, knowing after our basement line was clear, Matt's team needed to finish camera inspecting the rest of the line running to the street. Again, we ran into more bad news when we found out our pipe was cracked and a section of it was missing under our garage. So the job doubled and our trenchless repair process began. Though this job ran longer than anticipated, Matt's team hooked up our lines every single night before leaving, so we were able to still function and live in our house throughout every process in this repair. Additionally, the workspace in the basement was clean and tidy every night, we would come home from work and peek down at the progress. Throughout everything Matt's team communicated every diagnosis, providing proper documentation to our insurance company and explaining everything in detail to us. I called with many questions and Sam, their receptionist could not have been nicer about helping me communicate with their team and helping to coordinate everything through our homeowners insurance. Like I said, this was not a fun surprise, especially having the added stress of the timing of me being 9 months pregnant-but I can honestly say I feel good about the whole process. Thank you Matt and everyone on your wonderful team. You have customers for life, although I hope to not see you guys for awhile now :) Also, I'm so thankful for Angies List reviews, other reviewers are who led me here. I'm glad to contribute to the growing list of stellar reviews for Matt Mertz Plumbing.

I noticed some water in my basement about a week ago. Fearing the worse, I went outside and checked the foundation. Everything appeared to be in order. When I went back downstairs, I noticed a water spot on the ceiling. After taking a saw to the drywall, the problem seemed bigger that I had thought. Drywall very wet, to the point that it was mush. Went back upstairs, filled up the sink half way, released the plug and then ran back downstairs. Water everywhere. I emailed Mertz plumbing on Tuesday morning and they had a nice young man (Jacob?) come out the following morning. Very professional and outgoing person. He informed us that the winter probably was the culprit and that he could take care of us. He didn't have a specific part that he needed, but got in touch with a team member who dropped it by the house. In and out in a couple of hours and now we can wash dishes. Next up finding someone to fix the drywall and carpet. Hopefully it goes as smoothly as the plumbing.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen sink drain pipe that froze/cracked from the hard winter.
Very pleased with the entire process. Every individual we were in contact with was professional and worked around our schedule/needs. Matt himself came to our property to camera the lines and give us an estimate of the work to be done. His estimate was well below the pricing of a competitor and he thoroughly explained the problems and how he would go about fixing those problems. Their office staff was very helpful. We had to work around a family event and they were always willing to listen to our requests and did so in a professional manner. The plumbers worked on our property for two days and did a great job. Minimal impact on my family as they were working (other than having to turn the water off for short amounts of time, but we were told that upfront). The guys did a great job of replacing the trap/cleanout in the yard without having to dig up any of my sidewalk. Same thing in the basement. The left both work areas in good looking condition after they were finished. All in all, a great experience from start to finish. Thanks.

Matt and crew arrived promptly and finished all work over three days (one day was a rain-out). The driveway had been covered with water after rains due primarily to the township resurfacing the street which left no drainage from the driveway. A metal drain was installed, concrete refinished, and a drain pipe was installed to carry the water away. The crew was prompt, fast, and cleaned up afterwards. I would recommend them to any future clients.

THE PROBLEM: The tail pipe running from the basket in my kitchen sink into the drain died of old age and needed to be replaced. BACKGROUND: I live in an old home (nearly 200 years old) and the kitchen is vintage to the 1940s. The old farmhouse sink had a heavy duty stainless drain basket, brass nut and metal tail pipe that hooked with newer (still vintage) plumbing. We were replacing the kitchen faucet (ourselves) on a Saturday when the pipe disintegrated and I punted and called a plumber. They were able to schedule someone to come out and repair the tail/drain pipe very quickly (but not as an emergency call) which was great. They were out on Monday and they sent a plumber named Chris. THE BAD: I was NOT there but my husband did say Chris was pleasant and prompt. It as when Chris began working that things started going wrong. Chris removed not only the disintegrated pipe but the perfectly good basket and brass nut and replaced it with one of the flimsiest kitchen drain baskets I've ever seen and a short length of what seemed to be very 'cheap' PVC pipe and plastic nut under the sink. I wasn't home when he did the work, my husband was and regrettably didn't pay enough attention to what Chris was doing until it was too late. When I arrived home and saw the new basket I was not pleased and more I was completely furious to find that my kitchen sink, which for 60 years had drained like a champ, was now backing up after 10-15 seconds of the water running! I asked my husband if he questioned Chris about this new development and he said he had and Chris told him it was a problem with the configuration of our plumbing and there was nothing he could do. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt we gave it a couple of days and a bottle of drain cleaner to see if the problem would somehow remedy itself. In fact, it did not. Here are the things we noted: 1) Metal pipe was replaced with what seemed to be flimsy pvc under the sink (-1) 2) The basket he had replaced (my perfectly good one) with was narrower (by at least 1/2 an inch) and deeper (our old mesh strainer didn't even fit halfway into the basket in the sink (-5) 3) The gasket he'd used to fit the pvc pipe and pvc nut was protruding into the sink pipe, narrowing the channel by ~1/4 inch (-5) 4) I discovered that not only had Chris removed our old basket and nut but he took it with him.... (-10) I called the company, explained the situation to the woman who answered the phone. (i.e., the sink was suddenly not draining and the pipe fittings appeared to be wrong) She said she needed to get in touch with the plumber and would call me back that day. I told her I was leaving town and wouldn't be available again until Monday after 3 PM that day (Thursday). I never received a call. When I got home from my trip there was a message on the answering machine from Chris, the plumber, left at 3:30 on Friday saying to give him a call about the problem. I attempted to return the call several times (from work) the following Tuesday. Each time I called Chris' phone I got an automated message saying that the phone was not set up for voice mail. I left a text message asking that Chris please TEXT my cell as I couldn't get calls at work, but could step away and call him back immediatly if he'd text me. After not hearing from him I finally called the main office again the next day, explained I was having trouble getting hold of Chris and could someone please have him text me so I could call him. The next day I received a text from Chris to call him. I did [within 5 minutes of the text] and got....the automated 'phone not set up with voice mail' message again. A few minutes later Chris called my phone. I was able to duck into a conference room and take the call, but normally this would not have been acceptable and I had expressed that numerous times. I spoke with him, explained what the problem was and that having a kitchen sink that didn't drain was not an option and furthermore, it wasn't the issue before he worked on it. Chris informed me that there was nothing that could be done, it was a problem with the configuration of my plumbing and that he could come back and take out the seal I was seeing protruding into the drain pipe but my pipes might leak. THIS was his solution. He also told me that the brass nut and heavy duty stainless basket had "fallen apart". I know this is untrue but was not in a place where I could discuss it further. I simply told him that was not an acceptable answer, he told me he'd talk with his manager and see what they could do. The next day I received a phone call (again, on a work day after having told the main office and Chris multiple times I could NOT receive calls while at work) to schedule a call with a 'master' plumber. HERE IT GETS BETTER: In order for me to be available for the second house call they scheduled me on a Saturday morning (+1) The plumber they sent out was named Phil. He called before he came out, arrived on time, was professional and polite. (+1) Phil listened to my description of what was there initially and the 'excuse' that Chris gave as to why suddenly my plumbing was not functioning and new immediately what the problem was. (+5) Phil quickly replaced the cheap PVC tail pipe with a metal pipe comparable to the one that Chris had removed. (+5) He replaced the narrow, shallow basket Chris had put in with one that had a slightly wider and shallower drain (+5) What's more, he extended the length of the metal pipe back to it's original length (Chris had shortened it by several inches) (+5) Now? My sink is back to its old self! Draining like a champ and Phil even replaced the aerator on the faucet he noticed needed replaced. So thanks to Phil and his professionalism, clear understanding of how old homes and old plumbing work and attention to the details, my opinion of the company came back from an F to an A. My only qualms are the lack of professionalism from Chris, the fact that after repeatedly being told I couldn't take calls at work they (Chris and the main person I spoke with at the office) continued to try calling me are the reasons they don't get an A for 'responsiveness' and 'professionalism'. Luckily, Phil is a master plumber and did a fantastic job fixing the issues! I would use them again and would recommend them but I would also caution that if you have a special situation like older plumbing or other 'oddities' be very specific that you'd like one of their 'master' plumbers to address your problem. Thanks for making it right!!

Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
Wow! Where to start. I guess "Thank you" for the business and taking the time to make a review. 2nd, Chris IS a Master Plumber, so is Phil. We have a copy of his Master Plumbing license on file at the office , which we will be happy to forward to anyone interested. The existing sink strainer did in fact fall apart, thus causing the need for replacement. The parts we supply are top quality and are not " Flimsy". We prefer to use plastic waste assemblies, as they do not corrode and will far out last "chrome" which is really thin gauge brass that is chrome plated. My guys are instructed to use plastic waste lines where ever possible. The only time I recommend brass piping is when it is exposed such as on a pedestal sink, which provides for a more polished, complete look. I am glad that the customer allowed us to make it right with them, and if we are lucky enough to work for them again, they can absolutely request Phil. Chris is an excellent plumber and please do not pass judgment due to a customers misunderstanding of plumbing material and its intended uses. We always try our best to make things right the first time, but in the event that a customer is not 100% satisfied, we will always go back to make things right, which is the moral to this long review. Thanks again for the business. Matt
Of three services from Angie's that I asked for quotes, Matt Mertz was by far the lowest (one other plumber quoted me three times the price). We scheduled a 2-day appointment for the next week. It rained heavily overnight, so they called early that day and asked to reschedule for the next day, since digging in the backyard isn't very productive after a heavy rain. They came early the next day, and were able to call in additional crews as needed. All digging and pipe replacement was completed on the first day of work, and on the second day of work they had the pipe inspected by the city, backfilled the hole, and flushed out the pipe (and cleaned up around the basement drain). The only additional cost was the flushing, which was optional and not part of the original scope. They finished on time, with high quality, and for the price originally quotes, with friendly, professional technicians. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: The sewer line from the house had a leak, and this was causing the line to back up from a drain in the (unfinished) basement after it rained. They did a camera inspection of the line, dug up the backyard by hand (access ways were too narrow for large digging equipment), and replaced approximately six linear feet of piping, also installing an access point for the backyard.

It was great. I had called in the am due to a small leak, the small leak went from a small drip to a large mess by my husband and I trying to tighten the faucet. The main needed to be shut off and we had to wait a few hours until the plummer arrived. Actually only 3 hours. He came in very professional, assessed the problem and promptly repaired everything in a little over an hour. He cleaned up after himself, and offered to look at any other problems we may have had in the house. I have used this company a few times before and have always been very satisfied. I will only use them in the future.

I called Matt Mertz Plumbing in the evening and asked if someone could replace a water heater the next day. Not a problem and they gave me a time frame. Jim and another plumber (sorry, can't remember his name) showed up when they said they would. They were polite, professional and answered all questions even though several weren't about they job they came to do. They were quick and clean in their work and had hot water to my home again in less than hour. I will certainly use them again in future jobs as well as recommend them to my friends.

Initially was going to use the trenchless lining system fo 40 ft up to the house and then 30 ft to the sewer main. Also discovered an old septic tank. ( that was crushed and filled) The trenchless would not work due to the condition of the line under the street. Dug out terra cota line and tied it into the existing lower plastic line. dug part of existing plastic as to move trap to within 5 ft of house. Dug down hill and temped a plastic line to the street terra cotta. (so I would have sewere usage through the weekend) Dug street replaced existing with plastic and tied new junction into main sewer line. Completed street work, then top soiled the scars left from digging, seeded and covered with mushroom mulch. Cleaned up and it was done. It was quite a project but it was done expeditiously. The crews were great and worked extremeley hard. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MATT MERTZ PLUMBING, fair pricing and excellent work

Had a clog sewer line. Called one of Angie's list plumbers to do a snake and video inspection. The snake didn't work so they brought out a water jet. They could go only so far and visual inspection showed a break in the line. This plumber gave me a really high estimate. I decided to call two other plumbers. I chose Mertz because they gave the fairest price and they came highly recommended by both Angie's List and BBB. They spent three days which they said it would take. The inspector was pleased with their work. They finished up and cleaned up the mess.

First of all i had the septic tank cleaned and they guy who cleaned it said the drain to the septic is either clogged or broke. So then i went into a panic, he tried to release the (clog) but was unsuccessful and told me to rent a snake, he said that should do the job. Of course me is thinking the worse that it could be a broken pipe and all the bad senerarios who am i going to call that could come out today. Then i went on hear angieslist saved me time and time again. I saw a few and called them they said they didnt do that type of work or had bad reviews then i saw Matt Mertz Plumbing and i called them.at 11am a lady answered i explained to her what the problem was and she said she would have someone out between 2-6pm i was like ok! Then Joe called at about 315 i was so relieved he was coming out. He arrived promptly and was very curteous, i explained the situation and he ran a his snake up and saw the blockage and was able to remove all the gonk it came gushing out. He said it was clogged about 4-5 feet of grease etc. So then after to be sure he ran the scope camera and showed me that there was no breaks in the pipe i was so revealed. Joe was on time very punctuational and explained what to do and what not to do. Its hard to find someone that you can trust well i found my plumber that is for sure. I can now sleep easy know that my septic drain is clear. Thank you Joe and Matt Mertz plumbing for coming out the same day and taking care of the situation.

We had been having issues with what seemed to be water leaking into the basement. It wasn't long before we realized the "water" was coming out of a cleanout pipe--it was sewage!! Matt Mertz plumbing came over and used a camera to see that the pipe was full of roots and they couldn't access the remainder of the pipes because our outside fresh air pipe was blocked. They used a snake to cut the roots out, but within a day or so, the cleanout pipe backed up into the basement again. Matt Mertz recommended replacing the pipes where the roots were entering, because they might be broken, as well as replacing the blocked fresh air pipe outside. They came to the house on the coldest days of the year and dug very diligently down to the sewage pipe, of which the wrong diameter had been installed (we had had a larger diameter terra cotta pipe leaving the house, merging into a smaller diameter plastic pipe, and then connecting in to another larger diameter terra cotta pipe. They removed this section of plastic pipe and replaced it with the proper size pipe, and added new vertical clean-out pipes. They also used a hydro-jet to clear the roots from the pipes before shooting a lining through because of the sheer amount of roots invading the pipes. The amazing thing about the job they did was that they used a lot of ingenuity to avoid having to dig a giant ditch in the basement. They actually fed plastic pipe through the existing pipe in the foundation of the house to save the headache of digging so much more. It was below zero for the days that they were here. The price they quoted us was broken down by each part of the job (lining, replacement of X pipe, etc) and was very reasonable for the sheer amount of work, people, and equipment needed. In the spring, I called Matt Mertz plumbing to cut down the pipes in the yard. Not only did they cut down the pipes, but they reseeded the yard and put straw down! In the late spring (6/14/14), I again contacted Matt Mertz about our driveway, which had been dug under during the digging of the trench in the yard and had since begun to collapse as the dirt continued to settle underneath it. I asked them if they could perhaps fill the hole with gravel or something to prevent it from collapsing any further, because we would lose the use of our driveway. Sure enough, Matt Mertz plumbing came back out to the house and not only filled the sinking hole with gravel, but they asphalted (and very neatly, I might add), the previously-collapsed part of the driveway. Matt Mertz plumbing is a wonderful company that is very conscientious and does a great job well after the main job is done! They clearly want to make their customers happy, and they have! The basement no longer leaks sewage and the driveway is all fixed! I would recommend them to anyone!
