Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert

Joe (?) came to provide a second opinion on a blocked sewer lateral. I asked for him to try to clear it by snake and he declined. He suggested trying to clear it by hydro-jet at a cost of $550. They returned the next day with the hydro-jet machine and made an brief attempt to clear the line, spending perhaps 10 minutes in the attempt. He asked what my current bid was for opening the front yard (6' dig with marked gas and water interference) and bid $4200 ($300 less than the competing bid), plus offered to apply the $550 hydro-jet fee to that bill. Mertz Plumbing expended the least effort and charged the most for the initial diagnosis of any of the 4 companies that gave me bids, so I did not pursue it future.

The guys showed up promptly and did their work without a hitch. Great guys! And they cleaned up after themselves !!! No problems !!!! I'd definitely use them again !!!

Shawn and Dan were Very professional, courteous, punctual and communicative. The entire crew worked together very quickly and quietly throughout the entire process! Compared to the City workers who had to repair the street side water main, Shawn and Dan put them to shame and even cleaned up after them. I would recommend Mertz Plumbing to anyone. Very Satisfied!!!!!

They were very knowledgeable and courteous over the phone. The plumber that came out was outstanding. He knew what he was doing and very professional and neat. I called and spoke with the owners wife to let them know how happy I was, and after the call I felt like I had known her for year. She was very professional and pleasant. I will tell everyone to use this company. I can not say enough good things about this company. I plan on bringing a dozen doughnuts over soon.

Steve arrived on time and quickly worked to disconnect & remove old water heater from the basement. As no gas line shut-off valve existed, the supply had to be shut off at the meter. With a replacement 40-gal unit previously purchased and unboxed by the homeowner, Steve wasted little time in connecting it to the water lines and ventilation system. Additionally, he installed a local shut-off valve for the gas line and verified operation of HVAC system after re-enabling gas flow at the meter. Probably the longest time on any one task was lighting the pilot as air in the line had to clear. Beyond the water heater replacement, I required the installation of several 1/4-turn ball valves on 1/2" copper water supply lines, eliminating the remaining 50-yr old multi-turn gate valves at the property. The final task was to checkout an intermittent (noisy) PRV which was originally installed in Oct 2015. Unfortunately, the noise issue did not appear during the evaluation, so Steve tweaked the pressure adjustment a bit (at owner's request), cleaned up the job site, delivered the invoice, collected payment, and departed to his next assignment. As often happens, intermittent problems generally return after repair technicians have left the site. This was the case with the PRV. Less than 20 minutes after the plumbing truck pulled away, the valve was vibrating significantly (high dB level) as water was running thru the system. After a quick call to Steve and the main office, the company's dispatcher committed to sending a plumber back to the same location before the end of the day to resolve the problem. Even though it was a long day for Rory and this job was not on his original schedule, he arrived in the early evening and quickly replaced the PRV and anti-siphon valve, covered under warranty. Wow, that's great service. Overall, another excellent experience from the professionals at Matt Mertz Plumbing! I have utilized their skills multiple times and continue to highly recommend these guys.

He found the cause of our flooded basement. He used a camera to inspect our lines and showed us the condition. He found a broken back check valve. He advised us to contact the municipality to determine if it was our property or theirs because he suspected it might not be our responsibility. He did not charge us anything for this inspection and advise. He also gave us a ballpark estimate of what he would charge if we hired him to come back and do the work. He was very professional and took the time to explain everything.

Not very well. Person they sent seemed to be inexperienced. Worked for hours on two (2) faucets. Finally told us one was defective (think he broke it). Never completed the job. Presented the bill and I was shocked. Told me that's what the company charges and there was nothing he could do. When my son got home he finished the installation in no time. Very costly experience and would never call this plumber ever again.

By far the easiest plumbers I've ever worked with. Very good about giving the heads up call materially before they show up for quote and work. The final price was exactly what they quoted. Both people we met with were friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They worked efficiently and result is exactly what we discussed. Look no further for a plumber. The experience couldn't have been any better. Offered to come back and install new shower fittings if we were interested. Very comfortable people to work with.

Rory came out and could not have been nicer. This was a small job, but he called ahead of time and arrived earlier than planned, did a great job, cleaned everything up, and did a great job shimming the toilet which is sitting a bit high. He was kind enough to also looked at some other work I will be having done in the near future, and explained what I needed to have done before the plumbing could be accomplished. He referred me to both an electrician and a construction/renovation company, which I really appreciated. All around I was impressed with Rory and the quality of the work. I will certainly use this company in the future. The only negative thing I have to say is that I was expecting a discount based on the information on Angie's List. Apparently, you have to schedule through Angie's List to qualify for the discount. I found this company on Angie's List, but called instead of scheduling online.

Scheduling was easy and fast. I called on Friday and they were able to come see us the next day (Saturday) for no extra charge. Bob L. was fantastic! He explained everything to my husband and was quick. We ran into an unexpected issue with our main shut off valve leaking and thus it needed replaced. Bob worked efficiently and was really great with our dog and family members we had over that day. We couldn't have asked for better service and we would absolutely recommend them to our family.

The service was very thorough and the work performed was excellent. I will use them again.

I was once again very pleased with Matt Mertz Plumbing, My furnace stopped working on a very cold day. Rich came out and diagnosed that there were cracks internally. I was given a price to replace the old furnace. The price was reasonable and Rich did a great job replacing it. I would never use anyone else for plumbing and heating issues.

I own my own business and I called Matt Mertz Plumbing for my annual back flow test. Shawn did a great job and I was extremely pleased with how professional he was. Matt Mertz Plumbing is my go to plumber!!

Steve A. came to see why my sump pump wasn't working. He diagnosed and explained everything to me patiently. He also gave me a guess as to the cost before doing work. The bill reflected that he had guessed accurately. He also cleaned the area where he worked. Everyone was friendly and accurate. The job was done well and quickly. I would use them again. Also, I got $25 off of my order because I am a member of Angie's List - love that!

The tech called me hours earlier than agreed to fit me in due to his schedule. (had scheduled 2-6 and moved meetings around to work at home - but 11:15 worked for them around another job) The appointment itself was great. The tech was very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful - even noting we had a secondary clean out down the line that was the real culprit and required a snake. Overall, they charged $175 despite $99 Angie's List special. I assumed this was due to having to snake two drains, but wanted to note the discrepancy. However, then the dreaded 'but wait there's more' situation presented itself - my pipe has a low belly in it, which of course needs to be replaced 'ASAP' and 'could fail completely at any minute'. Plus, my addition has its own pipe which 'could be done at a discount at the same time'. Overall estimate - $8,500 (which they then offered to reduce after I declined the first time by $1,500 - so keep in mind their first price is never their best). I expect some upsale in the name of 'best interests', but what happened next is what is causing me to write this review. Over the next two months - I have been contacted by this company five separate times about the estimate they provided. The first time, I told them I was still considering it. (and the price mysteriously dropped!). The second time, I told them I just did not want to spend the money and things were working well at this point, so please do not call again. The third time, I asked them again to please not contact me regarding this quote as I was not going to complete the repair. The fourth time, I told them I would not be using their company for any future services due to the continued calling. Today marked the FIFTH call I have received regarding my quote, and I told the guy that not only did their back office practices need serious work, but that I would strongly recommend my friends/family use another plumbing service. So that's my story. Great and fast service when it occurred from the plumber (despite being significantly early) - but the company as a whole will try to push their expensive services on you and harass you repeatedly until you do.

Rory was punctual, pleasant and very professional (and he gets along well with dogs). It took him about the time we anticipated to do the work. Everything was cleaned and all repairs were well done and continue to operate flawlessly. We would hire Mertz Plumbing again (and will probably ask for Rory).

Seamlessly excellent and fast service. Company rep Brian was superior and helpful with advice about the product and possible other products and applications. The rep arrived on time and worked smoothly.

Rory explained all of our options and completed the job in a few hours. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable and left the area in perfect condition. The new faucets look great!

Great, Jim B. the tech was efficient, cleaned his work area when done, replumbed some old work that needed it, put in a new shutoff for the outside, installed and setup water softener and hot water heater,,, overall a good experience.

Just seems like all they wanted to do was sell me stuff and not fix the issue.

I took a week or so before I wrote this review to #1 get my thoughts together after being treated so poorly #2 to give the company a chance to make right #3 took time to research Angies list for comments from their customers and their responses. Within the companies responses is where I found the problem I had experienced. All of their responses to complaints is to take the defensive and be critical of the customers as being a fake customer or competitor. They never take accountability or offer a resolution, and this is in writing! As executrix of my fathers estate since his death in July, I am responsible for his properties. On 2/16/16 a pipe busted in his home which was being remodeled. We called Matt Mertz Plumbing and made arrangements to meet a plumber at my dad?s home on 2/19/16 at 3:30pm. The plumber arrived 20 mins late saying he was stuck in traffic. Once he arrived he efficiently completed his job and said he needed paid $210. My sister whom had opened the door for him told him that since it was an estate I would need to come from my home in Penn Hills (5-8 mins away) to bring the check, he said he would wait. When I arrived the bill was $260 because he had to wait for me to come over. I have the phone call logs and it shows he waited 12 mins. He never told me that he was charging $50 for waiting for the check. When I called to complain I got the same attitudes as were displayed in their Angie List replys..aggressive and defensive which makes me believe the complaints even more. If they were insightful enough they would address the issues and resolve the problem. The 2 owners I spoke with both said it was their policy to charge by the time they are there, I thought it was for the time they worked, not waiting for payment. So if nothing else I want everyone to know that this company will charge you $50 for 12 mins while they are waiting for their payment of $210..25%! It was okay for him to be late and make us wait but waiting 12 mins for payment and charging $50, without letting me know that he was going to charge me $50. This even scares me more of how they handle business. I joined Angie s List just to warn everyone. Good service is not only the quality of the work but the attitude in which it is done and the honesty it is carried out with. ng
