They are very professional and did a fantastic job - from small repairs to entire replacement. Recommend them 100%.
Description of Work: Matt Mertz has provided plumbing services for the past year - started with replacing sporadic leaking pipes and escalated to replacing plumbing throughout the house. They have been absolutely fantastic to work with.

terrible. technician insisted sewer led to street and was collapsing. I insisted sewer leads to alley in back of house which it does and so we were at an impasse which we were. I paid the service charge and asked him to leave. sewer / drain pipe is fine

Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
I am having issues finding the information this person claims we did. I am also confused on the cost since we do not charge 69.00 for drain cleaning. I think they may have us mixed up with another company? Our plumbers are very well educated in the work they preform and I would be shocked to hear this. If you are a potential customer reading this, I ask if you ever have any concerns or thoughts, please do not hesitate to call into myself, Lisa. I want to make sure we keep our standards high but most importantly our customers happy and confident with us. Thank you!

Much better than I expected! I lost a lot of sleep worrying about this job. The plans were complicated by the shared line with the neighbors, who were understandably less than thrilled with the prospect of another dig, and with having their sidewalk and steps destroyed. (The earlier dig just went across the sidewalk, requiring a single pad to be replaced. This was potentially much more extensive. It would be my responsibility to pay for it, and in the interests of good-neighbor relations, I was willing to replace more than was destroyed, so that it didn't look patched up.) All of this negotiation took time and cost me a lot of sleep. I finally got an OK from them and MMP scheduled the job for mid October 2016. Another concern was that digging close to my porch pier might destabilize it (or they might have to go through the porch, in a worst-case scenario). They arrived on Monday morning and started work. Matt came out and asked the crew to try to avoid destroying the concrete if at all possible, and to keep the digging as far away from the porch as possible. When I came home from work, there were neat piles of dirt, the porch was safe, and all of my neighbors' concrete had been dug around and under -- it was all intact. (There was a brief water outage at the neighbors; their water line was in the path of destruction, and apparently, the water company hadn't been able to tell where it was. But it was a relatively minor inconvenience. On Tuesday, there was more digging, and the sewer line was completely replaced by the end of the day. They also replaced part of my water line. All concrete still intact! On Wednesday, while waiting for the health inspector, they disconnected and rerouted the front gutters from the sewer line (all nicely done, as well). We had talked about setting up rain barrels, but I didn't have time to get that sorted out (a later project). When I came home from work Wednesday night, they were still there (7:30pm), cleaning up. All the dirt was back in the holes, The downspouts had been rerouted, the hole in the basement (from the original attempts to clear the line) was filled and concreted up. They laid down some topsoil, grass seed, and straw. The whole job was done in 3 days, and then they came out promptly when I reported a sink hole near my neighbors' steps; it rained for two solid days after they finished, and the water apparently found a void in the fill under the concrete. Not surprising. The only downside is that a lot of my plants appear to be gone. My front yard is tiny, and I had a lot of plants. I suspect that I've lost a lot of them. I'd hoped they'd be spared, and the dirt piles missed them. But I suspect that the refilling of the holes probably took out a lot of them. I do not fault MMP for that -- I suspect I was overly optimistic about their fate. I was stunned at how much dirt was excavated! I'll definitely use them again for "normal" work, and if I ever need a job like this again (I hope not), I wouldn't hesitate to call them. Everyone I dealt with was great. They explained what they were doing, were easy to work with, and were reassuring in a high-stress situation. I have no complaints. Matt himself was very involved, and the crews were top-notch. Extra special kudos for avoiding my neighbors' concrete. Thanks, MMP! You guys rocked.
Description of Work: Replacement of a crumbled terracotta sewer line. It started as a sewage backup in the spring of 2016. I contacted the company because they had done similar work for my neighbors a few years ago, and the neighbors spoke highly of MMP. In addition, during that work, we discovered that our sewer lines joined under the neighbor's property and shared a line to the main under the street. MMP already knew the underground details, so if we needed to go that route, they already knew what was there. After attempting to snake and hydrojet the line in hopes of a trenchless replacement, the camera showed that the terracotta was crumbling, and there were places where there wasn't much left. The clearing solved the immediate problem, but it wasn't acceptable as a long-term solution. So we were looking at an excavation.

The jetting went splendidly. But there were complications. It turned out that the fitting connecting my interior line to the line under my house was held in place with duct tape. Literal d*** duct tape. Perhaps somewhere in the world there exists duct tape that can stand up to hydro-jetting, but this wasn't it. The fitting connecting the pipes got knocked free, and wound up lying in the larger pipe. I want to be absolutely clear about this: THIS WASN'T THEIR FAULT. I in no way hold them accountable for damaging my sewer; they had no way of knowing my system was held together with literal d*** duct tape. But the way they handled the situation forces me to take them down a grade. The guy on-site advised me I needed to get the situation dealt with NOW. Not only was that loose chunk of pipe a massive clog waiting to happen, if it made it further down the line, getting rid of it would entail tearing-up the street. The guy on-site gave me an estimate, indicated that they should be able to get to it after the weekend, advised me to limit my water usage, and told me the office would call. The office called the next day, and gave me a date three weeks later. After the on-site guy scared the hell out of me with how much I needed to get this done NOW, that was totally unacceptable. They managed to get it down to a week, but I wound up going with a competitor who both gave me a lower bid and got to me in just a few days. They did the job I hired them to do and did it $250 cheaper than anybody else I talked to. I'll likely need the line jetted again in a few years, and when I do, these guys will be first on my call list. But when things went a touch sideways, sorting it out wasn't a major priority. Can't say I was totally happy with that.
Description of Work: Home inspection revealed that my sewer line was infested with roots. I needed somebody to clean that out, and hope like hell none of the roots turned out to be load-bearing. I did some research, and decided to have the line hydro-jetted.

They installed the kitchen faucets I had purchased at Lowes and replaced the plastic traps and drain lines under the sink. Their tech did a very nice job. My only complaint was the $95.00 I was charged for the new water supply lines and pvc drain pieces. These would only cost about $40.00 at any hardware store. I should have asked for the price of the parts before I told him to go ahead with the drain replacement.

The guys arrived on time each day and ready to work. They started on the bathroom re-model first and were patient with picture-taking and questions on what they were seeing. They 'made it right' and now the bathroom is not only beautiful, but wonderfully functional. They then worked on the kitchen plumbing, ensuring everything was up to code and working perfectly. They passed all inspections with flying colors. They were very flexible when the countertop arrived broken and needed reordered which put our timetable in jeopardy. As soon as the new countertop was installed, Matt Mertz was there the next day and installed the sink and dishwasher. KUDOS
Description of Work: Matt Mertz Plumbing was the sub-contractor for my kitchen remodel and fix a poor bath remodel. When I started the kitchen remodel, I asked the sub-contractor to check work done on the bathroom (remodeled previously) as I was seeing issues. He agreed there were issues and we then agreed to strip it up and start over. Matt Mertz Plumbing was key in a successful kitchen AND bath remodel.

Excellent. The estimator (Adam) gave us a detailed explanation of what work they would do. The entire sewer line had to be uncovered and replaced up to the main tap in. It involved our front lawn, retaining wall, sidewalk, bank, driveway and an air conditioner. The job started within two weeks of our accepting their estimate. The crew arrived when they said they would. The lead, Ron, was very nice and explained what he would be doing. The crew worked constantly. This was a complicated job. Ron did his best, and succeeded, in doing as little damage to our property as possible. At the end of each day in hot and humid weather Ron would talk with us before leaving. He answered every question we had each day. He would tell us when they would be arriving the next morning. They were always there when they said they would be. We obtained three estimates for this job. Mertz was in the middle. We highly recommend this company and workers.

While the cost may seem expensive, the amount and great quality of the work, made the cost more than reasonable. The work took about a week to complete. Matt and his crew were professional and very pleasant to deal with. Any questions I had were quickly answered. Each day, and at the completion of the work the crew would cleanup any dirt, dust, and debris. I would highly recommend Matt Mertz Plumbing to anyone requiring plumbing work.

The leak was hard to get to because it was behind the kitchen sink, in the wall, in the middle of wall studs, etc. Jim found that the reason for the leak is that the pipe was cut too short and the glue was not done correctly. Jim had to find a piece of pipe in his truck and used that to fix the leak. He was very friendly and knew exactly what to do to make the repair. He also had everything he needed in his truck when things didn't go as planned. He wrote a very detailed receipt for us explaining the leak and the repairs. The price was much lower than plumbing prices I have seen in past jobs with more local companies. I will always use Matt Mertz plumbing and I will hope they send Jim B!

In the end, it turned out to be a skunk problem, but Jim B was very nice and went the extra mile by checking our plumbing to ensure it was working properly and checked my yard, attic and furnace for critters and gave me helpful information as to what to do next. Even though he did not necessarily perform a service, I was grateful that he patiently double checked everything for me and even checked my yard and attic for signs of critters.
