Ryan was excellent. Task was complicated by garage wall and access to piping but he worked around that and was able to complete the job on time and stuck to the estimate. Highly recommend.

I ended up needed my garbage disposal replaced. I was charged $385 for a disposal that costs $109 at Lowe's. It's perfectly reasonable that they up-charge for labor, but 3.5x the cost of the part is a little ridiculous. Shame on me for not researching prices for disposals beforehand. I called and asked about the pricing, and the person taking my call said the labor was part of the charge. Okay, fine, but I thought that was still a bit high. She would talk with the owner and get back to me. It's a week and a half later and no call. Now I have the sneaking suspicion that I was brushed off, and that makes me feel like I'm being swindled. The plumber they sent out was professional and did a good job, but I never received a call indicating when he would arrive like they said they would. Bottom line: they needed to be more transparent with the pricing and call when they say they will.
Response from

"We are sorry that you were unhappy with our service. Our technician provided the price for the work to you before he started and asked for your approval to begin. I understand that you may be able to purchase a similar product at a big box store. Many times the ones sold at big box stores are not the same as what is provided by a professional contractor. If you buy one from Lowe’s, then you are responsible for any warranty issues, while if we provide it, we warranty the installation and product for a full 2 years. We did attempt to call your cell phone several times and received a message that said “the voicemail had not been set up”. We were unable to leave a message. We try to be as transparent as possible with our customers. As far as calling before he arrived, I apologize for that. We really do try to contact our customers prior to arrival....but if we didn’t, I’m sorry."

The toilet still runs infrequently, but is better than it was (it's a problematic toilet). The worker had to go back and forth to get parts and it took a long time and overall it's not an ideal fix, but as I said, it is better than it was.

When our regular plumber (whom we love!) was unavailable, we used Angie's List to select an alternative. I called Ben Franklin Plumbing for price and availability. Price was higher than our regular plumber. A plumber was "in our vicinity" - good news. After speaking to our neighbors, we found that the price was typical for franchise plumbing services. Rob called and confirmed his arrival time, He arrived promptly as predicted, confirmed price of $299.00 and collected electronic signature on his IPad. A brief survey of the problem, and he dragged his electric power snake machine (about the size of a gas powered pressure washer) into the basement and set it up. It took about 1/2 hour to get 35 feet into the drain when he felt that he hit the clog. Water on the floor began to disappear slowly. At Rob's suggestion, we turned taps on in two sinks while he extended the snake another 15 feet. Water started draining away quickly. Running the water while the snake was extracted and machine removed (about 20 minutes) reassured us that the clog was gone. Rob was very friendly and communicated well. He presented a well summarized description of the work performed on his tablet and showed the final price: $299.00, as promised. His tablet accepted credit cards, too! I'm sure we'd have saved $50 or $60 if George Roth & Sons Plumbing had been available - our bad timing. All in all I rate Ben Franklin high on everything but price.

Ben Franklin was terrific.  We knew we had a complex sewer lateral problem, involving multiple municipalities and two sewer authorities, and including a cottage that had never before been tested for compliance.
They were competitive on price, fast, and did a good cleanup.
We especially appreciated  of Ben Franklin's speed, because winter weather was imminent, and we were scheduled to close on our house in January.  This work was required to make that happen.
We highly recommend them.

The office called on Friday, October 17th to let me know that the technician had an appointment early in the morning and that he would call from the house to let me know when he would be finished and on his way.  On Monday, October 19th.  I received a call from the tech who told me that he was on his was and gave me an ETA.  He arrived ten minutes early.
Upon arriving, he asked what the problem was that we were experiencing and he immediately went to work to survey the situation.  Before doing so, he put on protective shoe coverings and proceeded to enter the home.  Checked all areas involved in the problem and asked my version of the problem.  He then offered possible solutions and proceeded to tell me what the charges would be for the house call and the opening of an access portal to inspect and look for the problem.
Upon agreeing, he went to work, covered all areas with drop cloths, opened an access port and thoroughly checked for the problem.  When he found the leak, he told me that it could be repaired with either a new copper line or a PEX system.  A new copper line would have meant opening the wall even more so we went with the PEX system.
From that point on the work went quickly and after a few tests of the new line we both agreed that the problem was solved.
The techs name is Jesse and he is one of the most professional, knowledgeable and courteous techs to do work in the home.
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was the third plumbing company that I called to look at this problem.  There was either disinterest in the job or lack of new technology solutions.  One plumber told me that the entire line would have to be replaced and to give him a call when I got the entire wall removed.
Needless to say, Benjamin Franklin was the most informative and knowledgeable of the three.
I would recommend them without hesitation for anyone needing a plumbing solution outside of a washer change.

Because I paid the $99 up front for this call, I agreed to let him rebuild the inside of the toilet for $200 more (total over $300).  It lasted for about a month and then the same problem started happening again.  I could have bought a new toilet for $100.  I'm still trying to solve this issue.  I won't call them again.

Response from

"Our repairs are warranted for 2 years. If the toilet is leaking again it would still be under warranty. We have not received a call from this customer and we're not aware that it had started leaking. Our technicians do offer a replacement toilet as an option when they are discussing the repair. Unfortunately a new "Quality" toilet is not $100 and of course there is a charge to install it. We would be more than happy to return and adjust or repair the toilet under the warranty if the customer calls to schedule."

He was quick and friendly but the part that retails for $169, they charged me $500 plus installation.
Response from

"This is no entirely true. The part wholesales for more than $200. The price to provide the part and install it was $518. The diagnostic charge to determine what was wrong with the heater was $79 The fact that our technician was able to make the repair relatively quickly was because he has many years experience making these types of repairs and we made sure that he had the necessary parts with him to do this repair. I'm sure that the customer could have found the part on line from some supplier and had it shipped to him in a couple of days and if he has the tools and ability could have replaced the part. We responded the same day and he had hot water that evening for his family. Hopefully there was some value in that."
