Someone from the company called me one Sunday morning after I just had browsed Home Advisor on companies cleaning blinds, but specifically requesting not to be contacted yet, however this person said next day they would be in the area and could stop by to give me a quote to clean 9 Hunter Douglas Silhouette blinds (They have fabric!). He came at the agreed time and immediately told me their company is the only one in the area that can clean this type of blinds. When asked about a quote, he said the company charges the equivalent of 1/3 of the current cost of the blinds! These are 20-year-old blinds in perfect shape. I said that that was ridiculous, I just want them to take the blinds down, clean them and put them back. This has nothing to do with the current value of the blinds. He went to his car and came back after saying he went to check on the price of the blinds and came with the ridiculous cost of $1,300 plus $130 to dismount them plus another small cost for something else (quote was not in writing). He knew I was not going to accept, so then he said was going to give me a huge 50% discount, so now we were to about $670, still over expensive and I should have said no, but he did some of that old hard sell pressure. He finally said he would do it for $600 if I would pay him cash. Unfortunately, I fall for the pressure and said yes. Then, while working on taking the blinds off the mounts, he gave me all these disclaimers about why some blinds can not get cleaned or could be damaged, etc. I had one in particular that had an old coffee stain and I agree that this one might be difficult to disappear completely. I asked about putting them back after cleaned, to what he said he had spear parts in case one of the plastic mounting brackets would break. So, he took the blinds and left saying he would be back by Thursday. I then realized he did not give me a receipt for the blinds but trusted him as I had all the info from Home Advisor. Now, to be totally fair he came back as promised by Thursday and the Blinds where clean, even the one with the tough coffee stain. There were a couple we think they could have done a better job taking out some of the stuff that gets stuck in between the fabric, but overall it was a good job. He then went into putting them back into the brackets one room at a time. In one of the rooms, one bracket broke. I mentioned it to him and he said it was because from start whoever installed this one did it incorrectly, but I thought he would just fix it, but he said no, he did not have the part (!?) and basically said I had to do it myself, so that blind now looks twisted. While we really needed the get this blinds cleaned and the job was done right, it was not an enjoyable experience. This guy was harsh and difficult to talk with and feel comfortable about asking questions about the job. When he finished I paid him, he diligently counted the money and said goodbye, not before I asked about getting my invoice... He said he was going to email it back to me. I made sure he would get my info right and said I need it. I did not receive anything through the email and call the company a few days back to inquire about my invoice, they said they would send right away. I just got something in the regular mail. It is a plain receipt with no info about the company, the person that did the job, has no address, no telephone, nada! Just $600 for cleaning the blinds and a thank you. Overall my rate is: Overly expensive, too much of a hard sell, poor interaction with client (very abrasive throughout the deal). I recommend looking for other options even if they claim they are the only ones to do this kind of work in the area.
