We were very pleased with the results of our Ikea based kitchen renovation. John Mitchell did a great job, cleaning up after each day's work. Everything was on schedule, work was excellent and his advice during the process was solid.

First let me say that we were away on vacation while John did the work. THAT"S how much we trust him. We came home to a kitchen cleaner than we left it( and it was clean!) There was only one surprise-  how great the kitchen looked!

John did an outstanding job. He was prompt in responding to my request and worked with me on the terms of the contract to be beneficial and fair to both of us. He made recommendations on the type of sink to purchase along with the new garbage disposal. As I travel with my job, he did the work and would check in with me with questions and recommendations. He worked with me around my schedule. He cleaned-up after his work each day and has checked in with me to see if any of the cabinet doors need adjusting. Everying has worked well and no adjustments have been necessary.

John is the person I would recommend for any Ikea cabinet installation. I have been very pleased!

John was always on time.  He did a very good job, and could do his job blindfolded.  He knew everything about the IKEA kitchen installation.  He was prompt and very pleasant to deal with.  He handled any problems that arised very professionally and calmly.  I would recommend him to anyone else looking for an IKEA or other renovation.

A total kitchen renovation is never easy, but our experience with Mitchell Renovations made it the best it could possibly be.  We had decided on an IKEA kitchen and John Mitchell came highly recommended.  He responded promptly with an estimate, general guidelines and timetable and his price was right in line with our budget.    We went into it already knowing exactly what we wanted to do which made it easier for everyone.  We set up a date to start and promptly at 8am that day, he showed up.
Everyone told us that the 6 weeks we were promised was a pipe dream; 3-6 months was the general consensus and the horror stories we heard were awful.  Ha!  6 weeks to the day, we had a beautiful kitchen and NO nightmares to report.  Every morning, either John and Dag, his assistant,  or one of his subs (flooring, electical or plumbing, all were great guys!) showed up promptly at 8am, did excellent work and most importantly, cleaned up so beautifully, you would have doubted anyone had been there except that you saw the progress.  We really liked and trusted all of the guys and would use all of them in a heartbeat; John only works with the best!
Through all of this, we basically lived in the basement, cooked there or in the backyard and did dishes in our second floor bathroom.  Not fun at all and completely unavoidable, but John made it not so bad because everything went so smoothly.  He's a funny, quirky guy with good ideas and lots of experience.  He was very reassuring through the IKEA delivery messups and everything ended up working out great.  He's been back to the house to readjust drawers as they settle and to cut extra shelves for a cabinet, all with no extra charge.  There is nobody else we would have install an IKEA kitchen!
Be aware that you MUST:
Either spend an entire day at IKEA scrupulously laying out your kitchen with exact measurements OR getting John's space planner to do it for you (very reasonably priced if you can't do it yourself).  Be prepared for the IKEA computer to sell you stuff you won't need in the end (but can return for 100% credit).  Be prepared for IKEA to mess up the delivery somehow
Be prepared to make multiple trips to IKEA to trade/return/purchase things you didn't know you needed.  John will coach you through this, but don't make him go sit at IKEA; his time is money.   Better you do it in the evenings or on the weekend.
Realize that you will have a ton of stuff to return at the end which gives you a big credit on your credit card.  Allow some leeway for this and that there's no way around it.  Order your tile, flooring or other materials far enough in advance so that you will have them when John needs them.  He doesn't scour the internet for deals; if he buys stuff for you, there'll be a mark up which is totally normal since he's putting in his time.  Empty EVERYTHING out of the space.  We had a small backyard where John set up his cutting area and our entire first floor is one big open space so that served as a place for materials.  Everything we owned was packed up and went into storage.  This is imperative.
We are completely happy with our new kitchen and new flooring in our first floor.  It was definitely the best money we've ever spent and has added tremendously to both our quality of life and value of our house.  Thank you so much, John Mitchell!

John offered numerous suggestions and great ideas to help improve the layout. His knowledge of Ikea hardware, construction and overall techniques was extremely valuable. His workmanship and professionalism is unrivaled. I am electrical contractor and begged him to come and run my company. Not only was he extremely organized, he protected our new tile floor, our existing wood floors, guided other workers when they needed help, cleaned up meticulously every day and lined all his tools up at the end of the day. What a pleasure to work with him. Very fair with his estimate and any extra work I asked for him to do. Absolutely would recommend him to everyone!

John and his team were the utmost professionals-timely, neat, respectful and obviously experts at there trades! My family and I were thrilled to find John's services via Angie's list after we had purchased a full IKEA kitchen. The demo of our existing kitchen had been just about completed and some structural work (reconfiguration of some walls and new windows) done when our previous contractor expressed (with our appreciation) that he did not think he was the right person to install IKEA cabinetry as he had little to no experience with it - imagine our surprise to learn our half demolished kitchen may sit that way for quite some time. We were lucky to find John and he quickly came to our rescue - after explaining our circumstances, he was to our home within days to assess the job and made time in his busy schedule to complete our project within 2 weeks of first meeting us...all this during the busy holiday season of December!
John and his family experienced a sudden and devastating loss while our project was ongoing when their home was destroyed due to a fire started in a structure nearby to their home. Despite having his own very serious issues to deal with, he remained in prompt contact and finished our job with little to no delay.
Our kitchen is beautiful and we enjoy it every day. It had a been a dream of ours for quite some time to do a full kitchen remodel - after completing this project with John, we only hope we will have other projects that require his services in the future- the work that he and his team completed is  just spectacular!

I shall forever be grateful for Angie's List because through it I found John Mitchell of Mitchell's Renovations. I had been seeking a contractor who "did it all", but especially  had experience in installing IKEA kitchens. I was delighted to discover that John, in spite of being a young man, had installed thousands of IKEA kitchens, having been the "Go To" contractor for IKEA for years. When I visited the South Phila IKEA store, he was referred to with such respect, I knew that I was in expert hands.
John, with his team, has just completed my beautiful DREAM KITCHEN. I couldn't be more pleased with his knowledge, professionalism, integrity and thoughtfulness.All of this is accompanied with a delightful sense of humor.
During my project, John and his family were survivors of a devastating fire that destroyed the garage where the Mummers costuming was stored. John's beautiful designer home, next door, was gutted, but John weathered the storm and returned to give me his best!
My job was an especially difficult one, with my home having been built in the 1900s with uneven walls and floors .John, working with his electrician  and plumber,  met every challenge with skill and resolved each problem.
I plan to continue upgrades in my home. Without a doubt, Mitchell's Renovations is my #1 choice.

It was excellent. He was very professional and did everything in a timely manner. He was clean and neat and did a super job. I would recommend him to anyone. We used him because he was an Ikea installer and the personnel at Ikea said great things about him and even said when they were ready for their kitchen remodel they would use him.

John and his team were a pleasure to work with. John's expertise was immediately apparent during our initial consultation when he asked all the right questions and really made sure we had thought through all the important decisions. He continued to provide useful guidance on design decisions throughout our renovation and helped us transform our antiquated row home kitchen into modern kitchen that we love.
John communicates well, arrives on time, works efficiently, and is remarkably organized and tidy (something my wife and I greatly appreciated). The project went according to schedule and John could always be reached when we had a question. He demonstrated excellent follow through and went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied with his work. We were so happy with John's work that we hired him and his team to do some additional drywall and electrical work in our living room. I would not hesitate to recommend Mitchell Renovations to anyone.

John responded quickly and did a great job. He was neat, professional,
and I especially appreciated that he asked me questions to solicit my
opinion as opposed to assuming how I would want to proceed. For example,
the exhaust system of the previous microwave has a vent outside which
is now inhabited by a bird nest. I did not want to disturb them. John
didn't make me feel like a weirdo for this and simply offered alternatives. He was pleasant and worked quickly. I
would definitely use him again.

John is very knowledgable about construction and does very good quality work.  He is a pleasure to deal with.

I recently hired John Mitchell to completely renovate my kitchen using Ikea cabinetry and plans.  Having gone through three disastrous kitchen planning contractor consultations early in the process, I was extremely frustrated and cautious when I contacted Mr. Mitchell. From our first conversation through to my kitchen's completion, I have been exceedingly pleased with Mitchell Renovations. 
John's technical skills and craftsmanship are second to none.  Just as importantly however, his ongoing advice regarding every aspect of the project has been vital - from appliance and materials suggestions to design ideas.  His opinions and creative ideas are sound and well-reasoned.  He demands a high level of quality and reliability not only from himself but from everyone associated with the project.  It is evident that he takes great pride in his work and every aspect of my renovation was done with care and precision.  
My project was completed exactly as stated in our contract - within the time frame and exactly on budget.  John was clearly aware and respectful of my time constraints and budgetary concerns and worked hard to meet each and every one.  Every subcontractor he brought to the project was trustworthy and professional - from Bill the electrician, to Mike the plumber and Dag his assistant.  They were all quite respectful of my house, my pets and the gardens; their work area was always in pristine order and vacuumed daily.  The crew was also considerate of my neighbors and worked with no disruption of street parking and little noise.
John is a fine project manager who oversaw every aspect and detail of the project.  He communicated daily regarding next steps and expectations - there were never any unwelcome surprises.  John was always available to me by email or cell and tirelessly answered my myriad of questions with a smile.  
Throughout the project, I was impressed with John's commitment to delivering a top quality job, rather than maximizing his profit margin.  When situations arose where extra work needed to be done to resolve hidden issues, John either (if it was relatively minor) took care of it without charging me extra or (if it was more extensive) involved me in an informed decision making process that culminated in a fair change to the contract.  
I am very pleased with my beautiful modern kitchen and I am extremely impressed with John's work. In a industry where quality workmanship and excellent customer service are unfortunately all too rare, John is clearly an exception. I can recommend him without reservation.

I was excited to see all the great reviews for Mitchell Renovations, but unfortunately they never returned my phone calls or emails.  Really lousy service, especially if they are trying to get new business.  Maybe they are too busy to respond to emails or phone calls

I really cannot say enough about John and Mitchell Renovations.  When I first emailed him about doing our kitchen install, he was on vacation.  He wrote back to let me know when he would be available to come in and give me an estimate - in the meantime, he was kind enough to give me a "ballpark" estimate based on the scope of the job.  When he got back to work, he contacted me promptly to confirm the site visit appointment.  He was very detail oriented and made a lot of suggestions (with respect to both construction and aesthetic matters) which I appreciated.  He provided a detailed quote, we set the appointment, and he was there right on time.
My first impression at the end of Day One was that in addition to being detail oriented, John is also very neat.  Day after day, this impression was reinforced.  We weren't living in the house while he was working on it, but he worked as if we were.  He took care to protect our newly-refinished floors,  he kept his work area meticulous, and he vacuumed up every night before leaving.  He consulted with us where appropriate, and there were no surprises.
Actually, there were a few surprises - good ones!  Our storm door had been improperly installed by an unnamed big-box store, and despite numerous attempts by the previous owner to fix the problem, he actually managed to fix it, and the door now opens and closes freely.   We also had some issues regarding the installation of our new appliances, which he generously corrected.
John is professional, reliable, and skilled.  Our kitchen looks fabulous.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend John, or to hire again if needed.

Working with John Mitchell was one of the easiest and most pleasant renovation experiences. John was recommended to us by Ikea, and we decided to use his services based on recommendations. John and his team are extremely professional, punctual, knowledgeable, clean, and even fun to be around with. They came on time every day, and finished everything according to schedule. Their input and their suggestions along the way were crucial in the perfect final result. Bill the electrician, as well as Mike the plumber, are fantastic--their work was impressive. Months after the kitchen reno was completed, the pipe under the kitchen started leaking; it turned out to be defective. I called John, he responded immediately, and Mike the plumber was here the next morning, replaced the whole thing. After hearing so many horror stories about kitchen remodels. we feel so lucky ours went so smoothly. This is all thanks to John and his great team.

The most fun and  joy you could experiece from a renovation.

John worked precisely to a schedule and fee.  He was excellent. He was courteous, meticulous and extremely knowledgeable about IKEA kitchens, in particular.

.After researching contractors we decided on Mitchell Renovations after reading all the great reviews on Angie's List and also John came highly recommended from IKEA. We met John and liked him and felt great about our decision. It was the only one and right one. All the good reviews are all true to the letter. We have a fabulous kitchen and everyone that comes to our home isi very impressed with the workmanship. The team of workers were beyond great. They came on time and the the clean up each day was amazing. We were comfortable with all the workers who were polite and trustworthy. Great piece of mind. Bill the electrician had a large amount of work and is the best electrician we have ever had. You will hear stories from people about going through a big remodel like we had but ours was a smooth process with no bad stories.. You will be happy and lucky if you can have Mitchell Renovations do work for you. As the job progressed John made some suggestions which really worked out nicely. He takes a lot of pride in his work and wants everything just right. So I encourage you to get estimates but if you meet John and read all the reviews you don't have to look far to find the best. If you are doing IKEA John has the most experience making it fabulous.We feel that we received great value for the amount of work we had done and would only call John for any other home projects.

As a new homeowner, finding a contractor to remodel my kitchen was an undertaking itself.  I had no idea where to start?I wasn?t an Angie?s List member at the time.  However, my local IKEA recommended him.  After reviewing his web site and discovering he?s installed over 3,000 IKEA installations and seeing some gorgeous ?before? and ?after? pictures of his past work I was sold on using his services.  The BEST decision I made!
 
One of his associates came to my home at a time convenient for me to take the measurements and she even gave me some design ideas I hadn?t thought about.  When John reviewed the measurements and my plan for how I wanted to configure the kitchen, he made some recommendations that would allow for more functionality.  I am SO glad I went with his recommendations because he took into consideration things I hadn?t thought about such as the placement of electrical outlets according to code.  John put together a detailed estimate outlining the scope of work and cost.  He worked directly with the township to secure the appropriate permits and schedule inspections.  He coordinated logistics of the entire project so I didn?t have to worry about a thing.  On the first day and every day of the job, John and his team showed up on time and completed the entire project on schedule.  His entire team was friendly, professional, and helpful in answering any questions.   In fact, his electrician went above and beyond the call of duty in responding to an electrical issue.  He came back to my home after getting into town from a road trip and only getting a few hours of sleep to resolve the issue!   John was always responsive and returned phone calls within 24 hours.
 
This was my first experience living in a construction zone but I have to say that it was THE cleanest construction zone I?ve ever seen!  My co-workers told me of their experiences with dirty and dusty homes because of remodeling projects.  However, John took care to protect other areas of the home.  He left everything in pristine condition and I?m so happy with the results.  My friends all rave about my new kitchen.  John and his team did a fabulous job all with flawless execution!

So I had this brilliant idea with remodeling our kitchen.  I had put together countless IKEA book shelves, dressers, and tables before - so how hard could it be to put together cabinets, right?  Then we got a delivery of 128 separate cartons.  It was either a.) get help, or b.) expect this project to be completed by October.... of 2014.

IKEA suggested one of two licensed contractors to assist with our project, and I could not have been more pleased with having selected Mitchell Renovations.  Jon met with me at the house to review my "plan".  He presented several suggestions, and painted a picture of expectations over the next couple of weeks.  It was eye opening, and extremely helpful with gaining some perspective (which I desperately needed).

We gave Mitchell Renovations a blank slate.  All cabinets, counters, and appliances were removed from the kitchen, and a new floor was laid before they arrived the first day.  It literally took an hour of the first day to be thanking God for having the foresight to know that I would have NEVER been able to get this project completed correctly (or in a timely fashion).  Jon met every time line, and the end result exceeded my own expectations (changing some of my considerations based on his recommendations were challenging, but I was so grateful to have trusted his judgement).

I would genuinely recommend the services, support, and finished product of Mitchell Renovations, and every single person who has since come into our kitchen would do the same.  If you are going to invest in a new kitchen, why chance screwing it up yourself??  Thanks Jon.

The experience was great. John was very responsive and totally up front about costs. He volunteered very helpful information that was valuable and ultimately saved us money. Please note that they only install IKEA products--unless things have changed. The quality was excellent. The people that actually did the work were skilled, friendly, prompt, cleaned up after themselves. One of the appliances has since had to be removed for repair. The person removing the appliance was very impressed with the quality of the previous job. I only wish they did work with products other than those at IKEA. We would definitely use them again.
