McFarland Tree & Landscaping Services

Nothing was done because I had no reply from landscaping service. Note: I answered "no" only becuase there was no other option then  yes or no. I would have place N/A had that been an option since I received no reply to my request via email.

The boss, Peter McFarland came first. He was on time, friendly and professional. With his help, I decided what I wanted done immediately and what I wanted to defer for the future. We scheduled an appointment and two of his workers showed up on schedule. They were also professional, friendly and punctual. I'd like to have a lower price for their services, but I will stick with them for future needs because I believe they are totally reliable.

Co. previously removed fallen tree from the yard.  We  wanted to plant a new tree for the shade.  After 30 years of benign neglect the back yard was more weed then grass and we opted to have the old in both the front and back ripped out and sod laid.  Job was estimated that the cost would be between 6 - 7000.00 & take 2 1/2 days & was spot on.  Because of prior excellent work we did not get other estimates so work might have been cheaper with another company but the finished work is beautiful.  They showed up when they said they would start & finished within the estimated time.  And the new yard looks beautiful.   After spending the money and the terrific job they did they will be doing the lawn maintenance and mowing .  Recommend them highly.  Worth every penny 

AWESOME! They were prompt. I gave him a deposit of 1000 and they completed the work before I paid the balance. I enjoyed working with them.

We used them before and we were that satisfied with their service that we are actually using them again. He is a very nice and efficient guy. They are excellent. They are not the cheapest but it's okay with us. Mr. McFarland knows what he is doing and cuts through the chase. It was very professional and very efficient. We will probably have him maintain the weeding and seeding of the grass.

They hauled everything away, and it was a lot of work. It was the first time I had used them. I would use them again.

Mr. McFarland responded promptly to our call and set up (and kept) the appointment time and date for the estimate. (Other contacts made vague promises about when they would arrive). He wasn't rushed and answered all my questions. The estimate was the lowest received for the removal. The workers arrived at the appointment time (8 am) and efficiently completed the job before noon. We are completely satisfied with their service and would use them again.

I got three quotes and ended up using McFarland, who had trimmed my tree several years ago.  His bid came in about the middle, though some of his quotes were below the others. 
As in the prior interaction, Peter McFarland responded to a request for quotation quickly and arrived on time.  I am quite attached to my old tree, which was apparently struck by lightning and then further damaged by the prolonged drought (he explained all of this to me).  He gave me a range of options (he was the only arborist who provided a range of options rather than narrowing it to cutting off the branch).  Since the branch was cracked nearly in half and would do real damage if a wind caught it, Peter kindly had his men come the morning after I called him to go ahead with the job. Two men came and finished the whole thing, like artists, in a few hours.  They were  very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable.  They also left the yard in better shape than they'd found it!

I got several estimates before I went with these guys. Perhaps the biggest recommendation I can give is that these guys did NOT offer the lowest price. In fact, they were almost four times the price of one estimate I received. And yet, I went with them. Not because I'm an heiress (sadly) or like to throw money around. But because I felt comfortable that they knew what they were doing and that I would be pleased with the results. I was right. It was a job well done -- from the man who came to give me the estimate to the amazing foreman on the job (I have never seen someone take down a tree so easily or quickly.) That said, I am still curious why their estimate was so much higher than others. And while I chose to go with them, I would think that the price gap would cost them business in the future.

His company arrived and pruned our tree in less than an hour.  They cleaned up after themselves as well.  A second crew came out separately a few days later to inject the tree with nutrients without us having to follow up.

I phoned Mc Farland Tree and Landscaping to arrange to get an estimate for cutting down two trees on my property.  The woman to whom I spoke asked for my zip code, which I gave her.  She asked me to hold for a moment, came back to me quickly, and told me that they did not service my area.  I asked where in Philadelphia they were located, and she told me they were in Germantown.  I am in East Oak Lane, which is only about a 15 minute drive from Germantown.  I was surprised, to say the least, but there is no arguing with a company's policies.  Certainly, they are free to limit the services they provide as they wish.  However, Angie's List customers should be made aware that this company offers extremely limited services to Philadelphia residents.

Everything went excellent. I was lucky enough to get the same guy. He was able to climb up the tree and was able to understand the outside form of the tree. He was able to climb up the tree, limb by limb. The guy who came pruned my tree and is a real artist.

Initial difficulty with McFarland's website (couldn't send message through "contact us") but I received a very courteous telephone response to my email within a few days.  An appointment with Sean was set up within 2 days.  Sean arrived on time and we discussed all the the work that needed doing.  He was professional and courteous and supplied me with an estimate on the spot.  The actual work was performed 3 days later and the yard looks great! 

The only complaint I have is that the poison ivy in the back yard was not taken care of on the day the work was done.  Upon receipt of the invoice, I called Sean and explained that the poison ivy was still there.  Apparently the crew had run out of (kill) spray on the day they performed the work.  But Sean made sure someone came back to spray to kill the poison ivy, so the job is now completed to our satisfaction.

Great! If I had more of a yard I would definitely use them again. They were fast, on time and provided great customer service and a good price.

The whole procedure was very friendly, but extremely professional.  The sales guy was great, listened to my requests and then made sure that they were all fulfilled.  He returned my calls promptly when I had a question.  He came by and put a tree gator on it, and just generally monitored the job, often without even bothering me inside.  It was a really professional performance!

We have a contract with them and so they just come out and do the fertilization. They don't even knock on the door, they just send a note saying they are coming and we get a bill once they are done. If we feel like we need some trimming or they think that some trimming needs to be done then we contact each other. Our trees are very happy so whatever they are doing, they are doing right. They do quality work and they do what they say they are going to do. The workers were very polite and nice, they cleaned up after themselves. I don't see them too often though. I would recommend them.

We have been using them for a long time. They treated a tree that we thought had to be cut down and it is alive seven years later. They are very good.

My initial concern with getting the tree pruned was finding an experienced company and having it done properly! Upon hiring McFarland tree and landscape services my experience was a positive one. Dean was professional and extremely knowledgeable. The service was perfomed the next day and the tree looks absolutely beautiful! They did a wonderful job, thank you Dean!

I spent $750 on that service. They were knowledgeable about the plants and what to do with them. They had excellent clean up and they were very professional. I would probably use them again this year.

They were timely and efficient. The whole thing was good but I didn't end up using them because their quote was higher than another company.

They are fine. I rate them highly. They just do a really good job. They are very professional and fast. I think the price was a little bit high, but considering what a good job they did, I didn't mind paying them. I would use them again in the future.

Today, as always, they arrived as scheduled, worked quickly and completed all tasks to specification. Staff are always polite and professional with top care given to protect the rest of the property despite the large equipment and heavy work. My only criticism of McFarland beyond the cost is that they can't seem to keep their arborists who also serve as salespeople. In the 5-6 years I have worked with them, I usually have a new contact each year. While the cost seems to be balanced by knowledge and expertise, I wonder why they can't keep their talent. They do seem to keep good notes on my property, as each new person is fully versed when we connect, so I don't have to start explaining the history and my objectives all over again. Bottom-line, if you just need a tree removed, some dead-wooding done, etc., you can find a better deal. If you need a specialist, so far, they remain the best I have found. I comparison shop/bid the work every other year.

My oak tree is doing well unlike others in the area. I am happy with the outcome. Our acorn harvest is booming and there is a healthy crop of leaves overhead. Care is needed when walking underneath the tree as those little acorns gain momentum when they fall 60+ feet or so. Small furry creatures also enjoy the acorns which, with a bit of effort, can develop into a self manufactured mulch. A real live person always answers the phone and their people are consistenly pleasant, knowledgible and courteous.
