Initially, I called on a Tuesday and set up an appointment for that Friday afternoon. John was very flexible about the appointment time. The appointment was set at 12:00 noon, however on Friday morning at 10:30 John called to let me know he was running 30 minutes late and would arrive at 12:30 instead. This allowed me to stay at work an extra 30 minutes instead of waiting at home and was much appreciated. After inspecting the roof for 15 minutes he gave me his assessment verbally and gave me a ballpark figure for the needed repairs. The following day I received a detailed estimate by email with an exact figure and a list of the needed repairs. I emailed back asking for John to complete the repairs and he performed them on the following Wednesday. Our roofs leaks have been resolved and I am quite happy with our experience overall.
Description of Work: We were experiencing roof leaks in two places. John repaired the sources of both leaks including replacing the soil pipe boot and sealing the dividing juncture between our house and the neighbor's house (our house is a twin). He also sealed the flashing on our two chimneys to prevent potential leaks.

John came out examined the leak, and told me I would need a plumber to remove a pipe on the roof that concealed the leak. The pipe had to be removed so he could have access to the problem area. I found a plumber willing to do the work, and called John to get an estimate and schedule the work. He said he would e-mail an estimate. I never heard from him. If he wasn't interested in doing the job he should have declined to do it from the beginning .
Description of Work: Based on the the rating this roofer received and the positive comments made by consumers, I phoned this roofer, and asked if he could repair a serious leak.

Response from John Roccia's Family Roofing Co
There seems to be a total misunderstanding regarding this matter. In fact an email proposal was sent to this member on Sunday Aug. 26 @5:36 pm, had this member called me saying she did not receive the proposal I would have rectified the matter. Member fails to mention that every other roofer told her she needed a complete new roof and new skylight. Member also paid a home inspector who's remedy was to deflect the water using a piece of tin. I on the other hand was honest and fair with the member telling her exactly what need to be done. I did not try to take advantage or misled her.

John came by to give us an estimate on fixing a leak in our roof that had survived two previous roof repairs by other roofers. He spotted the problem right away, made a quick repair, and charged us a price that was more than fare. John was friendly, professional, and honest. A great experience. Call John first, that's the lesson learned.

Mr. Roccia was very pleasant and professional. He gave us a detailed estimate and a rough idea of when he could do the work. He did not cash our deposit check until he had completed the work, which he did in a timely manner.

I called John for an evaluation on a Saturday and he was out within a couple days to look at the problem. On the day of the appointment, he arrived right on time and quickly identified the problem. It turned out to be a simple fix of some additional caulking that was needed and gave me the option of fixing it myself or having him complete the job. I chose to fix it myself and he showed me exactly what needed to be done and the best type of caulk to use. He even gave me some leftover caulk he had so I didn't have to run to the store and buy it. I fixed the problem later that day. Since then, we have had plenty of rain and we have seen no signs of a leak. I would definitely use John again as he is one of the most trustworthy contractors I've met.
Description of Work: I had been experiencing a small leak in my roof for about a year now and tried multiple times to fix, what I thought was the problem, myself. About a year ago, I also asked another roofing company the same question and received in inaccurate diagnosis of the problem not to mention approximately a $100 charge to fix the problem.

After contacting John and getting his quick response, he examined the property and gave us a thorough estimate. He was prompt in starting the job and communicated progress of the work in a timely manner. His employees were courteous. We asked him to document the job progress with pictures, and after completion of the work, he sent us hard copy pictures along with his warranty. We would not hesitate to recommend him and in fact, would value any referrals of other trades he may offer in the future.

I was very happy with Roccia Family Roofing Company. They do excellent work at a very reasonable cost.
Description of Work: I had a leak in the bathroom of my home. I did not know any local roofers, so I consulted Angie's List. I called a highly rated roofer on your list and I found John Roccia Roofing Company. I called Mr. Roccia, and he came to my home the same day, and he found the cause of the leak, made a temporary repair, and completed the entire job within the week. He did the work at a very reasonable cost, and was truly a gentleman. I would recommend Mr. Roccia to anyone who needs any type of roofing repair. Thank you, Angie's List.

Naturally, spring weather coupled with his workload backup delayed his arrival. But he called twice to inform me of the delays. We told him to come by when he was ready. He called on June 6th and said he would be there at 7am on the 7th. He arrived with his crew on time and with a neat & tidy truck [a big deal with me]. They speedily set up their ladders, equipment & supplies and went right to work. They declined my offer of coffee and water 'cause they had their own. John's crew performed the work in a timely manner [5 hours or so] with no interruptions. When finished they would not leave until his crew made me test that our skylight would open and close without interfering with the sealant. Later, I inspected the work myself and was pleased with the workmanship. We are awaiting his invoice for the rest of the payment and his warranty for the work.
Description of Work: John did a temporary fix of a persistent leak problem in January, 2011. It was a terrible, cold and rainy day and John listened to my entreaties as we had done some business before. A few hours later, while it was still raining--hard, John climbed up and perched on a wood railing and performed a miraculous "fix" that worked [ask him about his sealants]. He then submitted two proposals, with a 10% Angie's discount included, that would address the issue. We dawdled. When we finally contacted him 3 months later, he told us the discount still held. We accepted the full roofing proposal and waited for scheduling. His proposal called for a new, modified bitumen roofing system; a 4" copper drain box, an aluminum "L-shaped" metal bar on outside roof line [where roof edge & wall join] and sealants for all joins and seams for $3,475.

For almost a decade, a persistent leak had gradually deteriorated the drywall in my back, first floor room. During thunderstorms, as much as a gallon of water or more would accumulate in 7 large pots I had to leave in place, just in case. Plumbers, stucco-ers, and roofers had been unable to find its source. They would claim to have fixed the problem, and demonstrate with a hose on the roof/windows/etc. that produced no wetness. Later, a light rain, and the dripping resumed. I had about given up. (Mine is a row house; with no solution, there was the suggestion it was coming through the wall from my neighbor.) I found John Roccia on Angies List, and gave him a call. At first, he assessed the problem as on the lower roof, caused by a faulty drain, and gave me an estimate, warning me that there would be a lag time of 45 days. Subsequently, another contractor suggested opening the ceiling and removing old insulation so as to locate the exact source of the leak. A wet spot was found, and he did some repairs, and used a hose on the roof to test the repair, and no water came in. Later that evening, during a light rain, suddenly the water reappeared, in the same place. I reconnected with Roccia, explained what had been done, and asked him to come out again and have a second look. He came a few days later, I showed him the open ceiling; he looked, got on the roof with a hose, and told me to go inside and see if any water came down. It gushed! 30 seconds of inspection, and he had found the source of the leak, where almost a dozen others had failed. Despite his busy schedule, he agreed to fix the problem within days, and did so. Based on this experience, I was more anxious than ever to have him examine and do whatever was necessary on the roof. During the earlier visit, he spotted several problems (water was pooling; the new flashing needed fixing). He again cited the 45 day delay. Because lots of other work was awaiting the finishing of the roof, I told him I wanted him to do it, but couldn't wait that long. He graciously rearranged his schedule, and completed the work within two weeks. I have had no problems since. What also impressed me was his ability to diagnose problems and come up with inexpensive solutions (even when that meant his forgoing remunerative work.) When I asked if the lower roof and drain still needed repair, he said not to bother, it looked fine. When I wondered why water was pooling on the back patio, and had found the pipe draining in the back under the brick patio had been completely obstructed by tree roots, I asked Roccia what he would recommend (another had recommended taking up the bricks, replacing the pipe, and restoring the patio, for a hefty sum). He said that if it were his house, he would just reroute the water to the main drain in the back (thus saving a lot of money, and achieving the same end). When he came, he did the repair he suggested (quite inexpensively), thus solving the problem and saving me money. He also found the paint used for the house trim in back, and painted his repair work so it fit right in. When I read the raves he rec'd on Angies List, I understood why he was so busy, but was still skeptical that anyone could be that good. I'm a convert. He was always a gentleman, polite and responsive, accommodated scheduling to my needs, and was willing to fix the urgent immediately. He found quickly and fixed quickly a leak that had vexed me for almost a decade. When asked for advice, he gave it, coming up with considerably less expensive solutions than others had urged. He basically treated my house (and roof problems) as though they were his, and did what he would have done on his own house. Expert, reliable, trustworthy, accommodating, reasonably priced--It can't get much better than that.
Description of Work: Found source of persistent leak, fixed; built up slump in roof so water runs to drain; corrected and redid flashing over barge boards; coated roof with reflective metallic paint; fixed drain pipe; painted new work to match color of house trim (Wedgwood blue).

We are currently selling our home, and the inspection report claimed that the roof was in failed condition and needed complete replacement. We wanted a second opinion and a realistic estimate of what repairs would cost, so we called John Roccia's. I spoke with John himself, who was able to come over the next day, give me a rundown of what was needed - he didn't feel that a replacement was warranted at this time. He then drafted a proposal and emailed it to me by the next day, with all repairs and estimated costs, including a 5 year warranty. The costs were significantly lower than stated in the inspection report. these guys are an honest, family-run business. i would totally use them for any roofing issues without hesitation!

I had a leak in my living room on a Sunday (of course.) I called John Roccia and left him a message. He called back about an hour later and said he could come out the next afternoon. He took a look and said the roof itself was fine, the flashing pulled away from the chimney. He reattached it. I felt so much better knowing that he was honest that it was only a small fix. He said the roof looked good, not to worry. Two months later, everything is still fine. I would absolutely recommend him and hire him again.

We would definitely consider John for any future roofings needs.
Description of Work: We called John last minute to come out and take a look at our roof. He came out the next morning, which was a Saturday, and evaluated our needs. Based on our expedited timeline and his current contracts, he determined that he would not be able to do the work as quickly as we needed it. Still, knowing that he wouldn't get the business, he stayed and continued to give us some great advice and opinions on how we should go about correcting our roof issues.

We initially met Mr. Roccia in November when he came out to give us an estimate on having our roof replaced. John is very personable and a honest roofer. We had previously received other estimates where roofers wanted to replace installed siding and fascia that was not that old in conjunction with the implementation of a roof ridge vent. John understood our concerns and did some research and he came up with a plan to address our needs. While we signed a contract with John in November, it was agreed that John would not start the work until the spring when the weather broke. In the meantime to get us through the winter, John agreed to patch a problem area on the roof and he assured us that he would take care of any emergencies that came up over the winter and he was true to his word. During one of the winter ice storms we had ice build up and water coming in over a patio door. We called John and he came out the next day and installed a roof heater eliminating the problem. When the weather started to get nicer in late March, John contacted us to let us know that he would be able to begin the job within a few weeks. As promised the work started and was completed in a timely manner. The work crew showed up on time every day and they left the premises very clean. Would definitely recommend Roccia roofing, as John is truly a honest and reliable roofer!

Great experience. Called John in dead of winter (Feb) and he responded and came out on the most decent day and inspected the job. He gave me a timely quote and said due to the type of work it would be best to hold off until the temperatures were more reasonable to work with the materials. I paid the deposit and stayed in touch, he came out as promised and completed the work on time and on cost. The roof no longer leaks and looks a lot better. Due to some interior demo, other contractors punched a hole through the wall right at gutter level. I asked John to leave that small section off, he told me to call when the hole was fixed and he would come out and rehang the gutter. I have not called him as the stucco is not fixed, but i'm sure he will respond when I do call.

Horrible. He arrived two hours earlier than the time he specified. He did not call ahead to let me know that he would be coming early. He examine the work and left me his card and some speech about being certified by the roofing manufacturer, etc. Two days later I received an e-mail saying that he was refusing to take the job. He was too busy and could not handle the work. He didn't offer any other explanation. When I told him I was disappointed that he did not tell me that the day he was here and I was going to file a report on Angie's List to that effect, he then tried to call me and wanted to explain why he did not tell me when he came that he could not do the work. This is not the first time he has pulled this trick. Earlier this winter I called him about some damage to my roof. A limb had come through my roof and was hanging in the bedroom upstairs. It was an emergency. He said he would call me back to let me know when he could come to fix it. Four hours later he called and said he could not come to do the job. He had too much other work to do. This resulted in me having to start all over again to find someone to repair the job. I hesitated about using him this time, but he was so highliy rated by Angie's list I thought I should give him a try. Wow, two times I got burned. People should not advertise if they are not willing or capable of doing the work. This is deceibing, and Angie's List should screen these kinds of contractors. Obviously, he is not a roofer as he claims. He would have taken the job otherwise.

Response from John Roccia's Family Roofing Co
I feel this report is ridiculous, Yes I did arrive one hour early (for which I apologized). Not a problem she said, I can get to the home show early. I inspected the attic after which we spoke for a few minutes. I then went outside to inspect her roof, at that point she left in her car. When I got up onto the roof, I realized then that between my current work schedule and the scope of this project I do not have the labor capacity to submit a proposal for her roofing work. I did email her telling her these facts. As for our first encounter it was Feb.2, 6:40am weather conditions, freezing rain and 40 plus mph winds. Her request to repair a hole in her roof from a tree branch, I would call you back by 9:00am was my reply to let you know if I could come out. At 9:00am the weather conditions were dangerous and I called and told her I would not come out, she was angry and hung up the phone. I truly feel I was nothing but honest with this person.

I was very pleased. John Roccia has a good work ethic. They were timely. He was the first one to come when I called for estimates. My neighbor in the back got their business card and the neighbor in the front watched them do the work and the clean up. One of their employees actually fell on the roof and I had a hole in my bedroom ceiling. The owner made sure that the drywall in the ceiling was completely redone and painted. It took another weekend into the schedule because of the accident. I was very pleased with the work and it was done on a timely basis. I would recommend them. The owner made sure everything was done properly and on time. He came to make sure the work was done correctly due to the accident and he even had an electrician come to check a light fixture.

We agree with other reviewers. John is a true craftsman. He was very careful in assessing the roof before providing an estimate and beginning work. He was honest in assessing what parts of the roof needed work and what parts could be left intact. The old roof had been done badly, with layer upon layer of rolled roofing on the gabled roof by prior owners and drains not functioning properly. He was careful to disassemble the old roof without causing damage to underlying structures and did an excellent job rebuilding the roof. The work was all extremely high quality. We can't say enough about what a pleasure it was to work with John. He was a gentleman and a true professional from begining to the end. It is the greatest feeling to know that now we don't have to worry about the most important part of our house. He was also great with our 7 month old twins! His work doesn't come cheap, but it is worth every penny, and his honesty helps contain costs because he won't recommend unnecessary repairs. We would definitely work with him again, although he did such a great job that we probably won't need him for many years.
Description of Work: Removed about 7 layers of old roofing material from the gabled roof. Repaired the wooden frame where needed. Re-shingled the gabled roof. Repaired drain in the front of the gabled roof. Placed gutters in the back of the gabled roof to improve drainage. Removed old roofing material from flat roof. Resurfaced the flat roof. Contoured the flat roof to improve drainage. Replaced flashing on flat roof. Installed 2 new skylights and re-flashed 3 old skylights.

I contacted Mr. Roccia with my roofing concerns. He politely listened and said that he would be out to look at the problems the following day. I explained that I could not be available when he arrived. After his assesment he was out again the next morning before I left for work. He patiently explained what repairs would be required and also recommended proper installation of repairs to my patio roof. I felt comfortable with everything that was being explained to me along with the reasons that caused the problems. I found Mr. Roccia to be honest, professional, punctual and clean. I never had to pick up a broom when I arrived from work after the job was completed. I am very pleased with this job.
Description of Work: Repair to my top main roof entailed removing and replacing the existing broken and wind damaged roof shingles. My patio roof needed repair as well. Mr. Roccia removed all roof shingles, felt and rotted wood. Raised corner joist and installed metal joist hanger. Replaced rotted plywood, covered wood with ice and water shield underlayment. Installed aluminium edge around the perimeter of roof, and installed fiberglass roof shingles.

John came out at the exact time he said that he would even though it had started to drizzle lightly. He completed the work in a few hours and I have not had any leaks at all since he repaired the roof. After 1 1/2 years of trying to figure out why & how my basement kept taking on water, he fixed it in no time flat and at a fantastic price. I would hire John again for any and all roofing jobs I might have in the future. I have referred him to all of friends without hesitation. He actually is an "Honest Roofer".
Description of Work: John inspected the roof and had an estimate ready for me in the same day. Through his inspection he found multiple holes in the roof where the former owners had installed an antenna, that had been taken down. In addition he also found that they did not install the flashing properly which caused water to run down the pipes and flooded my basement whenever it rained or when snow had melted. John personally removed and replaced the existing incorrect soil flashing (2) and the roof shingles around the pipe flashing, removed and replaced the roof shigles that had holes from the TV antenna & wires, removed the eye bolts in the roof and replaced shingles in that area and replaced a wind damaged piece of metal trip on the "A" roof pitch.

John took a look at my roof because I had water damage in my bedroom and he informed me that I had a drainage issue and told me how he could correct it, as well as some other maintenance activity that he recommended. I have two skylights that he recommended resealing and also offered a coating that reflects sunlight and keeps the home cooler in the summer. I had several estimates and all of the information I got from all of the roofers was more or less the same so I feel confident in his recommendations. His price was also the best and he worked with me on it to get where I needed to be. I asked him to take myself or my boyfriend up on the roof when he did the work, and he did so and showed him the problem areas so we could just feel better about having all the work done, my boyfriend said that John and his other employee were great, professional, on top of being really nice guys. John responded promptly to all my emails and phone calls and let me know when he could start work, showed up promptly and finished int he same day.
Description of Work: John corrected a drainage problem I was having on my roof as well as sealed my skylights, laid down a reflective energy saving coating and caulked my windows.
