Our flat roof was leaking on our twin house. I used Angie's List to obtain 3 quotes. Two came in around $600-700 and one was $1,200. John was one of the lower quoted prices. I went with him mainly because he seemed professional and was confident in his ability to fix the problem. No "well we can start by trying this..." stuff. I needed the leak fixed right the first time. I also appreciated that he did not lay on heavy pressure to put a whole new roof on without trying to patch it first. He was friendly, prompt, and understanding of a family member's earlier DIY attempts to fix the leak. It has rained heavily twice since the work was done and no more leak! I would absolutely recommend him.

Over the past year, I've had John over to my historic Old City home 4 times, and each time the (different) problem he fixed stayed fixed! The first time, we had a leak somewhere on the back of the house on the pitched roof that got into the masonry and caused the plaster to bubble up. The top of the roof is nearly 40 ft up and there's no way to access it from inside so it actually took him more time to get up there than to fix it! He found it was loose flashing, fixed it quickly, and charged me less than his typical minimum because it was such a simple thing. I was so pleased (and it never leaked again) that when our flat roof leaked, I called him. He fixed that as well, and again it was cheaper than I would have expected. Then there was yet ANOTHER, different leak, in a different place, so I called John again. He was slammed with business (due to the weather) and couldn't come right away, but he showed up exactly when he said he would. Unfortunately he didn't have the material on hand to repair it but he bought it, came back up a few days later (when he said he would!) and fixed it. It has not leaked again since. Our total outlay has been about $800, including materials, for 4 different visits and 3 permanent fixes, which makes me a happy homeowner. This is the first home we've owned, and we deeply appreciate that John always takes the time to explain what's going on and why. We've experienced torrential rain this summer and yet each time John fixed something, it's stayed fixed. John always gives you a time when he will call you back or email you a proposal, and he always does it exactly when he says he will. He always shows up when he says he will. He's fixed things while I wasn't home (because I got my days mixed up). So far, his estimates have been 100% accurate. I just wish I could find a "John" of electrical, masonry, etc., because the people we've contacted for those tasks haven't even a tiny shred of Mr. Roccia's punctuality & professionalism.

I met John in the Fall of 2013 to check our roof and give an estimate for a new rubber roof for our house. John promptly sent us a very detailed professional estimate listing all work to be done, charges involved, and all his license and insurance info. He also explained the ideal time to do this was in the Spring/Summer 2014 and that a deposit was necessary to get on the client list for 2014. Well, during the course of the Fall and Winter there were 2 separate occasions where our roof leaked badly into one of the bedrooms. A call to John was all it took and he arrived to quickly patch the roof to buy some time until we reached the ideal weather to complete the much needed new roof. I received other estimates for the roof that were all lower than John's, however, I decided to go with John because he is extremely professional, experienced, courteous, and punctual. I had the opportunity to go up onto the roof to see the job that was completed and I was very pleased. I would highly recommend John Roccia Family Roofing. I would also suggest that anyone interested should call early and give the deposit as soon as possible since I recommended John to two co-workers and they both told me that John wasn't taking additional customers presently.

Fantastic - so easy to work with. Very responsive to emails. We had several roofers come out who made the project much bigger than it needed to be (we can't just replace the roof - you need ALL NEW SIDING TOO!). John was completely honest with us and kept the project small (and affordable for us!). We had major leaking due to ice dams over the winter. John came out in 0-degree weather to patch up the roof until it could be replaced this summer. He didn't even charge extra for this service. A true professional. Our roof looks better than any of our neighbors and it didn't break the bank.

I did not use Roccia Roofing. the estimate was seven thousand dollars higher than the insurance estimate, and excluded the most needed section of the roof, which is the flat surface in the rear of the house.
Description of Work: . came to home, went on roof, gave estimate by mail. the estimate stated that only sloped surfaces would be reshingled and noted the 4 dormers. would be included. Home has three dormers (3), main part of wanted new roof was for a flat surface with two courses , wood shingles and asphalt shingles that insurance company stated needed to be removed and new plywood base and new fascia..installed. over the flat surface of the rear roof. Insurance company estimate was made available to Mr. Roccia before he wrote his estimate

Upon reading members review posted 6-10-2014. I referred back to my original proposal. Our proposal to member dated 1-20-2013 clearly stated that all sloped portions of the house & garage roofs were included, in fact there are no flat roof surfaces on any of these roofs. The number of doormers stated on our proposal was an honest mistake on my part and for this I apologize. I can not base my price for a job on the members home owners insurance company's price. In my opinion I gave a fair price In closing I always tell anyone to please call me if they have any questions or concerns once they receive our free estimate & proposal, had the member done so his concerns would have been resolved 18 months ago. .

John Roccia arrived with ladder, tools and sealant. He perched on his ladder and, using what looked like a caulking gun, sealed every inch of the border of his roof and along the metal flashing along the back edge of the roof. The job took about 20 minutes and he took everything with him that he brought.
Description of Work: We had developed a leak along the back edge of our roof. John had laid down the roof 3 years ago and the work was out of warranty. However, John showed up when he said he would and sealed the edge. John is an honorable man and is proud of his work, yet, I was still surprised when he refused payment. You cannot ask for a better contractor than that.

They did a very good job. I was very pleased with them. It was a pretty large area. I had received estimates for about $11,000; so that was a steal. They were prompt. They gave me the estimate pretty expeditiously. They came and did the work in a quick manner. As far as I can see, the work has been done very professionally. I haven't had any issues since that time, so everything should be okay. I was pleased with their pricing and their professionalism.

John was exceptional in responding to our calls and showing up at the exact time that was agreed upon. His crew was very neat, protecting the outside area and removing all trash and debris from the work site when the job was completed. The roof looks very professional and attractive. We have had no leaks since the new roof was installed. John, the owner, came back to inspect the finished job. While there, he re-calked a window and repaired a shingle on the higher roof at no additional charge. We were very pleased with the work and would not hesitate to use his services again and recommend his company to others.

Unfortuneately because of a death in the Roccia family he explained to me he was not able to take on my job.use I would use him for future work based on his promptness and thouroughness with the estimate.
Description of Work: John Roccia not only came out on time for the estimate, he was 5 minutes early. I had interviewed 3 other roofers and his presentation was far and away the most complete. He went over all of the nuances of the job and indicated that the price might be slightly higher to take care of the various details that my roof presented. Most of these details were not mentioned by other roofers. I made up my mind on the spot that this was a person who was forthright and believable. He said he did his estimates on Sunday and would have them emailed to me on Monday. I did not receive an estimate by Monday noon and put in a call to him. 2 hours later I received a call from him letting me know that there had been a death in the family and he would not be able to take on any new work for the near future. Regrettably my repair was near the end of the roofing season in early November. Otherwise I would have waited and had him do the work. I would hire him for future work based on my experience.

I called John Roccia for an estimate to coat the roof and inspect the chimney because water was coming from the clean out cap at the base of the chimney. Mr. Roccia arrived on time and after inspecting the roof and chimney said I didn't need a roof coating for two more years; from what he could see the chimney, the terra cotta was rusted inside, and because he wasn't an expert on chimneys, suggested I go to Angies List and find someone who is. He went on to explain that he uses a muncy type roof coating that lasts 7 years. John told me to contact him in two years and he'll be glad to coat my roof. Talk about an honest roofer - John Roccia is it! I will definitely call John Roccia Roofing for all my roofing needs.

John was GREAT! He came over to take a look at our roof (which was leaking). First of all, when he came in the house, he took off his shoes! Which I thought was very courteous, especially considering we have 2 kids and the house was not necessarily "in order". He inspected the roof (we have 3 different roof sections/levels) and told us that the front and back (not main) roof needed replacing and explained the leakage we were seeing in the back. I can't remember the reason but it had to do with the flashing and the gutters being clogged. He emailed us a quote for the work which was much more reasonable than another quote we got, so we hired him. The work was delayed a few days because there was so much rain happening around this time, but his team came and got everything done in two days. The workers were so courteous and very sweet to my children. They even re-hung a shutter and chimney cap for us that had blown off in Hurricane Sandy for no additional charge! We had a great experience with John and his team. We would (and will) use him again in a heartbeat!

First visit from John was to replace my roof - I didn't select John based on price - but I now consider that to be a poor decision on my part. John showed up right on time to look at the job and give me a bid for new roof - unlike the other roofers he spent quite a bit of time on the roof - which makes sense since my roof is not a simple roof - there are multiple dormers and multiple levels involved. My impression of John at that time was that he was clearly the best roofer of the lot - but his price was higher and I assumed I could get a good enough roofer and roof and fix my leak without getting the best roofer - in hindsight I'd say that was a big mistake. The second visit from John - as noted above - was after I had spent 18 months and $23,000 trying to fix the same leak that started the project in the first place. I called John because I remembered all the comments about how good John was at finding leaks. John came out right on-time - he remembered that I had him bid on the job originally - he didn't rub it in that I was now calling him to look at the same problem - even after I had the roof replaced. John listened to the problem - went on the roof- asked for a hose and found the leak in about 2 minutes. I'm now waiting for his bid to fix the leak which he says he will provide by Sunday. I'll update this review when the work is done... but I wanted to share my story to help others avoid what I went through. I'd strongly suggest using John for your new roof.
Description of Work: I was having a persistent leak in my Kitchen so I decided to replace my roof vs just fixing the leak - the roof was around 20 years old. I contacted 3 roofers to get bids- of the 3 John's bid was the highest - so I went with a lower priced contractor. The lower priced contractor came and replaced my roof (about $15,000) - which was all well and good - but the new roof still leaked after they completed the job. I of course called the roofer back to fix the leak and they came back 3 or 4 times trying to fix the leak - no luck. So then - assuming that the roofer was a least mildly competent - I decided that maybe the origin of the leak was the stucco. I had several stucco contractors come out - I showed them the leaking area - they didn't provide any input into whether they thought the stucco could be the problem but they thought it was a possibility. After talking to 3 different stucco companies I had Jamison Masonry take down and replace the entire wall (cost $8,000). Two days after Jamison completed the job it rained and water came pouring into the kitchen - so the stucco wasn't the problem and whatever they had done seemed to have aggravated the problem. I had the stucco guy come take a look - he slapped some caulk all over the place and said it wasn't anything they did/they weren't responsible they did what they were hired to do. At that point I had had a enough - $23,000 into fixing a leak and the roof still leaks. That's when I called John back - he came - as usual right on time and he actually listened to me when I described the problem - then - and this is shocking - he asked if I had a hose. Within 2 minutes he found the leak. I could kick myself for not using him to do my roof. I would highly recommend John to do your roof - my guess is he will be the more expensive bid initially - but I'm certain the extra investment in having the job done right will be worth it.

Was deciding between John and another company, and ultimately chose the other company because they were the first to diagnose the problem properly and also because they were a little more competitive on price. However, I really would have been happy to have John do the work had his price been a little more competitive. Overall, I found him to be sincere and thorough, and very easy-going, as his reviews and feedback attest to on Angie's List. I really got the sense that he treats each job with sincere professionalism. Although I did not use him in the end, thought highly enough of him to leave a positive review on Angies List

We had had another roofer give us an estimate which involved a lot of siding/roof removal. When John came out, he looked at the roof and showed me/explained how nails had popped and how he would repair them. All work was completed within 45 minutes. Yesterday, we had 8" of rainfall, and not a drop of water in our addition. Kudos to John! Would I use his company's services again? Absolutely! !

It was a great experience. Their price was probably the mid-price among the quotes that I got. They did a very good job. They were very clean and you would not even know that I had a roof done. They covered everything. They put a dumpster on the driveway and they shoot everything there. There were no nails or roofing materials when they stripped the roof down. I did not have to do any cleanup at all. John also explained everything including the purpose of the roofing and that there is no need to replace the upper roof because what I had on was better than what you could purchase now. So, he was very helpful.

He was very nice, prompt, and very professional. I'd recommend him to anybody. He showed us ways of saving money and he told us what it was. He definitely steered us away from trying to sell us any new roof or anything like that. The way he bills you is really good too, because he only takes 30% of what he is charging you at first. We've been having a leaky roof for a long time and we've had a roofer and some other people up there and they never could do anything. So he said he would try to do it and if it doesn't work then we didn't owe the rest of the money and that they would just come back and try to figure something else out. So that's more than fair. So we have only given him 30% of the bill so far because he's waiting for a storm; when it rains, he wants us to check and make sure it doesn't leak anymore first. Then we'll give him the balance once we know it's fixed. When he first came out for a consultation, he took his time and spent at least an hour here. He put a hose to the roof to identify where the water was coming from. The other guys I've had in the past did not do that. And he didn't even charge for that. He also gave us a 10% discount for Angie's List.

This vendor did work on our roof. The first vendor that repaired our roof did not do a good job and we had a leak. John came out and attempted at fixing the leak which worked for a couple of months. Unfortunately it didn't work long term and when the leak started again, we called him and he came out immediately first thing that morning to fix it. It was fixed this time and a year later we have no issues. Great vendor, very professional and we would definitely use him again.

We originally contacted Mr. Roccia a year or so ago via Angie's List for repairs on a home in which our son lives. We were pleased with his work there and therefore called him when we had the recent problem. We appreciate his professionalism and his timely response and would certainly use his services again.
Description of Work: We experienced a dramatic leak in our newly-purchased renovated row house. I called Mr. Roccia and he came out on a Saturday and repaired the immediate problem for only $35.00. We asked him to check the overall roof while he was here and he noticed that the edges of the roof needed better sealing. He made an appointment to return the following week and did the work at that time.
