Hudson Hardwood Floors

The floors look great.  Joe was very flexible in scheduling.  He has a good attitude and works hard.  I think the pricing is competitive.  

The only negative I experienced was the lack of attention to detail.  More than once I came home and some of the breakers were turned off.  There is a polyurethane stain on our front porch.  

I was away from my house for a few days while they worked on my house and a package for me was left by the front door.  I drove by and didn't see it so I asked Joe if they had seen it and he told me they had not.  I had to deal with the seller to get replacements sent.  When I got back to my house after Hudson Hardwoods was done, I saw the package on the kitchen counter.  They had moved them in and then didn't remember doing this, which seems very odd to me.  How would you not remember doing something like this the previous day?

They put a small hole in one of the kitchen walls and didn't tell me about it.  They promptly fixed it when I told Joe about the hole but I have to wonder what they were thinking.  Did they think I wouldn't notice a hole in the wall?  

None of these were big issues but it does not give me a good feeling when I work with a contractor who doesn't have the sense to point out accidents or small problems when doing a project or take care of simple things like turning the breakers back on when you are done.  It only makes me wonder about the other things I didn't notice.  There are a lot of shady contractors out there and it's hard to know who to trust.

The negative aspects were relatively minor and would not stop me from using Hudson Hardwoods again.

Joe Hudson was the first to answer from Angie's list. I am a landlord of a rental property in Philadelphia , and live in California. I needed someone honest,reliable, and answer promptly! Joe was able to visit the rental, remove some of carpet and determine condition of hardwood floors. Within a day of my call! He honestly discussed my options, cautioned there could be problems when the carpet was removed. We decided to take the chance. Coordinating with tenants and workers with a three hour time difference is a challenge. Joe , texted,called and worked with the tenants and texted pictures every step of the way. There were additional repairs needled for broken and missing wood. Joe solved the problem by taking flooring from a closet and patching the floor. He sent a video of the finished hardwood genius!! Considering the floors are a least 60 years old the rental has a beautiful rustic look! Joe was a pleasure to work with. He is a hardworking professional with an admirable work ethic. He was quick to respond to every question and concern. I highly recommend Hudson Hardwood Floors!

I was extremely happy with Hudson Hardwood's work.  Joe Hudson did a great job communicating with me throughout the process and went out of his way to schedule the work at a time that worked for me.  The finished product looked great.  I would definitely use Hudson Hardwood again.

Joe was the first contractor I hired when I bought my new house. I liked that Joe is a sole proprietor who does all of the work himself and who stands by the quality of his work. The first time I called, he picked up the phone and helpfully explained the process and was upfront about his prices.
Joe responded to all of my emails and phone calls and even texts promptly. And most importantly, Joe made the floors shine. He completed the job in the amount of time specified. I couldn't have asked for more. The next contractor who visited my house saw the floors and asked for Joe's contact information, which I think is a testament to the level of Joe's craft.

Joe Hudson was great. He did everything he said he would do, and completed the job on time. The fllors of my house are very old, and had water damage, 100 years of ware and tear plus past attempts to refinish portions of the floor by previous owners with dubious results.
Joe gave us back warm, glowing natural finished floors with little to no dust (my wife has COPD). I hightly recommend his services and would use him again in a heartbeat. He worked with our schedule and got the floors finished with the least amout of inconvenience (2 highly used rooms). Great job!!!

Joe was phenomenal. He was punctual, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, trustworthy, easy to contact, and, most importantly, did incredible work. He was at the upper end of our price range but was worth every penny. The dustless sanding is absolutely worth the extra cost. I think I can best sum up our experience with Joe by recounting one of our early conversations with him. We have a room that is not heated and subject to outdoor temperature fluctuations. We were planning to simply redo the floors but Joe suggested that we wait and see how the floors in the room behave throughout the year. He could have just done what we asked and made more money but he was concerned that we would not be 100% happy with final product. If you hire Joe you will not only get someone with all the qualities that I mentioned above, you will get someone who wants to guarantee that you will love the final product.

I've been putting off writing this review for quite some time because, honestly, it took me some time to gather my thoughts and gain some valuable hindsight. The truth is that working with Joe Hudson of Hudson hardwood was one of the best decisions I made in my renovation. My family and I made the decision to buy a 200 year old farmhouse that needed a lot of work. Me - lacking what some might call intelligence or good judgement - decided to undertake the renovation myself with no previous experience. Part of the plan called for new floors in a few rooms, refinishing some 200 year old floors, and various other fixes and improvements. I had a few flooring contractors come out and look around. They never followed up, either out of fear of the job or not liking me or whatever. Not with joe. I called joe and he answered immediately. An hour later he was in my house. That alone is almost unheard of in the world of contractors, but what came next was simply priceless. I have particular tastes and a limited budget, so after talking it over with joe I decided I would do the installation and he would do the sanding and finishing (the parts I knew I would probably seriously mess up). Of course, nothing I wanted was easy or mainstream. I wanted 5" white oak and I wanted a woca oil finish in two rooms. 5" white oak in my house, in this area of the country, is somewhat demanding to install. Joe helped me through it. He gave me advice. He problem solved with me. He let me borrow tools. He directed me to resources. He was flat out worth his weight in gold. When it came time to do the finishing he again made me realize what a fantastic decision I had made. He turned 200 year old abused pine into the most beautiful floor I've ever seen. He fixed neglect and wear. And of course he made the new floors look absolutely amazing. All the while he was so easily available via text, email, and phone. I really can't tell you how invaluable that is in any contractor. Joe worked around my schedule. He delivered on time and on budget. He was professional, easy to work with, flexible, and one of the reasons I was able to get the job done in the ridiculously aggressive timeline I had worked out. He was a true pleasure to work with. My only regret is that he specializes in floors, because I would've hired him to do everything in my house.

Joe did everything he could to accommodate our very tight timeline without sacrificing the end result. He took his time, used quality products, and overall the floors look fantastic.

Joe refinished our living room floor about 5 years ago and did a fantastic job so it only made sense to give him a call when we were ready to tackle the stairs, upstairs hallway and master bedroom.  Joe was meticulous when it came to all of the tiny spaces that exist when refinishing steps with 60 years of carpet staples and 3 spindles per step!  He was neat and clean - so much so that I was even able to entertain for Thanksgiving in the middle of the job.  He also worked (very patiently) with me through several attempts to get the stain color perfect.  I would highly recommend Hudson Hardwood.

Joe did a great job. He made our floors look really nice, including in the bedroom where the floor had been painted. It looks better than we even imagined it would, and the repairs he made blend in seamlessly. Joe worked to find a schedule that was ok for us. He was courteous and professional. He did a great job for a fair price. Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to have work done on their floors.

Joe was excellent and professional from start to finish - he responded promptly to my inquiry, delivered a quick and reasonable estimate (a little higher than others, but worth it because of his quality work), fit me into his busy schedule right when I needed the work done, and delivered beautiful floors with minimal mess. He was the only person I found who had experience with the WOCA product, and he was open, interested and willing to investigate other eco-friendly options and alternatives.

Hudson Hardwood installed bamboo floors throughout the second level of my home...replacing carpet. Joe did an outstanding job - he originally got my business not by being the lowest price (although not significantly higher) but by his willingness to answer any questions and follow through on all my concerns. Throughout the job, he did a great job of communicating and keeping me updated on his progress. Partway through the job, we had an unwelcome structural surprise and Joe went above and beyond in trying to find a solution to the problem. The floors look great - Joe takes a great deal of pride in what he does and really wants the client to be happy with the final product. He is honest and can be trusted to take good care of your home. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again and can highly recommend his work.

I wasn't sure if refinishing our the floors in our 1920's home was worth the effort but Joe assured me that they would look great. He was right. I can't believe that I'm looking at a floor that is 100 years old. We went with the water based method, rather than using poly and they dried fast and look wonderful. Joe's price for this product was a lot lower than other estimates that I got. My family ended up leaving for the week while his team worked, and Joe sent daily progress reports and photos. I would absolutely use him again.

• Let's face it, getting your wood floors refinished is not easy, but Joe did a fantastic job at accommodating us through the whole process. He is very passionate about what he does and it shows in the quality of my finished floors. Joe is responsive, he always got back to me quickly and made sure I was updated on the progress of the floors. He went above and beyond (worked during the weekend and 4th of July) to get me back in my house when I needed to be back in. The dustless sanding system that he uses is fantastic. I was very nervous about having dust everywhere because my floor plan is extremely open, but with the vacuums he uses the amount of dust left looked like I hadn't dusted for a couple of days. We were actually able to live in the house during the sanding process, though we decided against staying in the basement during the coats. Our son managed to, the water based product we chose wasn't horribly smelly. I got several estimates before deciding on Hudson Hardwood. His price was pretty much in the middle of the pack, but well worth it. Joe takes a lot of care in the whole process and your floors will show it.
  
  

The work is IMPECCABLE. The new floor matches the old floor perfectly and it’s impossible to see where the patchwork was done. I have no idea how he was able to match new flooring to floors that were installed 60 years ago - be he did it seamlessly.


His dust-less floor sanding process is amazing. We recently had the entire house primed and painted and were worried about ruining the paint but the house was literally dust-free when he was finished. We didn't even have to dust or clean when we got back into the house!


I also really appreciated Joe's constant communication and his daily updates. He always let us know what was going to be done the next day and he even sent picture updates at the end of each work day. We looked forward to getting the text messages with the pictures every night. He kept us in the loop and made us feel like we were involved throughout the entire process. We knew exactly what was happening, which is such a great feeling when you are having work done at your house.


Joe’s attention to detail, his precision and his dedication to his craft is visible in every room of our house. He was patient as we made our decisions, he worked with our schedule (he worked nonstop!) and he is probably the nicest guy ever.


We weren't sure what color to choose - we like dark wood but didn't want to make the rooms feel smaller. He tested so many stains for us and helped us select the perfect color that gave us the dark look that showed all of the wood grain detail while still making the rooms feel big. We went with special walnut - it's beautiful!

He also answered all of our questions within minutes. We felt like he was constantly available to us.


I was speechless when I saw the floors. I really didn’t think they would look this good but it's the first compliment we hear when people come to see our new house. This is a big investment, but you cannot go wrong with Joe from Hudson. He’s amazing and his work is perfection.

Joe was referred to us by some good friends that he refinished their hardwood floors. He did an amazing job on the refinish that the floors looked brand new. We had Joe back to replace the carpet in the rest of the main floor with hardwood and the new floors matched the existing flawlessly. Joe always returned a call promptly and arrived at the time he committed to. He was attentive to every detail, left the house clean and in the several quotes I received he was the most reasonable. I would have him back in a heartbeat for additional hardwood installation and I highly recommend him to others. Trustworthy and Reliable for sure!

Work was performed as described in a very timely manner and results were everything we expected. They also moved furniture and came back to place furniture back in the room. All in all a great experience.

Professional, timely, courteous . Joe is an excellent communicator whether it be explaining the process and one's expectations while being respectful of one's surroundings/ property throughout the course of the project.

Joe did such a great job with the refinish and new install that all the floors looked like they were all brand new installs and they matched perfectly. I would definitely use him again and recommend him. You always want to be sure that the person coming into your home is someone who is trustworthy and I can definitely say that about Joe.

My husband and I recently bought our first home, a historic property in Philadelphia -- a home with great character and wonderful features, but one with floors needing some major work (both refinishing and new installation). We interviewed multiple contractors (from referrals, Angie's list and internet searches) and Hudson Hardwood Floors was the obvious BEST choice! Joe provided us with a competitive quote, great knowledge of installation and refinishing, AND he was willing to accommodate our renovation schedule. They were professional, reliable, punctual, and a pleasure to work with!
They provide great service with all types of wood -- our home has multiple types of wood floors -- oak on the 1st and 3rd floors (which needed full refinishing), and wood of unknown type (to us) on only part of the 2nd floor (which needed refinishing and new installation on the rest of the 2nd floor). Joe Hudson impressed us with his knowledge and skill, and was one of very few contractors who recognized the unique 2nd floor wood as maple (which we learned needs a different dye technique to take stain color correctly). Thank goodness we went with Hudson Hardwood Floors!
Joe knew best how to match our current wood floors with installation of new maple wood on the remainder of the 2nd floor -- he even feathered the new wood in seamlessly! Our floors are stunning! We were so pleased with the final product, we even hired him a month later to do additional work in our home!

I called Hudson while in a bind as my other flooring guy bailed on me
last minute and needed to get this room ready for new tenants. Couldn't
have been happier with the results. He cared for the end product as if
the room were in his own house and maintained a respect for the old wood
that you just can't match anymore. There were even 2 original planks
that were too warped to be salvaged, yet Joe found a way to get wood and
stain that was close enough that it was able to match the original
perfectly. He worked with my pressing schedule and was a pleasure to
hire.

Joe is a true professional, unlike other people out there refinishing floors. The sanding process is clean, not dusty. He's knowledgeable about wood and finishes and uses high quality products. I highly recommend him.
