My situation was not urgent, so I took the time to have 3 companies who were highly rated on Angie's List come to my house to give me a proposal and estimate. East Coast Comfort was by far the best deal for the same work. Tony was friendly and professional. He explained everything to me and provided details when I was comparing different options. He did not try to "upsell" me on anything, even when I was considering a more expensive unit. He did all of the work in one day and left everything clean and tidy. He followed up with a phone call to make sure that everything was OK. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: They replaced the electric HVAC system in my 1250 suare foot townhouse - new compressor in rear of my unit and new air handler inside; new programmable thermostat. no duct work done.

Initially I had a little difficulty getting in touch with ECC. I had left a voicemail message that was never returned, but when I left a second message saying so, I got a call within half an hour and this was outside of business hours. An estimate was scheduled in a reasonable amount of time and Ed showed up to meet me right on time. At this point I had already had two other companies come out to give estimates and I was really impressed with how Ed walked me through the whole job - including asking questions about where I might want the return air trunks to be located. We also discussed the placement of the units in the basement, something the other companies didn't seem to give much thought to at that stage in the process. I really had the feeling that Ed knew what he was doing and found him to be very genuine and helpful. I did end up speaking to another company after ECC and decided to go with that company rather than ECC even though ECC's quote was just slightly lower. What it came down to for me was that Ed did not believe the duct work would fit within the walls of my home and that it would be necessary to build out areas of the first floor ceiling to accommodate the ducts. This was going to be out of character with the home and while I was willing to go ahead anyway, my husband kept saying how stupid it would look and wanted to find out what other options there were. I brought this up in an email to Ed and he very politely said that he just didn't think that would work out. The other company was able to find a way to make it work, however, and that is why we went with them instead. Were it not for that one issue, I think we very likely would have moved forward with ECC. I think I'm in the minority of HVAC reviewers who wanted to have an entire system installed including duct work, so if you are looking for new units to tie into your existing forced air system, I highly recommend contacting ECC!
Description of Work: I had my 104 year old Victorian home (1400-1500 sq ft) gutted down to the studs and wanted to have a forced air system installed for heating and cooling. Previously the home had baseboard heat and window AC units. The estimate I received was for a 2 stage heat, 96% efficient, variable speed indoor blower, gas fired warm air furnace; outdoor air conditioner unit, indoor air conditioning evaporator coil, all duct work including main supply in basement and duct work extending to the first and second floors, thermostat, moving gas piping, etc. We also got a separate quote for $2660 for the installation of a new direct-vented hot water heater.

Recirculating pump on my house heater stopped functioning. PGW service would not work on it since the pump is not commercial grade, Series 100. EEC service man came and walked me through all the steps to eliminate different possible reasons for the pump failure. He rewired the pump, making sure that all the electrical connections are secure, and the pump started working again. He didn't immediately jump to conclusions that the pump needed replacing, which would have cost me several hundred dollars at minimum. The final bill was about $80. Fantastic.

We were very pleased with the services and professional expertise. The cold weather will be coming soon and we are glad that we acted to replace the more than 50 year old furnace. Tony also assured us that our new furnace would be more efficient and quieter!
Description of Work: We contacted East Coast Comfort to get an estimate for replacement of the furnace. This was back in December of 2011. Tony submitted a proposal but we did not act on the replacement until August when I re-contacted him. He stuck with his original estimate and also made a home visit to ascertain specific information and see the furnace being replaced. We were impressed with this. His estimate was fair and lower than others we had received so we decided to go with East Coast. A three man team arrived with Tony to remove the old furnace and install the new. They were careful to lay drop cloths so no dirt was tracked through the house. They removed the old furnace in pieces and made sure that it had been taken away before they were finished with the installation. They were professional and polite and completed the job within the time frame that Tony had indicated. It was a one day installation and they left the basement clean as well.

The technician (Ed) got to work right after arriving. He spent quite a bit of time cleaning out the inside of the furnace. He had to leave mid-job to pick up a replacement nozzle, as it was a non-standard type. Ed really seemed to know about this system, much more so than technicians provided by other service companies. He attributed that to having worked for an oil company previously. I haven't used the furnace yet, but I anticipate good performance. To top it off, the cost of this maintenance from East Coast Comfort is significantly less than the prices I was quoted by other service companies. (They even offer a small Angie's List discount.)

This was a difficult job in a very old home. They are owner operated and more competitive than the big companies with large overhead. If you want a quality job, this is your team. If I had more HVAC work for these guys, I would go to them without hesitation and would gladly recommend them to anyone who needs HVAC work. Top quality work at reasonable prices in an area that expects top dollar for mediocre work and service. Out of all of the work done on my 200 year old home, this team and their work has been the best out of all other services I have had performed on my home.
Description of Work: East Coast Comfort was used to install central air in my 200 year old home. Ed , Tony and team installed my natural gas furnace in December, 2011 and did such a fine job that I had to quote them out to do my central air in March 2012. I had two 3.5 ton Lennox single stage high-efficiency units and air handlers installed. New ducting, air handlers and AC units were installed from scratch. Vents and returns were installed in the floors and ceilings (for 2nd floor). This was a tough job and it was performed impeccably.

Tony and Ed make it a point to communicate immediately, diagnose a problem, and take care of it in the fastest and most economical way. After they did my huge job that bitter January, dismantling a huge old coal stove and removing an oil tank, I referred them to my son and daughter, who had the same job done at their houses--though not on an emergency basis. You can't give more of a positive recommendation than that.
Description of Work: Since East Coast Comfort had done an emergency mighty old-gas conversion for me in the dead of winter, I recommended them to a friend who had an old heat pump installation needing repair and maintenance. Ed McCollum somehow found the computer board to make the unit on the roof work perfectly, a much more economical job than replacing the heat pump.

I am so glad I took this Angie?s list recommendation. They were extremely professional and did a wonderful job. They were very patient and helpful with my extensive questions as I learned about high efficiency heating and cooling. They took my concerns into consideration with placement of a new return, explained the venting necessary with the new systems and helped me to decide on the best system for my situation. They came on time, worked throughout the day, and stayed late to finish it all in one day. They were very pleasant and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: They installed a new HVAC system. Specifically, they installed a new Lennox 96% AFUE 70,000 BTU 2 stage heat variable speed blower gas fired furnace, a 24,000 BTU air conditioning condensing unit with indoor evaporator coil, with new PVC combustion piping to outside, digital programmable thermostat, and a automatic bypass humidifier. In addition, they added a return at the basement where one had been eliminated during a previous renovation.

Explained in "services performed" above.
Description of Work: Purchased the "big deal" for cleaning/tune-up of central a/c plus another another for the furnace. My units are 3 yrs old & always functioned perfectly. The tech said we were low on coolant, and might need some soon. It seemed like he was cleaning/performing tune-ups on my systems while he was here...he even pulled out a dead bird and a heater manual that could've caught fire! About 2 weeks later, we needed the a/c & discovered it was not working. Called East Coast Comfort back out, and sure enough- we needed coolant at a cost of around $280, I believe. Tech was asked if that meant we had a leak that needed to be fixed, but he said it is normal for a newer unit to just LOSE that amount of coolant. It operated fine until August, about 4 months after the original "cleaning", & then it stopped working again. The unit was running constantly without cycling, was leaking water on the basement floor, and was not cooling the air. We used a different company to diagnose the problem this time, and we were shocked to learn that the outside unit was very dirty, so dirty to the point that our unit could've been badly damaged, and the tech said it definitely was NOT cleaned AT ALL by East Coast Comfort. He had to use an acid foam cleaner 3 times to get the unit clean & working working again.

They arrived at 8am sharp and they called before they came. They explained to me again what they were installing and began to instal the return and then the brand new heater. They were very friendly and personable. They finished the work around 1:30 and then walked me through how everything worked. They tested the heater to make sure that everything was working and made sure that I was happy with the service.I received four estimates from other heating companies but ECC were the cheapest with the best quality. I would definitely recommend them and I plan on working with them again in the future.

During my life, I have encountered a few businesses that had service as high quality as East Coast Comfort, but none better. We needed to replace our central AC, and we decided to replace the heating unit as well. They gave us a timely appointment for an estimate, and they then called back to let us know they had a cancellation and gave us an even better time. One of the owners, Tony, came and took careful measurements, and he sent us a quote in two days with a very competitive price. Once we committed, they gave us a timely install date, and then (once again) called with an even better date. In every instance, everyone was very courteous and punctual. Before and after I committed to the install, Tony patiently answered any question we had. One particularly nice touch: They were working next to our new water heater, which another company had installed. Tony noticed that the pipe leading from the emergency release valve was inappropriate and potentially dangerous, so he just went ahead a replaced it without charging for it.

Bought a prepaid coupon for air conditioner tune up. The company called to make an appointment in a few days. Ed McCollum arrived when expected. He was business like and pleasent. My air conditioner had stopped cooling. We could not figure out what the problem was. ECC found that all the freon had leaked from the unit. We called Wednesday night. They returned our call and came out Thursday at the time scheduled. They were honest, professional, courteous, personable. They are very knowledgable. Ed did not try to sell us any services we did not need. We are planning to have him return to check our heating system. We would definitely recommend them.

The guy was very punctual and professional. He answered all my questions in details. However, when I asked, what you will clean since the package was "$65 for Spring Tune-Up, Clean and Check! ". He asked, they don't clean anything in this service. Cleaning requires more labor and money. He said, may be "clean" was a typo in the deal title. I may still use this company for my future A/C heating issues or maintenance but, would prefer if they do exactly what they offered originally in the deals.

I called after hours on a weeknight to request service for our air conditioning unit/HVAC system. We were very concerned because our a/c wasn't cooling the house properly, and our baby was sick (so we didn't want to house to get too warm). The technician on call responded within 15 minutes, and scheduled an appointment for first thing the next morning. He arrived on time, fixed the issue for a fair price, gave us advice on how to maintain the system properly to save money in the future, and even applied the discount from angies list without my asking him! It was overall an excellent experience.
