Very well from start to finish which includes my contacts with the company's office as well as with the technicians themselves and the closeout. All of my questions about the heating system were answered without any beating around the bush and some minor repairs on the ductwork were done without charge. As indicated above I would certainly use the company again and would have no hesitation in recommending them to my friends and family apologize for the delay in completing the review. I completed it in March and thought I had submitted it. Even after your second request, I was so certain that I had that I didn't check to be sure. Today, I found that I had not. Again, my apologies to all who were inconvenienced by my delay and especially to the workers.
Description of Work: Replacement of whole house heater, removal of old system and cleanup of work area. On a scale from A - F, my overall satisfaction with Angie's List.com is A

Tony did an installation of a heat pump/AC for our 3rd Floor last fall. At that time we realized that the 1st and 2nd floor were not balanced well. He tried a low cost alteration for us which helped but was not sufficient. If the 2nd floor was cool enough on a hot day, the 1st floor would be very cold. If the 1st floor was comfortable on a hot day, the 2nd floor would be too warm. This problem was due to a poor installation by someone else 10 years ago. I suggested supplemental cooling for the 2nd floor but did not want window units. I knew about split systems and asked Tony. He has experience with them and agreed that it would solve the problem. He and his crew were very professional. We were able to work during the installation. It took all day but when they left, everything was neat and clean and the system was more attractive and more quiet than I anticipated. We now have all three floors with comfortable and efficient heating and cooling. Tony is a pleasure to talk to. He listened to our concerns and was willing to consider many options to solve our issues in the most economical way. He takes pride in his work.
Description of Work: Tony and his crew installed a Fujitsu mini split system in the 2nd Floor of our small office building.

They had to come back after ordering replacement. They were able to connect the system such that we were able to use it in cooling mode until they could return. They did a great job wiring the replacement unit in as an exact replacement was not available.
Description of Work: Work was done a while ago so cost may not be right but it was close. End result was the need for a new control unit in the outside housing for heat pump.

Overall, ECC is a high quality, well informed contractor who did exactly what was proposed, in the same time frame as proposed. All I can say is thanks to Angies List for presenting information that a consumer can use to compare many features of a contractor without wondering if the consumer has checked out the quality of the other contractors. I'm still wondering why several others have also found ECC to be better priced than others, quick to respond, workmanship without complaints and a very nice team of workers to have in my home. I compliment their careful respect of carpets (using boot covers), cleaning up perfectly, and willingness to discuss various questions during their work.
Description of Work: Diagnosed a duct work problem in one heating system at our home, which is still to be repaired when heating not necessary. Also diagnosed a separate problem in the hot air furnace which was related to another contractors incorrect installation. Prior to authorizing his replacement of the furnace I called two other HVAC contractors, but did not tell them about ECC's proposed plan to replace the furnace. One told me that a repair would fix the problem but could not guarantee it would last very long. He, too, suggested a new furnace for about $6,000.00. The third person to quote a replacement and said the furnace could not be repaired wanted $7,500.00. Admittedly I wondered about what quality furnace ECC would provide, but checked out the various Lennox furnaces made, the model ECC was offering me and could not understand how/why ECC was so much more reasonable. I still don't know that answer, but it's been installed and so far working better than it's previous system.

I had become tired of paying $700 each time the oil tank was filled, and it needed to be filled at least twice and sometimes three times per season. Also, you have to keep tabs on the fill valve to make sure you don't run out of oil before the truck makes its delivery, and I tried to keep up with annual maintenance visits which cost an additional $75-$100 per year. Therefore, I became an Angie's List member to get some estimates on switching from oil to gas heating. East Coast Comfort (ECC) was one of the two companies I called for estimates. From the beginning it was easy to reach someone from ECC on the phone. If there was no one available when I called, I got a call back within 30 minutes. We scheduled a time for an estimate and Ed arrived on time and gave an honest opinion about the need for a changeover from an oil-fired to a gas-fired system. The current oil-fired burner and boiler were 17 years old and were still in good working order. After learning how much I spent a year on oil delivery (about $1500), He said he couldn't guarantee that the savings I would get from switching to gas would make up for the expense of making the switch. I spent a couple of weeks considering the estimate, went to PGW's website to determine the gas company's savings estimate, and then decided to make the switch and to go with ECC. Tony and Jim from ECC arrived on time and got right to work. First, they removed the old heating system and installed the new one, so that we would have heat that day. As soon as they removed a piece of equipment, they had someone come by to get it off the property. They were very organized and had a great system so that they removed every piece of debris before they left for the day. They somehow managed to get the old oil tank out of the house in one piece with minimal sign that they had just removed a 217 gallon tank. This involved them moving the washer, dryer, and tub sink so that they could get the tank out the door. They came back the next day to replace the hot water heater and provided the same quality service as the day before. In addition, Tony brought along and installed a new screen door handle to replace the one that had broken the day before while they were working. Ed, Tony, Jim and Brittany were professional and respectful at all times. I definitely recommend East Coast Comfort in Philadelphia for any heating equipment issues and I would call them again.
Description of Work: East Coast Comfort upgraded the house heating system from oil to gas. They converted an oil-fired hot water boiler to a gas-fired hot water boiler. They disconnected, removed and disposed of the existing oil-fired hot water boiler; recovered the remaining fuel from the oil tank, disconnected, removed and disposed of the oil tank, fill and vent piping. They installed the following: a Utica 83% AFUE gas-fired hot water boiler with electronic ignition; an automatic low water safety shutoff; a diaphragm type expansion tank; a Honeywell automatic air eliminator; new galvanized flue piping on the interior (we already had a galvanized flue pipe in the chimney); a new automatic water feeder with backflow preventer; and a new Honeywell digital thermostat. In addition, while they were working, they discovered that our 10-1/2 year old gas hot water heater was corroded and in bad shape (I was not surprised because we usually get about 10 years out of hot water heaters). After getting my approval, they came back the next day to replace the hot water heater with a 40 gallon Bradford gas hot water heater.

We took several quotes when we originally decided to make the plunge and get air conditioning in our 1930s house, which has radiator heat only. Tony from East Coast Comfort took the time to explain all of our options for us, and we discussed options such as high efficiency, size of the cooling unit, and placement in depth. He even came back twice to make sure we were all in agreement on the vent placement. ECC's quote was the lowest by a couple of thousand dollars. More importantly, they installed the entire system in two days and left the house spotless. The vents are not noticeable, and even though there is some (flexible) tubing in our closets upstairs, it is not nearly as bad as the "high efficiency" guys would have you believe. Tony even came out months later to adjust the flow of the unit for us -- for free. In short, best price, completely professional, would recommend them to anyone. Book early for your a/c! They're very popular!
Description of Work: New install of a/c system - house did not previously have vents.

Called to get another opinion on replacing a circulating pump on our boiler. SO GLAD I did!!! Of course the pump had stopped making noises by the time they came to look at it and didn't make a peep for the 2 hours they were there. Ed came out and serviced the boiler, found a couple of other minor issues with it and recommended waiting since the offending noise coming from the pump had stopped. He also bled the radiators, which someone else had supposedly done awhile back, and we now have heat on the 3rd floor for the first time in 5 years. Ed was on time, knowledgeable and helpful. He didn't try to sell me service plans or convince me to do work that wasn't needed. If the circulator pump fails, which I expect it will he quoted me a rough estimate that was half of what another company quoted. I will definitely have them out for the future repair. Ed also gave me a fair estimate on how long the boiler will last and the potential issues with replacing it with a high efficiency system.
Description of Work: Serviced the boiler, bled radiators, examined circulator pump, pressure gauge etc.

We were having a problem cooling one of the rooms in our central airconditioned house. ECC showed up on time and quickly identified the problem. Another contractor gave us a song and dance about how we would have to replace duct work and add vents to fix the problem and it would cost 3000 dollars and take a couple of weeks. Then they pressured us to sign a contract (we did not). ECC fixed the problem in under a couple of hours without having to redo the ductwork or add vents at a cost a mere fraction of what the other company estimated. I'd call them again in a minute, but haven't had any other problems. Excellent work!

Initially, there was a gas leak from the house heater and ( for the purpose of safety) the gas company shut down service to heater; this occurred just before the new year. Needless to say, finding a repair person to service an older type heater was quite difficult so I joined Angie's List. I contacted a service provider from the list; however, he was booked and he referred me to East Coast Comfort. A service date was scheduled with East Coast Comfort. Tony and his staff arrived according to schedule (on time), found the location of the gas leak and determined the nature of the problem...then he explained it to me. Tony was able to order the parts and repair the heater within 3 hrs. Yes, I would use them again.

East Coast Comfort's representative was courteous, helpful, and flexible. He came to our house to provide an estimate for installing a Central Air / Heat Pump system which included adding new ducts (we have no existing ducts). He was able to accommodate our tight schedule by meeting with us on a Saturday. The representative took plenty of time to discuss our options and answer my questions well after the fact. He was able to offer us one of the best prices for a conventional system install (second only to a gentleman peddling bargain-basement products) and very narrowly lost out in our decision. We had decided to go with a High Velocity system, which they did not offer. Overall, I'd recommend this company.

PGW shut off my furnace (older gas/hot water system) after I reported to them smelling gas. The gas company told me I needed to have my furnace cleaned and a front temperature valve replaced or drained since it was filled with water. The first time I used East Coast Comfort was for a job on a rental property of mine and I didn't hesitate calling them again. The gas company shut off the heater on Saturday, ECC was able to get to to my place Monday morning to do the job. All the service men at ECC are very friendly, and very honest. They gave me an estimate on the spot, it sounded good, so they got started. I had to leave for work and wasn't concerned leaving the guys at my house to do the work. My dad is retired and stopped by the house shortly after I left for work to check on them and lock up after they were done. ECC is my go-to for any Heating/Cooling problems. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

All my experiences with East Coast Comfort were great. Helpful from the start. Immediately fixed one of my problems when they came out to do the proposal (fixed 3rd floor radiator by bleeding it - a different company had told me that I would need to do significant work to fix it). Offered me a simple yet effective solution. Work was completed in one day and they kept me updated about what they were doing. Overall, I was very happy with the work they did.

My husband was so impressed. The gentleman who came out was one of the owners. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. The service and the quality of his work was the best we have ever had.
