The whole project went pretty smoothly. Yes, there were some minor problems, but corrections were made immediately. Dan (the owner) went out of his way to please me. The only big problem I had did not involve them. The dishwasher leaked after it was installed. Turned out it was defective. dRemodeling uninstalled the defective dishwasher (the store refused to do it, because they didn't install it) & installed the replacement.
I would like to add that they tried to keep the rest of my place as clean as possible. At the end of the day, they always cleaned up any dirt made in the kitchen.
I now have a kitchen that I am really enjoying. I plan on using dRemodeling again to renovate my master bathroom.
"[Member Name Removed], We hope you have been getting great use out of your kitchen! It was a pleasure to work with you! Please feel free to contact us for any further home remodeling! Thank you! - dRemodeling Team"
We got cost estimates from 2 contractors that were very close, and we ended up choosing dRemodeling. To start, Dan came out to the house to measure the room and take pictures, and then shortly thereafter sent us quote with a range of prices depending on various options (based on what would be installed and the quality of materials to be used). Then, we talked to one of dRemodeling' s interior designers regarding layout and materials. We already know the materials we wanted to use (we were borrowing from a friend's project), and we worked with dRemodeling on the layout.
One of the things that impressed us the most about dRemodeling was the cleanliness of the work crew. Before starting any work (and any time they ever came to the house), the crew laid tarps covering any part of the floor that they would be walking on. The crew installed a sealed plastic panel over the bathroom door and draped the area around the door in plastic. During demo, everything was bagged in the bathroom before being carried out through the house. The plastic panel kept any mess contained to the work area. The crew always cleaned up after themselves, and we never had to clean up after dRemodeling. We took this for granted at the time, but we have since dealt with contractors (not dRemodeling) that have left us holding the (garbage) bag hours after the work was done and the crew had left!
Another thing that impressed us about dRemodeling is their willingness to do things right and take care of the job even after the job was over. For example, during the project, the vanity lights were installed upside down, which included patching the drywall and painting. We let dRemodeling know and they came out, cut new holes in the wall, flipped the lights, and patched the original holes no problem. After the job was done, the train-style towel rack was drooping. We had approved this item during the project, but it ended up being of poor quality. We ordered a new one, and dRemodeling sent their team out to install it no questions asked. (there are more examples, these are just two)
We are very happy with the way the project came out. These are the pictures: http://www.dremodeling.com/portfolio/Modern-Marble-Master-Bath-Retreat-/76/. The project was not cheap, but we did choose to use expensive materials (marble, tile, all glass shower enclosure, custom blinds, fixtures, etc), and we also had dRemodeling install an exhaust fan (there was no exhaust fan originally in the master bathroom) and replace and re-pipe an exhaust fan in the guest bathroom (this was the only thing dRemodeling did in our guest bathroom at the time). And we will always be willing to pay for excellent customer service, which we got from dRemodeling. The cost listed above is total project cost, that might not be the total cost paid to dRemodeling (hard to remember exactly after a year).
No contractor and no remodeling job is ever perfect, but all in all our project with dRemodeling was very positive, and over a year later we still love the bathroom - it might be our favorite room in the house! We would definitely recommend dRemodeling for a new bathroom.

Their office staff was very responsive & nice. I would not use their design services, though, as they don't think too hard about what they are doing and we would have been stuck with several bad decisions had we not hired our own designer. Once the job was done I got many follow-up and marketing calls / emails from them. I thought this was odd, because they never addressed the unfinished work or the work that I said was done poorly.
Dan came in with a competitive quote, which they quickly tried to increase when the work began (which isn't out of the ordinary).
He clearly sent his "B" crew to do the work. They were disorganized, unresponsive, and despite detailed plans & instructions, they constantly departed from plan.
They paid little attention to detail. A counter top was installed crooked (Dan informs me that this was done by a sub, not by them). New walls are noticeably not plumb or square. All trim & painting was very sloppy. They tried to re-install door trim that they chewed up when first removing. Tiles were installed crooked (and some patterned tiles installed in the wrong direction). Mis-measured fridge, so the opening left for it was too small. They tried to "patch" a hole from a closed off back-yard entrance with paneling that clearly didn't match. List goes on. Some got fixed. Most couldn't or didn't.
These items were all obvious & communicated to them regularly, but they just stopped showing up & responding. They didn't remove all their construction trash. They left a mess in the basement, including electrical wiring that they disconnected but did not remove. They even left some tools and supplies behind. I should have withheld final payment, but I just wanted them to get out oft there by the end.
Why only a C? They did get the job done, and I think I got what I paid for. I don't think you can dip below the median quote cost and expect to have the work done well. We are now doing another $70K worth of work on the house with another contractor, who is a bit more expensive, but the quality and communication is a world apart. That is why this review is so late - I logged in to leave a good review for the new contractor.
"I was surprised to see this negative review after two years after the work was completed especially because many of the issues that he mentions here were never communicated to us when we did the work and based on our records we addressed everything on client punch list. As a contractor and business owner I know that no matter how much you try, you cannot satisfy each of your clients. However I am happy to say that 99% of our completed projects are VERY satisfied with the dRemodeling experience – as you see from all the reviews we’ve had on Angie`s list or any other review site. I did contact the client after seeing this review and talked with him. I also want to clarify a few facts for Angie`s list users as I believe his review is not quite accurate. 1) Client said that he hire his own designer – and he does not recommend us for the design work – however for this project he did hire dRemodeling for design and he used our Licensed Register Architect + our kitchen designer and he purchased the cabinets from dRemodeling – Is true that during design process - he drawn up his own cabinet layout – and he sent us exact dimensions for cabinets, spacing, depths, heights and widths. He was very specific with what he wanted but also his design and requests caused issues in the cabinet layout and we had to modify many of the cabinets on jobsite to fit within space. 2) He is blaming us for the counters been crooked. We were not involved in the countertop selection or fabrication or installation. The only thing we did was send prices request to SEVEN local fabricators and presented all prices to client – and he ended up selecting the lowest price and we went with that company. 3) The job took longer than we originally estimated indeed but most of this was caused by a really bad winter. There was no access to the client’s home without the roads being plowed. Also while we were working, we had several power outages forcing us to not come to his project. Also, some of the materials that client ordered from internet were not on job site when needed. 4) Client is saying that we quickly try to increase our competitive price. This is misleading as the project cost increased because the client asked for additional work that was not in the scope of the work. Is been two years from the project and I do not remember all the aspects of this project but I looked at our emails and I do not have any records of the items he is mentioning here including in the final punch list that client sent ... After seen this review here I spoke with the Client and I will continue be in touch with him- We already offered to send a technician to check everything and if needed to send a team free of charge to address any of the issues he presented here. "Dear Client , - Even if you contacted us for a service that we do not offer unless is part of a complete kitchen project - I responded to 5 of your 6 emails giving you technical solutions and price ranges for the work you wanted. My time and expertise is VERY valuable however I was trying to help you to find the best solution FREE OF CHARGE. I responded to each of your questions and asked for more information when needed in order to HELP YOU . When you sent your last email I was in vacation - and I only seen your email when I got back in the office Your F review was posted within days from not hearing back from me - even if by that point I answer all your emails - and even with an F review that we did not deserve I did contacted you back to follow up and see what happen with your hood and if you managed to vent it outside . A word on Dan's materials suppliers and subcontractors. I was 100% happy with Craig Bickings the electrician; he is a class act. Dan's granite guy was the cheapest by far for the product I chose, which was a Caesar stone quartz product; the counters are flawless. Dan's carpet guy was the best value I could find; beating out Avalon flooring by a wide margin. Dan's custom shower glass guy was $400 cheaper than the next lowest bidder, all while providing thicker glass and better hardware. I have no doubt that if Dan recommends you use a certain person for work like this, that this person will be the best out there. Materials costs, as well, were cheaper than I could find by looking all over the internet and the city. Dan says he passes his discounts on to his customers and this is obvious, especially for the cabinets, marble, and hardwood I selected.
Other positive thoughts on the process: 1) Dan and his designers were very accommodating of my indecision. We worked through many floor plans and design ideas, not to mention material selections. The bathroom vanities were ordered and when they came I wasn't in love with the finish, so D.R. worked with the supplier to exchange for another product (no cost to me). 2) When the job was done, my punch list of finishing requests was lengthy and meticulous. Dan's workers came out multiple times to work on the list. In the end, everything looks great. 3) My budget got tight so I asked Dan to credit me back for painting the whole house, which he did and I did not think he credited me a below-market rate for that work.
Some negatives. 1) There were permit issues before the work started. The City Inspector put a stop work order on my property for not having the correct paperwork in place when work started. This caused a month's delay. Not a huge deal and likely par for the course when gutting a home in center city. 2) at times it was difficult to communicate with Dan. Phone calls were answered /returned around 50% of the time, though email replies would come quickly. 3) the cost reviews Dan sends were at times inaccurate and definitely not a good way to project for the total cost of a project as big as mine. Likely this is not a problem at all with a simple kitchen rehab. 4) Move in was delayed by a week because some necessities were not completed on time. That said, Dan's crew was working very hard to make my move in as painless as possible. 5) There were a few design elements that Dan's workers made executive decisions on which I didn't love; specifically the quality of doors purchased and the appearance of the stair railing installed. I would have preferred to make (or approve) those materials selections when needed.
In sum, I had a very good experience with D.R. In spite of some of the negatives mentioned, Dan was very cooperative in correcting any and all issues we came across as the project was being completed. Dan never avoided an issue if I raised it, and would make sure that issues were corrected before moving on. I approached this project never having done any rehab work before (this is my first home), and I believe Dan guided me through the project as well as could be expected. I would absolutely hire D.R. again for a job of any scale. Many thanks go to Dan and everyone involved - my home is truly beautiful and I know it will last for many years to come.
"Hello, and THANK YOU for this positive review on Angie’s List. This project was much larger and more complex than our average remodel, but with a lot of planning and coordination we are ecstatic to hear that you love the final product. It was great to work with you and we appreciate the feedback you provided. With any rehab project, you can expect issues to arise. Due to our experience working in the city of Philadelphia, we were able to anticipate many of these issues and resolve them before they became real problems however. We do our best to keep you (and in return, us!) happy and safe throughout the entire process. In regard to some concerns you mentioned: this is very helpful and I will make sure we learn and improve our services in the future based on your feedback. With almost every project there will be things that don’t go according to plan, but ultimately we always try to keep your interests in mind and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that you are happy with the finished product at the end of the project."
More recently, we brought Dremodeling back to renovate our master suite (bedroom and bath). This was a complete reno down to the studs (like the kitchen) but (unlike the kitchen - first floor) this suite was on the top floor of our standard row home. Again, we had plans drawn up prior but did use Dan's office to help us with some of the details, such as the bedroom built-in cabinets. Again, the result was exactly what we had wanted. And although the room being renovated was on the top floor, they took the time to set-up tarps every morning and took them down every evening prior to leaving, providing as little distraction into our lives as possible. And that brings up another point - we trusted these guys explicitly. They had a key to our house, did all their work while we were out of the house, and even worked while we were on vacation (they activated and deactivated our burglar alarm for us). Now that the job is done, we still call Dan for small issues that have come up - he always is responsive and efficacious.
We are looking at other parts of our house to redo and will certainly call Dan again.
"We are pleased that your second remodeling experience with us was a positive one! With any remodeling project, and any remodeling company, there will be some setbacks or issues to resolve. Our clients' peace of mind comes from their trust in dRemodeling to resolve the problem to the clients' utmost satisfaction. We do not quit until the job is completed to perfection."
Dan and his crew (Hi Cheyane) did an excellent job. I interviewed 4 contractors to finish my basement in my Philadelphia room home. Prices were all in the same ball park between 15-20K. Dan came out, took measurements, discussed my vision for the basement and promised to get back to me soon.
BIG PRO: DAN and his team always, always got back to me promptly whenever I called or left messages. One big pet peeve of mine is when you leave a message for a contractor and it takes them 3 days to return your call. You will never have that issue with DRemodeling. some one always got in touch with me with 24 hours of my question or leaving a message.
After getting back to me, I decided to go with his company based on him coming nearest to what I wanted for my basement. He probably was the 2nd highest in price but he was within my budget.
next I was introduced to the designer cheyane, she is the one who I had most direct contact with as she is the one who help with me picking out modeling, panels, paints etc. great service. Once again I felt she was patient and professional. I would call her all the time after visiting home depot and lowes with new ideas.
workers in the house were also great. respectful, courteous and willingly discussed any spur of the moment questions or concerns I had.
The only issue we had was toward the end, the carpet installer Dremodeling had was not the best, kept calling out for the schedule carpet installation. lol, Dan ended up using the installing that I had given him from the carpet store.
Next summer I'm continuing my home remodel with the kitchen. Dremodeling will be the first company I call

We had an empty space in our kitchen and an opportunity to add a breakfast bar on a half wall that separates the kitchen and dining room. Dremodeling used pictures and dimensions I sent them to procure a white floor cabinet that matches my other cabinets and they found a piece of butcher block for the top.
The wood came unstained which made me very nervous, but after a few very responsive phone calls from Dan the owner, he made me feel very comfortable with his team cutting and staining the wood. And, wow, was he right - his team did such a fantastic job cutting and staining, my kitchen looks amazing. His team also had to cut inside my half wall to add studs so they could add a counter top on the half wall -again, I was really nervous, but Dan's team are such experts and when they attached the wall back together, you couldn't even tell they had to cut it down.
I highly recommend dremodeling, so much that I have asked them for a quote to gut and install 2 new full bathrooms in my house. I trust them and they were very professional during each and every conversation.

"I am surprised to see a C-rating from this client when were willing to provide additional work in apologies for his lack of understanding of the take-away. This client purchased a $50/design deal from Angie's list. The deal was for 3D Renderings and cabinetry layout, as stated in the agreement. We met with them at our office (after-hours, as that was the only time they had available) and we spent a few hours to meet with them, listening their ideas and discussing the scope of the work. It turned out that they actually wanted to keep most of the cabinets and paint them, and they only needed help with the layout and how to incorporate new cabinetry with existing cabinetry that they were to paint. We worked with the client on this aspect of the project and provide them with two different design options with multiple 3D renderings in different color schemes/ material selections for each option. These design options were based on the discussion we had in office, along with inspiration images, and further correspondence between dRemodeling and the client. We spent 10-12 hours working on their project, but after our meeting, email exchanges, etc, we realized that the client's expectations were much higher than our $50 agreement included. We told him that if they want us to continue to work with our designer on their project, we would be happy to continue work under our standard design agreement (refundable if they wanted to purchase cabinetry/ labor through our company). Our client expressed his disappointment with us (not wanting to sign the agreement), feeling as though he was mislead. Although our terms were clear, we did offer the client one last additional revision at no charge, if he discussed with us exactly what materials he wanted to see in the final option. He did not respond to us following this offer. We are deeply sorry that we could not provide a satisfactory end result for this client, however we offered him much more than he originally paid for. At 10 hrs of work to complete his design options, ultimately he received $1000.00 dollars worth of our time, design ideas, and materials selection for only $50."

About 1 week later we were sent an email of design options.
Although we decided not to do the remodeling this experience was positive. Devin has a lot of enthusiasm and is very professional.

"Hello , First and foremost, we do appreciate you considering us for your basement project, as well as your honest feedback on Angie’s List. However, your review may mislead potential clients and we would like to clarify a few things as we do not take our reviews lightly. We have executed many projects under 10k in the past… If your impression was that we did not want to take on your project because the budget was not large enough, this was a misunderstanding we apologize if this was misinformed to you as it is untrue. Although, we are currently focusing more on kitchen, bath, and even basement projects that most importantly require our full design/build services as we have become increasingly busy in the past few months and unfortunately do have to pick and choose what jobs we can afford to take on. We make our decision based on our schedule, amount of work can be provided to all staff members, and of course profitability. As stated on our Angie’s List profile, we do not do the work that a handy man, or “one-man-van” operation may do. Also, we generally do not work with rental properties, insurance claims, small repairs, etc. as we do offer high quality complete renovation remodeling services and in most of these scenarios our skills and expertise are not required. Again, we would and have taken on jobs of your scope, but due to our current schedule we unfortunately cannot. I hope you can understand our current position, and we would like the opportunity to remedy your negative feelings towards our company. Thank you for contacting us, and although stated otherwise, we would appreciate your business in the future. Regards, The dRemodeling Team 4229 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia PA 19129"
"Thank you for A-rating of our company! It's our job to make sure that you receive exactly what you were looking for and I'm happy that we were able to save you some unnecessarily spend dollars! We look forward to the opportunity to work with you for your remodeling project."
"Thank you for taking time out of your day to write us an amazing review! We are thrilled to hear that your expectations were met, and that you are very happy with the end result! As a design/build firm, we try our best to focus on providing an aesthetic that pleases the customer, as well as an execution that will last. We thoroughly enjoyed working with you, and are glad to hear that you enjoyed working with us as well!"
"We really appreciate your acknowledgement of our hardworking installation team! It was a pleasure working with you throughout the project, and we are ecstatic to be able to transform your kitchen into a beautiful new space for you to enjoy. We hope you keep in touch, we loved working with you and hope to do so again in the future!"
"Thank you for the review of dRemodeling! We appreciate the honesty in your reply and acknowledge there is always some room for improvement. Ultimately we are pleased to hear that you recognize our strong desire to ensure all of our customers are happy with our service!"
"Thank you for taking the time to craft a great and thorough review for us! We appreciate your comments, and are glad to hear you are very happy with our work. Often customers have difficulty seeing the end result, which is why we are glad to provide out design services up front prior to committing to the construction- and, in your case and many others, it worked out for the best! We are thrilled to hear you are happy with your project, and are even more pleased to hear that you would consider us again in the future! We thrive to provide our customers a stress free process as possible, and are always happy to get great reviews from great customers!"
"I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to guide you through this kitchen remodel as your family continues to grow. It was the least we could do to provide you with a great price on cabinetry and installation. Your cheerful attitude throughout the project made this job that much more rewarding for us. I'm so excited for you to enjoy the new space!"
"Thank you for your honest review. We are sorry to hear that our estimate was out of your budget, and although we would love to be more flexible, we are a valued design build firm that prides ourselves on our design capabilities as well as our quality level of execution and craftsmanship. We would love to offer the price of a one-man-van operation, and are sorry our cost was out of your budget. We thank you for considering us, and wish you the best of luck with your project!"
