The washer had failed, so they took out the old one and put in a new one. It worked out great! They were really nice.

Overall, they were willing to work with me through the entire cycle. First, AJ Appliance came out to diagnose the problem to try to repair my existing washing machine. However, after trying to fix it was not working properly due to needing more expensive parts. Because the first fix did not work, AJ Appliance worked with me to reduce the cost of the washer I purchased and removed the old one.

From beginning to end from the phone call to service tech absolutely professional pleasant and honest.
They were not able to fix the issue in the first visit because they needed to order a part.. Once the part arrived the excellent service continued.
With a 90 day  guarantee I feel even more confident in the work of AJ's!I would recommend them to anyone who needs any type of appliance repairs.

I woke up this morning to find my kitchen floor covered in water that was leaking out from behind the fridge, and called AJ to schedule emergency service.  The woman on the phone was polite & professional, and the repair man was at my door on time, the same day.  He fixed the problem quickly, and even cleaned up behind the fridge for me so I didn't have to.  I was extremely pleased with the service, which was fast, & reasonably priced! I'll use them again the next time something breaks in my 100-year-old house.

Very well.  The representative needed details over the phone to help know what they needed to bring.  They actually were spot on with what they thought.  The repair was done quickly.  They also were great about answering questions we had prior to their starting the job.

They knew what I needed. They offered several selections based on newness and functionality ands price. They came to the house as planned, took apart the old washer, and hauled it out, and brought in the new washer and assembled it without problems.

My washing machine started smoking during the spin cycle. I'd tried to take it apart myself, but finally gave up and two of my neighbors recommended AJ Appliance, so I checked Angie's List and called them. They had an appointment in 3 days, which was perfect because I was off that day. I was told they would call that morning to give me a window of time in the afternoon, and sure enough at 9am I got a call saying they'd be out between 12-3pm (they service Center City in the morning, South Philly in the afternoons).
Michael showed up on time, walked right in, and found the problem within 5 seconds while I was still explaining what had happened.
There was a screw caught between the inner and outer tubs. 
He checked the belt, which had incurred some damage since the inner tub couldn't spin due to friction, and said it should be replaced and he had the part in his van. It was $20, and the service charge to come out was $70. He also answered several questions I had and reassembled everything I had taken apart, and was finished in less than an hour. All told with tax & labor, the cost was $113, and I was grateful I didn't need to replace my entire unit. 
I highly recommend AJ Appliance - I only took one star for price because while I felt the service was excellent, I also felt like I paid for it, which is fair, but not a deal. HOWEVER - it is completely worth it to me to pay a fair price for reliable service, without any sort of upselling or "extra" repairs.

Last month I purchased a stove from another company and it was a nightmare getting everything installed correctly, and I expected a similar experience with AJ's, but I didn't get anything like it!  They made everything very simple and gave great recommendations on what machines would suit my needs.

They were prompt, professional and honest. The tech figured out my issue and fixed it for the least cost possible. They are always good to deal with and fair. They call to confirm and show up on time.

The technician arrived on time, was able to immediately assess the problem and quickly went about resolving the issue related to the washer.  He was professional, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable.  I will definitely be using AJ Appliance again.

It was GREAT.  They tell you what the basic service charge will be when they schedule the visit.  They were able to schedule me for 2 days later.  They arrived in a timely way, fixed the problem, TOLD ME HOW TO AVOID THE PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE, cleaned up and were gone.  They are professional and pleasant.  In fact, they gave me a lead for a broken appliance that they do not fix.  I will definitely use them again and have recommended them to others.  This is our second visit and the experience was exactly the same as when they fixed our frig in June.

They are excellent. They are prompt and efficient, and it seems like their prices are reasonable. I have never really used anybody else for my appliance repairs but their prices seem reasonable.

Had a refrigerator go bad last night with about 140oz of breastmilk stored for my baby.  Obviously something that needed to be dealt with fast. Called AJ's first thing in the morning, left a message, received a call back within 30 minutes.  Had a tech in the area on another job.  Service person arrived by 11am.  
Clean, knowledgeable, professional, courteous and prompt.  He quickly diagnosed the problem and gave an estimate.  Issue was fixed within 45 minutes.  So far so good.I did feel it was a bit pricey.  
Replaced a fan motor which I priced same model on the internet for less than 20$.  45 minutes and 180$ later the issue was fixed.  I feel that was a bit steep but it got the job done when I was in a bind.

technician arrived well within time frame - knew exactly what problem was - cleaned panel but said it might need to be replaced - offered to get price for replacement & also for entire new microwave - if the problem occurs again, I will be able to decide my best option - Michael was very nice & extremely professional - an overall good experience!!!

When I called AJ Appliances at 9am, I spoke to a very nice woman who I explained my problem to and she said that she would have to see which technician was available and call me back as to a time frame that afternoon.  She called me back within 30 minutes and gave me a time frame of 2pm-5pm, also saying that someone would call me 20 minutes before arriving, so I could get home from work in time to open the door for the technician.  She also explained the pricing strategy ($90 to come out and do an assessment but that $90 would also cover parts and labor and all work was covered with a 90 day guarantee).  I got a call as stated (at 1:45) and the technician was at my door at 2:05pm.  He was able to access the problem, fix it, and then explain to me what had happened within 30 minutes (20 minutes to fix and 10 minutes to explain and take care of the payment).  They were really awesome and it saved me $1,500 in buying a new refridgerator!.

Responsive, showed up promptly, correctly diagnosed the dishwasher leak and provided a fix that has lasted for 4 years now.

Showed up on time.  Worked quickly and efficiently.  Got it done all in the same day.  Price was reasonable.  What else could we have asked for?

As always, they arrived on time and evaluated the problem quickly. We needed a part, which was available in a couple of days. As soon as it was it they came out and installed it. Friendly and professional service.

We have brand new tenants in our rental property in South Philly. We take pride in our property and work hard to find tenants who will take care of their new home. My husband and I spent quite a bit of time making sure the property was, clean, painted, and in general, wonderful, move-in condition.  We found the perfect tenants. As Murphy's Law would have it, the tenants moved in and then we got the phone call that the washing machine wasn't working.  Immediately I contacted the guy who takes care of our personal appliances to see if he was available to look at the machine. He said he didn't travel to South Philly. Not knowing where to go, I though Hmmm, I'll try that Angie's List that I've heard about. And so I did.  I called AJ Appliances.  We set up an appointment for the next day. The technician arrived on time evaluated the problem was confident he knew how to fix it but... where the machine was located was problematic.  The technician was not able to pull the unit out as a window sill and floor trim interfered.  My husband came down that night, removed the sill and trim.  The technician returned the next morning to  complete the repair. It was indeed the valve that he believed was the culprit. The tenants report that the machine is working beautifully. Thank you AJ Appliances and Thank you Angie's List

1. Call to get estimate:
We called to get an estimate for the service provided. The lady who answered phone asked me to provide the brand, model number and serial number of the dryer, and put me on hold. She then told me that the total charge for doing the job is $85. We accepted the rate and scheduled a date.

2. Surprised charge on service date:
The technician came on time and changed the opening direction of the dryer. But the cleaning job to clean the lint filter is not what I had expected that they would have tools to do a better job. But the technician did take out the part so that I can reach down to clean myself. While I was cleaning the filter itself, the technician answered my questions in regard to how to maintain the appliances. He is very knowledgeable. However, at the time of payment, he put down a charge of $110 plus tax instead of $85. He explained that $85 does not include any repair work, it is a standard service charge. I was surprised but feel that I should speak to the office directly to clarify on the over-charge.

3. Call to clarify the over-charge
It was a different person who answered phone when I called back. He said the $85 is a standard service charge for the service area, it covers only the technician come out to give an estimate of the job, they never give estimate over the phone because they do not know exactly how much the charge is until they see the job. When I mentioned that we've seen lower fees on Angie's List site for their services, he said they just raised rates last week. I wish they have explained how they charge when we first called. We would have had a chance to decide if we want to use their service. We are very displeased with the inconsistency between their estimate and the actual charge. 

Conclusion
We view our overall experience with this service provider as C. Although they are responsive and punctual, and their technician is very knowledgeable, their inconsistency in pricing estimate and actual charge affect adversely on their service quality and professionalism.

Arrived on time.  Couldn't fix it on 1st visit, had to order parts. Parts were replaced , diswasher fixed.  Did not clean up after themselves.
