I called Ab in a pinch - the contractor I'd booked to do the ceiling for a large rehearsal studio just never showed up.
Ab happened to be in the neighborhood on another jobsite, so he was able to come by quite quickly.
He did a super thorough and realistic evaluation of the project, offered me a real number right then and there, and really impressed me with his knowledge, his competence and his thoroughness.
I weighed his bid against another bid for all of an hour, and texted him that night. He was able to pull a crew together in time to be here this morning.
The job is halfway done already, and these guys are killer - detailed, clear, focused, and doing a heroic work on a really difficult ceiling. I'm providing all of the materials - so the $2300 is a straight labor number - Ab and his team are doing amazing work. I'll follow up when the finish work is done, but I'm so impressed already that I wanted to write in right away.
