Auto Insurance

On 03/08/2014 our debit card was stolen. It was late Saturday afternoon when we realized this and went to our bank to report it. Out of our minds that someone was going to clean it out and leave us with nothing. We are on a fixed income and have little room for extra expenses. We were informed it would take 5 to 7 business days to receive our replacement card.
On 03/09/2014, was our scheduled auto pay for 21st. Century in the amount of $143.22. This was on a Sunday and when they went to process the payment it was declined. Normally when a transaction occurs over the weekend it will not appear on line until the following Tuesday. On Tuesday 03/11/2014 I check on line with my bank to see if our insurance payment was made. Thinking that it came directly from our checking account I was mistaken. It comes off of the Debit Card which was canceled. I called 21st Century right away and was told no problem I just need to send in $311.00 by the 03/26/2014 because our account was in CANCELLATION. I could not believe my mind. I told them I did not have that much but I could pay the $143.22 and could give them a check over the phone and was told that they could not accept a check over the phone and it would have to be for $311.00 which was for two months not the one and then for a bank charge and a cancellation fee. I asked for a supervisor and was told the same thing and that was all that they could do. I completed the survey at the end of the session and because it was so negative that I got a call back a few days later.
The lady who called me back told me all of the same things except if I were to go to my bank and have them write a letter explaining the loss of the card and fax it to them that they might be able to accept the $143.00 . It just so happens that the day before I got the call from customer service that I received our new debit card. At this time it is 03/18/2014 ten days have past. I am on the phone with Geico setting up payments for a new policy which was giving me better coverage at a cheaper price. The phone rings and it is 21st Century and they want to accept my $143.22 payment. I told them that they should not have made me jump through hoops and do a song and dance for them and that they waited to long I had found someone else. So now they send me a bill for $70.44 For what I do not know. I am not going to pay it and they can get in line with everyone else that wants money. They should pay me for what they put me through. I have a bad thing happen and loose my debit card then get beat up and insulted by my car insurance. What a wonderful world.
