Heat Pump - Install or Replace

A great company, from the estimate to the install they were on time, informative and very professional. I really think I could not have found a better group of professionals to replace my current heat pump and air handler. Kudos to this company, I highly recommend you give them a shot at your HVAC needs. If their service is as punctual and professional as they have been for the install, I'm not sure you could find a better fit. Thank you Air Systems Mechanical and please say thank you to your team of guys for me who installed my system, they were outstanding! I found my go too for all my HVAC needs.

Heat Pump - Install or Replace

Air Systems Mechanical has cost me over 1000 hours of sleep. I hired them to install a brand-new top of the line heater 3 years ago and there have been noise and vibration issues since the day it was installed. The equipment has been blamed from the beginning. They tried to solve the problem for around a year and made no progress. I got a call from Sam the owner, and he basically told me to take my business elsewhere. I brought up online reviews, and he agreed to continue troubleshooting. Various other steps were tried with no success. The manufacture sent a field rep and an engineer to check the equipment and even replaced the outdoor unit. The noise and vibration remained. Around the 3-year mark Air Systems Mechanical decided to walk away and leave it as my problem. In my last phone call with Sam he called me a difficult consumer, told me not to bother him anymore, and hung up on me. I was left with two apparent but equally unacceptable options. I could either learn to live with very little sleep in the winter or trash the system I just finished paying off and buy something else. I scoured the internet looking for a third option. Finally, I came across an installation manual for the unit posted by a HVAC company in Texas. I noticed several discrepancies between the manual and the actual installation. I emailed Sam and his service manager to let them know and offered to remove my negative reviews if they could rectify the situation. My email was ignored and used against me in one of their replies saying something about giving into my demands. Next I posted excerpts from the installation manual and what I found with the actual installation. In attempting to refute me online and telling me everything that they had done correctly they unwittingly led me to what I believe is the root of the problem. The PVC pipe that runs through the concrete block to connect the outdoor and indoor unit is completely loose in the wall. They claim it was sealed with mortar and silicone when the unit was installed. I have provided pictures and it is obvious this was not done. It looks like the original sealant from when the house was built 30 years ago with big gaps between the PVC and concrete. I now know this is what is referred to as system isolation. It is explicitly stated in the installation manual that this needs to be done properly to alleviate sound and vibration transmission. I am confident correcting this will solve the problem. I will update once I know for sure. Air Systems Mechanical has responded to all my posts with lists of reasons why the noise and vibration issues are not their fault. What they have not done is addressed the lack of proper system isolation (as described in the manual) and explained why the PVC (as shown in the pictures) was not secured and sealed correctly when the system was installed. At this point any response from them other than an apology and an offer to rectify this is just further evidence of how far they are willing to go to shirk responsibility and try to cover up their mistake.   All the employees I worked with at Air Systems Mechanical were extremely friendly and professional. They were so focused on a system issue I can almost forgive them overlooking this installation issue. The way however I have been treated by Sam the owner is inexcusable.
Response from Air Systems Mechanical Contracting, Inc.

"Our technicians have visited your home on numerous occasions for noise complaints. We have brought both the field service reps from Trane and American Standard and an engineer from Ingersoll Rand to evaluate the system (on more than one occasion). They found that there were no issues with the installation that was completed by our company and that the unit was operating according to their specifications. On the second visit with the Trane reps, they agreed to provide a new outdoor heat pump unit to replace the original unit. We came back and installed a brand new heat pump. On every visit to his home, he was not charged for our services. This includes all the visits after his labor warranty expired and the replacement of the original heat pump with a new unit. After replacing the original unit with a new unit, you are still unhappy with the operating noise of the unit. This is an issue with the Trane product, not our installation. Unfortunately, we are the installer of the Trane heat pump unit, but not the manufacturer. We have done everything the Trane has asked us to in regards to his unit. You are correct that we have quoted your own words that had previously been sent to us in emails where you agreed that Trane was at fault, yet you refuse any assistance from Trane. I contacted the Trane customer relations rep and she informed me that you have decided to decline any assistance from Trane and the case has been closed. I am not sure why you would decline assistance from Trane. They are the manufacturer of the unit and your issue is with the operating sound of the Trane heat pump. The operating sound of the unit is out of our control. If you feel the unit is abnormally loud, your complaint should be filed against Trane, not our company. In regard to the 2014 installation manual that you are quoting (your unit was manufactured in 2017 and that manual would not have been the one that was current at the time of installation), of course we bother to look at the installation manual that is provided for the units. Every manual Trane produces for an outdoor unit has a section that is entitled ?location considerations.? It states to not locate outside of a bedroom as sound may be objectionable. In regards to your house, the right and back of the house is surrounded by a paved driveway. The back left corner is your bedroom and the unit is installed in the middle on the left side of the house. We installed the unit in the same place that your old unit was located and this location was discussed during the sales process. Your lineset is isolated with a PVC wall sleeve, it was not attached to any joist, nor does it touch any framing. The wall penetration was made through concrete block with only one 90 degree bend in the line set after wall penetration (not 3, long sweep bends made in copper with a tubing bender are not considered 90s). Your last email to the owner stated that if we give in to your demands, then you will go back and remove all of these reviews. Our company has done nothing wrong and has only tried to help you. Sam never hung up on you and told you to stop bothering him. We have responded to all of your reviews and complaints with our version of the events. Not deceit, not ?false narratives.? Just as you are free to post these reviews attacking our company and the owner of the company, we are free to respond back with what we have done on our end. We did not manufacturer the unit and is unfair that you are refusing to hold Trane accountable for their product and trying to pin this back on our company. The installation was completed properly, as per Trane. We have done nothing wrong in this situation except refuse to give in to your demands, as you are directing them at the wrong company. The unit heats and cools properly and has no known issues with operation. We are very sorry that you are unhappy with his Trane heat pump noise"

I have had air systems mechanical install my high efficiency furnace few years ago and recently install my central air. Their prices are lower than the rest. They are always courteous and professional from salesman to office staff. I have nothing negative to say. Always on time for routine furnace tune up appointments. A great company to deal with.
