A representative came to our house and evaluated the damage and amount of work needed. He promised a quote would be sent later that evening. When I did not receive a quote, I called him and left a message on his voicemail. I never from him or from the company . again. I assume the job was too small for them to do profitably. That's OK, but it would have helped me to know that so I could immediately seek another service. Failure to respond is discourteous and it delayed my efforts to get this remediation done.

No show / no call for estimate. Very disappointed.
Response from Groundworks

"We are so sorry for the negative experience- we strive to provide the best in customer service. According to our system- we have your info but did not have an estimate scheduled. Is there any way we can make an estimate appointment for you in the future? Sorry again for the mixup, I know there was an extreme weather event and we had a huge volume of calls. I'm not sure what happened as I don't have estimate scheduled but it could have slipped through the cracks and we apologize."

This wasn’t our best experience. We were having a problem with our sidewalk leading up to the entrance of our house. The slab closest to the porch had sunk about an inch on one corner and was funneling rainwater down to the basement. We contacted four contractors about this problem and decided that concrete leveling was a less expensive solution than replacement. We chose BQ Basement Systems based on their reviews on Angie’s List and their 10-year warranty. The sales rep was polite and recommended leveling the front walk, the sidewalk by the garage, and our front porch. The front walk and garage sidewalk were incorrectly pitched toward the house but we don’t know why the front porch needed leveling. They were also going to caulk several of the sidewalk joints. The leveling process definitely corrected the problems we were having with the sinking concrete and water in the basement. But the workmanship was shoddy and the cleanup afterwards was unacceptable. Some of the holes they drilled were not filled level with the rest of the sidewalk. They dripped some of the chemicals all over the front sidewalk. We realized later that these chemicals stained the sidewalk and cannot be removed. They also managed to spray some of the foam into a flower bed and onto our vinyl siding, again difficult to remove. We ended up calling them 5 times to come and remove the stains and the foam. They did show up but they were completely unsuccessful in resolving the problems. We were able to remove the foam from the vinyl siding ourselves but the stains remain. So now we have level concrete with unsightly stains and it looks horrible. Avoid using this company.

We hired BQ to install French drain, trench drain, sump pump and flooring. On the day the job was finished my husband and I go look at everything and realize they never installed the trench drain after they told us they did. If we did not know anything about the work we were having done we would of never noticed it not being installed. I called our sales manage and he said they would be in the next day to install it. I take off work to be there and waited all morning, I call BQ to find out they can’t come, again no one called me I am calling them. They will call me back when they know what day, a week goes by and I am told they are installing it when the floors are. Two weeks later they install the flooring and the trench drain. From that point on, we have gotten water in our basement three times. First time, the sump pump was not installed correctly, second time water came through our floors and they added a bi lateral drain and third the trench drain did not work properly causing water to build up outside and come through our door. I am very disappointed on how they treated us considering this is a family business. We wrote a letter to the owner and never heard back. Joe V., the general manager received the letter and spoke with the owner and our sales manager and we were told “from their perspective, everything was fixed and they do not owe us anything”. This job started in February and still not done. I would recommend some training in customer service and installation in projects due to the reason we got water was because their products were not installed correctly. In addition, if this is how a company speaks to their customers, no one deserves that disrespect, especially from there general manager and owner.
Response from Groundworks

"Hi [Member Name Removed], We strive to provide a great customer experience and provide answers and resolutions for every customer every time. We are sorry that you have had a negative experience with BQ, and I know we have been out to your home several times to resolve the trench drain by the back door and to address the window. Our owner Brian Quinn left a message for you and would like the opportunity to speak with you personally. The team is anxious to see if there is anything else we can do to help earn your trust back in BQ. On a separate note, we recommend maintenance to your sump pump and drainage system and we are happy to schedule that at no charge to you. I hope to hear from you, please give me a call- my name is Margaret Mustin 215-233-5107. Thank you."

Had used BQ to address a mold issue a couple of years ago. Initial installation of de-humidifier system was sloppy---tubing was hanging; not well done. Dealt with management to have another installer come out and fix the installation, which was then done properly, and they did give a followup maintenance service without charge to compensate for the problem installation. HOWEVER, we recently had water in a small area of the basement. We had a trench and sump pump installed years ago, which were all working properly. Salesman came out and without making any attempt to determine the cause of the leakage, tried to sell us a new trench @ $10,500, even though we already had a working trench. We used a competitor, who diagnosed the problem as a window well and glass block issue, not a trench and sump pump problem. We spent far less money, and resolved the problem, using the competitor. If we had gone with BQ's new trench, that would not have resolved the problem since the existing trench was working fine and not causing the problem. I tried to speak with Brian Quinn, owner, and was only able to reach a manager, who was just defensive.

Very poorly overall. I recommend a high degree of caution in selecting to use BQ Basement’s services. There are many other alternatives for important basement work to be done. In the summer of 2017, BQ was hired to complete basement outside coating and seal work at my residence. Since the work was completed, BQ has acknowledged that they did not have the right experience for the work and the person hired by them only had done one similar job previously. In some places, the work is now cracking and deteriorating. We have reached out to BQ openly in good faith since August of 2018 for remediation of the situation – to make the poor workmanship right. Since early November of 2018, BQ has disengaged from the situation. Our only desire has been for BQ to take one of the following corrective actions: (1) fix the issues themselves, (2) subcontract out the remediation work, or (3) refund the cost of the work done. This case calls into question the organization’s integrity; long-term quality and dependability of work completed; and business and communication practices when issues are identified.

these were 2 separate jobs done several months apart. the first job of 2 pumps went extremely well. They re-dug out 2 pump pits and put sealed units and ran pipes out. All done perfectly. The window well system took a long time to schedule, which although I was getting impatient, I understand this was a busy year for this type work. However when they came out the job was done incorrectly the first time with several miscommunications . However, I admire companies that stand behind their work and strive to make the customer happy. Thanks to Dina and Gia at BQ they sent a crew back out to fix the deficiencies and they did the job right and to my satisfaction. With any job, occasionally things wrong, but standing behind your work and having integrity and good customer service is the key for me and that is why I would highly recommend them.

They tentatively diagnosed on the phone and were here the next day. The repair was done that day. They showed me the problem and fixed it and made suggestions to avoid future problems of that nature.

Proprietary products only, simplistic approach and very pushy sales people made for a less than stellar experience.
Response from Groundworks

"Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value all of our feedback and use it to learn and grow as a company. We apologize for your experience with our representative. He has been with us for almost 15 years and is one of our most recommended inspectors, but we are sorry your experience did not meet expectations. Most of our patented products come with lifetime warranties and we feel responsible as a company for every basement we work in, so we recommend the safest protection for our homeowners, since it is our company and reputation on the line and we are the folks you would call if you ever had a problem. May we please send out our manager Sean to meet with you to re-visit the proposed solution? It's our goal to provide our homeowners with a positive experience and we would greatly appreciate a second chance to make a great first impression. Thank you again."

Job went Very well. They came quickly and didn't try to sell any mold removal which costs $0000's and did the job at a reasonable price. Had it done in the fall and no water since! Highly recommend! Had I known I would have done it much sooner.

This was a great breath of fresh air! Truly wonderful. Dan was incredible. He checked everything thoroughly, every crack was inspected and every concern was addressed. He was professional, friendly and knew what he was doing. He didn't try to sell us anything that we didn't need. He gave us a list of items we could do to make the space more waterproof, like caulking around the bottom of our double doors. He also suggested that we keep an eye on the cracks and take photos to document if the cracks spread. He was happy to hear that we were very happy with his inspection. This was the best free estimate we've ever received. He didn't try to sell us anything. He mentioned that they had a dehumidifier that is also an air purifier and would likely help with my allergies. So, if the other dehumidifier ever breaks, I know where I'm headed to buy a new one! Dan is part of a company that is extremely professional. They sent out a letter prior to our appointment to introduce Dan to us. It had his photo, a bio and even listed his family member's names. I felt like I knew him even before he showed up. This is a great way to do business. They even sent a book on basements that went into great detail about what could go wrong and how they can fix it. I enjoyed reading the book. I learned more about basements than I ever thought possible. I can't recommend them enough. If you ever have a basement water issue - CALL DAN at BQ Basement Systems! He'll provide you with the facts, truth and nothing less, or in my case nothing more!

The salesman, front desk, workman, and owner all showed courtesy, professionalism, knowledge of their product, and stood by their work. The project went very well, and my home's integrity has been permanently restored with less cost and none of the mess and hassle that other solutions would have involved. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Extremely well! We were quite dubious that the tilting process would be successful especially without cracking the one 12' section. When drilling the dime sized holes, the crew discovered that the ground had settled up to 1' beneath the slabs since the pool installation 18 years ago. We were lucky that more damage had not occurred. The PolyLEVEL is guaranteed for 10 years, the sealant may need to be reapplied in the future. Brian and Josh were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly as they explained exactly what and why they planned doing for each step. They arrived on time, having called previously that morning to say they were on the way. At the conclusion of the work, they completely cleaned up the area. In a day or two, I doubt that the cement covering the small holes will be noticeable. We had been a bit concerned that the joint sealant would be unsightly...however, they use a tan product that blends in fairly well with the cement color. Working with BQ Basement Systems has been a positive experience from the first representative who came to see the project and discuss the recommended work. The office calls a few days ahead of the appointment as a reminder and to confirm the date. The cost was more than we had thought it would be, but the end result appears to be worth it!

It wasn't waterproofing the basement. I had a particular malady in the basement causing water to come in. It was a repair of the area and waterproofing that area. The gentleman was very professional. He gave me an approximation of what the job would cost. There was an anomaly that we sort of threw in that he couldn't give me a price on and he had to go back to speak with his manager to give me a specific on what I wanted to do. They show you the specific products they use and how they would do the job. It was very thorough. They were pretty on top of their game. They offered me suggestions as to what route I could go. They fulfilled what I was looking for. The suggestion for a sump pump was more expensive than the company I went with. They are independently run and their system was more complex and that's why it was more expensive. I had to determine the best way that I needed to go. Their work was above and beyond what I needed. Their price was fair.
