We had used Closet By Design at our prior residence and were very happy with the overall design.  Upon moving, we decided to get bids again from a few different vendors, including Closet By Design, for our walk-in Mater Bedroom Closet.  For this project, we again worked with designer Wendy Fooks.  Wendy is very professional and pleasant to work with.  She arrived on-time and was prepared with design ideas and product samples.  She remembered our prior closet and was able to replicate and expand on everything we wanted to incorporate in our new project.  The overall price was comparable to the other vendors we got quotes from.  Installation was scheduled for about 2-months out.  We received a call from the office about a week prior to the install to confirm the date and time window, along with a follow-up reminder the day before install date.  Overall, we love our closet design?s functionality, storage space and lifetime warranty.  We would recommend considering Closet By Design for future projects.

Before work began, they took measurements of the two closets we wanted them to work on. Computer generated schematics were provided with several different design options. Their work was done in a professional way with excellent results.

Designer, Diane Shields contacted me very quickly and arranged a time to meet at my home which was under rehab from top to bottom. She was very friendly, knowledgable and showed me many different designs for the bedroom, coat, laundry and linen closets. She made detailed drawings and should various samples of material they use. She quoted package prices and individual prices for all closets. We agreed on just doing the bedroom closets for now. Her designs changed over and over to meet my own idea and needs. She did an excellent job. She left me with ideas for the other closets in the house for the future.  I was not aware that the company was not responsible for the demolition of the closet systems in place because home was older then 1972. I do wish they offered this service but it became a project of my own to removal old shelves,  risers, patch and painting. I almost hired a handyman for this part of the project but understood it was contacted to federal lead paint dust etc laws. I got through the old closet removal.
The friendly techs who installed the new system were very careful to create a great job on the closet system.  Very clean, beautiful job and in detail instructions for changing things around in the closet and maintenance . No mess or cleanup. Great guys!
After living for a fews months with the closets I saw I could reconfigure some of the shelves and need to purchase an additional shelf which was so easy to do by contacting Diane the designer who had the additional shelve here in a few days for a very low price..
I did buy the closet by design system through Home Depot store because I was afraid of small contractors. In the future I would just call the Closets by Design company with out going through Home Depot because they were so outstanding. There are also many coupons floating around in home improvement direct mailers and local coupon packages which I used and they were glad to accept.
I did research very local companies off Angies List in my direct area but they were slow to respond to my request to get quotes and their projects amounts seemed so high compared to what I had done.

Wendy the sales rep came to house to take measurements and explain the product, the service and options.  Very friendly and service oriented.  Scheduled installation a month down the line. Office called and offered to fast cycle install for holidays. Installers came on time.  Knowledgeable and very efficient.  Laid down floor covers before bringing in their equipment. Completed install of walk in closet components in about 4 hours.  Cleaned up after themselves.  Very pleased with the service, quality of the product, and price.

Everything was explained by the sales rep but wow it was a hard sell.  I had read other reviews and was ready for it but they were very persistance.  In the end I went with them as I thought the drawers were thicker than the competition but later on found out it was an option and I was a little mislead.  I had to wait a while for installation (about a momnth) and the installers were very polite and clean.  Unfortunately they added the extra filler on the wrong side so the drawers hit ,y door jam when pulled out all the way.  Getting Closets By Design to agree to come out to fix it was very difficult and in the end it was faster buying a $200 saw and fixing it ourselves.  A little disappointed in their lack of follow through.  Since then I have found a great carpenter in Lancaster who does all wood, custom for about half the price.  I have been using him for my subsequent and much larger projects and I have been much happier.

The technician arrived on time and worked until the closet was finished. all seemed to be fine, and he left. when we looked at it later, we realized that there  were a few scratches on the material on one of the new doors. I spoke to the  designer who was coming to take pictures for her portfolio (with my permission). She saw the scratches  and said she would take care of setting up a repair. this did not happen. when I called customer service about a month later, they did send  someone out . The scratches could not be fixed so a new door was ordered. Because no one checked the new door before coming, it, too, was scratched and another door was finally put in and was fine.
Those circumstances were why I did not award this company an A grade. It took to long to address my problem. Otherwise I was satisfied with this company

We e-mailed the firm to obtain an in-person meeting and it quickly responded.  Marcia, our designer, came to our house and worked closely with us to create designs that met our needs, wishes, and budget.  She was quite thorough and after several hours, we agreed on the designs.  She was able to accommodate potential snags regarding poorly placed light switches and an access panel to the roof.  After she left, she did call us twice to clarify our wishes and make sure the design continued to reflect our needs.  The only negative would be that it did take about six weeks from the creation of the design to installation.  Because all elements were custom made and measured, the wait was reasonable.  Of course, that gave us time to patch the walls and paint the spaces the firm would be working in.  The installation was scheduled to take three days, but Bryant and Richard finished the job in two. The installers were polite, professional, punctual and very concerned about keeping our house clean and dust free.  We are extremely happy with the results.

We were in the process of downsizing, going from a large home with 12 closets to one that had only 4.  Our old master bedroom had two large closets, plus a good sized closet in the master bath. The new master has a decent size walk-in closet. Our new hall closet was about half the size of our new one.  We also had a large pantry and a number of cabinets in our former mudroom.  The items in the mudroom and laundry room would now have to be stored in a laundry room half the size of our former space. We honestly felt we would have to get rid of a lot of clothes and miscellaneous items.  To help us solve the problem, we got four quotes from closet design folks.  Most were in the same ballpark for pricing.
Closets By Design earned the business by coming up with a great design, excellent construction, and the thoroughness of their rep, Wendy Fooks.  Wendy pointed out that CBD places the weight of their cabinets rests on the floor and is not suspended on the walls.  Wendy came to our home, measured our clothes, and came up with ideas that others did not think of.  As a result, we are able to store everything and more with our new closets and cabinets.  The installation was very professional and neat.  We would use these folks again in a heartbeat.

The designer Marcia was very nice.  I knew what I wanted and she worked with me.  The appointment did not take long since I told her what I needed, she measured the closet , did a drawling and then while she did the pricing I looked at her book.  The price started out over $2K but if I dismantled the old closet, that took money off along with me painting the wall instead of using their back board  and going with white instead of wood color also saved money.  I did not want the nice trim at the top since I was going to be storing items there so that added saving.  The final total was $1600 but if I signed that night it would be $1400.  I thought about it, the pictures looked nice but with my daughter getting married and all I wanted to see what it would cost to do it our self from Lowes and Home Depot.  I liked the dark wood look from Lowes and thought maybe we could do this but was concerned because my husband is not very handy.  While trying to decide what tyo do Marcia emailed me stating that there was March madness and if I ordered by the end of the month that the price would drop to $1030.  SO I thought ok, I will do it.  I was so excited.  I worked each night after work pulling out the old selves and clothes hanging poles.  Spackled the walls, sanded and then painted the walls red, which I thought would look great with white.
The installers came on time, they were very nice, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves.  The white looked awesome with the red walls behind.  Now for the negative.  I was very disappointed when I saw holes in the wood all the way down in the double hang areas making the entir unit look cheap.  I would expect holes in the shelving unit so that you can adjust the shelves or add shelves but not in the areas where you hang the clothes.  Marcia never told me it would look like this, the pictures never showed that and I guess it is because they are not that close up.   For the amount of money they charge you would think that this area of the closet would be solid without the double rows of holes, which would give it a more finished look.   I am glad I did not pay $1600, because looking at the unit I question if it is worth $1000.  I do like the wood all around the bottom.  If it holds up and last for the next 25 years then I say it was worth it.  Next time I will ask to see   things in person and not just pictures.  Overall It looks like good quality wood and put together well, the holes just give it a cheap look, glad not too many people are see my closet

*Update*
Marcia called me when she recieved my review back to the company and asked about my displeasure. I told her of my surprise. She stated she thought she told me since that is her usual practice. I know it is something I would remeber . She stated some people like to change it up and want to put shelves in the area at a later date. What did impress me was she asked what could she do to make me happy? I liked that and what that does tell me is that this is a company that will work with you to provide good customer service and stand by their product. I did not make the complaint to get money back, like I told Marcia I was surprised and felt it was not worth the amount i paid after reviewing the finished product. But if it is built well and last I will be very happy. I have looked at a few other closets since and must say they also have the double row of holes but my closet does look better built. So I am happy with it and would use this company again. I was impressed with their quick response to my concern and wanting to make me happy.

Lisa came to our home several months ago to measure the space and listen to our needs. She did a great job designing a plan on the spot and helping us choose materials. Although I liked the plan and quality, I was hesitant to sign the contract without consulting with other companies because the initial price seemed high. However, after I got some other quotes, I spoke with Lisa again and we were able to negotiate a very fair price that matched the competitors (but with better quality). About 4 months later, Nigel and A.J. came to install our cabinets. Everything was done from scratch--there were no pre-made units, which was wonderful. They were extremely professional, knowledgeable about the product, and able to fix "problems" easily. We were thrilled when they finished ahead of schedule and left the area cleaner than when they came. Having them in our home (with 2 kids, 1 dog, and extended family visiting) was easy and stress-free. I would strongly recommend them to others and would not hesitate to use this company again.

The quote was for $6400. I liked what they provided in terms of the quote. I liked the designer who came out. She was very professional. I liked the design that she came up with. I was a little concerned about the company based on the recommendations they had received. Their parent company had recently declared bankruptcy. So, I decided not to use them. The quote was for designing and supplying all the components, and installing the closet components on three walls of a large walk-in closet. The process went smoothly. The solutions I ultimately decided on were a lot more flexible. So, I used another company for the job. I will not use this company in the future as I have already made the decision regarding the closet system I want. I would recommend them, though.

We had an unusual space under the eaves near our bedroom remodeled, and knew that it would be hopeless to design a closet until the walls were moved. So we were closet-less when we called. The rep came promptly, was very pleasant and professional. She pressed us to schedule the job, but we insisted on a firm quote and plan 1st. She delivered the plan within a few days - always meeting with us in our home after work, to accommodate our schedule. I remember being impressed with her professionalism and with the long hours she must put in. The plan was reasonable, but a little strange (more because of the space than anything else), but we felt that it was just too much money, and said that we wanted to explore other options. We also told her that we were quite concerned about what we read about Closets by Design nationally, where the problems tend to be reported at the installation step. She assured us that this was not the situation locally, which may be true. Then she really tried a hard sell, and made us seem like we had wasted her trip (though she was never unpleasant). Really, though, she was just delivering the quote. We felt no obligation to buy. We ultimately did the closets ourselves using the ELFA system. Truthfully, it was not that much cheaper, but we are happy with it. We have become really tired of companies who have a very professional sales person, and then different installers with whom you may or may not have problems. When we hit the hard sell part, we felt like we had been down that road before and wanted to go another way.

Salesperson came to the house on June 1 and went over what we wanted?redoing three bedroom closets and creating a fourth?then spent a couple of hours designing and pricing out the options. We decided against creating the fourth closet, paid a 50% deposit on June 15 and were scheduled to have the work done on July 15. An opening for June 25 came up and we elected to have them come out that day. We were told they'd arrive between 8:30 and 10:00 am. Two workers arrived at 9:00 and completed the work early in the afternoon. They were friendly and very professional. The closets look great, were exactly what was promised. I signed for the 50% balance due to be charged to my credit card and OKed that no damage had been done and that work was completed as specified. Clean-up was 99% completed, which I didn't notice till later, with only a couple of screws, a piece of wood and some sawdust left behind on the carpeting. I'm not really sure if the price was good or not. We got a $200 discount with a coupon that came in the mail.

Horrible. The quality of the materials is OK, and what I expected for the price I paid. The designer was a good saleswoman, and designed a closet that fit my needs. However the installation was a complete disaster. When the installers took out some existing shelving, they made two holes, which were left unpatched. One hole was 3-4 inches in length! I sent a note, and had to send a picture of both holes to prompt an appointment to fix. The installers , when they came back; were tude to my mother, and left their cutting trash in my trash can (they didn't do this for the installation). However, the fix knocked the system out of square, and the drawers didn't open. Finally on the third time, the installers got it right... Bad news, bad response; go with a competitor. I paid too much to be treated the way I was.
