Our plumber described what was needed in each step and was thorough in completing all of the work. Three visits were required, but we are very happy with the results. There were no extra charges for the extra work required.
Description of Work: Replaced original basement sump pump and installed a battery back-up sump pump, cleaned out the sump pit, upgraded the associated piping and the original rusted check-valve. All work was done during a dry spell, so we had to use the garden hose to to fill the sump and test everything. We were in great shape for the East Coast rain storms and flooding that came later in the summer! The plumber also replaced two leaking shower valves in the bathrooms and came back to make further improvements until the leaks were completely stopped.

From our very first contact with Carney via their website and Nichole Ryan to our initial planning meeting with Don Wagner, to the plumbing overhaul by Keven Lanigan and his team, to the HVAC installation by Jimmy, Rich, and crew, our experience with Carney has been absolutely first-class. Carney took the time to understand our unique problem and our priorities, engaged exactly the right specialists in a timely manner, presented an accurate, appropriate, and thorough proposal, and executed the work with the very highest quality. Each member of the team was an absolute delight to work with, and they became welcome guests in our home for the duration of the work. Not only was their work outstanding, they also took the time to keep us informed and left our home each day as clean as it was when they entered; this is no small feat given the scope of the work performed! We have been so pleased with Carney's work that we will now be having them undertake a remodel of our first-floor bathroom.
Description of Work: Carney completely re-plumbed our first floor to bypass a slab leak, then installed a completely new HVAC system to replace our 55-year-old in-floor radiant heating system.

We had a bad experience initially. We were told on the phone that the service call minimum was $50 which we agreed to. The tech arrived on time but informed my wife that the minimum for the water softener diagnstic was $250. The owner of the company got involved when we complained. He said the first tech made a mistake and sent a different guy out to the house at no cost to us to diagnose the unit. We ended up buying a new unit from Carney. The worlk was done very professionally and we are compltetely satisfied. It was clear to me that Carney ppumbing takes ciustomer service seriously. I would recomend them witoiut hesitation.

Response from Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling
Unfortunately, I agree with the member. It was in fact a bad experience. Our service call fee is $49.50 for all but a handful of situations, such as a well pump problem, a sewage pump failure, leak through a ceiling etc. and they vary in amounts. Our clients are informed of that respective amount, over the telephone, when a request for service is ordered. In this case a water softener malfunction falls into our normal $49.50 category without question. Kevin, (also my name) the technician who was dispatched to the client's home is relatively new with our company and obviously we had a breakdown on proper use of our pricing structure and price book. We do take considerable time in our training process before any technician is given his own service vehicle and permitted to represent our company in visiting a client's home. Certainly there was a breakdown in our internal communication and steps have been taken to have Kevin be involved in a little more training before allowing him to proceed further. We have been in business for 38 years and have never condoned or practiced any form of "bait and switch". Our reputation is built on trust and integrity, and there is no amount of money that would alter the way Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling values that reputation. I have contacted the client and spoke with his wife, and have offered not only my apology for the bad experience, but informed her we were issuing a total refund of the $49.50. In addition I offered to send a different technician, FREE of any charges, to diagnose the problem with the water softener, with no obligation on the client's part. She was very nice and informed me she would think it over and contact me today. I just called her again and left a message on her voice mail but as of this writing I have not received a return call. Our offer has no expiration, so the client is free to contact us anytime. Again, I hope my apology has been accepted and measures have been taken here to correct this sort of thing. Sincerely, Kevin J Carney, President

Our journey started in Jan 2011. Joe came out and went over our house and the plans for the addtition. We weighed many options including an energy efficient oil heater but eventially decided to bit the bullet and go with the geo system. We signed the papers in March of 2011, but work didnt' begin until May 2011 after we actually moved into the house. This was not Carneys fault, the permits for the wells took a long time as the township in which we now reside did not really understand the system and how it works. There was a lot of red tape to cut through and in our township the permit cost was unexpectedly high. Once the redtape was finished, the process was smooth and efficient. I even asked them to modify a couple things and they did that without batting an eye. They took the old air conditioner compresser to a local HVAC trade school as a donation and got a recipt for me and my taxes. The system is now in and functioning beautifully for both heat/air and hot water. I'm looking forward to low energy costs, not having to worry about the price of oil, and doing the right thing for the earth. Carney's employees were always on time, professionally dressed and willing to answer my thousands of questions. Our technician Matt is a top notch guy.
Description of Work: We purchased an older home in a new area for us. Everything needed replaced including the HVAC system. We decided to go with a new Geothermal system converting from Oil baseboard heat. We knew the project was going to be expensive but the tax incentives helped, I I hated the look of the baseboard. We got estimates from three companies which were all close to each other. Part of the improvements on the house included 1000 sq feet addition. Carney removed all the ugly baseboard, installed a new water heater and put in new duct work throughout the addition and the exsisting house.

We were very happy with the technician who worked with us to find the right system for our house, as well as the workmen in the house who did the installation. One of the men even vacuumed up where he made a mess on the carpet. We are very happy with the product we purchased.

. The reason I chose them because I had trouble with my bath tub. Every time we took showers the water always stays up to my ankles for me, because I take shorter showers. For my family the water goes way up. We tried everything to cleanse it. I did Drain All, snake everything.. Two different plumbers came and one of them told them that we needed to cleanse it. The second plumber came and he too said the same thing. Carney came and unscrewed the track portion, the hinge of track portion that is underneath the bath tub. He lifted it out and there was nothing but hair and floss wrapped around totally clogging it up. It was that simple and he did not even charge me to do that. I needed a water heater and couple of months later when we decided to change the water heater I called him and had him do it. They were the only ones who figured it out. It was not even complicated. I will continue to sue them in the future.
Description of Work: . I used Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling last weekend to install a new water heater also replaced a steel water pipe that went outside to the thicket with a copper one so that it does not rust. He also put in at no extra charge a new galvanized rust proof spigot that has a filter on it in case you use pesticides. He also placed free of charge an alarm underneath the water heater in case it leaks.

These guys were called this morning, so we could get an estimate. They were supposed to be here at 5 PM, but did not show up until nearly 7. We had dinner plans for 7, and we had to cancel our plans for them. The guy had two hour’s worth of work. He had thirty dollars in parts, and he wanted to charge us $690.14 . You are looking at about 300 dollars an hour, and 50 dollars for parts. There is a drain from the shower that needed to be detached and re-attaching. A sheet rock opened up, to expose the pipes. He could not guarantee the work. For 700 dollars, I would expect to have some sort of guarantee on the work performed. I would not recommend this company at all. The guy that came was pretty professional, and I could tell that he was stuck in a tight place, but the owner would not budge on the price.

Response from Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling
It is unfortunate that we were not able to meet the member's expectations as we constantly strive to provide the ultimate in customer service. However there is a little more to the situation than has been presented. The member contacted our company at 11.40 AM on Friday July 1, regarding a leak through the ceiling. The member was informed that we could indeed accommodate him, but it would be AFTER 5.00 PM with a 2 hour window, before we would have a technician available, to which he agreed and booked the service call. As per our GPS equipped vehicles, our technician was dispatched at exactly 5.19 PM, the member was notified at precisely 5.29 that our technician was on his way. The member, at this time, was free to cancel our visit without any financial obligation and continue on with his dinner plans. Due to the heavy volume of holiday traffic arrived at the member's home at 6.27 PM. Normally we would have arrived at approximately 6.00 PM. After observing the leak and the cause thereof we discovered that not only would we need to replace the shower strainer and related piping, but the shower base itself was not stable and literally flexed when anyone would step into the shower, indicating a flaw in the original installation. Therefore unless the issue with the base was addressed we could not guarantee it wouldn't happen again in the future. An estimate to repair the obvious was provided based on the task at hand and after consulting with a friend on his back deck the member determined on his own that the repair would take less than 2 hours and he was willing to pay up to $400.00. Our technician questioned the member about his plumbing expertise and his arrival at how long a repair would take, with no suitable response other than a comment about an expensive car in his driveway dictated the cost of the repair. The member was assured the price is the same whether there is a new Mercedes or a '92 Chevrolet in one's driveway, and the GUARANTEED UP FRONT PRICE was firm whether it took 3 hours or 8 hours to complete the repair. At this point the member went on a profanity laced tirade, at which time our technician promptly thanked him for calling us and left the premises at 7.02 PM. Fortunately this call was an estimate and no work was performed when clearly the member would have been upset should we have just made the required repairs and presented him with an invoice for that amount when the task was complete, thus the beauty of our up front pricing policy. No work is ever performed unless the client understands what will be done and approves in advance. Again, our apologies for not meeting the member's expectations. Sincerely, Kevin J. They arrived on time. They technicians were professional and courteous. They did everything all in one day and cleaned up afterward. They wore booties on their shoes to protect my carpets and laid down other cloths , too. I think they're a little pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for. They said they installed top of the line equipment. It's only been a couple of days since they did this, but so far the A/C seems to be cooling well. I'd recommend them to others. I won't be able to tell you about the heater until the Fall!!

He looked at the outside and inside units - he also checked the wiring - all the time he explained what he was doing and why. He pushed a button .... and voila ... I had AC. When I explained that i have this problem everytime the seasons changed and the unit had to go to or from one modality to another, e.g. heat to AC or AC to heat. He looked at the wiring and assured me everything was fine but for some reason the switch was tripped. What was excelllent and was never shown to me by any of the 3 previous service providers who came out in the past 5 years ... is that the technician showed me just how to push the button all by myself. He also told me what to look for to determine if I need to call for help. Also - this visit did not count as my annual service call which I will now get twice/year because I signed up for a service contract with this very reputable company!

I was looking around to get some estimates for plumbing work. CARNEY plumbing was 2X more expensive than any other plumber in the area. One of the jobs was to replace a wax ring on a toilette. I got three estimates, $140, $150 from two other plumbers and $390 from Carney. These people are nuts. Not only that they charge $50 to give you the rediculus estimate. Do your selfe a favor and pick a plumber that gives free estimates and the have reasonable prices. I don't know who are these other folks that give them good ratings. There is something fishy about this!

Response from Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling
Our mission here at Carney's is to provide 100% customer satisfaction, and it is disappointing to us when that goal is not achieved. It is unfortunate that the member feels our price was on the high side, but our technician was on site, able to observe the situation at hand versus the member's phone call asking another plumber miles away, for a verbal quote to replace a wax seal, when in fact the job entailed more than "just a wax seal". The floor had been altered and has radiant heat installed throughout, including under the toilet. The member conveyed there had been prior issues with the installation and the installing contractor refused to return and correct the problem, which our member felt the radiant heat was melting the wax seal. Based on many years of experience and his observation, our technician determined, if in fact this was the case we would not simply succumb to the old status-quo (that is, replace the wax seal, as is, and be back in a year for the same problem), but instead replace the entire flange under the toilet, raise the flange to the proper height, install a different type gasket that would not be subject to distortion from a heated floor, new bolts, new water supply tube and a 3 year parts and labor warranty. Hardly an apples vs. apples comparison. I can only hope whoever the member hired to correct the problem, approached the task at hand withe the same professionalism as Carney and didn't just throw in a seal and walk out the door. For the record, our trucks are equipped with GPS and in checking our files I found that the technician was dispatched @12:03, arrived at the home @12:21, spent 40 minutes diagnosing the problem and providing a solution, and left the home @1:01.The $49.50 trip charge referred to by the member is waived, should the client proceed with the recommended solutions to the ongoing problems at hand. In closing, I can't emphasize how diligent we are in providing the ultimate in customer service and should the member wish to contact me he may do so at his convenience. Thank you. Called Carney Plumbing first thing in the morning and spoke with Jose (who was very courteous and answered all my questions). He setup the time slot for 12-4. Bill showed up around 3, and diagnosed the problem. He got started right away. After he repaired the leaking shut-off valves, he discovered that my drain line was clogged solid. He quoted me a price, and I agreed to the added cost, and took care of the clog. He suggested that I replace the drain line, because the cast iron was showing its age, and the sludge would continue to build up. Bill answered all my questions and was very friendly, even though it was at the end of the day. I appreciate that kind of professionalism. I found their prices to be a little steep, but as I said above, I did agree to the service. So there is really no room for complaint. The fact that the job got taken care of in the same day that I called definitely softened the blow to my wallet. I would definitely use Carney Plumbing again.

Initial quote was very thorough and provided good explanation of the technology, and the various rebates / credits currently available. Research with other local companies ultimately showed the quoted price was competitive, although pricing for this region appears to be higher than in other regions. Installation was completed in approximately 7 hours by a crew of 3 guys who were respectful of the property and non-intrusive. I was very satisfied with the installation process and the operating instructions that were provided.

Carney HVAC is great. So professional and provides so much useful information. I love dealing with this company. I tend to have a lot of questions and everything was answered and i was never rushed. My expecations are exceeded. Their truck says "quality workmanship" and that is the truth. They provide high quality work and get the job done right without taking shortcuts. It will not be the lowest price option, but the price is fair ,and you get what you pay for. I am willing to pay a little extra for a high level of customer service and professionalism. Love them! I have a leak in a radiator pipe. Two other companies came out and did a free estimate. Carney wanted an $85 fee to come out and "diagnose" the problem (which is a leak I can see). This fee applies even if you have them come out and do the work on the spot. When I asked what their labor rate was, they would not tell me. It is not possible for me to hire anyone blindly like this.

The tech (John) showed up on time and was very neat throughout the visit. He determined the problem fairly quickly and he definitely fixed the problem. However, I wish he was a little more forthcoming with the details of the work (for example, he didn't tell me how much refrigerant was added nor how he arrived at the pricing for adding it). Their pricing definitely seems more expensive than normal -- they quoted me at ~$440 to perform a leak test, and I got another company to do it for less than $170. All in all, the quality of work was fine, but the pricing was not.
Description of Work: Carney came in to assess why my AC unit wasn't bringing my temperature down and determined that I was low on refrigerant (by 40-50%). They re-filled the refrigerant and added dye to the system (to be used in a leak test in the future).

Needless to say we are disappointed the member feels he was mistreated. Our goal is to receive a grade of "A" in every category, on every job. We take great pride in our approach to Customer Service. However, we are happy we were able to quickly get his system back in running condition on a day when the temperatures were in the high 90's. A careful review of the job work order and an interview with the technician were conducted and found to be in order and in accordance with our standard operating procedure, which is to say that no work is ever performed without prior consent and written authorization from the client. Our price for the repairs was presented to the member in advance which he authorized by affixing his initials and signature to proceed. The price paid by the member was EXACTLY, to the penny, the amount quoted in advance. I only wish the member had contacted our office to voice any concerns and we could have verbally addressed the issue at hand. Should the member wish, he may still contact me directly at any time. Several pounds of refrigerant were added to the member's system. It would be impossible for the technician to know how much refrigerant is needed upon initial inspection. Our company uses standard superheat and subcooling principles to determine precisely how much refrigerant needs to be added or removed from an air conditioning system, at which time the member was presented with a GUARANTEED price for the repair. The member at this time can say "no thank you" or authorize, by his signature, permission to proceed with the repair at the price quoted. The member authorized the repair (in writiing) and asked the technician to proceed. In addition to the repair price, the member also purchased our Standard One Year Maintainence Agreement, which again he initialed and signed for and received a copy of the same. The method the technician used to determine pricing to add refrigerant and dye is very simple--it was from his standard pricing guide used on every job. Concerning the location of the leak and the quote provided for a future repair, (the member declined), there are several methods that can be utilized to determine the source of the leak (or leaks) in a refrigerant system. We feel that our method is the best and most encompassing for several reasons: a) it allows for immediate restoration of air conditioning to the client. b) it exposes all sources of leaks if more than one. c) if a future leak were to occur, it will be exposed from the initial method applied. d) it is safe and environmentally responsible. While we realize there are other methods utilized, we do not believe in cutting corners with regard to our approach although it simply takes more time and equipment to be sensitive to our environment. Over the 35 years we have been in business, we found taking "short-cuts" in locating leaks tends to cost the client far more in the long run than the initial savings from using a less precise method. In closing and as stated above, there was no deviation from the price quoted and the amount paid. Should the member have misplaced his copy of the transaction, I am happy to send him and Angie's List a copy so he may review it again and verify he is mistaken in this accusation. Sincerely, Kevin J. Carney President

He was punctual and he did professional work. I had been getting some tiles put down the day before and apparently the people had bumped something on the hot water heater. It went off when he came and he corrected that problem with no additional charge. His price was $40 off from his advertisement, but I felt that he was a little expensive in the long run.
Description of Work: I got Carney Plumbing Heating & Cooling to replace a utility sink in the laundry room.
