I had a leak in my toilet and I needed someone immediately.  I called them and they were there that afternoon.  They are extremely reliable.  They have good plumbers.  They come when they are called.  They are good on the telephone.  They are expensive.  I had two plumbers come to my house; one was recent and another one several months ago.  They were polite and they knew what they were doing.  They were clean.  They took care of their any mess they made; they cleaned up.  They explained everything to me.  In one case they came back the second time because there was still a problem.  There was no charge for the second visit.  You pay more than you should have to pay.  But on the other hand you can count on them.

Donnelly was prompt in responding to our call for service, and did quality work to install the pump.  In regards to cost we have given Donnelly a bad rating because in researching the cost to do the repair work we found that well pump replacement is usually at a cost of $1,500 to $2,000.  We believe we were overcharged in part because this was an emergency.  At the time the well pump was replaced the representative recommended that we replace the water tank at an additional cost of $1,400.  We decided against doing this with Donnelly because of the high cost.  Subsequently we had a different HVAC contractor provide an estimate to replace the water tank.  We recently installed a larger capacity tank, replaced the old copper pipe, and had the acid neutralizer serviced at a total of $1,100.  Cheaper than Donnelly quoted and we got more done and increased the capacity of the tank.

We had used Donnelly for approximately 10 years in our previous house to service the water system including the addition of a water heater, including a Kinetico acid neutralizer and water softener which Donnelly recommended we install, and the heating system including the addition of an ultra-violet unit on the heater which Donnelly also recommended.  We feel we gave a great deal of business to Donnelly.  In retrospect we feel that Donnelly took advantage of us in regards to cost.  One observation is that Donnelly representatives must be paid on a commission basis to sell customers on additional services and equipment.  Looking back now on our past experience with Donnelly we believe that Donnelly took advantage of our lack of technical knowledger of the systems in our house to sell us equipment and services at a much higher cost and possibly selling us on equipment that we did not need.

In summary I believe Donnelly is a high quality professional HVAC vender but I will not use Donnelly again because I believe the quality is at a significant cost to the consumer.

Had to have a faucet installed. He wasn't there more then 10 minutes and wanted to sell me a"Gold Star Service Program contract. I could of installed the faucet. The price was outrageous. He tried to sell me the service contract for 20 minutes it took him all of 20 minutes to install. Most of the time to open the box and read the instructions, I sent them back there $49 magnet coupon.I received letter from the service manager and he told me that the cost of the faucet installation would of been $556.00( he was gracious to deduct $125.00 since I supplied the faucet). He continued and thanked me for expressing my opinion on the service call. He also said, " I reviewed your invoice and the pricing is correct. I learned a long time ago that it is better to offer a more expensive, quality service and explain our prices every once in a while rather than skimp on service and have to live with a reputation for poor quality forever."

I'm glad it was only a faucet i got hosed on. I have returned there $49 magnet coupon. It's the most expensive faucet I ever had installed. He will never have to explain his pricing again...........at least to me.

The owner of Donnelly's contacted me after my posting at Angie's List.  He was very gracious and seemed to be very concerned about making me happy.  I am very impressed that he even called, and am even more impressed how he didn't get off the phone until I was happy. He explained how their prices are fixed per the subject being repaired.  If you want a breakdown of what is being fixed you need to tell them on the phone before they come out.  Knowing this will make it easier to understand what is being done and what the costs are. Thank you Mr. Donnelly for taking the time to call me and make things right!

The Sunday air conditioning service went well. We called early in the morning and the person we talked to was quite clear that this would be considered emergency service and we were looking at a $100 bill before any service was ever done. Since we needed air conditioning we agreed. The technician arrived within the allocated time window and quickly determined it was a blown fuse in the unit. He replaced the fuse, checked out other areas of the unit and left. He was in our house for about 20 minutes total. I have always found this company up front with their pricing, totally professional, and always prompt. The only issue I have is price. They appear to only carry top of the line products for which you will pay. That is fine when you are price shopping (like we did for a water softener) but when you have an issue like a water heater not working it can put you in a tough situation of paying more than you are comfortable or bringing in another service provider.

First, I will say that these guys were responsive and get to my job quickly, which I appreciate. I was time constrained to get the projects done and so they got there quickly. They servicedmy AC unit as I asked and then as service technicians are inclined to do they found three other things to "repair", so I had them do that because I really know next to nothing about HVAC so I couldn't say one way or another if/what was needed. Where these guys lost me was on the cost of the work they did for me. I have to admit to some buyers remorse after everything was completed. I wish I had had another estimate before the work got done. So, I give them decent marks for their punctuality and getting the work done, but I wonder if I couldn't have gotten the same work done for a fairer price. If I had not been under a time constriant, I would have gotten more than one opinion.

This summer our air conditioner stopped working (the fan was working but the compressor was not). Step 1: A technician from Donnelly's came over and looked at the problem. We had two choices: replace the compressor alone or replace the entire unit. We decided to replace the entire unit as it was over 15 years old. The technician charged us about $60 for this visit. Step 2: A customer service agent from the company visited us and gave us estimates. There was no charge for this. Step 3: Two technicians from the company came over and replaced the entire unit in about 6 hours.

He charged my credit card. For less money I got a water heater installed by a home improvement store! I was given 72 hours by Donnelly to cancel the service. I mailed a signed cancellation. They called back to ask why. I told him your work is good and your price is unreasonable. They agreed to lower their price to the highest of the 3 quotes I received. He refunded the money to my account; the difference was $263 and that's why I am giving them an F for price. I said I wouldn't recommend them b/c of a price and I wouldn't go back to them b/c of price.

We called Donnelly's on Sunday morning around 10:00 AM and asked for emergency service. They called back within 15 minutes and let me know that they would be out, but it would be 1:30 at the earliest. The technician also indicated he would call when he left the stop before our house and was on the way to our house. During both the original call and the return call from the technician, it was made clear there was a $95 emergency service fee and a $99 service call fee. The technician called around 1:10 to let me know he was on his way, and arrived around 1:30. When he arrived, he asked for details about our symptoms, went into the basement, realized the fuse had blown, got a new fuse, and replaced it. He then made sure the unit was working and also checked the outside unit and found everything was working as well. He was at our house and gone in about 30 minutes. The charge came to $269, with the charge for replacing the fuse at $75. This agrees with previous experience using this company; I find their work to be very professional, they are prompt and courteous, but they are on the expensive side.

Donnelly's came out the day after we called and diagnosed the problem fairly quickly. Our service tech was very careful while cutting into our drywall, cutting by hand and making the smallest possible cuts. However, he claimed not to have the required part (PVC pipe) in the truck so that he had to return next Tuesday, requiring my husband to take a half day off work to be home for the repair. They charge a flat rate for certain items, so the price they quote is what you pay at the end, guaranteed. The repair itself was completed quickly and the guys were very pleasant, but we felt that we were charged quite a bit. However, that may be common to this area.

The serviceman who came to our house wouldn't accept that the supply line just broke. He assume we had abused it in some way. It was a weekend and the service person couldn't access any records at the main office and didn't even believe that they had done the original service. They were rude and tried to be intimidating. Obviously the first guy who came out was incompetent too (I agree with the second guy who came out that it shouldn't have just broke--but that is exactly what it did). I kept the refrigerator magnet to remind me of who NOT to call next time and to remind to always use Angie's list! Oh, they're pricey too.

"IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENT ABOVE, DONNELLY’S WOULD LIKE TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT TOOK PLACE OVER 6 MONTHS AGO. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR POOR SERVICE, IT WAS NOT BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THE MEMBER WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDED TO HIM BEFORE NOW. IF THIS WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION AT THE TIME OF THE CALL, WE WOULD HAVE DONE EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM TO THE MEMBER'S SATISFACTION. THE TOILET SHUT OFF VALVE WAS DAMAGED DURING A HOME RENOVATION PERFORMED BY THE HOME OWNER. THE SHUT OFF VALVE WAS FIRST INSTALLED BY DONNELLY’S ON 10-05-06; HOWEVER, THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO SERVICE CALLS. THE SHUT OFF VALVE WAS PROPERLY AND PROMPTLY FIXED BY AN EXPERIENCED TECHNICIAN. IN ADDITION, THE WEEKEND TRIP CHARGE WAS WAIVED AND THE MEMBER WAS GIVEN A SPECIAL GOLD STAR MEMBERSHIP RATE."

Came on Sunday to look at the problem. Promised to complete the work on Monday if I pay all the money in advance and "waive the right to cancel". Their behavior changed after collecting the money, before getting the money they gave me a 15 minutes window for the tech to arriver and after getting the money their time window widened to 4 hours. Informed on Monday they can't fix until Tuesday. On Tuesday they said that due to a communication problem the motor was not ordered. On Wednesday they scheduled me the last job of the day and came with a bad motor (they never even looked at the motor before bringing to my house), as businesses were closed, so could not get another motor until Friday. They were again scheduling me towards the end of the day on Friday. I had to argue with 3 people to schedule me earlier. The tech that came put the motor in without 3 major screws and then I had to tell him to put the screws in. I also had to tell him to screw in the ground wire of the motor.

"FOR OUR CUSTOMERS WHO WISH TO HAVE WORK COMPLETED WITHIN THREE DAYS, PENNSYLVANIA LAW REQUIRES ALL SERVICE COMPANIES TO ASK THE CUSTOMER TO SIGN A WAIVER. OUR COMPANY’S STANDARD PROCEDURE IS A 4 HOUR SERVICE WINDOW DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS, 15-MINUTES ON A SUNDAY I FEEL IS AN EXCELLENT SERVICE RESPONSE TIME. UNFORTUNATELY THE PART FOR THE UNIT WAS NOT IN STOCK AND HAD TO BE ORDERED OUT OF STATE. IN THIS CASE MY VENDOR LET BOTH OF US DOWN AND UNFORTUNATELY THEY DID IT TO US TWICE. AS PER A PHONE CONVERSATION, I SAID, “I WAS RELYING ON SOMEONE ELSE THEREFORE HESITATED TO PROMISE WHEN I WOULD HAVE THE PART”. ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, I OFFERED A FULL REFUND TO THE CUSTOMER WHICH WAS DECLINED. IN RESPONSE TO THE CLAIM OF THE TECH NOT INSTALLING MOTOR PROPERLY, DUE TO A REQUEST FROM THE CUSTOMER FOR THEIR CONVENIENCE, WE SENT A DIFFERENT TECHNICIAN WHO HAD NO PRIOR INVOLVEMENT WITH THIS SERVICE CALL. THE TECH WHO INSTALLED THE PART KNEW EXACTLY HOW TO INSTALL IT; HE JUST NEEDED TO DIGEST THE SITUATION. THE FINAL REPAIR COST $820.86. END RESULT, I APPRECIATED THE CUSTOMER'S UNDERSTANDING AND CALM WAYS THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE SITUATION. I AM GLAD WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE UNIT WORKING, AND AGAIN MY SINCEREST APOLOGIES TO ALL INVOLVED."

On time arrival, friendly, quick worker but thorough also. Receptive to questions and willing to educate homeowner on maintaining and adjusting system. Increased boiler temperature and adjusted pressure. Tightened leaky fitting. Bled air from system. Advised us to clean accumulated dust from upstairs radiators to improve heating. Did so soon after, and improvement was immediate (now only about 2 degrees difference). Will gladly call on them again. Service charge was a flat $50 fee due to home warranty contract.

THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY MORNING IN A HOUSE WE HAD RECENTLY MOVED INTO. THE PERSON I SPOKE TO ON THE PHONE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND GAVE ME A SENSE OF WHAT THE COSTS WOULD BE AND WHEN THE WORK WOULD BE DONE. SHE WAS RIGHT ON TARGET ON BOTH COUNTS. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED EVERYTHING THAT HE WAS DOING AND OFFERED ADVICE ABOUT THINGS I COULD DO TO INSURE THAT THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN AGAIN. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SERVICE AND THOUGHT THE PRICE, FOR AN EMERGENCY CALL ON THE WEEKEND, WAS REASONABLE.
