Description of Work: They were contracted to cut back over-grown shrubs. They should have informed me that the work would leave stark and ugly plantings when cut back sharply. Had they called me from the house to supervise, the excessive cutting back could have been avoided. They forgot certain items that had been contracted for until reminded about them. Very junior members of the team did the work rather than experienced professionals who would have had more knowledge of balance and symmetry. They left branches and twigs on the ground rather than fully cleaning up. After I provided photos and protested, they cut $50.00 from the initial price.

Description of Work: I had several very large old Ash trees that needed to come down and others that needed to be extensively pruned back. I got quotes from 4 different tree services and Kingkiner was the best. The crew was very professional and the cleanup was very good. I definitely would use them again.

Description of Work: Pruned a tree in my backyard. The service was provided efficiently and I'd recommend the service provider. They did a good job. However they need to keep appointments (the first one was scheduled and no one showed up) and be more responsive in general.

Description of Work: I had them come to cut up a few downed limbs, remove 2 clumps of overgrowth and trim our hedges. They also ground a stump. They were to remove waste. |I think overall they did okay, but I noticed a few things as time went on, first, I had to call them back to trim the hedges. They overlooked this on the first visit, but they came back and did an okay job. I was hoping they would be trimmed level, but I never put that in the contract with them, so I didn't force the issue. I made them level myself. Second, they were to take off the cuttings. While they did this mostly, I noticed that they tried to hide 8-10 pieces about 16-20" long in the treeline on the back of our property. I wasn't happy about this, but I was able to use the wood for a couple of fires in our fire pit this past summer. |Overall, I think they do an okay job, but I was disappointed about the two talking points I just stated. Because of this, I wouldn't use them in the future.

We initially used them over winter after bad storm. At that time we re pleased , so we used them again in spring. Prices were lower than other estimates...BUT I greatly regret using them.. Would gladly have paid more for better service! Overall very poor communicators, telling us they'd begin in a few days, week later we call...when they finally arrive, I review work order with supervisor.. Remove pine, elevate approximately ten feet of overhanging branches on neighbors mulberry and TRIM holly.when I arrived home that night I was mortified. The holly was not trimmed but elevated at least six feet. Certainly unnatural looking for a holly and no longer giving any privacy. I can't account for misunderstanding because they did to the holly what they did to mulberry and they were supposed to be clearly different services( in writing and explanation) Trim vs elevate..irreversible changes made to holly. I made several phone calls to office and never got the promised phone call from Elmer. It also took another week to get stump out! After several calls also. Finally they were billing us again for the winter work that we had already paid for. After several more office calls that was sorted out with no apology on their part. I wish I was an angle member before. Never again!

HORRIBLE. Do not ever use this service.
Description of Work: We had a HORRIBLE experience with this tree service. During the first consult, we explained what we wanted. When the men came to do the work they had no clue what they were supposed to do, they were rude. I explained to them what I wanted done. I had to go to work. When I returned they only did part of what we had agreed to. The next MONTH was spent arguing on the phone with the supervisor. He was very combative, accusative and unprofessional. He said they would come back to finish and NEVER DID. Although they were a bit cheaper than the competitors I would have gladly paid more to have the job done right and be treated with respect and dignity. DO NOT EVER USE THIS SERVICE. They are incompetent, the workers underpaid and not trained, and very unprofessional. It was horrible experience.

Very positive experience overall. People we spoke with on the phone were pleasant and professional. Punctial and professional. Given the size of the tree (mature, at least 40 ft high) and proximity to house (within 8 feet), I was nervous about any damage to house, yard or surrounding trees. I was leaving for work when they arrived with a large crane. I thought for sure there would be damage to the yard due to the size of the crane. When I came home, the tree was down, and there was no visible damage to the yard, house or surrounding trees. They came the following day to retrieve the rest of the trunk and grind the stump. Overall and excellent experience. They certainly have the experitise and equipment to handle big jobs that have little margin for error. I would recommend and use again. Also, price was lower than some of the other tree companies that we contacted.
Description of Work: Removed a large locust tree that was very close (within 8 feet) of house. Tree was mature and very tall with large canopy and large trunk.

We had a large oak tree in our back yard that was sickly and needed to be trimmed and/or removed. (It had many large dead branches and the remaining branches were not flourishing as they should in the spring growing season.) After talking to some of our neighbors who had trees removed from their property in recent years, we got recommendations for a few companies and began contacting them for estimates and opinions on what to do with the tree. The consensus was that the tree could be trimmed of dead branches, but it was unlikely to thrive or "bounce back", so we decided that complete removal of the tree was the best option. Kingkiner was the only company who seeemed confident about being able to take down and extricate the tree from our back yard, which is not accessable by trucks or heavy equipment due to the close spacing of houses in our neighborhood. The estimator said that they would be able to remove the tree some time during the following week, and that someone from the crew would call our house the day before they planned to arrive, so that we could be present when they were working on our property. A week elapsed and there was no phone call from Kingkiner. There had been several days of rain in a row, so we assumed that the weather had been slowing them down and that was why they were not able to perform the work during the estimated time frame. Still, we were a bit preturbed about the lack of communication, so we called Kingkiner's office, and we received an apology and we were told that the service would be performed in a few days at the most. Two more days went by and there was no communication from Kingkiner. On the third day (a Saturday morning), we were awakened by the sound of a chainsaw running in our back yard. We looked out the bedroom window and saw Kingkiner's crew of about 4-5 men getting to work on the tree. We were happy to see that the job was started, but it was a bit annoying that there was no phone call the day or night before, and not even a knock on the door that morning before they got underway. We were amazed at the technical expertise of the crew! They took down our once-mighty oak tree quite quickly and managed to wrangle most of the large limbs in such a way that they did not damage the nearby utility lines, chain link fence, or garden beds. There was one branch that snagged part of the chain link fence on the way down, causing the top rail of the fence to bend downward. We basically expected some light collateral damage to occur, given the tight confines of our yard and the sheer size of the tree. The damage appeared to be easily fixable, so we were not overly concerned about it at the time. We figured they would fix it once the rest of the job was done. In about two hours, the tree was reduced to a stump, and all the large limbs were removed from our property. One member of the crew knocked on our door and informed us that the cutting crew was leaving for the next job, and that another crew would come by later in the day to remove the 20 or so large sections of the main trunk of the tree, and to grind down the stumps and fill the large divots in our lawn. We thanked the crew for their work and we went about our normal day. The cleanup crew never arrived that day. We assumed that this meant the crew was occupied doing other projects that afternoon, and that they would be out on Monday to finish our job. We came home from work on Monday to discover that nothing had been done. We called the main office again and explained the situation, and they said the crew would finish the job on Tuesday. Fast forward 24 hours... still no crew, and again no communication from Kingkiner! We called again, and got the same apology and the same explanation again. Finally on Wednesday they removed all the large trunk sections from our property. They did not, however, repair any of the large divots, or the chain link fence, nor did they grind the stumps down as promised. We also found out that the grass under the large trunk sections was now dead, since the trunk sections sat there for so long. We called the office AGAIN (should have put them on speed dial in the first place!) and again the receptionist was very apologetic. This time she gave us the estimator's cell phone number so that we could contact him directly. We explained all of our frustrations to the estimator, and he assured us that the job would be finished ASAP. A few hours later, a Kingkiner employee arrived with the stump grinding equipment. This worker was very down-to-earth and actually explained to us what he was going to do. When we asked his opinion on the state of the yard, he agreed that it was left in worse condition than it should have been, and he offered to call the estimator on our behalf and explain the situation to him. After the phone call, he said the estimator would come out to our property the next day and survey the damage himself. He then proceeded to grind the stumps down, we thanked him, and he went on his way. The next day, the estimator came out and we showed him the damage. He dismissed the divots and dead grass as "normal" and then he suggested that the damage to the fence was not caused by his crew. After some back-and-forth conversation, he accepted responsibility for the damage to the fence, and said the damaged section of the top rail would be replaced, and the large divots would be filled with topsoil, even though that is not normally part of the job. He also agreed to reduce the bill by $50. The fixes were performed within a day or two and the bill was adjusted as promised. We wouldn't have cared much about the divots, as they were very much expected, and the estimator did warn us about them before the project was started. However, given all the delays, the lack of communication, the damage to the fence, and the grass that had died while we were waiting for the cleanup crew to arrive, we really didn't feel that we should be expected to do any more of the work required to get our yard back to normal. Overall, Kingkiner DID get the job done, and they were the only company that we contacted that would even agree to do this difficult job. They have competitive pricing, and the majority of their laborers are very good at what they do. However, the communication was spotty at best, and the delays were very annoying, particularly the delays that occurred once the job was started. Our yard was essentially unusable for a week, and at times it seemed like WE were the only ones really keeping tabs and making sure the project was progressing. Granted, it rained just about every day in May, and there was nothing Kingkiner could do to change the weather, but that would be a weak excuse for the lack of communication we experienced. In the future, we will probably pay a little more to one of Kingkiner's competitors in the hopes of avoiding the aforementioned headaches. But if we have another difficult job that no one else will agree to do, Kingkiner may get the call once again.
Description of Work: Felling and removal of large oak tree from back yard, and subsequent grinding of 3 stumps (there were 2 stumps on the property already, before the removal of the oak tree.) Our back yard was not accessable by trucks or heavy machinery, so the tree needed to be removed piece by piece, by hand. The location of the tree was also problematic in that it was less than 10 feet from a fence, and only about 25 feet from the house.

Elmer Kingkiner came out on Tuesday for a free estimate and the tree was gone on Thursday. This was a great experience and would call them again in a minute.
Description of Work: I had a large mulberry tree growing into telephone wires in my back yard. Kingkiner Tree Service gave me a very fair estimate to take the tree down and remove all the brush. Not only did they take the tree down but they also cleaned up any evidence of brush from my yard and left it spotless. I've worried about this tree for a long time and I am completely satisfied and happy to recommend Kingkiner Tree Service to anyone.

They showed up as promised and were quite impressive with how they scaled the trees to fall them. But one of the trees they removed was not supposed to be removed. We were actually OK with that, but they wanted MORE MONEY to remove the tree they were supposed to take out in the first place. We negotiated a small increase in the contract amount, but they never came back to finish, leaving a terrible mess and stumps blocking the driveway. They never returned any calls to explain themsleves. The epitome of unprofessionalism.

They came on agreed on day and time, took out the trees and trimmed out the others. Had it done in two days, then came back to grind the stumps and collect the cut-down trees about a week later. They went about their jobs in a professional manner and cleaned up after themselveson a daily basis. I was surprised at how quick they took down the trees.

I got the runaround from start to finish. Took several attempts to get someone to come give me an estimate. Then when it was time to begin the project several weeks later, I couldn't get a call back. I left several messages (even asking if they simply had the capacity for my job) and finally reached Elmer, who said he'd come by to discuss. Of course he never did. If you like stalking a contractor, this company's for you. Very unprofessional. Frankly there are too many other companies out there to spend this much time chasing somebody for my business.

The service was at the last minute. They were cutting down a neighbor's tree in an adjacent back yard, and I asked that they also cut down my tree, which they did. One issue was wood storage. They did not store the wood where I requested it (about 5 feet from where it was cut down), but piled it up on my patio against the house. (Never store lumber against a house - termites). When I contacted them to come back and move the large pile, the supervisor (Elmer) yelled at me and harassed me over several phone conversations, insisting I pay in full prior to their returning. (I was willing to negotiate and pay up to 90% of the service - not good enough). The matter was straightened out on the phone with the owner's wife, who was understanding and apologetic.
