Fixing this house that was wired by a over-eager handyman required the patience of a saint.
After gathering estimates and listening to varying proposals, I decided to go with Richard who had the best suggestions and a very honest but competitive estimate. I've gone with the lowest bidder on other jobs and am hesitant to do that unless I really trust that corners won't be cut. I also will not go with the highest bidder who arrives at his estimate after piling in added work that really isn't necessary.
Richard made very constructive suggestions that resulted in a slightly higher bill than I expected when I first decided to hire an electrician for this work, but much lower than I expected once he ran into some issues and had to do some extra unanticipated work.
Along the way, he continually verified with me that he was doing the work I expected and had no problem correcting something he overlooked and I failed to point out when doing the estimate. It required him to add an extra switch, which he did at no charge. I also decided to add an extra outlet and circuit that was not in the estimate, and he was happy to oblige.
The access to some of the areas, especially my attic with covered floors, was probably no fun to work with; And my curious cat repeatedly needed to be relocated, but he took it in stride and made no fuss about it which I appreciated.
I cancelled plans the night I had work done expecting to have lots of cleaning up to do, and was surprised to see how clean he left everything. He was just the most polite, professional and respectful contractor I've had in my house before.
In the end, the bill was a little higher than his estimate, but much lower than I expected considering the curve-balls and extra work thrown in at the last minute. I was also astounded to see all the work he was able to finish in such a short time.
I have no doubt his work was done correctly and safely. He added a GFI outlet prior to running the outdoor sunroom/porch wiring, which I hadn't thought about and wasn't specified in the estimate. Same goes for the way he ran the kitchen outlets. He could have done the bare minimum and pocketed the rest, but he didn't. That will really make the difference when I need future electrical work done.
To sum up: he is skilled, knowledgeable, quick, hard-working, punctual, polite, flexible, honest; and reasonably-priced especially if you value those other traits.

He was terrific--on-time, made good suggestions about kitchen outlet placement, worked quickly, discovered problem with living room and repaired. Even discovered a problem we didn't know about and called the electrician who had done the work to review. The other guy came out and corrected it (work that had been undone by the previous owner without his knowledge). Mr. Floyd and his fellow electricians really cared that work with their names on it was perfect because it was a matter of our safety and their reputations. Great guy.
