The day of the move, they were scheduled to arrive at 2:00. That morning (approx. 10:00am) they called saying they would arrive by noon (2 hours early). We adjusted our plans accordingly, and then they arrived two hours late anyway.
When they did arrive, They brought a truck that was way too small for the job and had to stop and repack It twice. The entire job took two hours over the estimate, despite them bringing an extra person. Which not only cost us money, but then they wanted to swindle my wife out of extra cash "because we were only being billed for 3 people instead of 4". However, none of them particularly were very skilled at moving. The 4th guy had zero experience and ended up standing around most of the time. Overall, they missed over 30% of the stuff I wanted moved because of the issues.
While at the first house, before getting to the second house to grab the rest of our stuff. They wanted to make a stop to get some drinks. So, we stopped at a Wawa on the way. I am fine that they needed to stop, but they took more than 45 minutes. 45 minute I paid for.
When the finally got to the new house, they were sweating profusely and they were covered in dust and whatnot. They then proceeded to get that dirt and sweat all over my furniture, my walls and my carpets. Not to mention the myriad of scrapes and marks they made in the walls and ceilings. Buy the time they finished, they were in a stupendous rush, and just wanted cash and took off before we had the ability to event take an accounting of what actually made it over let alone check that my possessions that did make it over were all undamaged. I did notice some damage to my dresser and some larger items but it was all insignificant and easy to cover-up or in not noticeable locations.
However, they broke my 64" plasma television. When I went to clean the television off after they moved us in, I found a quarter sized mark on the screen that I couldn't clean off. It also cause a softball sized discoloration of the picture. I called numerous TV repair people - and they all said it was repairable. Also, the bezel of the TV was cracked and dented in multiple locations.
I called the next business day and the woman asked that I send pictures in. So I did and called back in the next day, the owner claimed I signed off on the job and that they no longer were responsible, and after I argued she agreed to send out the claim form but that it would take 4 weeks. After weeks go buy, I finally get the form and send it back in after filling it out. Weeks go by and I get no response. After emailing them a few times, I get an email back that the fine print on the back of the receipt says that anything broken would be paid 60 cents per pound, which meant the reimbursement was $62.40 and would I like that amount credited to my credit card. I explained that replacement value was $4000 and that I needed a lot more than $62.40 and I would seek whatever action needed to ensure I got enough to cover at least fair market value (approx $3200) but I was willing to compromise to avoid confrontation. I hear nothing back for more than two weeks and two emails saying I need an answer.
Finally, I get an email back saying she was sending a check and wanted to verify my address. She neglected to state an amount, and had some random address I have never heard of before. I corrected her on the address and she then replied she mailed out a check and they consider the claim closed. I get the check a few days later (now, about 2 months without a TV) and it's for $62.40! And it says in the memo, "PAYMENT IN FULL FOR DAMAGE TO TV. CLAIM CLOSED". The arrogance alone was astonishing. They weren't very nice to begin with, but this had to be the most rude and unprofessional manner that I have ever seen from a company.
I would say, very clearly. Avoid them at all cost. Do not use them.
Valerie Jameson is the owner - She was the one with a nasty attitude. For the record I have been polite and calm however stern. I also spoke to a few attorneys, they all stated that any such "contract" would be "unconscionable" and not legally enforceable if it came to litigation. However, I would like to avoid that route and resolve this matter without confrontation.
