I had to call more than once and leave multiple messages to get someone to schedule an estimate. The contractor who did come out seemed knowledgeable and professional and I felt comfortable with him. I then called the office back to say that I wanted them to do the work, and again had trouble reaching someone.
When I did reach someone, the woman told me that they needed to send out paperwork for me to sign and send back to them with a deposit. A couple weeks went by and I still did not receive the paperwork, so I called again. After a few calls, I finally reached the woman in the office again, and told her that I never received the paperwork.
She said she would send it out immediately (but never said that she sent it the first time). When I did not receive the paperwork again after a couple more weeks went by, I moved on and selected another contractor to do the work. The contractor I selected was much more responsive than M.J. Connolly Paving, so I assumed they wanted the job and M.J. Connolly did not.
In looking at the other reviews for M.J. Connolly Paving, it appears that there have been some other customers who have had the same problem with lack of responsiveness. It looks like it his "hit or miss" with this contractor in terms of their ability to respond to customers. I suspect that the woman who answers the office phone is the owner's wife, and I do not think she is very customer focused. I also do not think that the owner realizes that his wife is costing him business.
Responsiveness is very important. If a contractor is not responsive to you in the beginning, he may not be responsive to you if you have a problem with the work after it is done. M.J. Connolly needs to be more responsive to its customers and show that they value their business.
"Hello, I am out of the office today. I will be in on Wednesday and will look up the work order I created when you called this past late winter and go over particulars with you at that time. Thank you, Lynn *Enjoy your 4th of July holiday. *We strongly suggest waiting at least two years before sealing new asphalt, that way any problems that may surface, can be addressed before the drive is sealed."
They did a really good job with the actual paving, but there was a problem afterwards where the top of the drain, I don't remember if it cracked or maybe if someone had taken it, but there was a problem. I called and left a message. So, it was very soon after the work was done. I messaged and they never got back to me. Then, I called again and I talked to a woman who said, "Oh yeah, we're going to have someone for you". I called back like a lot of time passed and I called again, talked to them and they said they will contact me. I never heard back from them, and I just gave up. Since then, the top part of the drain with a hard plastic cracked, because it didn't have a top. So, I would say the work that they did was good, but I was not happy with follow-up. I would not recommend them again because of that.
The stuff that they did was good except they were bad, really bad on the follow-up. I didn't like the price.
"I met with (member name removed) on 6-9-14. We have agreed to fix her concrete which cracked because of a pipe which runs underneath. We are going to install a drainage facility in her driveway to fix her standing water. There is insufficient grade on surface to drain water. We are doing this for no cost to customer. The member was very happy with my offer to do this."
"Hi [member name removed]. We got a little behind on our seal coat estimates, since we had a little snow again on Tuesday , we actually do not start sealing until the end of May ... we can come out the beginning of the week, if that works for your schedule. Please let me know. Regards, Lynn Connolly"
|They did an excellent job.
"Hi Ms (member name removed). We did definitely have a difficult time with our schedule this year, between heat and rain, it was extremely trying on our end. No job is to small for our company. We pride ourselves in doing all we can to help everyone. Regards, Lynn Connolly"
"Hi [member name removed]. I left a message on your voice mail, that Souderton is out of our serving area for seal coating. We would not be able to be competitive, where as a contractor closer to your area would indeed give a better price. I thank you for your interest in our company. Regards, Lynn"
It was a tricky project as the old pavement had to be dug out and new put down while maintaining the proper pitch in 3 directions! - away from house, away from road and down the street. There was ~0 room for error and they nailed it. Large crew came and clearly knew what they were doing.
It turned out great.
I'd use them again and recommend them.
