I initially worked with Bill to walk through my project list and obtain an estimate. From the start of working with the Pierce Shallis team, I felt they were listening to my needs - from needing dog safe products to wanting my property to be easy to care for. Pierce promptly sent an estimate, we decided on plants, and we set a date for the job.
Today was the date of the service and frankly, I am ecstatic with being able to get my weekends back this summer due to the excellent job the team did. Not only did Bill show up for the start of the job, but Cody - the team lead - walked through the property and the list of projects to be completed. He asked questions along the way, gaining understanding of what my needs were, and communicated them directly to the team on how to approach the work. Although a finished project is important to me, the process along the way and the clear communications is what makes me a repeat customer in the future. Pierce also showed up to review the project and the team was off to make my property beautiful with an extensive list of must haves.
The finished product resulted in multiple hand weeded beds, two large areas being regraded and seeded, several edged and mulched areas, and the installation of several perennials where before was a jungle of weeds.
If you are looking for a landscaper who works with your needs, has great communications, and a high level of professionalism, then Pierce Shallis is the company you need to call. We had some tree work that needed to be done before the installation, and that took a few weeks because we needed to get some estimates and coordinate with our neighbors since some trees were on their property. Once we had a date for our tree work, we were able to coordinate our installation with Pierce who was patient, responsive, and flexible throughout the process.
Pierce arrived with five other men who worked for about four hours on our project. Before they got started, we spent a few minutes discussing placement and other details which were followed perfectly. They did a nice job cleaning up the area when the job was completed. After the job was done, Pierce emailed me instructions about how to properly water the new evergreens.
We look forward to watching our new evergreens grow!

Pierce is a great guy, very friendly, super knowledgable about the flora and east coast plants. It's great when someone recognizes all the plants and trees in your yard and knows how to care for each.
Overall, their prices were a little higher than we were paying, but I feel like it was worth the upgrade in quality. Our previous yard team would leave cigarette butts from time to time and wouldn't go the extra step with debris from tree fall. Pierce and team do that without question.

worked with. Not only was the quality of the work poor, the customer service
was horrible. I showed the landscaper who came for an estimate a picture of the
specific type of river rock I wanted and I was told it would be no problem. The
river rock they brought was dirty, jagged, and looked like they got it fresh
from the woods. I was then told afterwards that, whoops, they didn?t have the
kind of rock that I wanted and this was all they had. Well, that would have
been nice to know before I agreed to the estimate and gave them my money! I
also wanted the wall on the side of the garden repaired because the one top
piece of wood was warped. For some reason, they were not able to find a piece
of wood that fit and left my garden unfinished. They took the cost of the wood
and labor off of my bill, but left my garden unfinished and looking horrible.
Now I have to seek out someone else to fix it. Also, they put a mat down under
the river rock to stop weeds and after only 4 weeks we can see multiple weeds
popping through already. By far the worst thing about this company is their
customer service. They only communicate by email, which can be frustrating at
times. When they came out the first time to complete the job, they made some
mistakes with the landscaping and broke my railing with their wheelbarrow. I
then had to wait THREE WEEKS for them to come back and fix the garden and
railing. They kept giving me excuse after excuse as to why they couldn?t come
out to fix it. I find this completely unacceptable- quality businesses should
make it a priority to fix their mistakes and finish prior jobs before starting
new ones. I would avoid this company and look for one that cares more about
their customers.

We do apologize about the mis-communication on the rocks. This is something that should have been explained prior to the installation, and we have noted this as a procedure change going forward. As noted, the rocks in the picture you showed at the initial consultation would have been considerably more expensive, and are not able to tolerate the harsh weather changes of our area. Also, as discussed, a cost effective and durable aesthetic solution is to use either a spray shellac or wet seal for a more shiny appearance. In regards to the wood edge on the garden bed, as communicated, it was not a matter of the top piece of wood fitting. The bottom pieces were warped and not installed property by the initial contractor. If we were to install the new piece of wood on top, there would be no way to match them up, as the foundation was not correct. You would need to start fresh and replace all of the wood, or use a different product. The wood railing was fixed, and we are sorry this was not able to be done within your desired timeframe. On the rare occasion that there is a need to return to a job site, we do always make sure we take care of everything as promptly as possible, however there are several scheduling and weather factors that need to be taken into consideration. As you can see from our overall Angie’s List grade, as well as our other reviews; we pride ourselves on customer service. When the complaint was made about the rocks, we promptly returned your phone call and sent someone to meet with you in person, the same day. We have many customers that prefer email as the primary method of communication, but had we known you did not want subsequent communication via email, we would have called. Thank you."

They came and did the job, but they only did the stump diameter (about 6 ft). Pierce said they didn't feel we needed to go further. Also said they didn't need any topsoil. Said the area might settle a little as we go forward, and may need to add some soil in the future. I thought that was a little odd, since that should have been anticipated with the original estimate. So, I held off on this review to see how it would go.
It's been a few months, and things are going great. Caught a vole digging out there the day after the job, but they must have realized the difference. Haven't had an animal hole or sinking spot since. I still think there might have been a mix up with the crew and the topsoil, but nonetheless, Pierce quickly took that amount off of the job. He gives a great cash discount and, at the time at least, an Angie's list discount. The whole thing cost only $500.
All in all, Pierce was very professional and responsive. He is very quick to get back to you, and very prompt with the service. He could have very easily done an inflated job at my request, rather he was very quick to give money back to me and say, "you didn't need that". Had I known I could have corrected the major issue in my back yard for that price, I would have called Pierce a long time ago. I would definitly use him again.
