In 1958, Samuel Markantone founded the company serving the Greater Pittsburgh area. Not only did Sam’s customers love his wealth of knowledge of the paint industry, but they also enjoyed the quality work he provided for their home. Now carried on by his son, Lucas Markantone, the company retains its values of quality and service, giving each customer’s home attention to detail, proper surface preparation and a superior finished product. Lucas Markantone Painting is considered one of the top painting contractors in the Pittsburgh area. Proudly, we are associated with the Western Pennsylvania Craftsman Guild. Lucas Markantone Painting has preserved historical sites around Western Pennsylvania, such as a National Historic Landmark the Woodville Plantation, the oldest residence in Allegheny County, as well as, Old St. Luke’s Church, which has the distinction of being the oldest church west of the Allegheny Mountains of which building stones used to build it were quarried from Jerusalem. The gentleman was very friendly and incredibly professional. We didn't use him because his price was way too high for us. We felt very confident in him and we think he would have done an excellent job and we wish we had had the money to go with him. He was very nice. We would have gone with him but it was too much money for us.

Everything went very well. They were very professional, their people are super competent, and all around they were a delight to work with. I would highly recommend them to anybody and I intend to do business with them again. They are competent in all aspects of painting. They charge a reasonable amount of money, but you get it in spades.

They were extremely professional. The estimate was written on a professional contract spelling out everything that he was going to do, how he was going to do it and the cost associated with it. The workers were very professional. They moved furniture and covered things. They put everything back exactly where it was. I had to do very little preparation myself. I wasn't even here the day they did most of the painting. I felt comfortable leaving the workers here with my daughters and they worked all day. I can't emphasize enough how professional they were and I didn't have any concern about them making a mistake or getting paint on anything. It was just perfectly done.

He was very expensive. He did the estimate and didn't come back for six or seven months. He gave the estimate in the fall. My husband and I didn't quite go over everything he was supposed to do and we were sort of shocked that he charged a lot of money for things that we thought he should have included, like painting the outside of the gutters and things to go with the rest of the trim. We should have gone over the estimate more thoroughly. His work is gorgeous. He painted the exterior and most of it is trim because we have a brick house. It still looks great. His painters were just wonderful. I was upset about some trim not being done and he came back himself to touch it up.

"The actual estimate date of this exterior job was 1/5/2005 and was accepted on 1/11/2005 with the customer's signature. By signing the contract the customer states they have agreed upon the job specs of which areas to be painted were clearly described and the price was given. Once a contract is signed, exteriors are painted by when the contract was received, then weather providing painting begins; because of a lot of rain that year both in May and June, the job was delayed. After the customer's review of the completed painting, more work was done and no extra charge was billed for their complete satisfaction."

Luke arrived right on time (maybe even a few minutes early) and he was very professional. I liked that he took off his shoes to walk around my house. He got right to work taking notes and measuring the woodwork. We wanted to have all of the doors and trim inside our house painted white. They're currently stained a dark brown color but are in very bad shape because the previous owners were careless with paint. The original staining job was not done very well either. We have a 3-story, 1900 sq. ft. house so there was a lot of trim to be painted. I ended up having a great conversation with Luke and was happy to hear that he treats his employees very well and provides health insurance for them. Unfortunately, he gave us an estimate of about $9,500 to paint all of the trim in our house. The three other companies that came out gave us estimates of $4,800, $4,035, and $2,000. I have no doubt that this company would do an excellent job. If I lived in an historic house or an expensive neighborhood like Shadyside, it would probably be worth the investment. However, my house is located in a blue collar neighborhood and we could not justify spending that much on the paint job.

I've always worked with the best of recommended painters, and this was one of the very best companies. Neat, knowledgeable, thorough, on time, worked the entire time, and very competent. The rooms were better when finished and the walls better prepared than the original work done on the house.

LUKE PROVIDED AN IN-PERSON ESTIMATE AND PAINTING CONSULTATION FOR OUR INTERIOR PAINT JOB. ALTHOUGH WE ARE NOT YET IN A POSITION TO BRING ON A PAINTER (HAVING DISCOVERED TOO MANY OTHER ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED FIRST), LUKE WOULD DEFINITELY BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. HE WAS PROFESSIONAL, ATTENTIVE, COURTEOUS, AND CLEARLY VERY TALENTED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT HIS ART.
