Contacted the owner regarding work needed on my chimney.  We setup a time to meet and discuss the work that needed to be done.  Since he is local to my home, he said that he will be able to work up an estimate in advance by checking it out prior to our meeting.  At the meeting, he produced the estimate of $700 which was right in the area of what I expected the cost to be and explained the work that would be completed in depth.  I agreed to the terms and the contract was signed along with a $200 deposit paid. The owner kept in contact saying that they needed at least 2 days without heavy rain in a row to get the job done.  When they had a clear window, they setup the time.  They (the owner, Jim and his brick/mortar guy, Chris) arrived promptly at 8am as scheduled and after setting up their scaffolding went right to work.  In the process of replacing the bad bricks and rebuilding it, they found two wooden shims that were used to level out the bricks.  After removing the shims, the bricks all shifted and they worked quickly to stabilize the structure and level it off without the need for any further shims.  That unplanned circumstance put them a bit behind and they had to return the next morning to finish. The next morning they again returned promptly at 8am and completed the work in roughly 2 and a half hours.  They helped me up on the scaffolding to check the work and verify that it was done to my satisfaction.  All of the chipped and cracked bricks were removed and replaced with new brick.  The mortar looked fresh and clean around the entire chimney.  The flashing was redone and even brought up a little higher on the chimney then previously.  They even went above and beyond in cleaning out my top gutter while they were up there. The chimney looks much better now and no longer a danger to collapse.  With the rain we have had since the work was completed, there is no moisture coming in upstairs now as there was previously.  We're very pleased with the work and the price.  We've discussed future projects with Jim as time and money permits already and looking forward to getting them all done.
