I picked it up a week later (they usually take a week to fix anything) and the bill was $170. They said that in addition to the bar and new chain they had to replace the spark plugs and a bunch of other parts, the names of which mean nothing to me. They had never called to ask me about the extra repairs. I was annoyed but paid the bill because I had some tree work to do. I brought the chain saw home and it wouldn't cut anything - I Iooked more closely at the chain and it already had burn marks on it - it was obviously not a new chain. When I brought it back to complain, they denied putting a used chain on it and showed me an old bar and chain and told me that they were my old bar and chain (as though this proved anything) and said that they would sharpen it for me (new chains don't need to be sharpened). I took it home again and it wouldn't even start. Just to be open; I had brought it there for new chains two or three times and although they are very slow and in general seem like they don't even try to impress customers, they managed to change the chains and get it back to me in working condition. Although the first time I ever brought the saw in for a new chain, they put the chain on backwards. I finally went to Histand in Doylestown who also service chain saws and it was like night and day -- Histand is fast, professional, polite and didn't even charge me for the first service.
Description of Work: This past time they serviced a chainsaw which I had originally bought from them. I brought it in for a new chain. They called me the next day and said I needed a new chain and a new bar. They said the bar would cost about $40 and a new chain costs about $25.

I am now stuck with a good piece of expensive equipment that I can't use. I wasted $1,700 and will have to buy another mower that is better suited for my yard. It is clear that Moyer & Sons (who boast about their lenghty histroy of providing excellent service) has no intention of accepting accountability for this situation, and they are covering up the truth by saying none of the things I complained about ever happened. If the mower worked as promised, why would I lie and say it wasn't working? What could I possibly gain from that? My impression is that making sales is more important to them than giving accurate, honest advice. In retrospect, I should have gone to Lowe's or Home Depot: they sell the same products for less money, and offer honest, unbiased advice. Save your time, your money, and prevent aggrevation.... don't do business with these people.
Description of Work: I was in the market for a new lawn mower and needed help/advice selecting the appropriate machine. My yard is large and has lots of uneven terrain. Mike Moyer (owner) recommended a Husqvarna riding mower. I did some quick research on the internet before agreeing to the purchase and as a result had 2 concerns based upon a multitude of product reviews: 1- due to the uneven terrain, was there a risk of the mower tipping over, and 2- due to the uneven terrain, would the mower "scalp" the ground. Mike Moyer addressed my concerns by saying that the mower would NEVER tip over, and that this was "the best mower in the market for preventing the scalping problem" I referred to. I trusted him and purchased the mower. Unfortunatley, I am now unable to cut the grass in several areas of my yard; I nearly tipped over on more than one occassion, and the mower scalps the ground routinely when I try to mow over uneven terrain (creates a huge mess and kills gthe grass). Moyer adjusted the cutting deck (which he denies), but it made no difference. When I returned to the store to voice my concerns, Moyer flat out LIED and denied giving me the advice/information referrd to above. A discussion with another employee/owner uncovered the fact that a written warning about the possibility of serious injury from tipping over was supposed to be provided, but I didn't get that information until several months after buying the mower. The owners agreed to come to my house to inspect the yard, but they never showed up. I reported this situation to the Better Business Bureau and Moyer responded by saying I was a liar and that he never said any of the things I reported above. He feels that my complaint/concern about the possibility of injury from tipping and the damage resulting from scalping the ground is "ridiculous" and a "waste of his time".
