 + -1 moreThe service was terrible. The foreman on site was very rude and and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I went over the scope of work and showed him all the areas my husband and I were concerned with. he never looked at me in the face When he spoke to me. When I told him I wanted the yew bush trimmed back to the property line he told me that it would look terrible and would not proceed with the work until I called my husband at work to verify that's what really needed to be done. When I got off the phone with my husband I went outside with my 1 yr old daughter and witnessed him urinating in the truck that contains the wood chips. I noticed the the huge spruce tree in front of my house they were supposed to trim back was not trimmed as much as I'd liked to be. I mentioned this to the foreman and he told me they already trimmed 14 feet off the tree and if the do more the tree would look funny. I told him I was more concerned over the branch hanging over the roof of my house and not the look of the tree. He then told me they were not going to cut more off. I had to call and disrupt my husband at work again. I sent him a picture of the tree so he could see the work that was done. He agreed the tree needed to be trimmed further. My husband spoke to the foreman over the phone and explained the same as I already had. Instead of doing the work we requested he called the estimator that originally came to meet with me. The foreman gave him completely wrong Information. Needless to say the tree did not get trimmed. My neighbor's side of the tree was also supposed to get trimmed. They charged them $380 and only trimmed 4 small brunches. We are all completely dissatisfied with their services and will NEVER use them again.

 + -1 moreI had a great experience with Monster. After having a company come out to trim a large 50'+ oak tree in my back yard, it was determined that it needed to be taken down. Called several other companies for opinions, Monster rep. was very friendly and professional, gave me some options and explained how it would all be done. They even matched an estimate from another company, saving me $200. Of course they wanted a copy of that estimate which I was happy to provide, since it was apparent we were all maintaining an honest, professional relationship. They warned me of the busy season and that it could be several weeks before they could be out to do the work. When they did arrive, they brought the heavy equipment, and a whole crew of guys. Using a crane, and a small man with some chainsaw expertise, they removed the tree in about 30 minutes, between two small houses just feet from the tree. They handled the touchy situation with ease, and were cleaned up and out of there in no time. I had a great experience with them, hopefully you will, too.

 + -1 moreMonster's arborist Tom came and walked the property with me within a week of my contacting him. He was very thorough and instilled confidence with his knowledge of trees and suggestions for not just pruning but planting that might help fill gaps left later. He sat with me and gave me a price on the spot, honored the coupon that I had, and gave a thorough answer when I asked him why Monster vs other providers I had used in the past. I decided to give them a try given their price and Tom's experience and explanation that he would brief the crew BEFORE they started cutting (which I later found out is important given some of the reviews here) and am glad I did. Per our discussion, Monster's office called the day they were coming to advise me but we did not need to be present. I was assured Tom would brief the team and they would complete the work. When I got home the yard looked great. Everything that we agreed to had been done and done well. I was especially pleased with the detailed work they did on the pruning -- removing smaller branches but leaving the larger ones. This took attention and care. I am quite pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Monster did some major storm cleanup for us after the June 2014 windstorms. They removed the top half of a spruce tree that had snapped but not come fully down, did a fairly major pruning job on a silver maple which had some damaged branches, pruned some swamp maples also damaged in the storms, and cleaned up and removed dead branches. They also removed 5 blue junipers that were not thriving in their location.

 + -1 moreI called on Friday the 1st to set them up for an appt. They advised it could be 4 weeks or little as 2 weeks would call day before. They called the following Wed.to let me know trucks in area Thurs the 7th. They arrived 7:30 AM as told, worked all day, I asked if they would give me a limb or two cut up for fire wood plus a slice of the oak for a project which they did. the stump grinding guy said usually he comes 5 to 10 days after trees removed. He was surprised to hear that the trees were only removed that day, most likely due to the quick and efficient work of the tree guys. In front of house where Oak was removed I have ground cover of pachysandra the guy who ran the stump grinding machine via remote control only made two tire tracks is the area...outstanding!! These guys from start to finish know what they are doing. They cleared yard and roof from all debris. Everyone from person first giving estimate to the ladies in the office where very knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend Monster Tree Service.
Description of Work: Removed very large old Oak in front of house plus cutting back of large oak in rear of house. Plus removal of 2 pine trees in back yard plus stump grinding of the 3 trees.

 + -1 moreMonster gave an estimate for about 60% the price of another tree service for evergreens downed by the bad winter. They showed up on time, did just what they were asked, and cleaned up well. They even did some extra work for my neighbor for a modest cash payment. Very satisfied, will call them again when needed.

 + -1 moreThey told me on phone it would be three weeks due to rough winter, but they called much sooner and said he was in our town and could come that afternoon. They asked neighbors to move cars. Impressive crane.. Lifted whole top of tree off an laid it on trailer and fed into chipper that could grind 30 inch diameter trunk. Took down two 60-70 foot trees both of which grew very close to house without touching house or hedges. And very quick; I think less than an hour. Then nice advice on how to preserve hedges which we had to temp move to for them to get stump grinder to stumps. They came back a few days later to grind stumps, which was nicely done to good depth. On tree removal the area was left very clean -- yard, sidewalk and street. Neighbors we all entertained. Awesome! And price was lower than competitor.

 + -1 moreMonster was the third quote I got for the tree work I needed. Was a little disappointed that they would not honor their coupon to beat a competitors price but I ended up going with them because they could do the work sooner. In the end I didn't mind paying the extra because they did a great job, actually doing more than I expected. They left the property in better condition than they found it. The estimator they sent out (Tom) is a certified Arborist and took the time to answer any questions I had. Josh the owner came out when they started the job to make sure everything that was quoted was explained to workers so it would be done right the first time. What else could you ask for, note that I am usually pretty picky about any work I have done but it is hard to find anything that wasn't done well.
Description of Work: Trimmed back some silver maples that were overhanging my house and trailer and cleaned up some storm damage on a white pine tree.

 + -1 moreThe estimate was performed 1 day after we called. We needed 1 tree trimmed due to winter ice storm damage. We also wanted 3 trees cut down and stumps ground . We also had 1 tree we were unsure if trimming or removal was to be the best service, we agreed with the recommendation to remove it as well. The estimate for service was within an acceptable level and a deposit was paid to the office. Within a week a crew of 5 arrived, all the men were professional and efficient. The 4 trees were down, the cuttings were cleaned up, the Willow was trimmed. The men were gone in 2 hours. A few days later the second crew arrived to grind the stumps, again a very professional service. No mess was left at the site.

 + -1 moreService was adequately performed and scheduled faster than expected but I was not aware of the scheduling of service until after they started. I was told the job would be scheduled in a week or two and few days later I got a call that they were nearly finished but wanted to know if I wanted some extra service performed. The work was performed as I would expect but the wood chips from the stumps were not that finely ground. Overall a good job but not the best.

I was happy with the work they did so I wanted them to do the same at my house, but not until the spring so I could have other work done. I came home two weeks before Christmas and they were doing the work. I told the man that wasn't what I had wanted. He basically didn't care so I didn't pay them the rest of their money. Their excuse for doing the work when they did was that they were slow at work. I felt bullied by them.

 + -1 moreOur neighbor who owns a landscaping company had recommended we call Monster. He said Monster has the right equipment to handle very large trees, and he was absolutely right. This team was professional and efficient and did a great job not only with the actual cutting and pruning but also the cleanup. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: We have an old white oak tree on our property. It is in decline and had a number of large, dead branches at the very top. We also had a maple tree that appeared to be dead or dying. We called Monster Tree Service on Monday, April 23 to request an estimate. The certified arborist, Tom, was out later that day. He was extremely knowledgeable and informative. In addition to the two trees we had identified, he found a small cherry tree that was diseased and was posing a hazard to our home and safety. While he was at our house, Tom wrote up a formal estimate, which we promptly approved. Three days later, Tom and the full crew--including the 100+-foot crane--were at our house to perform the work. Two guys came back today to grind the larger stump for us.

 + -1 moreJosh was personable and very informative when we met to go over the scope of the work. I was concerned about a very large split trunk tree and he suggested that we cable it to save it from splitting and the price was very reasonable to save a beautiful large Oak. I was also concerned about the time of year we were having the work done as there was the chance for rain or snow and I didn't want the lawn to be damaged; Josh assured me that they would take care not to damage the lawn. We are very pleased with their work and will definitely use them again when the need arises. Our work was done in mid-December of a rainy month but they were careful not to leave large ruts in the yard. If it weren't for the neatly stacked wood piles (logs already cut to fit in the fireplace) you wouldn't even know they'd been there! I would not hesitate to recommend Monster Tree Service to everyone.
Description of Work: Monster tree removed 3 large trees from our front yard and 4+ very large leader branches from the front, side and back yards, installed a cable system in a large split trunk tree, cleared ,low branches from around the chimney, cut some heavy growth ivy from the base of 2 large trees, and they ground out all the stumps and removed the chips (at our request).

 + -1 moreThere service was horrible as soon as they realized they damaged the place they took off and I had to initiate every phone call after. Except of course when they realized we were not paying them and they wanted there money.
Description of Work: Estimate was in September. We wanted a ballpark number for a few trees that were out of control. Got estimate and left it go we weren't sure when we were going to do the work. While I was at a Political function on SUNDAY October 2nd at around 7:30pm a voicemail was left that Monster would be out at my house Monday morning around 8 am. Now I am a person who grew up in a neighborhood where none did any kind of loud work until 9am or later. I called immediately 8am that Monday morning no one answered in office. I called the cell phone number of the person who called me and they said don't worry we will break down the payments so we could pay it off and they would be there around 11am instead of 8am. They came out and cut one tree down in our backyard and managed to mangle our fence in the process after us homeowners took the time to remove it and keep it out of there way. Not only did they mangle the fence but they knocked my entire rock wall down on the side of my house and exposed the fence post that holds the fence in so we now have to find a fence company to fix it. When they left for the day there was 4 men trying to wire tie my fence together. I have a 70 lb dog who still has to go out on a leash because the fence is not fixed almost 3 months later. SHAME ON YOU. I tried contacting there insurance company but the company will not give me there insurance information and from what I understand they may not be insured. After that they did the 2 front trees and managed to damage my roof, destroy my gutters and not finish elevating the tree. I have talked to them on numerous occasions and JOSH the owner was supposed to come out and look at the house NEVER showed to 4 appointments he had and Jenna his secretary is just as much of a liar as JOSH is. They offered to take $200 off of an $1,800.00 bill for the damage. The gutters along are going to cost $600 not to mention the roof and 30 feet of Vinyl fence. BUYER BEWARE! THEY LIE TO YOUR FACE and act like they want to help you by breaking down payments. Make sure you do not have fencing or houses nearby the trees you want taken down.

 + -1 moreThey were efficient, they came out on time, but they were a bit overpriced. Another company that I called wanted $1,200 to do the work but this guy charged $950. I had limbs on power lines so I had to get it done. They came out and ate lunch on my lawn first which I thought was a little weird. I feel like they could have eaten in the parking lot up the street. They left a small sign that said they had been here but I threw that out. They were satisfactory. They did a nice job, it was just overpriced. There were a lot of trees down in our area so they didn't come out very promptly.

 + -1 moreOverall, they did a good job but I was very annoyed that they excessively trimmed 2 bushes (that now look like an eye sore to my wife and I) because they failed to listen to my instructions which was given both to the owner Josh and the job foreman Ed. Also, they tried (unsuccessfully) to add an additional charge of $150 to the bill for added work when no added work was done. I told them I was unpleased that 3 Arborvitaes on the side of my house were not evenly topped so they did come back and make them even. I would have used them again except for this last incident which crossed the line.

 + -1 moreThe proposal was done in no time. The issue was waiting for them to come and do the actual job. When I agreed to the job and paid my deposit, I was told by the owner that I would have someone at my house in 2 weeks. it was actually closer to 2 months. I was a bit concerned. They continued to promise in a week but that only continued. So the estimating process is good, the tree trimming was done well but waiting for the actual service and being told one day and that never happening is very poor customer service. I think they need to get their work load in control and it is rude not to let people know when you will be there and when you don't show then you need to let them know ahead of time why and when.

 + -1 moreEverything went fine. The tree that they took down was a difficult tree removal job. It was an 80-foot tall tree that was between two houses and it had a lot of dead branches. They had to bring it down a branch at a time. One of the branches did break a branch on another tree on my neighbor's property when it came down. They said that there wasn't a whole lot of room to work in. I am still waiting for them to come back and remove that branch because it is broken and hanging in my neighbor's tree. I understand that the weather has been bad with a hurricane and tropical storm but I am getting a little annoyed since it has been a month. They did acknowledge right away that they were the ones who broke the branch. The person who does the quotes is an arborist. My neighbor had asked me about taking a branch out of one of her trees. He told her that it was an Elm tree and they don't do Elms when they are alive because it kills them. He told her that he was sorry but he couldn't take down that branch for her and that he would put her on his Elm list. He is very knowledgeable and very professional.
Description of Work: Monster Tree Service took down one tree and cut up a tree that was already down on the ground. They also removed a few branches from some other trees.
