Monster Tree Service

They removed a very large oak tree that was very close to my house. At the end of the day the truck for removing the largest pieces was not available so the moved these pieces from the street onto my front lawn damaging the grass in many spots. After they removed these pieces, and I complained about the lawn damage, they sen two guys to repair the spots. They put down two inches of MUD, mostly clay, and threw some seed on top. The grass sprouted but then died since the soil was so poor (and above grade of the rest of the lawn). Then, when they came to remove the stump, they damaged (severely cracking) my front stairs right where the railing goes into the concrete. 3 contractors, including one sent by Monster said a repair would not last due to winter's freeze thaw cycle. It will cost $5K to replace and monster would only compensate my the cost of the stump and grindings removal, $450. They refuse to go through their insurance or negotiate any further.

Took over 2 months for them to come and do the work, and I had to call and pin them to a specific date! Was told take the tree out, agreed ,2 days prior to removal 2 salesmen said we can't do that. One salesmen said the other guy was new and was inexperienced. So keep tree and would call and let us know when. Came out to trim instead of remove as suggested. Problem with branch stopped and will get back didn't hear, called again got Jenna Hilary a smart mouth manager and said it was not within the scope of the new estimate. So instead of customer service all I got was attitude. Jenna Hilary what happened to customer service!! Serious lack of communication, experience and customer service.

You have one very happy customer right here! We had a tree that was unfortunately very very tall and very very dead. I called several company's for quotes. Chris from Monster came out took a look, told us EXACTLY what it would entail to cut it down, provided a quote, BUT was upfront that they probably couldn't get to us until late September early October. He sent us a contract for September/October which we signed. We wanted it done before our house sold and had our fingers crossed. We thought we would have time, but it sold in less than a week last week! Chris said, stay in touch with the office they will keep you in the loop for openings. Well, I got an email from Tabitha that a crew would be in our area yesterday - no promises, but if time allows they would swing by. I was so happy! However, I was even happier with the service! The crew was courteous, quick and cleaned everything up so nicely when done. More importantly, the crew was BRAVE! That tree was sweeping clouds and they were up there - I was so scared! I could not be happier today! Thank you Monster Tree Service - you were incredible!

Good. It was a very big and difficult job. The most impressive thing is they lifted the tree branches over my house but they did not touch the house once.

They are fine, I had no problem. The price was also reasonable.

I have nothing to say about Monster's work.....just their marketing and sales techniques. I was expecting a bid that was 'guaranteed to be 10% lower than the lowest written estimate from any competitor'- as per their local mailer coupon, and their web site...both of which state (in some - not ALL - places) that 'certain restrictions apply' to the -10% offer. One of the "certain restrictions" is obviously; 'unless we don't really like that other quote' I had a written quote, from a well respected local company....and I suggested to the Monster rep that visited me, that I was looking to jump on that -10% offer - only to be told that " sorry, we can't do the job for that". so BEWARE OF THE "10% lower" ******** MARKETING. They Lie !! -10% only if we feel like it....

EXCELLENT! The team quickly and carefully took down the trees, shredded them, and cleaned up all of the sawdust/branches. The adjacent driveway and the area where the trees were are immaculate. I will definitely hire this company again as we need trees trimmed in our backyard.

I urge you to use another company as Monster has two big strikes against them: 1) They came to do the service and one of the crew RIPPED a wired light out of the ground (clearly not a solar light - no panel). It wasn't a casual action; he had to brace himself and yank. Severed the wires. The crew chief came to me and admitted the mistake and said he would report it. The next I got an email from the office manager. "{…} a limb knocked over one of your garden lights. The crew said it looks as though the wire underground was already broken prior to our arrival." I was incensed. Either the crew chief lied to the office manager or she lied to me. The house was on the market for sale, so you'd better believe everything was perfectly functioning. 2) I paid the deposit and after 3 weeks of very little rain, I had to chase them down and remind them to do the job. It was finally done OVER 4 weeks AFTER I paid the deposit. There are more professional and honest companies out there. Seek them out.

They did a great job and I would use them again

Their estimate was quite comparable to other reputable tree services. They completed the work quickly. They had lots of equipment. They did a beautiful job of clean-up.

Great. Did what they promised at a reasonable price. Can't ask for more than that.

They came with a big crew. bucket truck and chipper. Were finished within a few hours. The job is estimated and price is determined by a tree specialist before they start a job. Customer service/billing was professional. All went well.

Monster was great! They responded very quickly. Tom the arborist provided a lot of very good information about several trees on our property. Very happy with the work.

5 men arrived for work a week early at 8 AM. We're retired so were home. Worked quickly trimming, dragged and chipped all branches. Cleaned up yard so no evidence of work was seen. We have used them a number of times including after storm damage. Always courteous, professional and price comparative to other trimmers. Ed Runge was the foreman on our recent crew. He checked with us when moving onto another tree to clarify what we wanted removed. Better than seeing trees 'crew cut' after finished and ready to leave.

Very dissatisfied with work done on Maple tree and Juniper bush. Very little was done to each and Juniper bush was left shapeless. Monster was called and replied that Arborist would call or stop by. Never heard back from anybody and nobody ever stopped by. Will never hire or recommend Monster again.

Josh came out in 24hrs to advise and provided a same day quote. I had called a few other companies that either did not respond or could not schedule an appointment for a number of days. His crew was on time, if not a little ahead of schedule-remarkably polite and even took some additional shrubs i cut without any additional charge. I am extremly happy with all aspects of the interaction from response time, cost and quality of work. Highly recommend.

Great! All work was done in the time window they provided and everything was very nicely cleaned up afterwards.

This is the letter I just wrote to the Owner. I love this company, read the note and it should give you a general idea how it all worked out for me. Thanks S Mr. Skolnick I recently used your services for our tree removal and I have to say that I was quiet pleased with every facet of your company. Beginning with all of your staff (Scott H., Mat, Max, Tim and even the billing staff). Everyone that I dealt with was just such a professional, kind, thoughtful and attentive person. Each were trully committed to providing me the utmost attention, I still cannot believe it. I have to say Max is such a knowledgable individual. He first listened to all of my concerns regarding the trees I thought were dead and/or on the verge of dying. We then walked the property talked about placing cables on trees for safety prevention, and he even expressed his concerns with some trees and made his recommendations on safety removal. Each were spot on! I have dealt with Scott Hillary quite a bit now and I always find him to be quite friendly professional and knowledgeable with billing questions, estimates, and his follow up to my experience before, during and after where just amazing. Mat and his crew came in as promised on time, even a bit early. It dumfounded me because of my experience working with other small tree businesses, landscapers, yardmen who generally came at their leisure or convenience. When Mat arrived we went over all the trees that Max and I had chosen to remove and after that it was all Mat - he just took right over. It was so simple that I really could not believe how safe, efficient, quick, professional, clean, oh wait did I mention CLEAN his whole entire group were. It was like clock work for them, everyone looked as they knew they had a job to complete, what their task was at all times, they cleaned up after each removal, checked to see if I was pleased often and even made sure of my safety. I wasn't even close by the crew however they would still check around and made sure I wasn't around and if I were they waited then continued. I would find myself wanting to check the process out because I find tree removal a work of art and the crew is very talented however they would catch me sneaking a peak and would ask to step back a bit. With every single tree that came down, I would just be floored on how clean, simple and efficient each man worked that I would send a note to friends bragging about your company. I have to say a special thank you to Scott, who asked Tim to follow my schedule on the stump removal. Because of that delay in the stump removal our party was so successful and the yard looked flawless. I had asked Scott to delay the removal because I thought that there might be a mess in the yard because of prior experience with stump removals from other companies. I have to tell you that when Tim finished I was kind of sad that I had waited. He left the area around each stump so clean, that the only reason you know there was a tree missing is because grass was missing. We have a very long drive way and he and his machine were so gentle on the asphalt that after the next rain, all evidence of a stump grinder was gone. Mr. Skolnick, I really appreciate the fact that I wasn't billed until the last step was complete and Scot had asked if I were completely satisfied with the work performed. I have to be honest I would have paid in advance after seeing them just take down the first tree. This just shows how committed you are to your customer and your company. I apologize for taking some time to write this review, I should have written it the day after my services because I can only imagine how most people will jump on a computer to complain but not to recognize a phenomenal job. Please extend my thanks to all your staff and I can't wait to have the rest of the tree work completed in the coming months and please note I plan to use your services for the yearly up keep. Overall, I was satisfied with the job and would recommend Monster (with one caveat that I would explain below). Monster was very competitive in their estimate. Only one other company had a lower estimate (by $100). However, when Timothy Marino came out to give me an estimate, he was the only person to recommend attaching a support cable in the Silver Maple. As Tim explained it, the cable would help stabilize the two major branches spreading out from the base (in a "V" pattern). The cable can only be seen if you know where to look and what to look for. This was why I choose Monster over the slightly lower quote from the other company. When the crew came, they were professional and efficient. Before leaving, they made sure that everything was to my satisfaction. I asked them to trim one or two other small branches they originally missed in the Silver Maple, as well as remove some of the fallen branches that landed on the roof. They did both without any question. My one complaint was the notice the company provided. When I accepted the quote, I did not know that Monster's policy was to provide minimal notice to the customer -- unless instructed otherwise, they may not provide even 24 hours notice. If nobody has to be home, that might not be an issue. If a customer wants to be home (to make sure everything is done to the owner's satisfaction or the customer has to be home to permit the crew access to the home), then Monster's normal policy is not very customer friendly. In my case, the shrubs and the overhanging branches from the neighbor's tree can only be accessed through a locked gate in my fence. The lack of notice caused me to have Monster reschedule the stump clearing crew a few days later.

The work that was done was satisfactory. The initial invoice billed us for removing deadwood from two trees, per the estimate. The people doing the work determined that only one tree needed that service. However, the invoice still included charges to two trees. I contacted them and a corrected invoice was sent, which I paid. Unfortunately, recent rains had made our lawn muddy, and the equipment used to remove tree debris dug into the turf. They promised to return and repair the turf damage. That has never happened. A cherry tree required trimming after blooming. They returned when I asked and did that work. When I received an invoice for the cherry tree, I refused to pay it since the turf damage work was listed as a work-item but had not been done. I have gotten invoiced repeatedly for the cherry tree work, and each time I have refused to pay until the turf damage is fixed. Although I have contacted them by e-mail each time, and promises were made to do the turf repair, it remains undone.

I have used Monster tree several times, this was the biggest job by far. I left a message for an estimate on Monday three hours later they called . Max came out on wed we discussed what needed to be done wrote up the estimate and booked. Max said it could take a week. Thursday night got call that they would be next day. They did with a crane ,chipper a bobcat and a crew of five men. they started work at 8 :30 am and finished at approximately 1:30pm They were extremely careful of all my surrounding neighbors properties and my property. They clean up and moved the logs from the trees to front of my property for the log truck which came on Monday; unfortunately it was too far away to make it on Friday.

They were terrific and reasonable. The work was fabulous.

Got four quotes for tree removal - 3 from Angie list and one from neighbor who had tree removed. After first 3 quotes I knew I was not going with person who did neighbors. I was going to go with one provider who had informed me either a new gate entrance would be needed or would need to remove one panel of the chain link fence in order for machine to get access to tree in back. I was going to go with this estimate which was 3,000 knowing I would be spending around 600 for wider fence access. When received quote from Monster. I asked and they said I did not need to do anything to fence as they would use a crane that would go over the phone/electric wires. (After power turned off). Quote was 3,680 (later reduced by100) so I decided to go with them as I would not have to change fence or find another company to increase gate entrance. Crew came and removed trees- my brother said they were great as I was out of state the day they were onsite in Sept. ( I give this part an A if it was an option) Crew came day or two after for grinding but unable to access with prior fence gate even though I had asked during original quote if anything would need to be done with gate for access. My brother was home and was told would hear from Monster on gate issue but I never received email/phone call. Had new fence gate built & installed at cost of $600 (Backyard Medic who did great job- see review) I contacted Monster to notify new gate installed (Oct) - received $100 reduction in quote. Was told stump grinding crew could show up at any time. I asked to be notified day in advance when stump grinding would be so we could make sure our large dog would not be out back when crew onsite. I had received message that would be out Oct 27th but did not come that day. Contacted mid November and did not hear back. Sent email on Dec 1st and heard back on Dec 3 they would be out week of Dec 7-13 but did not come out I assume due to wetness on ground. Did come out Dec 16th had grinded stump.
