We had house sewage backing up in the basement, called Mr. Rooter and they were there within the time frame they provided. Discovered the house trap needed replaced. Promised they would return the next day to get up operational. Very little communication. Early afternoon someone finally showed up and then immediately left, due to the weather conditions. Another crew returned the next day to dig up the old house trap. I was promised that they would clean up the yard when done, and the only thing not covered was replacement of shrubs. During the digging I questioned whether they needed to support the front walk since the digging was removing a 10 foot wide span of the walk, and approximately 8 foot deep. I was told it was not necessary. The repair went well, other than trying to sell me on a complete sewer line replacement for another $15,000. After the repair, there was still a pile of dirt and gravel in the front yard, as well as damage to the grass of our yard and the neighbors yard where the heavy machinery was brought in. At the time it was acceptable to allow for the settling and the yard to dry out. It has now been close to seven months since the job was finished, I still have a pile of dirt and gravel in the front yard, damaged grass in two yards, and my front walk is buckled in. In retrospect, the $6500 charge was excessive, especially considering the service provided, probably as much as twice what the cost should have been. I first wrote this on the Uniontown, PA Mr. Rooter page, I have moved it to the Bethel Park, PA Mr. Rooter page since this was the location providing the service. Since the original review, we have called them numerous times (at least) five, with a different story each time; the job manager will call you back, we'll send a crew to look at it, a crew is coming this week to repair, we gave assigned a formal complaint number. Bottom line is no one has been to the site since the original work to perform any further work. They might have made a visit to see the extent of conditions, if so, they were probably scared away by the cost of the repair. Presently, there exist a hazardous condition in our front yard for anyone that uses the walk, from falling on the deformed walk, to the walkway caving in while walking on it. One lesson I learned, never pay this company in full until you are satisfied with the work. At best I would offer half the price until the job is complete.

See above. After the stoppage Police ordered the dangeroous hole filled to within 2ft from the top. Weeks passed no effort from company to solve problem. After many calls made by me to company, 2 manager came to site and offered solutions that never came to pass, even though they sounded so believable. As a consiquence I have paid a deposit of $6,000.00 which they will not return and am now filing a complaint with the Attorney General's Office. I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income and it was difficult for me to get loans to pay for this water retention pit from water coming into my garage and basement. To treat a consumer, who in trust and good faith, believed this company could solve my problem, their lack of honesty, integrity, not to mention compedence, was and is a company that should not be in business.
Description of Work: Dug a water retention pit without getting proper permits and was stopped by the code enforcement officer same day and let the 10x10x8ft deep hole open and never returned to finish the job. It has been over 1 month and a half and they left me with a dangerous huge hole in my back yard.

The technician didn't do anything, but unscrew the bolts and plug in the pump. My husband did everything else. There were two technicians and neither cleaned up after the mess they made. My husband was told he could use bleach. We asked about the fee before sending a tech out and they said they couldn't give an estimate it was charged by the job not by the hour. They did not do 224 worth of work. This information was given to customer service today.
Description of Work: Provider was called out to check our grinder pump he had my husband put on gloves to pull the pump out. He tested the pump by plugging it in he splashed sewage water on our floor. He said that the pump was fine but there was something blocking the pump. My husband pulled out the item blocking it the pump was put back in and they left the sewage water for us to clean up. They charged us 224.00 for the diagnostic fee for about 10 minutes of work.

First, I have called multiple times and have been unable to get resolution or a phone call back. On June 20, one of the company technicians was sent to the property in question to perform both a lateral sewer camera inspection and a dye test for a home in a real estate transaction. Prior to scheduling the appointment, we made numerous phone calls to customer service to verify the appointment and requested services. These calls were made because a week prior, we had an appointment for the same services at 9 am and no one showed up. We called every 45 minutes for an update and were continually told, "you are next on the list." The technician was #521. When the technician arrived, he informed me that he had no idea what he was supposed to do and when I explained the lateral camera test and the dye test, he told me he needed to leave to get the materials for the dye test, but that he couldn't do the camera test because he didn't have a camera. He left for 45 minutes and returned with another technician. He suddenly remembered that he had the camera and in 15 minutes, they completed the camera inspection of what I think was the neighbors sewer line. After I asked multiple times about the dye test and the forms required for the borough of Brentwood, he said he wasn't allowed to do either and he left. I was charged $550 for a lateral camera inspection of the WRONG sewer line and the dye test was not performed. Also, the paperwork I presented was NEVER returned to me or to the borough. As I said. I have called multiple times, requesting to speak to a manager. I have filed a BBB complaint and it is being investigated. PLEASE don't use this company. They are really as bad as it gets.
Description of Work: I requested that this company perform two specific inspections for a real estate transaction, a lateral sewer camera inspection and a dye test. As it turns out, they inspected the neighbor's sewer line and didn't do the dye test.

Our house had developed a sewer blockage, with some sewage backed up from the basement floor drain. Because I was at work, my wife researched on-line for plumbers in the sewer cleaning business. Eventually she noticed and contacted HomeAdviser.com. Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Pittsburgh (Cranberry Township) responded quickly and a representative, Mark Loughran, soon arrived at our house to give a free estimate. He decided, without internal inspection, that our new sewer lateral had settled and developed a "belly." The only treatment would be a Hydro-scrub with $895 payable in advance. My wife contacted me by phone, and because of the back-up and his assurance that a belly was the problem, we agreed to have him do the work. He also contracted to come back between 11:00 and 1:00 on June 11, to perform the video examination and show us where the "belly" was located. The truck later arrived, but in trying to hydro-scrub from the house to the main line, he was unsuccessful, which made me wonder if the problem really was a belly in our lateral. (The main sewer is also much lower than our house.) It is very possible that our new sewer line had not developed a belly, and that we were sold a service much more expensive than other means of clearing sewers, especially since the problem didn't appear to be from the house to the sewer main under the street. To clean out from the basement drain, he backed up our driveway, tearing two major branches off our tree. (There was plenty of hose to do the job without backing an additional 20 feet.) Mark Loughran failed to keep our appointment,, to do the video cam of the sewer's ingerior and when called the next day, he blamed the secretary, and promised to call and make a new appointment. He has failed to answer voice mail messages since that day. My wife relied in part on HomeAdviser's 4+ of 5 stars rating and their fast response for a free estimate. I see now that other sites are MUCH less kind to Mr. Rooter. (Current BBB Rating: "F") http://www.bbb.org/pittsburgh/business-reviews/plumbers/mr-rooter-of-pittsburgh-in-cranberry-twp-pa-12002891/ By the way, the HomeAdviser feedback page seems to reject poor reviews. Other consumers have complained about this lack of accepting negative feedback, from my on-line readings. This might explain the 4+ stars rating for Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, Cranberry Township.
Description of Work: Provided Hydro Flush using a special truck to unclog drain. Broke 2 major limbs from my tree. Failed to adhere to follow-up appointment to video-cam the sewer line. Has failed to responfto telephone voice mail messages.

Oroginally, they were going to be there in 2 hours to perform the service. (Approx 4:00 pm) Then they changed it and were going to be there betwenn 7:00 and 9:00 that evening. When I called to check at 8:30, someone was going to be there in one hour. When I called again at 10:00, the technician had "vehicle problems" but was on his way. At that time, I cancelled the service. I was not comfortable that I was being treated honestly and fairly. I asked that night to please be notified of the cost for only the original technician visit where the diagnosis was done and the quote was given. I was told a manager would call me back that night or the next day. I did not receive a call. I saw on my credit card that the entire charge of $895 had been posted to my credit card that day. I called again 2 days later and was told that they would talk to accounting about reversing the charges and get back to me. They did not call back. I called again one week after the initial charges and asked to speak to a manager. I was told again that a manager would call me back but none has. I have filed a complaint with the BBB but wanted to warn everyone not to contract with this provider. They still have not responded or refunded the money that they charged me for a service that was never performed. They have not treated me honestly and fairly and should not be trusted.
Description of Work: The provider billed me $895.00 but did not show up to perform the work. The initially quoted a cost of $895. When I agreed, they raised the cost to $6500. When I refused, they decided the $895 service would fix the problem after all. I have called 3 times in the last week to have my money refunded. They will not let me speak to a manager and keep promising that one will call me back but that has not happened yet.

I think that the work itself was fine but then I was told that they charged me $800+ to bring the camera down to my location and then $300+ to blow out the line. I called the local phone number because I like to work within my neighborhood, and was never told that the company was based out of an area other than my own (even though they were approximately an hour an a half away and they charged me extra to bring things back and forth). I feel like I was taken advantage of as a woman.
Description of Work: They diagnosed a clogged downspout from the ground level, underground. They said I needed to have a trench dug and new pipe laid. The downspout was clear above ground, but not underground. They came the next day, dug the trench, laid the pipe, and supposedly brought a camera down to take a picture, they also supposedly blew out a line. The next day, they came for one hour, filled in the trench and left. They worked a total of 10-12 man hours.

Long story short: We had a backup in our line that was causing sewage to come up into our basement. We called Mr. Rooter. They told us that we needed a hydroscrub at a cost of $750. Because we had this problem 4 months prior that was supposed to have been fixed by them, we were dubious and concerned that the hydroscrub may also not work. One of their specialists, Mark Loughran, convinced us that we would no longer have any problems after this hydroscrub. They also said we would be under a 3 year warranty and they would fix any problems free of charge for the next 3 years. Because of this guarantee, we had the hydroscrub done. 10 months later, when our drain backed up yet again, we called them to fix it. They said we were under warranty and came and fixed it. When I went to sign the papers, they said the warranty was now null and void after servicing it again. I told them this was a 3 year warranty and we were specifically told we were covered for the next 3 years if it clogged again at any point no matter the amount of times. They denied thatās how the warranty worked. I refused to sign the paperwork. Please do not contact or trust this company. Their specialists lie in order to make a sale with bogus warranties and they are well known to be scam artists with a huge number of complaints against them throughout the country, (just google ācomplaints against Mr. Rooterā).
Description of Work: Performed a jet hydroscrub on our basement drain after 2nd backup in 4 months.

They were friendly & courteous on the phone. The technician showed up on time. Everything about them was fine, except the price. They charged $1600 to replace a 40-gallon hot water tank. I could go to Home Depot or Lowes & get a new one for $600 installed. I get it that there's a premium to having them come to you, but that premium should NOT be $1,000. These are plumbers, not doctors. I will never use Mr. Rooter again.

It cost us twice as much as it should have been but all of the service was okay. They did the job but it was over priced. We should have got other prices so I guess I have to take the blame for that. We even have three or four issues after they finished the job. They did the first issue but they will have to charge us afterwards; that's how we found out that we could have the same thing done for much less.
Description of Work: I used the plumbing service of Mr. Rooter. We called them to unclogged our drain and it turned out that we needed to have our whole sewer replaced. They dug our basement and replaced the entire sewer line.

Part 2 I was wrong! Exactly one week after Mr. Rooter completed the projects, the sewage backed up into the basement and created a more extensive mess than previous backups due to the false sense of security provided to us by Mr. Rooter that they had successfully solved our problem. Mr. Rooter was called to address the situation and, in response, they sent out a hydrojetting truck. The hydrojetting truck ran pressurized water through the line, assured us that we should be fine, and left. One week after Mr. Rooter's hydrojetting truck came, the sewage backed up into the basement again. Mr. Rooter was contacted about the second backup, to which they responded by sending out another hydrojetting truck. The African American gentleman from the hydrojetting truck claimed that we had a "soft clog." For a "soft clog," he had a very difficult time trying to clear it. His hydrojetting stream rose up out of the clean out approximately 3 or 4 stories like a geyser. He told my daughter that had never happened before and that he didn't know why it was doing that. My daughter decided to call the township to come out to evaluate the line as should've been done from the beginning. The township arrived as the Mr. Rooter hydrojetting truck technician waited around to see what the township was going to say. The township sent a camera up their main line and hydrojetted it. I specifically recall that the Mr. Rooter technician asked a township employee if the section of my home's lateral sewer line could be replaced from where Mr. Rooter's work stopped to the main. The township employee told him, No." Then, the township sent a camera up my home's lateral sewer line and couldn't make out what the blockage was. The township decide to go ahead and hydrojet my home's lateral sewer line from the clean out (where Mr. Rooter's work ended) to the main. The Mr. Rooter Hydrojetting technician told my daughter that the township has better equipment and should be able to get the sewer line flowing. Additionally, the Mr. Rooter tech told my daughter that he was afraid of getting the hose stuck in the sewer line and having to pay to get it removed. Prior to the township hydrojetting my home's lateral sewer line, the Mr. Rooter technician left. One week after the township's intervention, another sewage backup occurred. I decided to skip calling Mr. Rooter, yet again, for a problem that they are obviously unqualified to address. Instead, I called the township. The township arrived at my home and, as a courtesy, camera inspected the work that Mr. Rooter had completed in order to be sure that it was done properly. The township determined that it was. They proceeded to hydrojet my home's lateral sewer line from the clean out located near the basement door to the main sewer line. On this visit, they did not camera to check that the line was clear; however, they observed flow and thought that it was good to go. In order to address the regular frequency of sewage backing up into my basement, the township decided to make an appointment to clean out my home's lateral sewer line using the camera to make sure that any blockages are cleared and to be sure that no additional work on my home's lateral sewer line was necessary. In a letter to Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh, sent on 1-22-2012 from my daughter's email account, states exactly what frame of mind we were and are still both in. We are angry and extremely dissatisfied to have paid $19,500 for a sewer line replacement/sliplining process that was supposed to be done up to within 2' of the main (it wasn't), and then find ourselves no better off than before we signed the invoices to have the work done. Mr. Rooter didn't do anything to solve the problem in which they were contracted to solve. Apparently, upon receiving my daughter's email, Earl decided to show up at the house the following day just a few hours before the township arrived to do a camera-assisted clean out. First of all, I don't recall (and neither does my daughter) inviting Earl to park his van in the back yard. In fact, I didn't even know anyone was on my property. That is, until we noticed a man walking across the porch, and then peering in the windows like a "Peeping Tom." It took a few minutes with my daughter looking to realize that it was Earl. I opened the door to find out what he wanted. He wanted to sell me a $5,000 back flow preventer, claiming that it was the only way to prevent sewage from backing up into my basement again. At that point, my daughter and I informed him that the township would be here in a few hours. My daughter made sure he didn't touch anything (that we know of). My daughter also recalls how Earl spent quite a bit of time walking around talking on his cell phone before he finally left. After the township had arrived to camera inspect and clean my home's lateral sewer line (of grease), they determined that everything was fine. Since the TOWNSHIP cleared the grease out of MY HOME'S LATERAL SEWER LINE, the line that I am responsible for and that you were contracted to restore flow to (but didn't), there has been NO SEWAGE BACKUPS in a little over 9 MONTHS! Furthermore, I am extremely unhappy with the fact that the concrete slab in front of the outside basement door has a crack running where the old concrete meets the new concrete. When they first did it, it looked fine; however, after it dried, it cracked. The remainder of the concrete slab should've been jackhammered and re-poured as it was obvious that no bonding agents were appropriately applied. Another thing that I am not happy about is that the drain for the basement shower was moved from its original location, making it hard to find a new shower base. All I had to do in order to use that shower (prior to excavation), was to replace the plumbing. Now I have to worry about moving the drain or custom forming the shower base. I really need to have access to a shower. The tub is extremely difficult for me to use. In conclusion, NONE?.I repeat NONE of the work that Mr. Rooter did contributed to solving the problem of sewage backing up into my basement. Mr. Rooter engaged in the following behaviors: high pressure, misleading sales tactics; breech of contract; and the inadequate completion and delivery of services. UPDATE: It appears that Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh couldn't even handle properly installing the "no charge" toilet about 13 months ago, which actually cost $400. The toilet wobbles, it isn't shimmed on the uneven concrete surface it is sitting on in the basement, and the seal is broken rendering the toilet unusable. This confirms, for me, that consumers can't count on quality workmanship from a Mr. Rooter location. What they can expect is that employees could make your home dangerous....If my Mother (who is 61 years old, has osteoporosis and balance issues, and has had two hip surgeries) would have unexpectedly discovered that wobbly toilet instead of me, then she could have been hurt badly. Here we thought my Mom bought a $20,000 toilet....She didn't even get that because they just took her money and gave her nothing at all in return. An independent video inspection confirms that Mr. Rooter breached the terms of the contract. To date, everyone from the franchisee to corporate has refused to take responsibility for their actions and are not willing to make right their very serious and very wrong actions. Choosing Mr. Rooter may be the biggest mistake of your life - It was ours! Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh/Mr. Rooter of Cranberry is dispatched throughout Western PA (Locations Served Include: Allegheny County, North Hills, South Hills, Beaver County, Ambridge, Butler County, Butler Cranberry, Washington County, Washington, Canonsburg, Westmoreland County, Greensburg Irwin...Within each county contains many more cities, towns, boroughs, villages, etc. that could potentially be served by this location)
Description of Work: Part 1 On 12-24-2011, Mr. Rooter was called to address the issue of sewage backing up into my basement. Joe agreed with the previous plumber that a cleanout was necessary to accommodate a larger snake. I also purchased the "Valued Customer Protection Plan" to receive discounted pricing on future services. The stack that was installed was greasy, filthy, and looked like it was pulled out of someone else's sewer line. A few minutes after installing the cleanout and into the drain cleaning process, Joe claimed that he was unable to get the snake very far into the line. He told me that he would ask his buddy Earl to come out and camera the line the following morning as a courtesy. At the time I didn't think about it, but I remember Joe telling my daughter and I that he would deny it if we mentioned that he did that. I thought that it was a joke. It is important for you to realize that the camera inspection, performed on 12-25-2011, and the diagnosis given of "draining slow" was made PRIOR to signing any invoice agreeing for work to be done. At no time did Earl explain the reason why the line was "draining slow," other than it was clogged. Earl claimed that he could not get the camera past the same point in the sewer line that Joe claimed that he could not get the snake past. My daughter and I were under the impression that we had licensed master plumbers reviewing the situation and believed that their recommendations would solve the problem. Prior to signing the invoice and my rights away under the FTC, my daughter asked Earl multiple times if the sewer line replacement he suggested was going to solve the problem and he assured her that it would. My daughter informed me that after signing the invoice, Earl and Joe got shovels and started digging. She also stated that they made a statement that concerned her in how they broke the news to her with regard to what needed to be done to fix the problem. "Be prepared to sign away your life savings. You need a complete sewer line replacement." Upon reviewing the invoice, there is no display of what the prices were for each service performed within the contract (camera, hydrojet, replacing approximately 30 feet or less of the sewer line). If you refer to the first invoice, there are task numbers possibly indicating that those are the jobs in the price book; however, nothing like that exists on invoice 105738 written on 12-25-2011. Everything is lumped together for $10,000. Furthermore, there is no evidence that I received the membership pricing that I was entitled to according to the "Valued Customer Protection Plan" as purchased the previous evening. After signing invoice 105738, my daughter went to check THTMA's website in order to be sure we were in compliance with their stated processes, especially after just relocating back to the area from NY. On the website, they specifically state to CALL THEM FIRST. The THTMA stated that they inform the homeowner if they need to contact a plumber. My daughter and I had never experienced sewer line problems in any home that we lived in; therefore, we entered into the agreement based on the recommendation of who we believed were "licensed master plumbers." Earl showed up before the excavation crew on 12-26-2011. My daughter and I explained her findings on the township's website and expressed our concerns about signing for work that the township should've been called in to assess FIRST. In response, Earl told my daughter and I that township's website was wrong and that we were supposed to call them first. I was also reminded that my daughter (with my permission) already signed the contract and that the contract was paid in full, locking me into the work stated on the invoice. On 12-26-2011, my daughter was overseeing the work, asking questions and reporting all actions performed by Mr. Rooter employees to me with photos and videos. When it was safe for me, I ventured to check in as often as possible in addition to receiving updates from my daughter. During the course of the first part of the excavation, my daughter and I figured that since the basement floor was already getting torn up that it would be easy to add a toilet. Steve told my daughter to ask Earl about the toilet when he came to camera the line the following day, 12-27-2011. On 12-27-2011, the hydrojetting truck came to pressure wash the inside of the sewer line for the first time. After the hydrojetting procedure was completed, Earl arrived to camera inspect the line. The camera inspection revealed a yellow #2 pencil, a 9-volt Energizer battery, and a clog. Due to the proximity of the neighbor's trees to where the clog was in my home's lateral sewer line, Earl said that there could be "possible root damage" as he claimed that he could not get the camera past the point identified in the yard to the main sewer line. So, basically, Earl NEVER performed a full camera inspection of my home's ENTIRE lateral sewer line as implied from the previous invoice, "camera outside sewer." The full length of the home's lateral sewer line, the part of the sewer line that I am responsible for as the homeowner, was supposed to be fully inspected and diagnosed by Mr. Rooter. Earl told my daughter and I that the only way to solve the problem, once again, was doing a full sewer line replacement on the rest of the sewer line, approximately 50 feet or less, for around $12,000-$15,000 in addition to the first invoice. I told them, "No." My daughter asked what other options were available to address the problem of the sewer line being clogged (She did research after the first invoice and knew about the different processes relating to sewer line restoration, but allowed Earl to talk.). Earl told us that there was a liquid that could line the sewer in the ball park of around $5,000-$7,000 that only carried a 1- year warranty. So, they wanted $5,000-$7,000 for a sewer line restoration procedure that wasn't guaranteed to last. Pass. The only reasonable option that I thought I had at that time was to authorize the pipe burst procedure that Earl said would cost about $8,000-$9,000 and came with a 50-year warranty. Earl explained the the pipe burst procedure (actually, a slip lining procedure. pipe bursting is pulling a new smaller diameter pipe into the place of the existing pipe while a machine breaks up the old pipe.) entailed inserting a 4" pipe into the existing 6" pipe that would be untouched. The $8,000-$9,000 is what Earl quoted for the procedure before my daughter insisted that he go get the price book, so that we could be certain that I was receiving the membership pricing that I paid for on 12-24-2011. Earl retrieved the price book and pointed to two jobs within the book. One of the jobs was supposedly given the membership price which was $4300. What the price is actually attached to is not defined within the invoice. The other price was $5200 and it was not given membership pricing consideration because Earl said that we were getting a toilet at no charge. At the time and under stress from moving and having sewage backing up into the home, I didn't think about the relationship between Earl's verbal statements to us and what he actually wrote down in the invoices. It became clear when evaluating the invoices and the experiences with Mr. Rooter after Mr. Rooter failed to remedy the problem of sewage backing up into my home. Earl told me that he was going to give me something that he didn't. The price difference between the actual price of the job that he pointed to in the price book and the membership price was $400; thus, he charged $400 for the toilet he claimed that we were getting at "no charge." The toilet was not free as the invoice states; therefore, Earl and Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh lied on a business contract; hence, committing fraud. Upon closer inspection of invoice 105742, it actually states the following: "replace outside sewer stopping 2' shy of main. bed oil pipe in gravel. additional cost 9500. prior cost 10,000. new job total 19,500. all cost are cpp discounted. installing new toilet no charge due to cpp membership. paying 9500 by check." First of all, understanding Mr. Beall's lawyer's confusion upon reviewing the contract, it does state that replacing the rest of the sewer line occurred; however, the bed oil pipe was the 4" black pipe that my daughter had mentioned was installed according to the information supplied to her by Steve. Another inaccuracy would be that this pipe was imbedded in gravel (possibly the pipe burst that didn't happen), but it wasn't. This pipe was installed inside the existing 6" clay pipe as part of a slip lining process, not a replacement. Upon completion of the job on 12-30-2011, I was under the impression that the sewage backup problem had been adequately resolved as promised by the employees of Mr. Rooter of Pittsburgh.

The technician called and reported that he was unsuccessful unclogging the drain and that he found two major blockages that he could not clear. He stated that the house sewer line had major structural deficiencies and that the entire sewer line needed replaced for a cost of $20,000. The next day I hired a second plumbing company and they were able to snake the sewer line and had it cleared in 5 minutes. I contacted the company twice to address my concerns with management and no one from Mr. Rooter returned my call. I also filed a complaint with the BBB and am filing this report here in a hope that others are not defrauded Mr. Rooter company.
Description of Work: I hired Mr. Rooter (412) 322-4106 to free a clogged sewer line at a property that I own in Pittburgh PA. They were paid to inspect and clear the line.

Snaking did not work. Mr Rooter plumber said pipe was damaged and would require tearing up basement floor and replacing section of pipe. Estimated cost $3800. I called another plumber. Second plumber snaked drain from outside house and restored sewer function in less than an hour. His comment, "They aren't about trying. They are about digging." Buyer beware. Get a second opinion.
Description of Work: Unsuccessfully snaked clogged basement drain. Ran camera through the line and tried very hard to convince me that drain required an emergency repair that would have cost $3800.

Sewage was backing up through my garage floor drain on Memorial Day weekend. My house was under contract to be sold soon, so I wanted a quick clearing of the drain to get things back into working order. Instead of calling a licensed master plumber, I called Mr. Rooter, since they advertise 24/7 service. My wife called the number on the website and described the problem. They said someone could come out within an hour. 2 hours later, a guy come in, looks at my (now dry) garage floor and says it will be $95 to sanke the drain. I say ok. He grabs his equipment, snakes a line in my garage (not where the water was coming out, but a line next to the baked up drain). He says he can't get the snake past a certain point, somewhere under my basement, and tells me I have a major problem. He puts his camera down the line to the point in question. The screen goes black, and he tells me that's another sign of a major problem. He runs some device along the floor of my basement where he thinks the problem is and says that his machine is picking up a break in the line. In order to fix the blocked pipe, he would need to jackhammer my basement floor to 3.5feet deep and dig up my sewer line. I'm a little taken aback. He wants to put me on the schedule to start the excavation the next morning. I balk a bit, and tell him if we decide to do it, I'll call back to schedule. So I pay him $95, and he leaves. The next morning, I call a plumber who I've used in the past for other jobs. The master plumber comes and unclogs my drain in 20 minutes. This plumber snaked the drain line from my basement (distal to where Mr Rooter said my problem was and not even the same line that Mr. Rooter was working on). The real plumber runs a lot of water down my drains to ensure the problem is fixed. So, in the end, I paid Mr. Rooter $95 to snake the wrong line and attempt to extort $3800 from me for a bogus repair. I hate to imagine how things would have gone if I had trusted the Mr. Rooter employee. I would have paid a huge amount of money to fix a problem that didnt exist and then still be stuck with a clogged garage drain. After my experience, I started to read some of the reviews on Angies List. A lot of the stories sound exactly the same as mine. I was fortunate enough not to listen to Mr. Rooters recommendations. The employee I dealt with was either completely incompetent or was a complete fraud just trying to get me to pay a huge sum of money for work that did not need to be performed. Maybe it was a little of both. Regardless, I will never, ever use their service again, even for a simple clogged sink.

I have been waiting years to write this. It was Memorial day weekend 2007 (Saturday). I had a sewer backup directly in front of my garage. Mr Roter said the sewer line was cracked (about 6 feet) and would need to be replaced. The initial estimate was about $4,500. Since it was a long weekend, I decided to go ahead with it because it would be 2-1/2 days before I could get a second estimate. Later on that Saturday, after digging up my driveway, they said the crack went on for about another 8 feet and said it would cost a total of $9,100. They initially wanted to go all the way to the street at a cost of $14,000 but I balked and they than said the 14 foot repair should do it. Knowing that they had me over a barrel, they wouldn't negotiate a single penny... I was fuming but what could I do???? They DID do a good job but I was told afterward by another plumber that the most it should have cost me was about $5,000, taking into consideration the holiday weekend. I would NEVER RECOMMEND MR ROOTER FOR ANYTHING...they overcharge not a little but BIG TIME! I just updated this as I cannot fail a contractor on price alone. They DID come to my home on a holiday weekend; they DID essentially complete the work in ONE day (they came back a couple of days later to repave the hole in the driveway and they DID do a GOOD and PROFESSIONAL job. Their price was very high but one does need to take all factors into consideration.
Description of Work: new sewer line from garage to center of driveway...about 14 feet....$9,000!!!!
In conclusion, NONEā¦.I repeat NONE of the work that Mr.
Description of Work: Part 1: On 12-24-2011, Mr. My elderly parents called Mr. Rooter when they had a back up of raw sewage in their garage & laundryroom. It was after hours so they called Mr. Rooter because they advertise "no overtime" 24/7 service. Joe (who is a salesman) came out first then one of their workers came & was able to open the drain at a cost of $95, however, Joe explained that they could use the toilets & sinks temporarily but that they needed to replace a trap for an additional $3,505. Because Joe deemed the situation an "emergency" he then had them sign to waive their right to cancel the service within 3 days. The next day when they came to replace the trap (even though the clog was cleared) Joe approached my parents with video in hand & told them he had ran a camera thru the line & that he found it cracked at 30' then gave the a price of yet an additional $5500 to install a liner. At this point my parents, thankfully, told Joe not to close anything up they wanted a second opinion. Not one but two other plumbers (Nave Plumbing) & (McVay Plumbing) both of Penn Hills came out to evaluate the problem, McVay ran a camera & found the entire sewer completely intact, both plumbers never saw a cast iron trap rust out as Joe had articulated to my parents. Nave plumbing said once the clog was cleared that should have been the end of it & McVay said he would have done the same service, if truly needed, for $500, my parents had to shell out $3600 to Mr. Rooter. When my parents informed me of this debacle I called Mr.Rooter & was told that Joe's supervisor was unavailable & would return my call...still haven't heard from Brian. I had also left a message for Joe on his cell p[hone & received a return call which really didn't amount to much, I complained that he created a sense of urgency with my parents about the trap needing replaced immediately & that he took advantage of their age by having them sign to waive their right to cancel the service. Joe also insisted that the line had a break even though the other plumbers said "not so". Joe called me again the following morning to offer to show me the video of the break, he didn't offer to camera it with me standing there. Well now the Attorney General's office has been informed, if we don't get satisfaction we're off to Small Claims Court. Moral of the story....never have ANY type of service done without first checking Angie's List, and always get a second opinion BEFORE signing away your rights.

Very responsive and showed up quickly. The gentleman that assisted was very professional. He unclogged the pipe, but determined that an external sewer line had collapsed that required further work. The estimate was $5000. We found another company to perform the work for half the cost. Also, the area that was identified where they were going to dig was actually 20ft from where it needed to be dug. Going through concrete and such would've posed a big problem had I have them perform the work.

Hired them on an emergency. They arrived quickly, the work was done well, for what we can tell. They came back to check and were very helpful. The first bill for cabling seemed reasonable, the hydro-scrubbing then was way more expensive, and the estimate for digging up the front yard (which was eventually required) was the highest we've seen (we eventually got a number of estimates for that), even after previous payments for hydro-scrubbing were applied to the total.
Description of Work: Snaking and hydro-scrubbing of sewer line
if you have a simple clog give em a call in an emergency if they tell you they need to do anything else get a second opinion and like a nice plumber later told me unless I have raw sewage backing up on your floor and it isn't going down then worry ... a little.. don't panic good bunch of guys that were here doing the work, company is just too expensive....wish i knew then what I know now. believe it or not I have heard horror stories even worse than mine.
Description of Work: I had just purchased a home in Sept. 2010 and started having back ups in my laundry room a few months later, I figured no problem I had a home inspection and it had passed the test so i borrowed the snake from work and cleared a few roots and such from the line outside. The line was good for a week or two and it backed up again but this time just from the drain in the driveway. So once again i snaked the line thinking maybe i didn't get everything. (house was built in 1970) ...Well to shorten the story it backed up again so I phoned a few different plumbers but Mr. Rooter was the only one to get back to me. So Earl showed up and snaked the line and ran the camera down the line finding roots in a number of places so it started out I believe at about 3500.00 to escavate at the lower part of the yard and try to clear the roots and replace a piece of broken pipe..well as the week went along every phone call was for another issue and a few more thousand dollars...Lets see if I can get this straight..first the line was deeper than expected (14ft) so they would have to bring in a ditch box then once they got in they discovered more roots, bellies and shifts in the line and they were having a hard time seeing the other direction, the down line to the main..they had about every piece of equipment you could imagine to try to clear the line. so next was to run a liner thru the firs 75ft or so then deal with the down line so we are now at about 6500.00.. next call they cleared the way to the down line and for some reason I went from a 6in line at the house to 4in at the down line to the main..so now what...we either they dig up the yard and replace everything or just dig up the driveway and do what they call pipeblast....so we went the pipeblast route..cost now is at about 11,500 I think it may have even been a bit higher because "we" still don't know what is going on with the down line other than it goes down at a 45 degree angle under the main water line then down again to the main line...so the only "good" news if you could call it that is the down line was able to be cleared and only had a couple of seperations so they didn't have to dig up the road but they did have to install a liner to that line which took me up to the 18,000 I was seriously ready to cry at this point but being a new homeowner I didn't know what else to do.. my homeowners didn't cover it and nieither did my home warranty and the sellers failed to disclose any problems. Other than the extream cost of this job all the guys I dealt with were more than professional I never felt pressured that I had to do anything, the guys all respected my home and cleaned up after themselves, the only other complaint I would have is that they were to come back in the spring to put down top soil and I had to call back more than 6 or 7 to get them to come out and put the soil down and when the finally did it was the some of the most pitiful soil I have ever seen. Since then I have taken the sellers to court (civil suit) couldn't afford a lawyer.. and after one appeal i won the case but alot of good that does they say they have no money so its pretty much a bust for me..I just have to consider it a very expensive lesson...since then I have had to replace the entire inside line as well, I did alot of the jackhammering and digging myself. As far as mr. rooter is considered unless you have a ton of money to spend and not worry give em a call but I now that I am a member of Angies list i never call a contractor unless I check them out here..There are plenty of good honest plumbers out there you just need to know where to find them and this is the place to do that.

They were reasonable, they were on time, and they did a good job for us. This company was good. He spent a good amount of time here.
Description of Work: We used Mr. Rooter of Cranberry Township for plumbing about two months ago. We had a clog and our drains were not draining properly. Then we had water backing up in our basement. They used the snake to clean it out.

I took them to court regarding this issue. In his contract, when he repaired our pipe there was a warranty and 6 months after the repair it was no longer working properly - the warranty was for 10 years. Make sure if you use him that you read any contract that is presented. The contract in writing is different than what they tell you verbally.
Description of Work: I hired them to fix a sewer line. They had a special for $99.00 to clear any drain.

Friday evening I started a load of laundry and noticed a small stream of water on the basement floor coming from the laundry tub. I had to find a plumber after business hours! Jim came on Saturday, examined the problem, gave me the price from his notebook listing, then left to purchase the tub. He hauled away the heavy old one and installed the new.
Description of Work: The old laundry tub had rotted out at the trap connection and was dripping water on the basement floor. Jim Bucci purchased, replaced and installed a new laundry tub and did the necessary plumbing.
