I had the roof replaced on a multi-story triplex by Big Time Construction (BTC). The quote was much lower than the other quotes I received and although my instinct told me to pass on BTC, I went with them due to a referral by the company that manages the building for me. The written quote itself was somewhat primitive and I advised BTC owner Tom Brown at that the time that since he was there, I would pay additional for him to re-do the newer roof shingles on a small porch to match what he was putting on the main roof and lop the branches on a tree that was rubbing against the house. Brown told me that this wouldn't be a problem. I cut a check for $5,400 on September 28th and was told the work would be completed in approximately ten days provided the weather cooperated. This was around the time of the storm "Sandy" so I knew there might be an issue with the time frame and was flexible with this. I never received a call from Brown regarding any issues and after two weeks the roof wasn't even 25% completed. On October 25th, I met Brown at the property and found the work approximately 50% completed . Brown provided excuses but no apology for the work dragging on. I explained to him that his communication skills were lacking and he could have told me initially that the work would take longer or at least have called to tell me that it was taking longer and why. Keeping my end of the contract, I cut a check for $4,400 which he asked be made out to him and not BTC. Brown told me the work would be done by the end of that week. Brown called me on November 15th and asked for the final $1,000. I had been over to the house a week earlier and observed his equipment was no longer there and that the main roof appeared completed. The porch roof I requested he re-do was not touched and the trimming of the tree branches was a shoddy job at best. The clean-up of debris on the ground was abysmal to include a plastic shingle wrapper laying in the yard. There were also pieces of aluminum soffit and facia missing from the house that may or may not be attributable to BTC but the point is that Brown never called to suggest these be replaced while they were there replacing the roof. I asked Brown when he had been to the job last and he stated it was approximately one week earlier. Now I must have another contractor come out and take care of this issue. To close, BTC will be mailed the final $1,000 when they provide the final invoice but anyone considering BTC for any type of work should go elsewhere. A totally unprofessional company and Brown is not worth your time. I wish that I had subscribed to Angie's list prior to having the work done because I certainly would have passed on BTC.

We saw this guys signs all over the place and decided to give him a call. We were hoping to get a 2nd bathroom added to our home and he told us he had the time available and could have it done in 2 weeks! Awesome right? Hardly. After we signed the contract: First, he tried to talk us out of getting permits - to cut down on time and cost (his only), then it took him at least a month to get started. Once he got the basic structure done we waited at least another month for him to start working on the rest of the project. It took him 4 MONTHS to get the bathroom done to the point where it could be used. He still has not finished some of the details ( he did not wire the light above the vanity and it is still not done) and has not gotten the final inspection done on the project. The building inspector has called us a couple of times but he still hasn't come back. Tom was very difficult to work with. When he was approached about getting the job done he would avoid phone calls and then become angry when pressed for dates when things would be worked on. Even when he said he would have someone there, most of the time they didn't show up. This company subcontracts almost everything and we got a decent job but not good. It has been almost a year and we have pretty much given up on ever seeing this guy again.
