To start, let me say that I will firmly stand by this review and will be happy to back up what I say with picture proof. I'll also answer any questions you may have. Here is my e-mail address if you have any questions:
[email protected] My family hired D’Orazio Contracting to complete a kitchen project for us. D’Orazio contracting is now about 7 weeks PAST the completion data that THEY specified in the contract. There were no change orders or delays of any sort that were caused by us, the homeowners. The project was nearing completion but now we are having difficulty getting in touch with the owner of D’Orazio Contracting. He rarely returns any of our calls, texts, or e-mails. The bulk of the remaining projects are items in which D’Orazio Contracting has either damaged or completed in a less than desirable manner. For instance, D’Orazio Contracting damaged the new hardwood floor that they had installed. There were multiple scratches and indentations on the floor that needed to be repaired. We marked off all the locations with painters tape, took pictures of the damage and showed the pictures to D’Orazio Contracting so that there would be no confusion. D’Orizao Contracting removed the tape, and then a couple weeks later replaced about half of the damaged floorboards and left the rest. Perhaps maybe if I had used something more permanent than painters tape they would not have forgotten to fix certain areas. I don’t know what the status is on this project because we can’t seem to get a hold of him now. After the kitchen countertop and sink were installed, we saw a whole new set of scratches that we told him about. We were promptly ignored and the area has not been repaired yet. Not sure what the status of that is because we can’t get a hold of D’Orazio Contracting. D’Orazio Contracting installed three floor registers. The floor registers are all bent (I only weigh 200 lbs and those registers bent just from me walking on them for about a week) and we’re all afraid to walk on these anymore. We can’t even replace them ourselves because he glued them to the floor. In his defense, he did say that he would show us how to remove these without damaging the floor, but we can’t seem to get a hold of him anymore to show us. There is brand new cabinet door that we wanted replaced; it was damaged somehow, not sure if was during installation or from the factory, but the bottom line is that it’s a damaged door and we want it replaced. Again, we haven’t been able to get a hold of him to tell us what is being done about that. D’Orazio Contracting used their own trailer to haul away waste. This trailer (along with a vehicle at times) was parked on our lawn. Of course this portion of the lawn is filled with ruts and dead grass now. To their credit, D’Orazio Contracting said that they will fix this. I don’t know what the status is on this project because we can’t seem to get a hold of him. I can go on, but I’ll give them one final chance to correct their wrongs and make good on the contract that we have. Here’s hoping! Update: Well it's December 12th and I still haven't heard back to him. He's also ignored our request to give us our house key back. UPDATE: So D'Orazio came back and put some dirt, grass seed and straw on the part of the lawn that he destroyed. In my opinion, he did a horrible job at this too. he didn't use enough dirt to completely cover the ruts he left. Also, after not hearing from him in months, today we got a bill from him. Not only did he fail to finish the project, he failed to fix all the damage that HE caused, but now he sends us a bill for things we were never told that were extras. For example, he installed two thresholds from the main living area to two bedrooms. He did what I thought was a terrible job so we told him that it was unacceptable. He agreed ane fixed the problem, then without telling me, he adds the cost for the repair to this latest invoice. Our original kitchen had a top of the line garbage disposal, he put in a generic garbage disposal and just now invoiced us for that as a separate expense. When he installed the baseboard, there were gaps between the baseboard and the floor. Some of these gaps exceeded a half inch. We asked him about that and he said that he wasn't finished and that he was installing an additional piece of trim to hide the gaps. he just invoiced us for the cost of that PLUS the additional cost of painting. So to summarize my story, he never finished repairing our hardwood floors that HE scratched up, he never replaced the cabinet doors that were either damaged by him, in transit, or in the manufacturing process. And now, as of today we're finding out that he's trying to double charge us for things that were already in the bid that we BOTH signed off on.
Description of Work: D’Orazio Contracting was responsible for swapping our kitchen and dining room. Essentially, D’orazio turned out kitchen in to the dining room ans dining room into a kitche. This included all demolition, rebuilding, flooring, cabinets, countertops... Basically D’Orazion was to contract the entire job for us.
