On 1/28/13, Power Home Remodeling Group came into my neighborhood, knocked on my door, and asked if I would like a free no obligation estimate for a home remodeling project, such as replacement windows, siding, roofing, etc. I spoke to the consultant at my door about having my dark brown gutters and downspouts replaced with white gutters with gutter protection, and white downspouts. He said he would like to come in and show me some of the work they have done, and tell me more about his company on his computer, and he would also give me a free estimate. He was professional.
He was here longer than I expected - several hours, and I ended up getting an estimate to replace all my dark brown gutters with gutter protection, downspouts, fascia and soffit, with white ones, plus replace my eight shutters and add hinged S-hooks to each one. The estimate was approximately $7,500, and when I asked how long the job would take, he told me approximately 3 days. I signed an agreement that day, and the agreement stated under "Estimated project completion: 3 to 7 days".
They came to start the job around 10 a.m. on 2/19/13. They sent four workers, one appeared to be the supervisor. He put verbal pressure on them to get everything done quickly. It became apparent that afternoon, that he expected them to have the job done by the end of the day. It got dark around 5 p.m. that time of year, so that means the job was to be done within 7 to 8 hours (not three days, like I was led to believe.)
My complaint: The job was not done correctly the first time, and I believe it was because of the pressure he put on his workers to get it done within one day. We didn't have much rain that time of year, but when we did, I noticed a leak from the roof, where the corner of my garage and living room met. Also, by the time they got to replacing the shutters that day, it was getting dark. They couldn't find all the dark green screws to attach them, so they used other screws, which did not look right, when I inspected the work the following day. The wrong screws were no big deal, but considering the money I paid, I expected it to be done right.
I called them about the leak and the shutter screws, and they sent someone out in about a week. He took care of the problem.
Then, after another rain, I noticed the water ran off the roof, and instead of going into the rain spout, on both the back of my house over the deck, and the front of my house over the garage, the rain leaked between the rain spout and the soffit - instead of going into the rain spout. Therefore, I had to call them and ask them to come again and fix the problem.
They sent two men approx. two weeks later. I told the one man that the job should have taken a day and a half or two days to complete - not one day! If they weren't in such a big hurry to get it done, it probably would have been done right the first time, and the need to send workers back two more times would have been unnecessary.
I realize I was foolish to sign an agreement without getting at least one or two other estimates and, also, without checking out the contractor. Because of the pressure put on their workers to get the job done as quickly as possible, rather than take their time and get it done properly, I would not use this company again.
