American Freight Furniture and Mattress - Carnegie

We have purchased items from this company(Penn Hills location) before. We bought a dining room table set and a fabric sofa and love seat with no problems. However, I would not recommend purchasing any "leather" merchandise from here. We purchased a bonded leather sectional approx. 2 years ago. It didn't last. The cushions started cracking and peeling and no amount leather repair was going to fix it. We replaced it with a sectional from another store. Recently, I went to the Carnegie location near our home looking for a bedroom dresser. I saw a few that I liked so I brought my husband back to the store the following week. When we chose a dresser, the sales associate Jennifer R. checked to see if it was in stock. The computer said they had 1 in stock, but when she went to check, it was not actually in stock. She claimed that the other store location also didn't have it in stock either. We didn't call the other store to confirm but maybe we should have since these sales associates work on commission. She said that they were going to be getting a delivery of more freight and if we decided to buy the dresser THAT day (March 7, 2014) we could get delivery within 3-5 business days. We decided to check one more store before ordering. We didn't find anything as nice at another store so we went back the same day to place the order. We paid cash in full and when the transaction was complete the estimated delivery date changed to 3-4 weeks. Needless to say, we were not happy about having to wait up to a month. During the third week of waiting(March 23, 2014) they left us a message stating that the dresser was NOW on back-order and we would have to wait an ADDITIONAL 4 weeks for them to get the dresser in stock. We went to the store (March 24, 2014) to cancel the order and get our money back. We spoke with the manager Kyle W. who told us that we could get a full refund, HOWEVER, we would have to wait 7-10 business days to receive a check from Corporate. Very unhappy about that. Should not have to wait for a check from Corporate when we paid hard earned cash on the spot. We were told that they don't keep cash on hand. So now we can't even go buy a dresser somewhere else because we have to wait another two weeks for our money back. Although they claim that all sales are final, you CAN get a refund, but YOU HAVE TO ASK about getting a refund. Be very careful when buying merchandise from this store. Don't buy bonded leather products unless you want to replace it within 2 years. And don't buy what isn't in stock unless you don't need it right away. Got a response back from the company(March 25, 2014). They reiterated the refund policy that if you pay by cash or check, you will be refunded by way of a check from corporate in 10-14 business days. However, the rep(Kelly) is having our check sent to our home instead of to the store. While we are thankful for that, we still have to wait for the check and to purchase something else. For future reference, if we would have paid by credit the refund would have been only 3-5 business days. My rating for this company is based on the problem we experienced at this particular location at this particular time. We have purchased from this company twice in the past with no problems as stated previously. Hopefully, with the knowledge gained from this experience, we may shop there again in the future. While it didn't take two weeks for us to receive our refund check, it was still sent to the store instead of coming to our home.
