Wife called to set up distemper shot for family dog....Charged $55 for office visit/ exam which lasted 2 minutes, when all we wanted was a distemper shot, the shot itself was only $19 plus needle disposal fee. When I confronted them about the situation I was told "Well how about we charge you for a quick partial exam, $40". And NO, they don't have a policy for shot with exam only. Examining Vet literally looked at our dog for a total of 2 minutes missing just about every system but told the front desk to charge us for a "Complete Physical Exam and History", by the way she took no history from us. So now we will file formal complaint with BBB and state board of veterinary medicine. The good news is there are literally dozens of Veterinarians around Upper St. Clair and Peters Township to choose from. Also, we paid with American Express so dismissing and challenging this charge will be easy. Sadly they lost a very good client as well as everyone we tell about them. My wife and I are both active physicians in the community, I bet we will tell literally upwards of 1000 people per month as well as hundreds of colleagues.

I highly recommend Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic on E McMurray Rd because all staff persons have demonstrated consistent professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency during the past three years. Our appointments have always been on time. The people at the desk get us through the check in, scale weigh in, and payment process very smoothly. The doctors are all highly skilled from my experiences here. The facility is clean, maintained, organized and easy. Parking is ample and easy. Some care, such as shots, are administered in a back room, out of your presence. The dog is escorted by leash out of the exam room to the backroom, or central care facility I would call it, cared for by multiple people as may be required, then escorted back to you in the exam room. This means the animal is out of your sight and control. To me, this is a professional and responsible method for caring for the animal, and protecting me as a person. My dogs are large at 60-90 pounds, strong and can be unpredictable. That said, each and every time my dogs have been returned to the exam room, they've been fine and indicating to me that they have been treated properly. The dogs are happy, so I am happy. However, as a caring owner, I always wonder what exactly is going on. So it's a trust issue. You either trust or you don't. When the day comes that I cannot agree to being separated from my dog, I will insist on remaining with the animal. We'll see how that goes when the time comes. In fact, I plan to talk with the doctor upon my next visit.

I am a veterinary technician that has recently moved to the area from out-of-state. Naturally, on of my cats (the most complicated health-wise) developed an abnormal nasal discharge within weeks of moving in to our new house, before I was working at a veterinary hospital.  I chose Pleasant Valley, in part because I was planning on sending them a resume and thought it would be a good way to evaluate them from a client's point of view.  I was VERY impressed; Dr. Pensenstadler performed a thorough exam, had obviously reviewed my cat's prior medical history, asked pertinent questions and listened to my answers, then made his recommendations for treatment.  Both he and the technician handled my cat as gently as possible (he can be....difficult).  We performed a fair amount of testing in addition to addressing the nasal discharge because of an ongoing, unrelated medical issue that needed monitoring and referral to PVSEC's cardiology service.  I was called the next day with results of the bloodwork and urinalysis.  
I came away from the appointment very impressed.  I will continue to use them, and would happily interview there should I be called in for one!

The prices were very very high for what little time I was there.

My veterinarian is awesome. He's very practical in his treatment. I never feel that anything is done just because it's there. Everything is explained well. I feel that I am given the options to make the best choices. Compared to other veterinarians, their price is actually really good. The vet calls me back off hours and everything. I would absolutely use them in the future.

I didn't like the 35 minute wait for my appt. and neither did my cat. The vet was very nice and gentle with my cat and the staff was friendly. Other than the wait time, even when you have an appt., the service was good.

I'm going to them for twenty years and I'm satisfied. I think that their price is reasonable and their services are fine.

I have been using them forever. Their prices seemed to be fair and reasonable. I have been here for 35 years and they have been my vet ever since, father to son, so obviously I am satisfied. They have concern for the animals and their good quality of work stands out. They are wonderful with animals. Price wise I have not compared them since I have not used anybody else.

I like it very much. The price varies. They are great, and I have recommended them.

Pleasant Valley has a wonderful staff. They are all knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. We have several dogs and cats and we take them all to Pleasant Valley. We've been going to them for many years and have always had a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend them.

We got a new Airedale puppy in May and have visited the vets for the basic puppy shots, heartworm, and flea and tick medication a few times over the last three months.Dr. Andrea was very nice in our first visit asking with some good ideas house breaking and play biting issues. We did have a little scare when our puppy got sick on Father's Day with diarrhea and vomiting. We used the emergency call service which did cost around $45.00. One of the vets called back promptly and it was decided that it would be ok to wait until the morning to take her into the office. I called when they first opened and was able to bring her in that morning. She ended up staying the day and we picked her up after work.We have also seen Dr. Mike in our last two puppy visits who was also very nice and thorough in all of his examinations. He recommended an additional Lyme disease shots so we will have one more visit in about a month.

Our experience has been great. The staff is pleasant, courteous and responsive to your questions. The Veterinarians on staff always take time to listen to your concerns. They seem very interested in their work and their patients. I have never felt rushed when asking questions about my pets.

We will continue to use them.

The staff is animal-friendly, professional, and efficient. My dog likes to go there! I feel very secure because the vet is right there in house.

Dr. Carmichael and Pleasant Valley Clinic in general are fabulous. Their prices are always reasonable, even on holidays. They provided a therapeutic regimen that saved our dog from having to go through another surgery and saved us from paying an additional $3000. Our dog is doing really well as a result of this animal hospital's conscientious care. The price I'm giving is for an office visit and the total cost of the medications associated with this treatment.

They are open every night until 7:00, so even though I work I was able to schedule an appt in the evening. Our wait to see the doctor was very short. He was very nice and took a lot of time with my dog and to talk to me afterward.
