Penn Fencing

I met with several companies over the span of half of a year before deciding on Penn Fencing.  The price was VERY reasonable (half of what another vendor wanted) and all of the individuals I spoke with were very professional and really seemed to have my best interests at heart.  
When it became time for the installation they arrived on time and got right to work.  We reviewed the work to be performed, some of the choices that had been discussed with the salesman, and off they went.  During the installation they ran into a couple of snags, due to how my old railings were installed, however they were able to come up with good solutions to all of the issues encountered.  The installation did take longer than expected, but I believe this was related to the snags they ran into and the change in timing was well communicated.  
I was most impressed when at the end of the first day of work they asked me to take a look at the install thus far, and pointed out a spot where they made a mistake (cut a 7' section of railing just slightly too short) and told me that they would be replacing that section of railing.  I would never have noticed the mistake, but they felt it was just a little too short and could be a safety issue.  Needless to say, I was quite pleased with the attention to detail and the level of service. 
Upon completion I am very happy with the job that was done.  The railing is beautiful, extremely sturdy (absolutely NO play in it), and a really nice upgrade to our front porch.  I'd be more than happy to recommend them to a friend. 

Company lacks professionalism.

I got the info for Penn Fence from Angies List and was very happy working with Joe Sedmak. He's the ultimate professional and was very patient with me during the estimate process as I changed my mind several times about the type of fence we needed (fences are so much more expensive than I thought!). Anyway, Penn Fence was probably the 5th or 6th estimate I received for a fence - and they weren't the least priced - but they had the least wait time and were *the best communicators* out of all the people who we received estimates from (some people took over a week to get me an estimate! Joe provided one the same day). Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, Joe was a great front man for the company and then the workers that came in behind him did a good job; they're a little rough around the edges (um, my husband caught one of them peeing in our bushes during the first of a 3-day install!) but once I invited them to use the restroom, they started to act more like they were working and not camping (they also hit something while digging but they never figured out what it was and neither did we. I am just hoping that whatever it is doesn't come back and haunt us 5 years from now).

We received the estimate and decided to hire a competitor who offered the same work and identical service at a lower labor fee.  It was a small job and the fence company we hired had an employee do the work on his own after hours - so we could get a fair labor fee.

Penn Fencing did a very nice job.  They were easy to work with and very helpful in selecting from an array of possible solutions to our situation.  They suggested a very workable (and less expensive) alternative design when we found that our first design would have meant delays in installation because the material we initially selected was not immediately available due to seasonality.  The railing has a firm, solid feel, and looks great.  When I saw a cosmetic problem after installation, they cheerfully came back to fix it, and did not look for the final payment until we were fully satisfied.  They did a high-quality job and were a pleasure to work with.  I would highly recommend them.

I found them on Angie's List. I received several quotes, but chose them for the job. I grade them an A overall.

The work was completed in one day, with outstanding results! Clean up was quick and efficient. Very satisfied. Many compliments from neighbors!

The salesman was very nice when he came for the estimate, but once I agreed and to have the work done he made it clear he should not be called anymore.  Any further questions would have to wait until the next person who schedules installation calls.  The gentleman called about the installation and it was set for between 8-8:30AM.  I needed to be there when they arrived to confirm where the fence would be installed and then I could leave for work.  At 9 AM no one had showed up or called so I called the company and they told me they would call me back when they find out where the installers were at that time.  Well 9:30 comes and I have not received a call back and still no one has shown up.  I called back again and then they said well we think they are a 30 minutes away.  I had to reschedule because I was already terribly late for work.  I called before the date it was rescheduled and they were trying to give me this again they were trying to give me a vague time of when they might arrive.  I made it clear they must be there by 8:30 because I lost 2 hours of work on the previous scheduled day.   They did arrive at 8:30 and the installation crew was very professional and did a good job with the install. 
As mentioned above the installation was good, but the communication / scheduling process can be frustrating.

They knew what they were doing. The only thing I was concerned about is the size of the fence when the contract was written up. I was confused about what was going on for sometime and I wanted the fence 5 feet high. The quality is very good and the price is a little more because of the quality.

Tim Walch from Penn Fencing came on 01/11/12 to measure and give us a quote for our project. He contacted me about a month later asking if they could substitute aluminum for wrought iron fencing which I agreed to. I contacted him about a month later asking about the status of our order and he stated they would be out the following monday. They came as promised and did a satisfactory job of installing the fence and gate and cleaned up the work area. We are very pleased with our new fence.

The installers were prompt and respectful.  They did a nice job.  The salesman was new.  We struggled a little bit with callbacks and some other things.  I addressed it with the owners and managers.  They were aware and appreciative that I let them know.

They were really quick.  I thought the price was very reasonable.  They cleaned up very well, too; you wouldn’t even know they were here.  I have nothing but good things to say about them.

They did a good job.  They were reliable and just overall dependable.  They were there when they said they would be.

Joe came to give an estimate in October.  He was very professional and sent me the estimate by email soon afterwards.  The installers were courteous and punctual.  They did a nice job, both with the installation and with cleaning up afterwards.. The office staff were very professional and courteous to deal with.

They were recommended.  They do a lot of the work on the northern side of Pittsburgh.  The stuff looks good.  They had nice options.  They started the work the day they said they were going to start the work.  They finished the work within 3 days.  They ran into a couple of surprises, but they were able to work thorough them.  There weren't any service delays.  I can't ask for any more from people that show up and actually do the job when you pay them to.  The price was reasonable.  They weren't the cheapest, but they were pretty close to one of the more expensive options.  The quality was great.  The fence is great.  They were able to make changes midstream which didn't add to the cost at all or extend the schedule.  They started the work the day they said they would.  They finished the project within a day of when they said it would be done.  The surveyors were great.  They came out and did the pricing.  The crew didn't even need to come in and out of the house to get water or take a bathroom break.  They were self-sustaining.  They were great.  I would use them again in the future.  It would have to be pretty extreme circumstances for me to go with somebody else.

I was happy with them. They did a very nice job. I shopped around and the pricing was very fair. The quality of their work was very good. I would grade them highly in all the areas. I kind of had a difficult backyard and so, they had to do some special things.

It went very well.  They showed up on time and did what they were supposed to do.

We ended up going with another contractor based on pricing.

I would use them but we needed to save up first; hoping to get the fence installed next year

Starting today I think I am going to have them start the project.  They were very thorough as far as their detail to work. They gave us a lot of options and which are still coming to us. They worked with us as far as dealing with the city and what my zoning permit allows me to do. They worked out three estimates for us without charging us anything. I will use this company in the future.

We called Penn Fencing and they returned our phone call within a day. We set up an appointment for the estimator to come and give us an estimate and he arrived as scheduled. After we submitted the down payment, they called two weeks later to see if they could start the job the next day. I told them no because we had to make arrangements to board our dog, have our neighbors cut down a tree that was pressing against our fence and get the proper permit, so they told us to call back when we were ready. I called them a week later and they started on Thursday. The scheduler told us it would take 2 days, but it took 3 which meant we had to board the dogs over the weekend which costs us twice as much as it should have.  Three men came and removed the old fence and installed the right side of the fence poles on Thursday. They came back on Friday and  installed the chain link fence on the right side and then installed the poles for the top and left side of the fence. They came back on Monday and  finished installing the rest of the fence by the afternoon.

A week later,  I had them come back to lower the left side of the fence because it was not touching the ground. I had to buy dirt to raise the yard on the right side of the fence because they said the fence was down as far as it could go. There was a 3" gap from the ground to the fence which would allow the dogs to get out.

It looks good and now the dogs are safe and kept in their backyard.

It wasn't cheap but it was nice.  It's not a wooden fence. They were very nice when they came out to do the fence.  We had them do two fences at different times.
