The man in charge, Mr Ken LeRoy arrived at my house as promised several days before the job. He was on time, very pleasant and gave me a precise and complete estimate of the work necessary. He e-mailed me his quote in 48 hours and adjusted the cost as necessary.He made every effort to insure that unnecessary work was not done. I would recommend this company to anyone!

They were experts and very good.  I was concerned about a tree and I thought it has a disease.  They came in and treated it instead I don't have to worry about it. They said they could treat it easily. They could have lied and said that they needed a whole lot of work and it was not an easy work.  They took care of it and the tree looks fine now.

They're fantastic and reliable. They work cleanly and their pricing is excellent.

It was fantastic. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. Whatever they quoted us is what they charged us. They were professional, on time, clean, tidy and reliable. They are trained and certified.

I thought they were very good.  They quoted me a several thousand dollars but I didn't use them to do it.  I may use them in the future but I haven't got around to it yet.  I thought they were very good.  Their arborist is very professional.

Although we didn't end up choosing Ward to do our tree work I can honestly say that it was a very difficult decision not to go with them.  They called us back immediately after our initial inquiry.  Then, they were prompt, professional and courteous when coming to our property to provide a quote.  They were very helpful in identifying what tree-work should be done and their quote was very thorough and competitive.  The ONLY reason we did not go with Ward was because one other company was also very thorough and competitive (and also had great angie's list reviews) but they accepted credit cards and Ward did not.  We wanted to spread out payment of the tree-work via paying by credit card so we ended up going with the other guy.  I can't speak to their work product but I can attest to their prompt, thorough and courteous response when asked for a quote.

We had been procrastinating on removing two trees, and finally contacted several Tree Removal services that we found on Angies List.  John B Ward's client representative was very polite, knowledgeable, and quick to act.  We received a prompt estimate the day we spoke to John B Ward, and we scheduled the tree removal the very next day.
The workmen arrived promptly, worked very quickly (even in the rain!), ground out all the stumps and roots, and cleaned up the area very well - it looked like the trees had never been there!
We would use John B Ward again and highly recommend their tree removal service.

I called this company and was able to meet with one of their reps. He came to the house on a Saturday morning and we discussed what I needed them to do. A bid was subsequently submitted that was within my budget.  I was becoming a tad bit annoyed, however, because I was not able at first to get a date scheduled to get the job done. I persisted and a date was finally scheduled. On the day of the job, a crew of three including a supervisor arrived at my house on time, on chilly and rainy day, and without complaint, did an absolutely amazing job on trimming the tree. I must say that other reviews on Angie's List were extremely helpful in my final decision to use this company. They were thorough and cleaned up after they were done. It took the crew between 5-6  hrs to complete the entire job from start to finish including the clean up.

They arrived approximately 9:00 and was completed within 2 hours..

Gave us the best price of four tree companies.  Professional, knowledgeable, and efficient.  Definitely include this company when getting estimates.

I sought four different proposals on the job, of various companies I saw doing work in the neighborhood (and had positive feedback on A's list.)  John B. Ward  was very quick to respond. Pricewise and timing-wise, their proposal was the best.  I only asked for a price on the one tree and they threw the other smaller tree in the proposal.  I was worried about the larger tree coming down in a storm, especially with 5 kids, and they were sensitive to that and quickly put us on the schedule.  I was at work when they removed the trees.  Other than the trees being gone, I could not tell that they were even there.  They are a great company - very professional job.  I look forward to working with them in the future!

John B Ward sent a certified arborist to look at our storm damaged tree and inspect the rest of the tree and shrubs on our property. The estimate was quite detailed with price on every line item, which allowed us to pick what we wanted to address first. On the day of the service, the same person came to oversee the work. Everything was completed as promised, to the smallest detail. Overall great service, I'll definitely use them again. 

Everything was great!  They were extremely punctual and took every precaution when taking down the tree.

We used them and they were wonderful.  It was a big job and they came and did exactly what they said they were going to do and they left my property just the way they said they were going to leave it.  They made it look as though they were never here.  We will be using them again in the future.

2 day operation. All workers were introduced by Matt and were pleasant, professional and polite. When they were done, you would never know they had been there. They removed a 100 year old apple tree and 2 towering white pines. Excellent work and I have asked them to do some additional work on my property.

Jim Ward provided a detailed estimate of the work to be performed. At my request, his estimate included a couple of options for me to consider (removing versus trimming one tree). The prices he quoted were competitive with other estimates that I received. We agreed on a date for the work. Jim and the guys showed up on time. They were careful with my property as well as the property of my neighbors. They accomplished everything we agreed to, in the time frame I expected, for the agreed on price. Can't ask for more than that!

The job was done on time and on estimate with even extra work done for free. They not only cut down the evergreen but they also grinded down the roots and cleaned my yard of old rotten firewood. YHE JOB WENT SMOOTHLY.

Since they have been taking care of the trees they have been able to stabilize the trees. We are pretty happy with the job that they are doing and the adivse that they are giving us. Their prices are very reasonable and their easy to get a hold of. I will continue to use their services in the future.

They werethe least expensive of our estimates. The day of the estimate they came out 5 minutes early, and they came out and did everything they said they would do. The work was terrific. They went right to work and were just great. I would highly recommed them to anyone! The only complaint I have is that they only gave us a one day notice on when they were coming. But the day they came, they showed up on time. Great company.

We were quite pleased.  I reached a live operator at John B. Ward & Co. and requested a bid.  Within 24 hours I received a call back from certified arborist Ken Hutz.  Ken and I arranged an appointment to view the job.  Ken was prompt and professional.  He clearly communicated answers to my questions.  The very next day I received a written estimate.  When I inquired as to liability and worker's comp insurance, he immediately stated he would email to me the certificate of liability insurance, which he did within 24 hours .  That certificate named me as the certificate holder.   Of the six bids I received for the work, Ward was in the middle. I asked for references and  Ken immediately gave me two references (one for the Chief Arborist  at Haverford College and the other at Chanticleer).  I spoke with the Haverford College reference, and received a glowing report.  The arborist assured me that Haverford has the oldest campus arboretum in the country and that Haverford standards are very high - and that Ward's crews are the only ones who work on their trees, and in particular he spoke highly of their training.  Impressed, I verbally committed to Ken.  Ken explained that he wanted a particular crew and would it be ok if he called me the next Friday  to confirm a job date on the following Monday.  I said fine.  Ken called me on Friday, and we arranged to do the job on Monday.   Three guys arrived - two trimmers (one who had just received his ISA Arborist certificate) and a helper to pick up branches.  Ken arrived soon after (as he said he would) and we went over the job.  The trimmers were very pro-active - before starting to trim the Willow Oaks they explained to us the general  cuts that they were planning - and listened to our feedback.   At the start of the day I realized that I had not specified the 25' white pine be cut down - so I asked Ken if they could do it and expressed my hope that they wouldn't charge me extra.  He said "no problem , we'll take care it it."  And they did, no extra charge - I thought that was very good customer service.  Crew worked steadily, and took reasonable breaks.   Ken stopped back 3 times during the day,   Work commenced around 8:15 am and was done around 3.   All debris removed.  And these trimmers are amazing.  They climb up very high in the trees like it was nothing at all and slice off branches.  Quite impressive.   Only thing not quite correct was that next day I rang Ken wondering if he could take a look at one of the trimming jobs (I wondered if a bit more could be taken off). Ken said he would do so, both next day and about 3 weeks later when it was fully leafed out.  He left a card next day - but as far as I know he didn't stop back 3 weeks later.  In any case, all the trees look great.
