called Martella around 8:45pm. I chose Martella because I'd used them about 10 years ago for my last electrical repair. Their dispatcher said that they do emergency service and quoted me a
price, which was $295, just to come out and take a look. When I accepted the price, she said that someone would call me soon with an estimated time of arrival. When she asked about the problem, I told her that
the circuit breaker had blown and that there was an odor (which my neighbor
explained is a normal thing when a circuit breaker blows). After not hearing
back for an hour, I called again. The dispatcher said that she would message the electrician and that someone would call em back. No one did. Then I called an hour after that and the
dispatcher called me back and said that if I smelled smoke, I should call the
fire department. I said that maybe there was a misunderstanding, that the main
problem was the circuit breaker and that there was no longer an odor. I probably
called 5 or 6 times over the course of 4 hours and nobody ever told me whether
they were or were not coming out. I finally gave up around 1 am, at which time it was too late to start with another company and wait for them to show up. Huge loss of food from my freezer and fridge.

I'm sure that Martella does excellent work, but the scope of services they wanted to perform for this project was so out of align with what I requested that it wasn't worth me pursuing them as a viable option.
"Hello Angies List Member, Knob and tube wiring in home like yours was installed between 80 and 100 years ago. The installation methods are such that the wiring is comparable to spider webs. It goes everywhere. To rewire a home correctly and safely requires extensive work. To rewire just one or two rooms is not practicle. The average home owner has very little understanding of this type of wiring except that they know it is outdated and can problematic. We gave you a range to give you an idea what the project will eventually cost. We rewire 3 to 4 homes each year bringing these homes up to todays wiring standards. While making small openings in the plaster walls is necessary, we take great care not to destroy walls and ceilings. In fact in most cases we patch the holes as well. On a personal note, I found all of the Martella reps courteous and friendly. Upon arriving, each rep place coverings over their shoes so no dirt would be tracked into my home and carpeting. Before leaving my home, Terry reviewed how the home surge protection was installed and how it operated. He also took the time to make sure the TV and sound bar system was working. I could not have expected anything more from Martella. No wires were visible and they left the walls patched where the cables were run. I am aware of additional electrical work that needs to be done and will most definitely make Martell Electric my first call.
