The next day when in the basement looking at the unit I noticed the main ductwork damper handle was broken off and laying on top of the unit. Next to it was the small plug that was removed to measure the air temperature coming off the cooling coil. I did not see them break the handle but it was not like that before they worked on the unit. This damper had been partially closed to force more air into a different part of the house. I suspect they tried to open it full open in order to get a better reading on the discharge temperature when the handle broke off. If the handle fell off on it's own it would have landed on the floor but instead it was laying on top of the unit about a foot horizontally from the damper position.
I contacted Reese to see if they would repair the damage they caused and they claimed that they didn't touch any dampers. Again, I did not see them break it. Short of having a CSI come in and take their fingerprints off the handle, I can't prove they damaged it. I can only share my experience here.
UPDATE: A day after posting this review I was contacted by Reese. They apologized and advised me that they spoke to their partner and they did infact break the handle (it was probably bad timing as the system is old and they did not force the handle but they were the last one to touch it). They agreed to come back and take a look to see if the damper was completely stuck or just the handle had to be replaced. When they returned (right on time again) they were able to fix the handle and all is good again.
I upgraded my rating from a D to a B. The only reason I didn't give them a A was because I was dismissed with such certainty the first time I called instead of checking with his partner at that time. Perhaps I caught him at at bad time or maybe people blame them for stuff they didn't do often. Based on their follow up and desire to make it right, we are considering having them install a new HVAC system for us.
